I feel so bad for that brother, he clearly cared so much about his sister and put himself in such a rough place to get justice for her. The part where he starts defending her and realizes he needs the full confession and goes "sorry I'm just throwing a tantrum, keep going" the level of restraint and mental fortitude to be able to catch yourself in that moment is intense.

Everyone thought he was creepy then, and when Maxx's sister went missing, the second we found out Chris was one of the last to see her, we all immediately knew who was responsible. After the fight that happened he didn't want any part of the fallout so he killed her. To the ones defending him it's Lea who's too good for her own good, fighting the person they were emotionally conected to she got what she got. Pulling this out my ass though. it's hilarious when chris starts his confession, telling the story about how she threatened him with the knife to buy drugs, Maxx goes "she would not do that you stupid moron stop lying" and then notices he's interrupting the confession and immediately apologizes "sorry of course she attacked you please continue"
I actually laughed at that too. I probably would've done the same. I commend Maxx for sitting through that nonsense in the name of justice for his sister.
That whole story felt so weird and inhuman, it was like he was telling them what happened in a novel or a TV show or something. I tried to imagine what I would say to a guy if I accidentally killed his sister in self-defense, and there's no way I don't just immediately start with "she's dead, I'm so sorry man, it was a terrible accident", instead of going on and on about how exactly we were standing with the knife or whatever.
It is unreal that Chris was willing to tell her brother and ex-boyfriend that he killed her. And it’s even more unbelievable that her brother and ex-boyfriend didn’t beat him to a pulp afterward. Incredible restraint.

Most people with one/more Cluster-B personality disorders (more so NPD or BPD, rather than ASPD) revert to DARVO (deny, attack, reverse, victim, oppressor). It's ingrained into their psyche. I can't imagine how hard it must be to look your sibling's murderer in the face, hear them pulling a bs story about how the victim attacked first, and have to just sit there and act like you're accepting it just on the hope that you can record a confession.
They did a really good job. The ex starts the Convo about the murder which is probably too much for the brother (I feel like he almost lashed out then remembered they're there for a confession). The brother also stopped the friend from asking "why he didn't call the cops" which isn't really an important question but could potentially shut Chris from talking. He calming stop her and ask Chris about what happened next to continue the confession. I wouldn't be able to think when the killer of my siblings is talking how they killed them or tarnish their personality to suit the killer's story.

I really admire the way Maxx handled himself during the confession, if my sibling's murderer tried to sell me an obviously fake version of events, trying to make themselves look like the victim, I wouldn't have been able to keep my composure nearly as long as he did
I must be a rare breed. I can keep my cool even longer. I would have had him talk about another 5 min. I want IRREFUTABLE evidence. I want the confession, what you did afterwards & a few more nails for the coffin. But I don’t know no one else like me. That’s why when I do play detective like this for people, I have to LIE to them, to exclude them from the interrogation because they last all of 2 seconds and WASTE WEEKS of hard stalking I’ve done and/or can’t stfu & let the person talk. And people act like being a therapist, investigator, detective or even cop is so simple. I hope people realize investigating requires patience and the intellect to understand verbal cues.

I'm only 37, working on my patience every day. Just yesterday someone tested my patience. I didn't get angry or raise my voice, like I normally would have done. For me, it's a conscience effort, everyday, to not be infuriated by the lack or empathy and the DISRESPECT I see around me, daily. But I'm working on controlling my anger, because people won't take me serious if I'm angry/yelling.
The brother shows incredible self control by not pummelling that guy to death then and there when he confesses to killing his sister, together with the supposed slander about her behaviour and the excuses - I can't imagine how hard that must have been to listen to. the brother didn't do anything violent because he was also guilty about the wrong path her sister took (relationship with a 40yo as a teenager, end up as a heroin addict,....). it was guilt for not having done anything as an older brother

I don't think I would be able to control myself, but at the same time I can't say for sure because the sheer shock of something so terribly heartbreaking might just cause complete shut down as well. One of those, never know till you're in that situation type of things, but God knows you hope you never have to find out. My heart goes out to him.

Sure, being detached from emotions and being antisocial (it's actually asocial, because antisocial is a personality disorder while asocial is more like isolation by choice, probably.) can drive people to commit crimes and do immoral acts or engage in socially unacceptable behaviour, but I just don't think that there's anything wrong with being detached from emotions and asocial because many individuals do not commit crimes or hurt people in horrible ways.

