I'd like to argue that the post credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home is up there with the three other Marvel post credit scenes Voss mentioned. The bombshell of Peter's identity being revealed alongside a surprise JJJ cameo by J.K. Simmons and the tease of what comes next in Phase 4 (which ended up being No Way Home's 3 Peters) was a satisfying tie in that makes the MCU Spider-Man trilogy one of a kind
Ant Man 2's scene was pretty intense. Still reeling from the end of Infinity War, we see Ant Man as this sort of comic relief. Then the post credit scene just pulls out the rug from under us, reminding every one that there is still some serious stuff going on.
its probably going to be the greatest contribution to film the MCU does. its like the matrix with bullet speed - everyone in the genre has to have it now and im not mad about it
Honestly, I was waiting for a post credit scene for this video! Would've been really ingenious if the editors had added a post credit scene in this very video! Also, Eric, you're doing an amazing job over here at The Deep Dive! Love it!
@@DeepDiveNR BP2 should have been delayed. Since marvel was desperate to make a movie then it should’ve taken place after Infinity War. Tchalla was dead for 5 years so that would have been perfect to honor Chadwick in BP 2 then have a post credit scene when Tchalla(in the suit with his face covered) gets blipped back then he’s off to endgame. That would have been a great way to say good bye to Chadwick as Tchalla but not kill Tchalla all together post Endgame. Toussaint Tchalla is a slap to the face to Tchalla as a character Jack Kurby and Chadwick
I think that should really just have been the final scene of the film though. Save the ant playing the drums as a joke for the end of the credits, but a huge piece of plot info should, you know, actually be in the movie. It's not like Fury turning up in Iron Man, which worked as a fun nod to fans if the whole MCU didn't get off the ground as much as setting up all of Phase One.
@@samuelhonywill8326 Ya I agree. That scene should've been the final scene for the movie. The Loki Post Credit was a true post credit because it was tying into another story which will be coming really soon but with some connective tissue to the story we just saw.
I love end credit scenes. I think a lot of these problems will correct themselves. I love the ones I don’t totally understand and really leaves me guessing what is happening next. Very interesting history that I didn’t know.
I was just discussing with my cousin the other day how much we miss old Pixar bloopers during the end credits of their movies. Great analysis as always, Erik!!
I'd like to hear your thoughts on Monster Culture in a future episode. The idea that the big-bads in stories reflect the phobias of a society in a given time. Dracula being potentially the ending of the Victorian era, or illnesses like the bubonic plague. Zombies represent the fear of deep poverty to the middle class. I've also heard zombies associated with a fear of technology/modernization as those are the things which humans tend to try to rely on and ultimately fail in many of those stories. But taking those thoughts and applying them to today's biggest stories is interesting. Or even especially looking at the rise of the anti-hero. The idea that the villains in our stories may be actually be the heroes, as a culture we begin to protest more publicly the ideas of police reform and wealth disparity.
Oh, this is a juicy one, I can tell. Also, Erik, the Infinity War post-credit scene with Nick Fury being dusted also set up Captain Marvel with the pager.
You made a perfect point: we don’t mind sitting through the credits for the extra bonus scene, just if you’re setting some story up for the future, deliver on the promise!
The worst post credit scenes are the one where you are left sitting there just for what is to come and it ends up being something stupid or meaningless or worse just a straight up advertisement for the next film that has NOTHING to do with the events of the film we just watched, and what's worse is the possibility that we may never see that come to light. The good post credit scenes pay off and really doesn't feel like you are sitting there waiting for it. Just admiring the work that has been done.
Some of the post-credit scenes that ended up being the best were scenes that really should have been before the credits, like Ant Man & The Wasp's scene of Scott getting stuck in the Quantum Realm due to the Snap, and Spiderman: Far From Home's scene of Mysterio framing Spiderman for the drone attack and outing his identity.
Ant-Man 2's post credit scene (mid-credit?) was helpful in establishing the movie's timeline I suppose. It didn't set any expectations for a third film, introduce a new character, or complete an integral arc to a main character 🤷 It also made you think how he would even get out of the quantum realm during Endgame which was pretty important!
