Everybody talks about how one band has more talent than another, or how one writes better and more original music but these days, bands like Kokoroko, a group of people who seem effortless in the way they play, and really just look like they're enjoying each other's musicianship - that's the highest musical achievement for me.
Reminds me of earlier times, Like 1930s/40s Jazz Era Clarinetist Artie Shaw: "Everybody Played an Instrument... or else they carried guns" 1960s/early 70s-- EVERYBODY played in a Band -- Music was Everywhere!!! Great musicians & jam sessions! (Today's Synthesizer $hit ain't music)

But after a few years, his music became stale.... The 80s Synth-Pop was fun at first, but lacking talent or innovation. So, IMO, there's NOTHING BEATS like a Real Rhythm Section!! Ever listened to Marcus Miller Band? Jazz Bass Guitar -- Incredible!!!

Jesus Christ ! RUclips just showed me a framed picture of a woman playing the trumpet. I cliked and now I am mind blown by the high quality of that music.
I see people on the comments talking about talent, but i dont see only talent here. What they have is called harmony, and its something almost like magic. Of course they have talent to play their instruments but you can hear how they enjoy playing together. Everyone's doing their part but they wouldnt sound like this if it wasnt for their cooperation. It's beautiful seeing(and listening) to these people who are clearly just vibing with their sounds. Its so beautiful. I love it.
The highest musical achievement for me and my people is to preserve the heritage and strength and light that has been continuously drained out of us! that's why it's so rare to see and here this in this time because they are embracing the Holy Spirit cultivating it and letting it shine we are the people of the book HalleluYAH!!!!

I can hear the James Brown influence which was adapted by Fela Kuti in their horn section, the bass, and the drums. American Black music is the gold standard! (smiles proudly).
It was the other way around. Were u around in Nigeria during the FESTAC in 1977. JB was there & was taking his entire band members to FELA's joint for them to c what he wanted. Pls, study the history. The mother comes first b4 the child. Africa is the foundation of all music altho' everyone add their own icing on the African cake as their environments dictates. As the Yoruba adage goes, a river must neva 4get it source.

@@Stabacs its rarity to see this kind of arrangement. there are great sax, clarinet[Cohen brother] harmonica female musician but not very often you see 3 of them playing as a lead-especially on this kind of instrument[trumpet for example] but maybe it is just my ignorance-any way they sound great- regardless of their gender

They are so talented..... Iove the Uk jazz scene. I wish people had more appreciation for that genre here in Toronto. They need to tour hear or come to the Toronto jazz festival and the Montreal jazz festival. Them and Kamasi Washington are making jazz fun for the younger generations. Wow! this is some good music that gives me flashbacks of my humble beginnings as a bass player in Washington DC area in the early 80's...with 3 of the awesome percussionist. Eventually we had 11 members with all live music. Anyway...I just wanted to give the band some positive feedback...Nice!! Love what you are doing!!
DC area had some great authentic musicians when I lived there many yrs ago -- hope that you are doing well and able to carry on the traditions!!! Duke Ellington was from DC!

Wow! Love the concepts. Jazz Messengers on a completely boss level. That frontline is tops at popping out well-crafted horn lines like that, and the rhythm section is simply amazing. Enjoyed the ultra modern direction the band took while still acknowledging the core tradition. So glad the trumpet player finally stepped out and blew some seriously fresh solo stuff. We all know that tone, too. The greats all had it. And dig those awesome vocals. The surprise drummer's non-ending that perfectly ended the second song. Great job! Grammy?