But she went straight to "yeah he was discharged from the military because he hallucinates. Oh, and he had a crazy porn addiction in highschool and tried to kidnap a girl once". Her brother is the real mvp here. He had such awareness to back off when he started to defend his sister. I always thought the same thing until it happened to me, my sister was killed by a drunk driver and as much as the desire may be to do something you have to realize what that would mean for your parents - you don't want them to lose both children y'know? But in my case the death was accidental and the drunk driver expressed guilt over it... idk what I would really do in her brother's situation

Chris sounds like a textbook example of a 'Nice Guy'. I get what you’re saying, I really do. But, the reason they give deals in situations like this, is that a confession and pleading guilty, takes away the need for a trial, and therefore the family of the victim doesn’t have to go through a trial, or any shit talk from a defence lawyer. It also, in many cases, gives the family of the victim the full story, and, hopefully, leads to the body. On the flip side, a guilty verdict at the end of a trial, usually ends with a much longer sentence, because the perpetrator has fought against everything and generally a defence lawyer will shit talk the victim, will help from their client, and come out with all sorts of things to victim-blame and pass-the-buck. So a deal is swifter and easier than a trial, and takes away the chance of a mistrial or a not guilty verdict. Hope that makes sense xxx

I agree, it’s sad asf. I was introduced to drugs by myself cause my parents were pretty clueless on pills. They just knew opiates=bad. Sooo, they had saved all of them over years in an open space in the kitchen before they found out I was addicted to them. I had gone thru somethin traumatic & then my mom got cancer, so I was taking anything to cope. I had some older ppl reach out to me when I was 17, 18 and wanting more. I found out later that one of the older ladies was involved in pimping girls out. She admitted A LOT to me over the phone whilst she was very messed up. She basically told me that I was lucky I had an overdose and got sober before I got close to her cause she had some “plans” for me cause she wasn’t a “good person” back then. Crazy. It made sense to me then why she had been messaging me right before I OD’d bout getting a Brazilian wax from her cousin and was promising me things. It was so random….but I was naive as hell.
Its always a bad sign when you see someone barely out of childhood start a relationship with someone late into adulthood, especially one with a criminal or drug record. Bad signs all over but what can be done now.
This case is one of the saddest I've heard of. Lea was trying so hard to get her life back together but she was struggling and she really needed a friend and someone took advantage of her instead. It's just incredibly sad, her relationship with her brother was so beautiful and I can't believe he has to live the rest of his life without his sister, he loved her so so much. I hope Lea is at peace now and that the people that love her get to be with her again someday 🙏

Look at the Gabbie Petito case - after the son murdered Gabbie the parents obstructed justice in every way possible, even writing at the top of the letter from the mother to Brian to ‘destroy after reading’. The numerous cases involving incels murdering innocent people because the guy can’t find a girlfriend or talk to girls - upon investigation we find that the parents ignored many warnings from the school and counselors that their child had dangerous ideas and delusional thinking. They knew the kid /young man had weapons, knew he had emotional problems and actively covered them up to what end? Embarrassment that they have a child with mental health problems? Afraid they’d be blamed for said issues? Like you said, family love and decisions are damning to say the least!

