  • This video review covers how to access, inspect, and repair the top SMA connectors on HDZero goggles, if you find that you are not getting signal on one of them.
Thanks to Ryan Quellet for the video on HDZero goggle disassembly. Thanks to Herecomeswhitey on the HDZero Discord for consulting on electronics repair. Thanks to Carl Zhou for providing the initial instructions for the fix.

Thanks for this video. My top left antenna was very low signal strength, probably from dropping the goggles. I replaced the left side sma board and it's back working now. No visible damage on the board or solder connections though.

I don't ever want to take my goggles apart like that. You are brave.

This worked great for my top right antenna issues. Thank you!

If you're attempting this take great care with those ribbon cables for the screens.

Put an other nut on the inside too .. that wah you're clamping down onto plastic not the sma it will be stiffer and prevent a repeat break

You are way rougher with those ribbon cables then I would be. Think I'd remove them if they aren't soldered? Looks like some kind of plate with 2 screws holding them down onto a connector? Edit: thanks for video though! Issues like this wouldn't be too difficult for me to fix.

You did a really good job with this. Those ribbon connections must be a little bit tougher than advertised or are they strain relieved somehow at the connector? I don’t have them yet (March apparently) but I appreciate the demo. Luckily they seem fairly easy to work on since it would appear that diy repairs are immediately necessary in a lot of cases. I subbed. Thanks.

I got the round 1 goggles that had the nut on the goggles but saddly during taveling the the nut on the same sma connector you worked on came loose and the connector was bumped in traveling and came free from the board. the board was a total loss so I purchased a replacement board. I reinstalled the goggles and the screens work but I get now signal from any antenna from my whoop lit vtx. What should I look for?

Would hate to have to deal with this issue when my new goggles arrive any day now. I intended on running 4 stubbies, so over time there is a chance that without the sma nuts and washers on both the inside and outside of all 4 ports, that this will develop into a problem (particularly, if we want to keep the antennas installed all the time), which may well be out of the warranty period for the goggles. I wouldn't really want to open up the goggles for fear of damaging something else...

Thanks for the video. I just received my goggle today and notice I do have the same low signal strength issue on the top right port (I wonder why it is always the top right port and not the left). I am just wondering what would be the effect if I just leave it as is and just rely on getting the signals from the 3 other ports before opening up the brand new goggle lol

Good video. Especially how you explain how to remove the SMA holding cup.

🤔 I think this might be my low signal strength issue.
