Greg, on play #5 - a hand check call could have been made on the defender before the subsequent action that ensued at the division line. However, it may be that the crew had pre-gamed a decision to let displacement of that nature go and to lay off of the hand check call. The defender had multiple touches on the ball handler and extended his arm illegally as the BH made his move to the right. That is my observation.
In Play #2, the moment of confusion is becasue the calling officical gave a block signal. Wouldn't be better if he could give team control foul signal?
Why wouldn’t the lead follow the closest competitive match near the corner? Wouldn’t the player control become the Center or Trial?
If you have a question about a play, adding a timestamp (MM:SS format) makes a huge difference in our ability to respond.

Play 1 Legal
Play 4 looking at all the things - the calling official may have been better served in watching the Red teammate screening the talking defender trying to catch the play. Also, the shooter uses the off arm to create the space and that sends them propelled to the ground as well. Not saying either NEED called, but they both are certainly right there on the cusp.
You mention the wave off by the coach in play 5. Can you make or point me to a video that deals with handling coaches?
Play #2 block defensive foul
I really need your help regarding correctible errors. Im jam from the Philippines. We have a basketball tournament here and during our championship game in the fourth quarter with score tied at 66-66 with 1:54 remaining on the clock, a foul was called by my teammate which is a good call. We were on the defensive side, now there was an error regarding the foul, because instead of 4 fouls committed by my teammate, the table had an error in tallying the foul and said he had five fouls. Everyone knows that it was his 4th foul but the table had an error in tallying. We reviewed the video and we were right, its his fourth foul not the fifth foul. Both teams argued and we ended up cancelling our championship game. What should the correct decision be. Can we correct table error mistake in tallying fouls. Please i really want your help regarding this issue. Thank you, will be waiting for your reply and hopefully a video regarding this correctible error. Thank you
37:57 Which offensive player is going to the free throw line? The driver or the jumper? I have a flop by the defensive player and a technical foul.
At 8:50 is that step-through legal? It looks like he drags his pivot foot instead of picking it up.
Play #5 I wouldn't call a violation.
Play #5 player control
Greg, the video on play #4 is not sharp enough, nor close enough for me to tell if there was a foul by the big fella. I watched it several times and he certainly extended his arm down rather than staying vertical. As officials, we watch for that kind of downward arm action and often penalize the defender if it appears that he made illegal contact with the shooter's arm. I get your point about "creating contact" and not penalizing a tall player just because of he is big. In this instance, the center official made the right call if illegal contact was made.
Play #1 legal
Play#3 could be deemed unsportsmanlike conduct. However, with the game being over, I don't know if I would have penalized him. Cursing at them, yes. Pounding his chest or yelling no.
Play one is legal
Play #4 legal play
Play 4 (handsy defender/backcourt/block-charge): 1. lots of hands and extended forearms from the defender, so I've got a hand check (or three) before everything else, 2. although it's bang-bang, backcourt violation on white, then 3. green defender establishes LGP, moves obliquely to his right (so is still legal) and takes contact to the middle of his chest--obvious charge by white in my judgement (but that would be tough for the Trail to get, but she blew her whistle quickly rather than a cadence whistle, so no time for anyone else to come get that one).
Play 1 not over and back didn't get all 3 points over the line
Remember, “all 3 points” is for a player ‘Dribbling’ from backcourt to frontcourt… and that is detailed in Rule 4-4-6
If the player is ‘in contact with’ the ball (aka holding/touching; but NOT dribbling), then the ball immediately gains frontcourt status when NEITHER the player nor the ball are touching the backcourt. Detailed in Rule 4-4-2
This means frontcourt status for the player and ball can be obtained with just a single foot in the frontcourt if that 2nd foot located in the backcourt were to be lifted off the floor and the ball was being held rather then dribbled.
To prevent a “gotcha!” moment, one could wisely ask “If frontcourt status is obtained while holding the ball and not physically touching the backcourt, would an airborne player in contact with the ball deep in the backcourt legally be considered to be in the frontcourt while airborne, since neither the player nor ball are touching the backcourt while they are airborne?”
For this, we are protected by Rule 4-35-3:
“The location of an airborne player […] is the same as the time such player was last in contact with the floor […]”
So even though neither the airborne player nor the ball are physically touching the backcourt per Rule 4-4-2, technically while airborne their location is the same as the last time they were touching the floor, which is in the backcourt. This protects a player from being considered in the frontcourt just because they are not physically touching the backcourt while airborne.
Lots to think about and consider! So to touch all bases on this matter, I will add one final piece to the puzzle… Rule 9-9-3:
“During a jump ball, throw-in, or while on defense, a player may LEGALLY jump from his/her frontcourt, secure control of the ball with both feet off the floor, and return to the floor with one or both feet in the backcourt. The player may make a normal landing and IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE whether the first foot down is in the frontcourt or backcourt.”
Good luck this season!

Play 3, I saw a travel on the first made basket. Didn't look marginal to me. He gained an advantage by dragging g the pivot foot. I would've called it on him.
great job of discussion until play 5. two OBVIOUS situations, one a back court violations and the second a foul. both missed by the trail. then you opted to give her an equitable conclusion.. (she was determined in her call?!?!?!?!?!?!?) .because she is black. so unlike you.