My legs are tired from walking around, and I have to walk home later. I'M THE ONE who deserves to sit. I'm paying taxes that go to the old guy's retirement, the kid's schooling, and I'm probably paying for the pregnant woman's healthcare and the baby's WIC benefits when it eventually pops out in a couple months. Something that always makes me really frustrated about these interrogations is when they start to disparage the victim’s character, as if to blame their own actions on the victim. Like they think the police will believe they deserved it in some way. Him trying to make her seem violent or a lowly addict when she was just someone who was lonely and needed help was just so disgusting.
@@adventuregames424 i understand, but this detail is quite interesting for me, given time and effort other murderers put into hiding bodies really far away from the crime scene (dismemberment, bleaching, throwing deep in the woods/river/etc and more), but the bodies are discovered later. Some are found right away, some are found when they are decomposing or bones. But he just casually threw her like a garbage near his own goddamn home, and she vanished the next day forever...
I'm rarely so taken aback by the bravery people can summon to get justice in cases like this. Maxx is the kind of sibling anyone would be lucky to have. That group of friends was very clever: their recording is crystal clear, their approach was tactful, and the level of pressure they apply is balanced. You can feel the tension in that meeting. The self control that they had was superhuman, particularly Maxx, to not lunge at him and strangle him to death when he not only described how he murdered Lea but was clearly trying to paint her as the aggressor. I don't know if I could have had so much self restraint if I was in their shoes.
His mom casually mentioning the red flags that she had seen for years, like the fact that he actually attempted something years earlier and that she was well aware what his intentions were at that time. That's something that will stay with me. I've dated a few narcissists with mothers like this. It's astonishing the level of denial they have to evade responsibility for creating a monster like this. Or even acknowledge that their baby might someday really hurt someone. Not hard to see where the monsters got the mental gymnastics from after all.
My grandmother would defend my uncle's lies and accusations in spite of a sickening letter he wrote threatening her and scolded me for providing his parole officer with a copy of the threatening letter.
I'm curious what a mother can actually do about this. If they are an adult and some people are born this way. Not created. I mean what is she supposed to do ? Kill him and go to prison for her life? Not knowing if the child will actually do something bad.
@oicuff1635 The matter of the fact is, if she noticed something these obvious crimson flags. She should have done something about it. Obviously not kill him- Get him help. Get him therapy. People having morbid thoughts like these, especially with proven intent and/or desire to act of them should not be ignored. She as his guardian while he was in high school should have gotten checked out and treated so he wouldn't be a harm to society. Regardless if he was born or became this way. Actually in the scenario that he was created this way, it shows more about his home life as a child and or his mother raising him.

A choice like this for a parent isn't a simple one not in the slightest and for 2 reasons, 1) the embarrassment you as a parent would feel for seeking the help and just knowing there is something very wrong with your child, worrying about this information being spread without you knowing about it and 2) some parents would think that there is nothing wrong with their kid and allow them to continue with these morbid curiosities/thoughts completely unaware that more often than not their kid will eventually act out on those morbid curiosities/thoughts in the future, therefore basically living in denial about it all or not taking it as serious as they should of done but then it's too late to go back. So strange. A guy I knew growing up ended up killing a girl. I hadn't lived there in over a decade, but was not surprised to find out he was in prison for that. I was surprised to find some other people (all female) we all grew up with talking about he must be innocent. I get the feeling they just cannot allow themselves to believe this guy (who was very popular) would do this. I, being a dude, and knowing his psycho ways when we were teens, was not shocked at all that he ended up working his way to violence against a woman. Some people just do not want to look at the world as it is.
The fact that her body has never been found haunts and guts me, plus her poor brave brother interviewing him just broke me cuz you could hear the pain in his heart when he interrupted then before he hit him, just so sad. I hope she’s resting peacefully and that she gets found ❤
Yeah once any body is thrown in the dumpster they most likely will never be found because the landfills are so large thats why alot of killers choose that method. Its really upsetting i feel so bad for her family

Before the trial, I guess when they found out Lea was an addict, they assumed the worst, judged her too harshly, and believed that she started the attack. So yes it is unfortunate we dehumanize and judge but this girl needed help more than just finding her a place to stay and no one thought to get her this. If her family is this mad at someone else they should also feel the guilt of what they could of done when she did get clean and went back to the drug. She was seeking help and I have a feeling family judge more harshly and this I know first hand. The thing was I was never even on hard drugs or drink like she was.
He mentioned a dumpster. Its the only thing he said that I believe. POS was too lazy to do any more than bag her up in trash bags and heave her into the apartment complex's dumpster.
A rumor has gone around that he told someone in jail that he put her “here, there, and about.” But that is JUST A RUMOR! However, they brought cadaver dogs in to the dump site, and all they found was a pillowcase with her wallet and stuff in it, so the evidence leans toward that being at least partially true. However, their family is still accepting tips as to where the body may be. I was a friend of hers and if I lived anywhere NEAR Colorado, I’d be looking out and hunting for her too.