I feel like that similar to the important post credit scenes from iron man and the avengers films, endgame not having one was the prefect way to wrap up that saga
Hey Eric! Great job as always. My idea for one of your next deep dives is for your all time favorite film! Whatever it is, do a deep dive on that movie. It'll be awesome, you know it always is lol
9:34 you have no idea how excited I got when I learned that this guy was the scorpion. There is so so so so much potential there. That actor is phenomenal and really builds a presence in the roles he steps into. Would love to see an awesome character get an portrayed by an awesome actor. Spider man fans deserve this movie.
Not only was it the topic and history I reallllly wanted for number three, but - in true Voss fashion - he took it a step further by giving us criteria for analysis and his evaluation using those criteria. I know he *says* it's not fun work, but these results are worth the effort required to produce them
I liked the post credit scenes at the end of GOTG 3, it was nice that Peter reunited with his grandfather, and Rocket has a new team. I like it gave characters we love a happy ending. Like when we had Steve dancing with Peggy.
I think it's because recent PCS were vague and leads to no where. The first phase of the MCU all had interconnected scenes with each other, giving us a clear direction like "Oooh that's from Thor" or "Oooh hey that's connected to the other film" and that got people intrigued as the connected shows have already been released. It all leads to Fury's Big Week. Look at the recent PCS, Klea going into the multiverse was confusing...or Pip showing up introducing Eros like wtf who are you bruh? And Kang was just introduced 2 hours ago, immediately we got even more Kang raining down on us at the end but doesn't show what that means for us. It's like our investments are never getting any returns. It's been dragging on far too long with too many movies not showing a clear direction. The multiverse saga sucks. And no, not everyone is familiar with the comics so you'll need to look at it from their perspective. We now have a lot of direction but not one was solidly established. We have celestials, multiverse & incursion, secret invasion, monsters & mutants, and I'm even not including the D+ shows like Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Daredevil...it all shoots off towards different direction. If that's deliberate in order to diversify the MCU, then the reception they're getting now is perhaps by design? But how long can they sustain before it implodes?
I've grown up sitting through credits all my life (mainly because I like listening to the music) so staying until the end is just what I do anyway. As post-credit scenes have become more prevalent, I've begun liking them less and less. Things like Xavier transferring his mind into another body, almost feel like non-canon moments because they can be missable. If it's important, tell your story IN your movie, not piecemeal. Since I'm not a fan of treating films like long-running tv shows, I'm not into any post-credits that set up 'next product to consume.' But I'm fine with amusing and/or scary codas connected to what we watched. Neat video.

Not exactly a post credit scene but I seem to remember at the end of the credits of the first Bond films, the last line of text used to say “James Bond will return in….”
Yeah, I think these are relevant. They were a little last exciting jolt to a little kid. Sometimes they already had the movie title locked down, too, and since they were all based on novels, you could imagine the next film a little.
5:31 Pirates of the Caribbean 5 also had an end credits scene of Will Turner having a nightmare of Davy Jones coming in his room and attacking him before waking up and showing the puddle with barnacles on the floor.
It wasn't an MCU or Comic Book movie (well, it kinda had Thor -- played by Kingpin, no less), but "Adventures in Babysitting" had one of my favorite after credit scenes. One of the baddies was pursuing the protagonists and chased them onto the ledge of a skyscraper. They escaped and the bad guy was not seen again during the course of the movie. After the credits rolled, the flashed to the bad guy with his back against the glass, still stuck on the ledge in a state of panic.

I would also add the post-credit scene from Ant-Man and the Wasp showing Scott trapped in the quantum realm and the others being dusted because it took what was a standalone series and connected it to the larger MCU Infinity Saga and led directly into Endgame.
