    The reason Wade 'falls in love' with Art3mis so quickly is that she's basically an e-celebrity as a well known Twitch streamer (and I think RUclipsr?). Wade's been infatuated with her for a long time and he's fanboying pretty hard. You guys should definitely watch the Shining! It's too bad you haven't seen it, RP1 did an amazing job recreating the locations from the film. I read the RP1 novel and have to say I really love both the movie and book. They are very different, but have the same adventurous heart.

    The split between Halliday and Morrow is partially based on the split between the creators of Doom, Carmack and Romero. Carmack was the socially awkward genius programmer and Romero was the designer and front man. Romero was forced out because Carmack felt that he let the fame go to his head to the point that it was interfering with his design work, and other creative differences. In the decades since, Carmack has indicated in various interviews that he somewhat regrets the way he forced Romero out.
    In a fun "life imitates art" kind of way, Carmack would later go on to be a key player in the founding of Oculus. The book Masters of Doom covers the topic, and it's a really interesting read for anyone interested in VG history.

      Jane mentioned SAO near the start of the video, getting it confused with another recommendation. Yeah, great anime series that got too much hate from those that hated anime becoming a bit watered down for more mass appeal at the time. It has it's cheap moments villain-wise but generally a great watch with plenty of variety; especially GunGale Online spin-off. FYI a very underrated anime called Accel World was from the same writer set about 20 years after SAO showing how VR tech developed; shame that one never got more than one season and a bad film (they skipped too much for the film to make sense).

      Every time I listen to the audiobook I always slightly crack up when I get to the part where Wil Wheaton reads that the fictional version of himself is the vice-president of the OASIS User Council.
      But yeah, the book is much better as there is no way Ernest Cline (the books author) and Zak Penn could write a 1 to 1 direct translation of the book and still make it seem somewhat believable without it potentially making it look really goofy and taking the audience attention out of the movie, even with Spielberg directing (I certainly would not want to see a zombie king play an arcade game in an underground tomb).

    • @robertfalcon6083
      @robertfalcon6083 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@willbeonekenobi true and honestly the book makes a lot weirder and darker. And even sort of a dick lol Like the aunt was meaner and all, but he really wasn’t all that upset. Which is prob more real but movie is short and they want us to like him.
      But there was so much stuff I wish was still in it. But def things like a space base , playing the lead role in war games, and especially all the changes go through in the apartment. But still would have been cool to at kill off one of the team and also more Ogden

    the reason why the iron giant did not have his weapons was simply because it was not a canon character, but was built entirely by H. it was not an item that could be bought within the oasis.
    also, the reason that most people do not have direct neural interface is that it would be quite expensive, and would possibly cause some brain damage if the equipment was faulty or if it was used for too long. there were a few main ways to control your character;
    1. gloves and headset
    2. omni-directional treadmill with headset
    3. full body suit
    4. the chair that the bad guy was using

    The book came out around the 2010's and it's not set in the 90's because we didn't have this kind of VR in the 90's. I imagine the author chose roughly 30 years in the future because of Back to the Future but I'm just guessing (the dude does own a DeLorean after all). The creator of the Oasis (who died of old age) grew up in the 80's because he was a basic GenX/Xennial and that's why the characters all study 80's pop culture, to find his easter eggs.That's the entire premise of the book and why it's saturated with 80's pop culture, so it most definitely didn't take place in the 90's.

    When watching a science fiction movie wherein they give you a date, don't count from the year you're watching it; count from the year it was released. Ready Player One was released in 2017 so the date means it was 28 years in the future. Then extrapolate 28 years into from our present. That gives you a better sense of how far off that future is. In this case, 2052.

    To answer your question, the novel doesn’t take place in the 90s. It takes place a year prior from the movie, so that would be 2044.

    The grenade through the eye of Mecha-Godzilla was a Madballs from the 1980s named 'Dust Brain'. I have them all in their original packaging. I also have all series #1 He-Man MOTU figures and G1 Transformers.

    I'm actually on a Spielberg filmography "binge" since June. I have six more of his movies to go. I started with Duel back in June 2023. I started watching Bridge of Spies today. I need to finish it so I can then watch BFG, The Post, Ready Player One, West Side Story, and finally The Fabelmans. And by the way, a lot of his movies I've never seen before including Ready Player One. So, this will my first time watching it.

    The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch is a reference to the Monty Python movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. 😂
    Rosebud is a reference to the Orson Welles movie Citizen Kane. Rosebud was the red sled he rode on as a child. 😅
    The activation spell for the Orb of Osuvox is the spell Morgan Le Fay learned from Merlin The Enchanter from the movie Excalibur. Known as the Charm of Making. 😮
    The throwing weapon is the Glaive from the sci-fi/fantasy movie Krull. 😮

    I think most people don't realize the race for the first key is happening in the world of Grand Theft Auto 3 or 4. That's Liberty City. You start on the star shaped island with a statue of Liberty on it.

    I loved watching this movie in theaters, it was so much fun and it's definitely rewatchable because you want to try to get all of the references.
    I do like the overall message that reality is more important than virtual, because it's true. I love doing things online don't get me wrong, but doing things in reality is more fulfilling if you ask me. If your job requires doing things online, completely understand of course.