The most insane part of this whole story is the ungodly strength Maxx and Jesse had to not jump over that table and beat Chris to death, because I would've. A girl threatened me with a knife once in her apartment. I managed to get the knife off of her & restrained her. Never once crossed my mind to use it on her. That's why I always think these men are lying when they act like they didn't have a choice.
I completely agree I had moments l Iike that with my ex wife. Once the weapon is removed from the situation there absolutely no reason to use it on them unless your life is actually in grave danger. If the other person had no weapon anymore the threat is gone. Even if they are throwing punches its still no reason to use the weapon.
Maxx is a very impressive young man. I can only imagine how difficult it was to see his sister go down such a dark path and then to sit there face to face during her murderer's confession and maintain his composure. He's very perceptive and intelligent. Would make a good investigator himself.
You know, nothing was actually presented to show she actually was on a dark path. No proof she was on drugs, none of it. Only what was told by her killer. And all Max did was whatever he thought would get the guy to confess. I'm willing to bet if the cops didn't do anything and he stayed on the streets, Max would have killed him.
As a brother myself, I can only give respect where respect is due. Lea meant alot to me, When we were in court the governer took all of us in a room and told us they offered him a plea bargain. Said they couldn’t prove that the sex wasn’t consensual and told Chris Waide that if he told us where he put Lea, that he would get second degree murder, Instead of first. He agreed and then referred to his original story. The epitome of a failure within our justice system. She has never been found but will forever be in mine, and so many other people hearts forever. We all love and miss you Lea and will never stop searching. Truly heartbreaking.
I don't understand that. I would think that if Lea is found, then plea deal is fine, if Lea is not found, then 1. degree murder. It's like a contract: both sides have to fulfill their duties.

Ive practiced Cartomancy since I was young, and the idea of doing a "Tarot Reading" while already knowing you've murdered this young woman and pretending that she'll "come back a changed woman" and giving false hope makes me physically feel sick.
Plus his readings and interpretations were entry level for tarot cards. I haven't read in over a decade and still remember how shocked I was at what the Devil card represented. The Tower is far more suggestive of an overtly negative outcome than the Devil, which is an astute warning, after a sort. That's just my very old recollection and I haven't touched a deck in nearly 15 years but that always stuck with me. I found tarot cards intimidatingly complex but appealing.

I do not believe for a second that Lea willingly had sex with this guy. The patience and restraint Maxx showed toward the murderer of his own sister is frankly astounding. I'm really close with my sister and I'm pretty confident that if I were in the same situation, I doubt I'd have the forethought and self control necessary not to beat the ever loving shit out of the perpetrator. There should be absolutely no reason for anyone to abuse heavy narcotics, like heroin. Grief counseling exists for a reason (it helped me with the second death of my family), and it's a whole lot cheaper and less destructive than resorting to drugs and alcohol.

I noticed a small detail about this that brought me at least some joy was seeing the cast on Maxx's hand. It's pretty clear that he delivered one hell of a punch into Chris's disgusting face. You were able to do what any good brother in the same situation probably wishes they could do, and I just know that Lea was cheering you on from beyond for bringing her justice. We lived not far from them and knew them well. My oldest son thought Lea hung the moon. And I need to say having four boys I hoped they would be as amazing as Maxx, just a wonderful young man, Lea was fantastic as well. This mamma did so good raising them, even when mistakes or bad choices were made they were loving good kids.

I use to tell her how much I wanted her as a daughter in law, c'mon Lea just give him a chance, my oldest son was too good of a friend for her to ever picture kissing him. This might sting a little, but that extremely close relationship between Maxx and Lea, is probably what got her unalived. By the sound of it, Lea had absolutely no concept of being an individual with her own independent ideas and path. So when she spent some time with somebody other than Maxx, her entire world crumbled, and she fell into all that trouble that was listed in the video. I've seen siblings personally who had such a close relationship, that it was stomach turning. They couldn't do anything without each other. It was disturbing, it was wrong, and it was unhealthy. People should learn to be independent and not crumble under the slightest pressure if they have to face the world alone. You're wishing something on yourself that would've likely ruined your life, and you would've never realized what was the cause. Be thankful you never had an excessively close relationship with your siblings and hopefully you can function as an individual.
As an addict who has been in the recovery circle for years and years, he was using her addiction as a huge way of controlling her. I cam actually see myself in poor lea when I was young and lost. When you're high, you can have all the motivation in the world. But with those withdrawals wouldve been kicking in, and possibly hoping he would buy her some drugs, she probably did get stressed. And why would she not?!? Completely abused the position and power he was able to have over her.
Her brother said several times in the video he was giving her money. They were communicating about this, so I think this is another one of his little stories, one that is believable sadly.

