It's 2025 and I will always always always find myself back here. So glad I stumbled upon this NPR session and discovered Moonchild all those years ago.
I'm not even kidding. I had a dream that I got a notification saying Moonchild was on Tiny Desk three months ago and I woke up and checked youtube thinking it was real. Then I saw it today and thought I was dreaming again. So glad I'm not. This was what I've been waiting for
First off, I knew this set was gonna be absolute FIRE solely based on the way that my guy in the yellow button up was jamming on the keys. My mans was feeling it. Second off, her voice is beautiful. It sounds like a faint rainstorm on a cool, breezy, clear summer night. She’s beautiful, her voice is angelic, the band is crazy talented. The fact that she added a message about bettering humanity is a plus. I love when artists use their platforms to promote positivity. The world needs so much more of this. Much love to Moonchild. I’ve been streaming her/their music non stop since I watched this.
Can we just give it up for all the MULTI-talented and musically gifted people in this tiny desk?! Especially homeboy andris in the yellow handling the keys, trumpet, AND guitar. You can tell he really FEELS the music
This is why in high school it’s best to get close to the band members and show choir kids, because when they mix together this is what happens!! At least this is what happened at my school! Pure love!!
One of the most underrated groups of neo soul been following them since their first project....hate this pandemic has it where I can’t even see them on their tour with Jill Scott...
I "Like" many things but rarely comment. After watching this for the 20th time in the past couple weeks I feel compelled. I'm 65 and music has always been a huge part of my my life. Primarily a jazz fan, but I listen to everything. I'm so impressed by the way you wed so many influences into a completely soulful experience. I get teary when I hear and see your passion. And Amber, your message after the second song was amazing and prophetic and spot on. I plan to listen to you as long as you're making music.
I agree Kennedy...something about their sound that is quietly genuine ...sprinkled with musical excellence. ...as a musican....I am hearing some very well written and practiced material.....I too almost come to tears on ..the song....Money!....P.s.....they opened for Stevie Wonder...musical royalty....Stevie does not mess with you unless you are VERY GOOD!....something to ponder!
"Moonchild". Their music is the perfect antidote for a nervous condition. If Amber Navran's voice can't calm you down, just check yourself into the nearest clinic.
I've been a fan of Moonchild for years now, but what stood out the most was Amber's call to action. It was incredibly thoughtful and genuine, and I hope that it doesn't get lost in all of this outstanding music. Indeed, we should all strive to "spend our privilege" and I appreciate Amber using the privilege/platform of Tiny Desk to remind us all that not only do Black and Brown lives matter, but that there's a role we all can play in this movement, to whatever extent we are capable of. Thank you for the positive musical and social vibes, Moonchild.
I really appreciated how genuine it was. I just wanted to add that for folks who don’t have money to donate (and that’s a lot of people in the US these days) that volunteers are almost always welcome for all kinds of organizations too and that there is more than one way to help make your community a better place.
I'm just happy it was short so the political message doesn't get in the way of the music, which is what I came for. As someone who doesn't buy into identity politics and the oppressor vs oppressed or privileged vs underprivileged mindset (I really don't mind it that other people do btw, different beliefs, different opinions, it's all good), and just comes here for awesome music, I'm glad that she at least keeps it short :) and gets back to the music. That's just kinda cool to me, she spreads what she believes in but in a way someone who's from the opposite side can respect and to not take away too much for that person in terms of the entertainment they came for.
@@victoriaoladapo7017 _"As someone who doesn't buy into identity politics and the oppressor vs oppressed or privileged vs underprivileged mindset"_ Don't want to make a firestorm, but are you just saying you are denying that these issues exist?

It was such a beautiful speech. Sometimes, I cringe at white musicians (being white myself) making insincere statements about race and equality even though I often agree with the sentiment. She was so obviously speaking from the heart though, and she’s right! I know I’m privileged, and it shouldn’t be that way! Everyone should be born and treated equal, the only thing that should affect the way we’re treated should be our actions.

A couple of months ago I went to their concert and she used her message to highlight an organisation in my city Toronto and even brought the representatives to the show if anyone wanted more information on it. So glad I found this group 2 years ago.

T Green Moonchild, the gift that keeps on giving. Keep on streaming T!
When I saw him I was like well play it the way you feel it then sir!
ditto
Given some of these comments - many of these humans could care less about "bettering humanity" ...or least the melanated portion...
A faint rainstorm on a cool, breezy, clear summer night was the description I NEEDED!!! Great writing!
"It is not charity, it is solidarity as you didn't deserve the privileges." Love love love this
It’s woke virtue signaling
@@surfboarding5058as a Black person and lover of Moonchild for like 7 yrs it made me smile 🤷🏿♂️
Can we just give it up for all the MULTI-talented and musically gifted people in this tiny desk?! Especially homeboy andris in the yellow handling the keys, trumpet, AND guitar. You can tell he really FEELS the music
I think that's a cornet
David S It’s a flugelhorn

Yessir
Exactly what I was thinking, it's captivating 😊
Yea it's nice.
When the universe decides to come together, it sounds like this
Krazy you said that because I feel the same way. It's effortless. Natural sounding music. Beautiful on every level.
What a beautiful and true sentence!!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Moonchild!!! STILL listening in 2022!!!!

