This movie is like a love letter for anyone into 80's pop culture and I fucking love every second of it even though it is different from the book. I was sort of sad that ultraman is not in this but changing it to gundam is the best decision they can make
In the book, he has a 3 minute time limit and it isn't just a robot. And appropriately, he chooses the form of Ultraman. So we get the closest we've ever gotten to Godzilla vs Ultraman. And as a HUGE kaiju-eiga and Tokusatsu nerd, I wish we had that in the movie, BUT Tsubaraya was still in court with a lunatic from Thailand for their international distribution rights so it couldn't be worked out. So Gundam was used instead.
This movie was loads of fun for pop culture and nostalgia! Spielberg sure speaks high volumes for us pop culture fans and this is a film that amplifies it louder!
What would your character have as weapons in the OASIS? Me- it would be Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber, Force Powers, the Peace-Maker from Ratchet and Clank and Skyrim Dragon-shouts.
You started discussing it a little, but the book goes so in detail of how VR is the world. With overpopulation and such, everyone goes to school IN the Oasis, and thats the starter planet Parzival is basically stuck on.
Great movie! I got it on DVD last Christmas. The Matrix meets Tron. A fun and entertaining sci-fi action adventure film. Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cook have good chemistry.
*Parsifal kicks Sorrento in the groin, suit replicates it* Shane: why would you have that? One hour earlier... *Artemis grinds on Parsifal’s groin, suit replicates it* Me: THATS why you have that
Me and my (At the time) 10 year old were excited for the film, I took him to see it in theater, then we bought the book at a Costco and read it over a couple of weeks at bedtime. Love both of them, VASTLY UNDERRATED and INCORRECTLY seen as a cash grab in my opinion.
The MechaGodzilla design is actually based off the poster art for Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II (1993), where they used a different design than what showed up in the movie.
Never seen this movie but just watching this reaction have me chills... I heard it wasn't amazing but seeing all those characters in different scenarios was great
in the original book, it was Ultraman who fought MechaG, who was based off his Kiryu design. but they couldn't get Ultraman's or Kiryu's rights for the movie, so they went with the Iron Giant and Gundam, and MechaG was fashioned after Legendary's take on the big guy.
@Johnathon Davis so it'll be like Batman v Superman- they fight until a common threat (still hoping for Destroyah) makes them team up. and since they said there will be a definitive winner, one of them will surely die. the question is: who.
@Johnathon Davis mm...but Toho themselves killed Godzilla... *counts on fingers* 4 times. the original, Tristar, GMK, and the quote unquote "Baby" from the anime trilogy
During the race scene with those various familiar cars, I could’ve sworn seeing one of those racers sporting an MLP sticker on their rear bumper. Tough to spot.
IOI = One oh One. The apartment number of Neo in The Matrix. "The One". That's my favorite reference. But there are so many. The most fun movie I've seen in a decade.
Read the book before seeing the movie and loved both for what they were and both just made me so happy with all the references and when Mega Godzilla showed up it gave me goosebumps. Plus the movie came out on my birthday and it was a great way to spend it.
I enjoyed the book as well as the movie. It's still amazing that the movie even got made considering how much of a licensing nightmare the story truly is. It just goes to show the power Spielberg has in the industry that he was able to get just about everything from the book on board for the movie adaptation which I thought would never happen.
Very little of book challenges were in the movie. No D&D, or War Games, or Zork, or RUSH, or Blade Runner, etc. Spielberg got free access to all the WB properties since it was a WB movie.
47:20 In the book there are portals to go between planets and it costs in-game money to travel, Wade's poor but he's also in school for the whole beginning of the book. The movie never shows him in school at all.
As a Zoomer with strict parents I was not familiar with 90% of the references in this movie. But I thoroughly enjoyed it anyway, so IMO the movie stands for itself. this is why I hate the fact that people call this "Fan-Service " the movie.