He was going to give her money but in his mind I’m sure it was to make certain she wouldn’t be on the streets and not buying ‘tainted’ drugs. When dealing with a loved one with addiction, there is NEVER a right answer because you can’t control what they are going to do. So your choice is either to enable (which can lead to overdose/death) or to cut them off (which can also lead to tragic results). It wasn’t up to him to save her from her addiction. That doesn’t mean he didn’t love her.

I was a heavy opioid addict with heroine and fentanyl. When I was using for years I was homeless and crashing at peoples houses- even people I didn’t know very well. Now that I’m sober I feel lucky that I didn’t overdose and die but now after watching this I’m glad nobody ever kidnapped me or killed me. I feel so bad for this girl…she seemed so happy to get her life back on track. rip❤
I can totally relate to this! I spent the better part of a decade addicted to morphine and basically any kind of pain pills, then eventually heroin ... Thinking back to some of the people I put myself in contact with it was around, I just thank God that nothing like this happened to me. It's such a sad story, she was so young and so pretty.
Congratulations to you both for getting clean! It takes a immense amount of strength to not only get clean but to get & stay sober is a testament to your strength! I'm truly sorry this man lost his sister to murder, I lost my mom to it. Hearing his honest anger is heartening though.. So many people try to be super careful about showing emotions when dealing with survivors.. sometimes real expressions of emotions like in this case honest anger makes us feel seen.. I wish he could have his sister back, and I wish I could have my mom, but since that isn't possible.. it's nice to know we can unapologetically feel this way because so often we end up having to bottle up our emotions.. But, what I have said to myself that has helped me with my grief is: *When I miss my loved ones and it hurts, the more it hurts, the more they mattered. The pain is a representation of the bond we shared.* We will always feel the pain, it doesn't get better, we get somewhat numb to it to be able to survive But, the pain is also a way of them visiting. The pain reminds us, so the pain can be somewhat beautiful, *at least if we are able to think of the pain in this way.* its up to each of their own to find their way to healing. But I now see the pain as their way of coming back for a visit. Doesn't have to mean it's a spirit/soul visiting, it can also represent them just living on in your mind. The meaning of it is up to the individual. I just try to see it as them visiting me, living on through me and our memories. So I can't physically see them But they are always a part of me and my journey And the pain just shows me how much they *mattered* and how *lucky I was* to be able to have such a beautiful relationship to them. *Not everyone gets to experience such strong, deep and loving relationships, so even if I miss them so much and wish they were here, I do not regret having them in my life even though it hurts so much at times. I would not trade the pain away if it meant never knowing them I hope you have found peace And if you haven't, I hope you do, you deserve it and are worthy of it. ❤
I feel so bad for that brother, he clearly cared so much about his sister and put himself in such a rough place to get justice for her. The part where he starts defending her and realizes he needs the full confession and goes "sorry I'm just throwing a tantrum, keep going" the level of restraint and mental fortitude to be able to catch yourself in that moment is intense.

I went to school with Chris Waide. Everyone thought he was creepy then, and when Maxx's sister went missing, the second we found out Chris was one of the last to see her, we all immediately knew who was responsible. Thanks for giving this story exposure EWU. Love Maxx and his family and still think about this every day.

That whole story felt so weird and inhuman, it was like he was telling them what happened in a novel or a TV show or something. I tried to imagine what I would say to a guy if I accidentally killed his sister in self-defense, and there's no way I don't just immediately start with "she's dead, I'm so sorry man, it was a terrible accident", instead of going on and on about how exactly we were standing with the knife or whatever.

They did a really good job. The ex starts the Convo about the murder which is probably too much for the brother (I feel like he almost lashed out then remembered they're there for a confession). The brother also stopped the friend from asking "why he didn't call the cops" which isn't really an important question but could potentially shut Chris from talking. He calming stop her and ask Chris about what happened next to continue the confession.

I'm only 37, working on my patience every day. Just yesterday someone tested my patience. I didn't get angry or raise my voice, like I normally would have done. For me, it's a conscience effort, everyday, to not be infuriated by the lack or empathy and the DISRESPECT I see around me, daily. But I'm working on controlling my anger, because people won't take me serious if I'm angry/yelling.