The post credit scene for Deadpool & Wolverine also was a great one because it helped pay off a running gag while just being its own thing and not having to set anything up. On another note let me know when you’re hiring huge fan and the thoughts in my mind are like space endless I would love to contribute and be part of something great as your channel which is my favorite #facts bye
I grew up listening to the credits music, thinking of it as a free John Williams concert. I remember dancing to the credits for Ghostbusters 2 on HBO. So, when Pirates of the Caribbean had a post-credit scene, I was pleasantly surprised. Now, I expect something at the end of every movie. I'm actually surprised when people leave a Marvel movie early.
I am a supporter of post credit scenes because it incentivizes us to stay and acknowledge the many people who gave us the movie experience we just had. My rules for a good post/mid credit scene is that it has to be something “extra” and not needed to complete the story of the movie it follows. The movie itself should end before the credits. That’s why I didn’t like the Wakanda Forever scene, because it should have just been the actual end of the movie. You shouldn’t HAVE to watch it. It’s just a nice treat for those who did. It should also not tease anything unless that thing is actually going to happen or matter. It’s really a great way to tie up some loose end about a minor character that the actual movie didn’t have time for or to give the audience something to talk about while anticipating the next movie (if it is real). My favorite after credit scene was Spider-Man Far From Home, because the story was over and concluded, but then suddenly it wasn’t. It ended on a cliffhanger that set up the central conflict of the next movie and they really paid it off. Still, if you didn’t see it, you still got a complete story. I also liked the scene from Spider-Man Homecoming, because it was an important character moment for the villain. He went to jail knowing Spider-Man’s true identity, which could be a plot hole, but the after credit scene answered that by showing that the Vulture was a lot of things, but he was no snitch. Peter’s identity was safe with him. Both of those were good use of the concept IMO.
I love it when you mention obscure films. HEAD is one of my favorite weird movies. Frank Zappa and that cow, Teri Garr, all the surrealist moments that are or become music videos🥰 The other day I heard you mention Dark Star and I clapped loudly, alone, watching you.😅👏👏👏 There is a wonderfully weird film called The Wizard of Speed and Time that was only on VHS until some kind soul put it on RUclips. All about handmade vfx, the Hollywood machine, and has two very surprising cameos. 10/10 highly recommend to any film loving nerd.
I remember seeing Spiderman Homecoming late on opening Thursday and the whoel theater reacting to sitting through all the credits just to have the Captain America PSA come up. Some laughed and others were annoyed. I loved it.
If this video doesn’t end with a post credit scene teasing a video that you won’t make for another 5 years or so, ima be PISSED!! because that’s what I’m used to 🤘🏽😎 lol
Great video, and well-researched. Honestly, I get the idea of a deep dive and enjoyed it, but I think Captain Marvel and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania were both films whose post-credit scenes didn't overshadow the movie except for people who are focused on critique. I think that the general move-going audience just takes them as they are. I do agree that if a post-credit scene has something to to with an upcoming movie, it should be paid off on screen.
First post credit scenes I ever saw in a movie were in the thriller Wild Things and they were fantastic - not teasing a sequel, just showing gory scenes that took place during the narrative but weren't shown at the time. Ultimately they were unnecessary but definitely added to the experience!
The first midguided post-credits sequel tease I can remember is Skeletor saying "I'll be back!" at the end of Master of the Universe. He, uh... wasn't...
Never realized that so many post credit scenes happened before X3. The one with Charles Xavier was the first one I ever saw, so I thought that was a pretty new thing.
The Thanos one in Avengers is a bit of retroactive praise. It's well known that Whedon just threw that in for a fun bit, not with th explicit idea that Thanos was going to be the larger villian of a saga. They only went down that route due to the responce. Otherwise why retcon later down the line that both the items in Avengers were actually Infinity Stones if it was the plan all along? I really believe that most 'set up' post credit scenes are shots in the dark, and sometimes later down the line ideas change, which should be able happen. Movies and series should have the leeway to adapt and head in a different direction if the creatives wish to do that, and not be hamstrung by ones of other directors'/writers choices (looking at you Rian Johnson).