For the race i would choose Speed Racer's Mach 5. it has many abilities such as saw blades, jump jacks, tire shields, bullet proof cockpit, tire spikes, and a homing drone. (The rotary saws can cut through almost anything)
from what I've seen of the book it's just "... pop culture reference and then I went to Star Wars and spider-man was there and the DJ played that one really popular 80s song and pop culture reference..."
That's what has put me off from both reading the book and seeing the film; I genuinely almost bought the book before the movie came out because I'd heard it was really popular and dystopian sci-fi is my jam, but I read reviews of it and they were very mixed; all the negative reviews went into great depth about how the story and characters were really weak and it just relied on "weaponised nostalgia" for the 80s for its appeal. For comparison most of the positive reviews of the book could be summed up as "I liked it because it reminded me of the 80s". Obviously having not read the book myself it could turn out to be something I really like, but until I hear a really persuasive counter-argument to those negative reviews, I am in no hurry to read it.
If you liked the movie, read the book. The main story revolves around the quest and is completely different, so it is not like he movie spoiled the book. The audiobook is awesome as well, read by Wil Wheaton.
I too LOVED the book (read it first before watching the film)!! While I know the film is different to the book but I understand why it had to be liked that due to time retrain and legal reasons.
Aech: [Discussing Parzival's upcoming date with Art3mis] Z, you gotta be more careful about who you meet out on the OASIS. Parzival: Aech, Art3mis gets me. She'll get my outfit, there's just this connection. I mean, sometimes, we even... Aech: Finish each other's sentences. Parzival: Yeah! Aech: We have that, me and you. Parzival: Yeah, I know. But that's because we're best friends, dude. [Puts hand up for a high-five] Aech: She could be a dude too, dude. Parzival: Nah, come on. Aech: I'm serious. She could actually be a 300 pound dude who lives in his momma's basement in suburban Detroit. And her name is Chuck. [Puts hand on Parzival's shoulder] Aech: Think about that.
if you've seen the movie and are wanting to read the book, don't put it off. It is insanely good, and the movie doesn't spoil too much. I don't even like reading and it was amazing, so I recommend you check it out

I loved the book it's one of my all time favorites
PS Spielberg originally wanted Gene Wilder to play Halliday
This movie was loads of fun for pop culture and nostalgia! Spielberg sure speaks high volumes for us pop culture fans and this is a film that amplifies it louder!
Thank You...*cries violently*...THANK YOU!!!
Pretty damn good film IMO
IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!
What would your character have as weapons in the OASIS? Me- it would be Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber, Force Powers, the Peace-Maker from Ratchet and Clank and Skyrim Dragon-shouts.
Jonathan Shaw I’d have the Master Sword and Ezra Bridger’s lightsaber(bc blaster-saber)
I’d have lantern ring
Infinity gauntlet that doesn't kill me.
D E X I L just leave out one stone. But which?
D E X I L don’t snap anyone out of existence and we won’t have a problem.
*Parsifal kicks Sorrento in the groin, suit replicates it*
Shane: why would you have that?
One hour earlier...
*Artemis grinds on Parsifal’s groin, suit replicates it*
Me: THATS why you have that
Imagine how much it would suck if Tuesdays and Thursdays were your only days off from work.
I am waiting ever so patiently for the Live Action Gundam Movie to finally hit Theaters!
People talk about fan service like its a bad thing
This movie is so underrated.
The Gundam scene was my favorite.
The MechaGodzilla design is actually based off the poster art for Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II (1993), where they used a different design than what showed up in the movie.
This movie is AMAZING and the rewatch value is SO HIGH
I’m loving the movie reactions! Just fully caught up on the dexter and breaking bad reactions also!
"It's the only place you can get a decent meal."
Never seen this movie but just watching this reaction have me chills... I heard it wasn't amazing but seeing all those characters in different scenarios was great
I don’t know if someone said it in the movie but I wish someone said “ITS A GUNDAAAAAM!” When RX-78-2 Gundam appeared.
Id pay money to have a ready player one series!!! The only problem would be trying to get all the franchise to agree with letting them use there IPs.
in the original book, it was Ultraman who fought MechaG, who was based off his Kiryu design. but they couldn't get Ultraman's or Kiryu's rights for the movie, so they went with the Iron Giant and Gundam, and MechaG was fashioned after Legendary's take on the big guy.