I get what you’re saying, I really do. But, the reason they give deals in situations like this, is that a confession and pleading guilty, takes away the need for a trial, and therefore the family of the victim doesn’t have to go through a trial, or any shit talk from a defence lawyer. It also, in many cases, gives the family of the victim the full story, and, hopefully, leads to the body.
On the flip side, a guilty verdict at the end of a trial, usually ends with a much longer sentence, because the perpetrator has fought against everything and generally a defence lawyer will shit talk the victim, will help from their client, and come out with all sorts of things to victim-blame and pass-the-buck.
So a deal is swifter and easier than a trial, and takes away the chance of a mistrial or a not guilty verdict.

I was introduced to drugs by myself cause my parents were pretty clueless on pills. They just knew opiates=bad. Sooo, they had saved all of them over years in an open space in the kitchen before they found out I was addicted to them. I had gone thru somethin traumatic & then my mom got cancer, so I was taking anything to cope. I had some older ppl reach out to me when I was 17, 18 and wanting more. I found out later that one of the older ladies was involved in pimping girls out. She admitted A LOT to me over the phone whilst she was very messed up. She basically told me that I was lucky I had an overdose and got sober before I got close to her cause she had some “plans” for me cause she wasn’t a “good person” back then. Crazy.
It made sense to me then why she had been messaging me right before I OD’d bout getting a Brazilian wax from her cousin and was promising me things. It was so random….but I was naive as hell.
Its always a bad sign when you see someone barely out of childhood start a relationship with someone late into adulthood, especially one with a criminal or drug record. Bad signs all over but what can be done now.

This case is one of the saddest I've heard of. Lea was trying so hard to get her life back together but she was struggling and she really needed a friend and someone took advantage of her instead. It's just incredibly sad, her relationship with her brother was so beautiful and I can't believe he has to live the rest of his life without his sister, he loved her so so much. I hope Lea is at peace now and that the people that love her get to be with her again someday 🙏

I'm rarely so taken aback by the bravery people can summon to get justice in cases like this. Maxx is the kind of sibling anyone would be lucky to have. That group of friends was very clever: their recording is crystal clear, their approach was tactful, and the level of pressure they apply is balanced. You can feel the tension in that meeting. I'm beyond impressed.

The self control that they had was superhuman, particularly Maxx, to not lunge at him and strangle him to death when he not only described how he murdered Lea but was clearly trying to paint her as the aggressor. I don't know if I could have had so much self restraint if I was in their shoes.
His mom casually mentioning the red flags that she had seen for years, like the fact that he actually attempted something years earlier and that she was well aware what his intentions were at that time. That's something that will stay with me. I've dated a few narcissists with mothers like this. It's astonishing the level of denial they have to evade responsibility for creating a monster like this. Or even acknowledge that their baby might someday really hurt someone. Not hard to see where the monsters got the mental gymnastics from after all.
My grandmother would defend my uncle's lies and accusations in spite of a sickening letter he wrote threatening her and scolded me for providing his parole officer with a copy of the threatening letter.
I'm curious what a mother can actually do about this. If they are an adult and some people are born this way. Not created. I mean what is she supposed to do ? Kill him and go to prison for her life? Not knowing if the child will actually do something bad.
@oicuff1635 The matter of the fact is, if she noticed something these obvious crimson flags. She should have done something about it. Obviously not kill him- Get him help. Get him therapy. People having morbid thoughts like these, especially with proven intent and/or desire to act of them should not be ignored. She as his guardian while he was in high school should have gotten checked out and treated so he wouldn't be a harm to society. Regardless if he was born or became this way. Actually in the scenario that he was created this way, it shows more about his home life as a child and or his mother raising him.
Parents aren't always the reason their kids turn out bad. But if you ignore or condone after the obvious signs are there, then you're delusional.

A choice like this for a parent isn't a simple one not in the slightest and for 2 reasons, 1) the embarrassment you as a parent would feel for seeking the help and just knowing there is something very wrong with your child, worrying about this information being spread without you knowing about it and 2) some parents would think that there is nothing wrong with their kid and allow them to continue with these morbid curiosities/thoughts completely unaware that more often than not their kid will eventually act out on those morbid curiosities/thoughts in the future, therefore basically living in denial about it all or not taking it as serious as they should of done but then it's too late to go back.