I see a lot of similarities between the post-credits scene of movies and hidden tracks on CDs. in both cases, a once clever and intriguing idea to lure you back in after you think the experience is over, overused to the point of annoyance. we're lucky that digital music bucked that trend with albums. hopefully something does the same for movies.
I love NewRockers, been a fan for a long time, and im LOVING the Deep Dive. If possible, something i havent seen talked about on NewRockstars and id love to see here, which, i think it would be perfect for, is a Deep Dive into the Smallville series and its impact on superhero movies and tv shows, as well as its impact on the Superman mythos itself.
You missed a much more important post credit scene after the Dean Martin one but LONG before any of the super hero ones. Steven Speilberg put a very clever post credit at the end of Young Sherlock Holmes where someone signs into the guestbook of the hotel with the name Moriarty.
Great analysis. The Captain Marvel roast/saying what we all noticed was brilliant. It's not even a bad movie, but it feels like a grade-A MCU assembly line product.
I do like having more people stay in the theater to recognize all of the under appreciated people who worked hard in the movie but not every movie or movie series should have post credit scenes. I hope Star Wars doesn’t start to put any in cuz it wouldn’t make sense and they never done it before and honestly the music is enough for me. But no matter the movie, even if I know there isn’t a post credit scene, I always stay and watch the full credits and listen to the music.
I like it when they do creative credits so that they are entertaining (or continue the mood of the film’s ending) and ease us back out of what we just watched while encouraging us to acknowledge all of the credits.
The post credit scene I hated the most was Spiderman no way home - it was completely disconnected from the movie, so much that they released it separately from the movie a few days later. I do think it's important to remember that even in your top 3 - Nick Fury's Avengers wasn't really paid off for 4 years (2008-2012) and Thanos wasn't really paid off for 6 years (2012-2018) so the fact that Kang isn't likely to be paid off for 2 years is very small beans. That doesn't address the fact that the entire movie of quantumania was just set up for Kang Dynasty but the timeline here isn't really a problem
Eric puts so much effort into these videos and we all love him even more for this.

Wow that's a great topic to cover. Haven't seen this sort of analysis on post credit scenes.
Another great Deep Dive... can't wait for the next hour+ long video
Great video man!
Damn dude you’re effin good at your job the way you explain and dive into said movies leaves all my questions answered thank you.
NWH really did it proper with the M.O.M. trailer as a 2nd post credit. I think they should do that more often! ❤
Frank Zappa and that cow, Teri Garr, all the surrealist moments that are or become music videos🥰
The other day I heard you mention Dark Star and I clapped loudly, alone, watching you.😅👏👏👏
There is a wonderfully weird film called The Wizard of Speed and Time that was only on VHS until some kind soul put it on RUclips.
I loved it.
'Patience' will always be my favorite, simply because it called us all out. :D
If this video doesn’t end with a post credit scene teasing a video that you won’t make for another 5 years or so, ima be PISSED!! because that’s what I’m used to 🤘🏽😎 lol
im been fan of new rockstars since 2021.
You all still amazing.
THANKS for this!!!!! Learned a lot!!!!
Now this is the kind of video I'm talking about. This is what we deserve as fans. Go Gators.
keep these kind of videos coming voss
Great video! 💪🏽
Great Video The Deep Dive
The pirates of the Caribbean last post credits scene is actually dead men tell no tales
The fact that this video doesn't have credits with all who made your videos possible and then a post credit scene is worth enough to dislike it.
I Saw Sylvester Stallone In The Most Recent GOTG V3 Trailer, So Maybe That Might Tie Up The Post Credit From V2
The Great Outdoors was the film that had me stay after every end credits scene since. Damn raccoons
Big Voss Man! Punchin the clock
Great video Erik!!!!!!!!
Not going to lie, I love the idea for this video. So far, the Deep Dive rocks!
The funny about the Daredevil PCS with bullseye is that in portuguese, "Bullseye" literally translates to "Na Mosca" which means "On the fly"
Great video!!
Jim Carey's Liar Liar had the best blooper reel as a post credit scene
Best one yet!