2024👂🎶🎤😏🙌
@@yahneyoung5505 Yesssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!! 🫶🏼💕💯🔥
The fact that she looks like she’s enjoying her songs makes me even love watching her perform more
This is why in high school it’s best to get close to the band members and show choir kids, because when they mix together this is what happens!!
At least this is what happened at my school!
Pure love!!
This is such a true statement! Lol all of the theater and choir kids at my HS work in Hollywood or Hollywood adjacent lol
One of the most underrated groups of neo soul been following them since their first project....hate this pandemic has it where I can’t even see them on their tour with Jill
Scott...
🤯🤯🤯 Really ... Where was it going to be??!!!!?
@@everettewingfield5123 Philadelphia, I believe. I got to see them perform in new Orleans a week before this pandemic hit. They were awesome.
I know you playing DANG! lol Jill plus this group wow.
I was fortunate enough to see them w/Jill Scott right before the shutdown and got an autographed vinyl! They were amazing as expected!
They were gonna come to Orlando she discovered them on bandcamp and they opened for her tour man straight ear candy
The fact that they are playing multiple instruments is definitely insane talent
The whole thing feels like heavy blankets on cold days
Y Lewis a beautiful line
I "Like" many things but rarely comment. After watching this for the 20th time in the past couple weeks I feel compelled. I'm 65 and music has always been a huge part of my my life. Primarily a jazz fan, but I listen to everything. I'm so impressed by the way you wed so many influences into a completely soulful experience. I get teary when I hear and see your passion. And Amber, your message after the second song was amazing and prophetic and spot on. I plan to listen to you as long as you're making music.
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽everything you said!
I was wondering if I was the only one that gets close to crying when listening to this, simply out of the emotions...
Hey if you like this you should check out the artist Raveena’s Tiny Desk Concert, I think you may really enjoy her sound as well!
AMEN !!!
"Moonchild". Their music is the perfect antidote for a nervous condition. If Amber Navran's voice can't calm you down, just check yourself into the nearest clinic.
I’ve never seen anyone so happy to perform, her smile is beautifully infectious.
Well said
I'm just happy it was short so the political message doesn't get in the way of the music, which is what I came for.
Well said!
@@victoriaoladapo7017 _"As someone who doesn't buy into identity politics and the oppressor vs oppressed or privileged vs underprivileged mindset"_
Don't want to make a firestorm, but are you just saying you are denying that these issues exist?
Moon child and Tom Misch could make a stellar album together
THIS!!
I think he'd get found out!
@@michaelbrathwaite7019 Witty but for real no doubt that guy has some proper talent
TRUE!!!!
omg i recently found them out both at the same time. They would make a hit
This girl got every Music Degree you can get.
I just love Ambers voice and her dimples are so adorable 🤩🥰
I would’ve cried if they performed ‘The Truth’..or ‘The Cure’..who am I kidding, I still cried lol
when they say you’ve got the key 😭😭
Real talk
I feel you on that with the Truth - would have loved them to get that one in! But they did The List, so I'm just as happy...
Keith Wills lol true glad they blessed us with ‘The List’
the cure gets me too lol
IT’S NOT CHARITY IT’S SOLIDARITY
“As you grow professionally and financially your responsibility to give grows with you so spend your privilege”
Yeah I'm a fan
It was such a beautiful speech. Sometimes, I cringe at white musicians (being white myself) making insincere statements about race and equality even though I often agree with the sentiment. She was so obviously speaking from the heart though, and she’s right! I know I’m privileged, and it shouldn’t be that way! Everyone should be born and treated equal, the only thing that should affect the way we’re treated should be our actions.
@@08mlascelles I read on BBC and another source that she's not white, she's actually Iranian American..! She might be mixed then since she's calling herself white here
@@momoshun this gets into the crazy world of race. The Iranian I've asked considers himself both white and asian. I think he is correct, to the degree there is such a thing as race, which there isn't, but...
Ayn Rand does not like this xp
I wish Google would allow you you save clips into a playlist. There are so many soundbites that I would like to use and have the clip itself refer back to the full source for full context.
Moonchild is a whole mood, the band, the background vocals.... perfection. The message though Amber.... Much respect!
I agreeee.... all except the incessant rhythmic head-bounding. Rather listen than watch!!
@@s2s_parrotfan236 lol really? I enjoyed it.
A couple of months ago I went to their concert and she used her message to highlight an organisation in my city Toronto and even brought the representatives to the show if anyone wanted more information on it. So glad I found this group 2 years ago.
@@EricG-bv2ui I want to go to a concert so bad lol. I would love more information thanks so much.
@@anayadivine6494 they are a a group of accomplished musical and multi instrumentalists. That alone makes their show a massive treat. Catch them and you wont regret.
The organisation Amber highlighted in my city is the Parkdale Community Legal Services. They deal with a whole list of issues that affect marginalized groups. They tackle issues involving housing, workers right, immigration etc. Look em up. They do great work.
And she's singing live! Beautiful voice. Beautiful group. Beautiful everything across the board!
pristine keys, harmonies, beats and instruments that require a breeze
Can't think of a better group to feature when it comes to current Neo Soul....
Moonchild is NEO SOUL. Love this group.
ABSOLUTE FACTS
Interviewer : "So....what instruments do you guys play?" Mooncild: "Yes"
😁😁😅😅
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Audience: They play ALL OF THEM. Now interviewer, shhhh.
😂😂😂😂😂
Now this is music for the soul. It's impossible to be in a bad mood while listening to Moonchild.
Andris Mattson my man, every time I come by, you surprise me again.
4:43 Andris deserves some serious respect for playing the flugelhorn and the bass lines at the same time
My sentiments exactly
Moon child goes with Tiny Desk like peanut butter and jelly.
With toasted bread!