So strange. A guy I knew growing up ended up killing a girl. I hadn't lived there in over a decade, but was not surprised to find out he was in prison for that. I was surprised to find some other people (all female) we all grew up with talking about he must be innocent. I get the feeling they just cannot allow themselves to believe this guy (who was very popular) would do this. I, being a dude, and knowing his psycho ways when we were teens, was not shocked at all that he ended up working his way to violence against a woman. Some people just do not want to look at the world as it is.
The fact that her body has never been found haunts and guts me, plus her poor brave brother interviewing him just broke me cuz you could hear the pain in his heart when he interrupted then before he hit him, just so sad. I hope she’s resting peacefully and that she gets found ❤

Before the trial, I guess when they found out Lea was an addict, they assumed the worst, judged her too harshly, and believed that she started the attack. A rumor has gone around that he told someone in jail that he put her “here, there, and about.” But that is JUST A RUMOR! However, they brought cadaver dogs in to the dump site, and all they found was a pillowcase with her wallet and stuff in it, so the evidence leans toward that being at least partially true. However, their family is still accepting tips as to where the body may be. I was a friend of hers and if I lived anywhere NEAR Colorado, I’d be looking out and hunting for her too.

As a brother myself, I can only give respect where respect is due. He likely felt guilty for not having done more during his sister's descent into drugs and depression, and this was the best way he saw that could make up for it. Lea meant alot to me, When we were in court the governer took all of us in a room and told us they offered him a plea bargain. Said they couldn’t prove that the sex wasn’t consensual and told Chris Waide that if he told us where he put Lea, that he would get second degree murder, Instead of first. He agreed and then referred to his original story. The epitome of a failure within our justice system. She has never been found but will forever be in mine, and so many other people hearts forever. We all love and miss you Lea and will never stop searching. Truly heartbreaking.

The patience and restraint Maxx showed toward the murderer of his own sister is frankly astounding. I'm really close with my sister and I'm pretty confident that if I were in the same situation, I doubt I'd have the forethought and self control necessary not to beat the ever loving shit out of the perpetrator. The fact he was not only able to pretend to be his friend, but actually get a confession (even if it wasn't the total truth) out of him is testament to Maxxs' character. Incredibly impressive.

There should be absolutely no reason for anyone to abuse heavy narcotics, like heroin. Grief counseling exists for a reason (it helped me with the second death of my family), and it's a whole lot cheaper and less destructive than resorting to drugs and alcohol.

Usually killers will eventually just end up telling them where the body is but the way he’s denying it and sounds scared as if he’s embarrassed to admit he probably did what I said . I can only think of my own sister. The fact that brother could hold himself back is unbelievably controlled. But also, my heart shatters for him. The bond between a brother and sister is so insanely deep, strong, and protective. This will haunt him forever.

I noticed a small detail about this that brought me at least some joy was seeing the cast on Maxx's hand. It's pretty clear that he delivered one hell of a punch into Chris's disgusting face. GOOD, wear that shit like a badge of honor, Maxx. You were able to do what any good brother in the same situation probably wishes they could do, and I just know that Lea was cheering you on from beyond for bringing her justice. A part of me even hopes it left some type of scar, just because it would be a permanent reminder of your heroism.
I must commend her brother for staying calm while listening to this twisted psychopath telling this story how he killed his sister. He was the bigger man than most of us in doing all he could to get justice for his sister.
We lived not far from them and knew them well. My oldest son thought Lea hung the moon. And I need to say having four boys I hoped they would be as amazing as Maxx, just a wonderful young man, Lea was fantastic as well. This mamma did so good raising them, even when mistakes or bad choices were made they were loving good kids.

I use to tell her how much I wanted her as a daughter in law, c'mon Lea just give him a chance, my oldest son was too good of a friend for her to ever picture kissing him. She was amazing and thank you for understanding people mess up, but it doesn't mean we love them less. Maxx showed such restraint, but he was always more mature than his years.