@Johnathon Davis i forgot about Destroyah. look, point is, he died before.
During the race scene with those various familiar cars, I could’ve sworn seeing one of those racers sporting an MLP sticker on their rear bumper. Tough to spot.
I love how "player 1" t-shirt guy, immediately got into the movie like 3 seconds in 😂 "MINECRAFT WORLD!" i love it
IOI = One oh One. The apartment number of Neo in The Matrix. "The One". That's my favorite reference. But there are so many. The most fun movie I've seen in a decade.
The letters in Neo, if you rearrange them, just spell out One.
Don’t care what anyone says. I adore this film. Soooo much mindless fun.
"If you look under your seat, you'll see there's nothing there." AWESOME QUOTE ! :)
Absolutely loved that movie. I wish I had paid to see that in the cinema instead of Terminator 6. Steven Spielberg is a master of good movies.
The climax of the movie has to be the greatest climax of everything in cinema history.
33:25 AND 34:58 Aaron literally explains the premise of the Ready Player 2 book that came out a few months ago
This movie is absolutely stunning in VR 3D. Normal 3D is also good, but watching in 3D on my Quest 2 ... holy crap.
47:20 In the book there are portals to go between planets and it costs in-game money to travel, Wade's poor but he's also in school for the whole beginning of the book. The movie never shows him in school at all.
lucky for you guys they wrote another book Ready player two
Found out that the second clue was originally supposed to take place in the Bladerunner universe.
I loved that they showed Serenity from Firefly, one of my favorite easter eggs
@@robertwinslade3104 My favorite part of the book is the quest. The OASIS and the 80's theme is just the backdrop.
@@robertwinslade3104 U shouldn't let other people sway your mind
@@symonheiloguu No dude the book was boring as shit
They really made us watch The Iron Giant die again😭😭😭😭
Please @BlindWave React to The Dark Knight Returns Part I and II!!! 😀😍😀
There are no such thing as dark knight returns part 2
@@jere2963 whut? That series is 2 parter. One with two face and part 2 is against joker and superman.
@@ermitanyohermit3603 and the Mutants!!! 😀
Jere it’s an animated DC movie
I think they already watched it.
I heard somebody say it would have been an amazing to see Iron Giant meet Superman. I kind of agree
Did you realize that Sorrento's avatar was Superman?
This was so much fun, and glad it was semi blind too.
Ready Player One is my fav movie from 2018. Great to see your reaction to this amazing movie :)
If you pay attention to the race line up at the beginning of the movie, you can see Christine being driven by Laura Croft.
If you liked the movie, read the book.
The main story revolves around the quest and is completely different, so it is not like he movie spoiled the book.
The audiobook is awesome as well, read by Wil Wheaton.
Merecir did you see the Wil Wheaton poster in the movie? (When he’s trying on clothes for the date)
@@calciferhowl4553 Sure did.
Wil Wheaton is also featured in the book in a prominent position.
You should check out the anime movie Summer Wars. It has a similar virtual world that everything in reality runs through and a great story
[Puts hand up for a high-five]
Aech: She could be a dude too, dude.
Parzival: Nah, come on.
Aech: I'm serious. She could actually be a 300 pound dude who lives in his momma's basement in suburban Detroit. And her name is Chuck.
[Puts hand on Parzival's shoulder]
Aech: Think about that.
Any one else teared up at any point of the movie
Me:- Several points, specially the end
This is one of my favourite modern movies it ticked all my boxes
I was so excited when he did the Hadouken but I thought it was a Kamehameha.
Yes please make more of this type pf videos
The best thing to see on Internet today, for sure!
What a fun adventure movie. We dont get adventure movies a lot anymore.
Goonies etc.
if you've seen the movie and are wanting to read the book, don't put it off. It is insanely good, and the movie doesn't spoil too much. I don't even like reading and it was amazing, so I recommend you check it out
