Seems to me Tonina is doing her damndest to make everyone think she's the one responsible. Note how she was taken aback that they found evidence of a struggle on her mom. She freezes for a moment, then immediately implicates herself.
Is it maybe just extreme denial that her mother was responsible for this? Or did she know her mom did this all along and is trying, quite poorly, to implicate herself instead. That might explain why she let the boy float in the tub while she called 911. She might already have been aware that not only was he dead, but he'd been that way since long before she even woke up that day.
That would also explain why police didn't give her the time of day, regardless of how obviously suspicious her stories are.
But well, who knows what the truth of it is. In any case, it's clear Tonina's got her own issues. Her sudden mood swings certainly do line up if she's being treated for bipolar. Her constant changing of the story also lines up with that, especially if she's off her meds like Vicki claims.
It's a bit baffling that the sisters trusted these two women with a laundry list of mental health problems each with their children unsupervised. The truth is either one could have done it. The physical evidence points to Terry, so that's who they nailed to the wall.

The nonchalant way Tonina was telling the 911 operator her "nephew just drowned in the bathtub, can you send somebody over?" like she's just calling for a cab. It was disturbing than immediately became sickening when she realized the Operator had actual concern for poor DeAngelo, and she tried to act like she did, too. Horrifying

I legit had the exact same thought. I think either she did it and her mum is taking the fall for her or Tonina did it on a way to make her mum think she actually did it soo like gaslighting her. So like Tonina did something to that poor boy but was able to make it seem like it was her mum who did it and she was just asleep conveniently and so it can’t have ANYTHING to do with her. That’s why the mum keeps saying she doesn’t know. She is in her own head and is soo confused but because she has been gaslit by Tonina she thinks it’s her fault but just don’t know what happened. I hope that makes sense.

For me, when she suddenly started babbling about "ordering a pizza" while on the phone with 911? Whatever psychosis she has going on, she suddenly mixed up actual observable events (ie, "I got on the phone with 911...") with what was *going through her head* when on the phone with 911, but only halfway. To me, in that moment she's revealing a quick discussion she had with whoever (not her mom imho, but someone no one but her can see/hear :| ) told her "it sounds like you're ordering a pizza... turn shit up a bit maybe?", her reply being "I'm not ordering a pizza! AGREE! Mom might have been mentally unwell too, but I think part of that could be caused by dealing with her daughter. Having a crazy person in the house-- narcissistic, violent, bipolar, selfish-- takes its toll. Maybe she was "pacing" so much because she was worried about her daughter. Tonina's psychosis is obvious, but she is able to do a lot of self-preservation. Why she chose to kill that child? Maybe to hurt her sisters that she clearly had anger towards. Just. Wow.

As for Tonina, I don’t think her rambling was an attempt to avoid answering questions. She has the a lot signs of Schizophrenia, her rambling was more like word soup even on the phone call. She also shows signs of paranoia, thinking that this was all just a big plot to hurt her and someone was out to get her. I’ll tell you what’s even scarier than that the fact that she’s giving an interview right now to this RUclips channel and is just as crazy as she was before if not worse and she has children of her own someone needs to step in and get those kids out of that household immediately I can’t even imagine the damage she’s so flipping psychotic. I can’t even count how many crazy things that she said it just in the new interview about how she was a supermodel at 19 I don’t know I’m at a loss for this craziest case I’ve ever heard it takes a lot to shock me, but the entire family is to blame for all of this you have to know that your mom is losing it that’s why she could only take care of one kid at a time. There’s an obvious reason why both kids didn’t go over there at the same time she could handle it a normal grandma could handle both the kids for one night or two nights and then you know your sister is completely psychotic and if you can’t tell that your mother is losing it and you’re leaving your children with her there’s definitely liability right there for everybody in the family. Nobody gets off in this family at all there’s blame to be pushed around everywhere.

But ummm uhhhh you can totally hear how this aunt can’t keep a story straight, dodges the authorities for court, and makes everything about her. @@dawnmcconnell5038 Her mother likely knows. She's spent her entire life enabling her daughter's incredibly negative and maladaptive behavior (now pathological), and never held her accountable. It's evident within the familial dynamics, specifically when the mother literally calls her a "baby" and acknowledges that she's 25 within the same sentence, then comfortably refers to her as "the little one" when asking the detective if she can call her from their facility. Tonnina's constant deflection when asked a direct question is a learned behavior, developed after consistent reinforcement which has consistently worked for her, likely since childhood, therefore she continues to do it prolifically.