This might sting a little, but that extremely close relationship between Maxx and Lea, is probably what got her unalived. By the sound of it, Lea had absolutely no concept of being an individual with her own independent ideas and path. So when she spent some time with somebody other than Maxx, her entire world crumbled, and she fell into all that trouble that was listed in the video. I've seen siblings personally who had such a close relationship, that it was stomach turning. They couldn't do anything without each other. It was disturbing, it was wrong, and it was unhealthy. People should learn to be independent and not crumble under the slightest pressure if they have to face the world alone. You're wishing something on yourself that would've likely ruined your life, and you would've never realized what was the cause. Be thankful you never had an excessively close relationship with your siblings and hopefully you can function as an individual.
As an addict who has been in the recovery circle for years and years, he was using her addiction as a huge way of controlling her.
I cam actually see myself in poor lea when I was young and lost.
When you're high, you can have all the motivation in the world. But with those withdrawals wouldve been kicking in, and possibly hoping he would buy her some drugs, she probably did get stressed. And why would she not?!? Completely abused the position and power he was able to have over her.
Every night I would quit and every morning I would be on the hunt again.
Her brother said several times in the video he was giving her money. They were communicating about this, so I think this is another one of his little stories, one that is believable sadly.

He had been fantasizing about rape and murder, so it's possible that he tried to get her impaired and then just s**ually attacked her, not even giving her a chance to turn him down. @@beekeeper8474 Okay I get that argument… he was probably an enabler but it’s something that happens so very often. She was only 19 and he wasn’t much older. He was going to give her money but in his mind I’m sure it was to make certain she wouldn’t be on the streets and not buying ‘tainted’ drugs. When dealing with a loved one with addiction, there is NEVER a right answer because you can’t control what they are going to do. So your choice is either to enable (which can lead to overdose/death) or to cut them off (which can also lead to tragic results). It wasn’t up to him to save her from her addiction. That doesn’t mean he didn’t love her.
Kudos to Maxx and his friends for what they did. What an amazing young man. My condolences to him and his family. What a tragedy.

I was a heavy opioid addict with heroine and fentanyl. When I was using for years I was homeless and crashing at peoples houses- even people I didn’t know very well. Now that I’m sober I feel lucky that I didn’t overdose and die but now after watching this I’m glad nobody ever kidnapped me or killed me. I feel so bad for this girl…she seemed so happy to get her life back on track. rip❤
I can totally relate to this! I spent the better part of a decade addicted to morphine and basically any kind of pain pills, then eventually heroin ... Thinking back to some of the people I put myself in contact with it was around, I just thank God that nothing like this happened to me. It's such a sad story, she was so young and so pretty.
Congratulations to you both for getting clean! It takes a immense amount of strength to not only get clean but to get & stay sober is a testament to your strength! Staying sober is probably one of the hardest yet most rewarding things that you’ll ever have to do. Leah will never have the chance to get clean and see how amazing life can be. I'm truly sorry this man lost his sister to murder, I lost my mom to it. Hearing his honest anger is heartening though..
So many people try to be super careful about showing emotions when dealing with survivors.. sometimes real expressions of emotions like in this case honest anger makes us feel seen..
I wish he could have his sister back, and I wish I could have my mom, but since that isn't possible.. it's nice to know we can unapologetically feel this way because so often we end up having to bottle up our emotions..
Most people have just never encountered this kind of situation first hand, and I'm glad for them.. but it also makes us expressing ourselves that much harder.

I sincerely wish you peace and I wish you healing. I cannot imagine your pain. But, what I have said to myself that has helped me with my grief is:
*When I miss my loved ones and it hurts, the more it hurts, the more they mattered. The pain is a representation of the bond we shared.* We will always feel the pain, it doesn't get better, we get somewhat numb to it to be able to survive
But, the pain is also a way of them visiting. The pain reminds us, so the pain can be somewhat beautiful, *at least if we are able to think of the pain in this way.* its up to each of their own to find their way to healing. But I now see the pain as their way of coming back for a visit. Doesn't have to mean it's a spirit/soul visiting, it can also represent them just living on in your mind. The meaning of it is up to the individual.
I just try to see it as them visiting me, living on through me and our memories. So I can't physically see them
But they are always a part of me and my journey
And the pain just shows me how much they *mattered* and how *lucky I was* to be able to have such a beautiful relationship to them. *Not everyone gets to experience such strong, deep and loving relationships, so even if I miss them so much and wish they were here, I do not regret having them in my life even though it hurts so much at times. I would not trade the pain away if it meant never knowing them
