I love how right here at 2:33 he gives christine the exact same deal he bets raoul with later, but switched. So that theres NO way he will lose.

It's an interesting thought that he halfheartedly threatened to take her son, so that she had an excuse to say yes... So it's not on her, that she wanted to sing his music again. The way he says "A man this hideous is capable of anything", a bit forced. This is just a thought

I wish we could exchange thoughts, but my English writing level is not the best and I feel that most of my words would be misrepresented. I interpreted Christine´s decision different, but I think that everyone can believe whatever prefer.
But when Erick threatened Christine, that was before he knew that Gustave was his son, after "The beauty underneath" he let Christine go, and asked her to take also Gustave with her without conditions. Then she said to him that she will sing anyway.

One of the things I love about LND (and believe me, they are few), is how they still snuck some of the tracks from POTO in. In this scene, we hear Stranger Than You Dreamt it, the title song, and Angel of Music/Wandering Child.
I agree it's one of the only things that saved it for me

Comparing to the DVD version of that evil angry emo phantom during this scene this phantom was actually very....nice lol And Christine wasn’t afraid of him like the Aussie version was.

But come to think of it, Christine has known him from the beginning and knows he’s capable of taking lives to satisfy his pleasure, so it’s reasonable enough to understand if the Aussie version interpreted her fear of him hurting Gustav, his own child that she doesn’t want him to know, or even killing him.

"Someone strange and mad!" the way Ramin's Erik glances over like ' Who me?'
I LOVE how you can see the shift in him here once Gustave runs into the room, he slips right into his Mr Y persona and you can see it’s starts making Christine nervous because she knows him too well….he was being real with her now he’s slipping back into Phantom mode so something’s coming and she’s bracing for it as she hurriedly sends Gustave to bed.
That sly look he gives her right before going into his little ultimatum makes me smile, Ramin’s just knows how to turn that switch so effortlessly lol
His fatal flaw is he keeps giving Christine these crazy ultimatum’s. Why can’t he just love her?
He's a narcissist. He needs power and control.
He’s obsessed with a version of her that isn’t who she actually is
He’s desperate to get her to sing for him again and then in comes Gustave who at this time he believes is Raoul’s kids which triggered his jealousy at the reminder that Raoul’s got her, so his possessiveness and obsession for Christine came roaring back to life…”in America you will sing ONLY for ME!” aka ‘You are MINE!’ basically
That’s the Phantoms character…his struggle between his obsession and his love, his obsession got triggered here.
Did anyone notice the 10 long years song is also stranger than you dreamt it from the classic phantom?

@@98hamtaro There’s a channel called the show must go on and they premiered musicals from ALW, so they showed the LND Australian version. Sadly, they only premiered it for the weekend so the only other way you could watch it is by buying the dvd

At 2:57, anyone notice he doesn’t agree she will get to leave when she asks, he says “will of course receive a princely fee”
On some level I think he knew one time wouldn’t be enough for either of them and he knew that once she sang for him again it would reawaken her passion both for his music and him because he has always been her Idol.
Regardless of what messed up stuff he does and as much as she might try and deny it…Christine absolutely worships his genius as much as he’s obsessed with her voice. So yeah he was after her the whole time and on some level I think Christine knew that, but was unable to keep herself from falling back under his spell.
Love how he's within 3 mins of meeting Gustave and he's all "THAT PERFECT SPECIMEN"

I don't understand. In this part, Ramin wore a tailcoat, but from Before The Performance to the end of the show, he wore a frock coat. It would have made more sense if it was the other way around

The thing about the Phantom is there is always this battle going on between his love for Christine and his Obsession with her.
Those two parts of his character are always at odds. Here we see his obsession come roaring on back when he gets desperate to hear Christine sing for him.
That dark side of him used to terrify Christine when she was younger but I like how now we just see her frustration with him like ‘really, you’re going to pull this crap again on me?” I honestly don’t think Erik would have harmed Gustave, maybe given him a scare at most but this was just him falling back into his old habits because he didn’t know how else to convince her to sing.
I thought the comments on the "Beneath The Moonlit Sky" video were just memeing about Gustave being in the other room 😨 I had no idea that this song proceeds that one.

This is the bit in the album i remember that strenger then i dremted
Overall I really like this version but there are just a few times it seems like there is distance between the words and the body language. Perhaps you can't tell expressions as well because of the distance of the camera though. In the middle of the scene here Phantom talks about keeping her son there eternally and Christine waits a second before responding with her line and the way he says "a man as hideous as this, believe me, is capable of anything" for me comes across more like he is just in habit saying that phrase automatically and doesn't really believe it. Maybe he had plans of how this conversation would go in his head and then putting the child into the middle of it was just something he is winging on the fly and he is convincing himself & her at the same time. That would make sense with the way that he goes back to almost rehearsed instructions of what will happen once she agrees to sing. The way he says "in America you will sing for me and only for me" before he leaves comes across as more dangerous than the "capable of anything" comment.
Does anyone know if this was one of the scenes they altered/shortened from the original longer version of this show? I'm wondering if there were other lines that aren't there anymore which might also explain this.

I love the original London cast with Ramin and Sierra. Thank you for sharing. More will be definitely better.
For years i only knew the original soundtrack from the London version. Then i saw the Australian version if DVD, and now i am seeing mire and mire from the actual London production. But this little part... in my opinion the CD version did it better than any of the actual theatre versions. For those who don't know: in the original soundtrack this part where the Phantom threatens to harm Gustave doesn't exist. He just promises to show him around after Gustave asks him to. This means he also doesn't threaten Christine to sing for him here. The first time you hear anything about the eventual will she or won't she sing scheme in tge soundtrack version is wheb the Phantom finds out Gustave is his son. And then Christine OFFERS to sing for him despite them wanting to leave earlier. All if this makes the Phantom a much more likeble character in that version. His whole manipulation game with Raoul could in that version be seen as a reaction on Christine admitting her desire to be with the Phantom again.

Oh yeah I LOVE Ben’s acting in this scene, his obsession for her just comes roaring out in full force as he’s grabbing her arms basically screaming in her face that he’s dying without her…so dramatic LOL
Weirdly romantic too even though it’s absolutely horrible what he’s threatening her with, so very Phantom and I happen to like that he’s still got his teeth, although on the surface he might appear to be more mellow…he’s not tamed in the slightest and I like him like that.

@@rachaelt8729 im mainly referring to how he views his appearance. His character hasn't really changed, but his relationship to his disfigurement has.
I just feel this was an empty threat on his part, he’s slipping back into his ‘Phantom’ persona, he’s desperate for her to sing for him and fell back into old habits.
Notice Christine is more sad and frustrated with him then scared…at least it seems so to me. It’s like her mind is going “seriously, you’re going to pull this crap on me again?!”
There’s no one like Ramin or Sierra. Beautiful people with equally beautiful voices. Also two of the biggest goobers on the face of the planet.
Watching this again I really love how Sierra’s Christine plays it here, she’s not scared of him, not anymore, she seems more hurt to me then anything, hurt that he would threaten her AGAIN, Sierra’s Christine is not as angry to me as say Anna’s Christine in the Australian show.
Sierra’s is more broken, by her Angel leaving her, by Raoul becoming a drunk and having to raise her son practically alone while her husband gambles away all their money…you get the sense she’s holding on for Gustave but has completely lost herself and her passion…and since their was no initial refusal from Christine here (unlike in the Australian Show) I think she’s more hurt that Erik thinks he HAS to threaten her to get her to sing for him when she might have agreed to sing for him anyway but his jealousy got triggered here and the old Phantom came out.
But Christine’s not scared this time, just sad.
