    Flew these for years for a bank/check company. We would get in first and then it would be packed with duffle bags loaded with bank work. Felt very nervous about it w/ no way out but eventually there was a pilot door "gull wing" mod installed. Use to pull into military bases and the crews would gather around wondering what the heck it was. As wide as it was long. The plane did only one thing well. It was f a st...........

    I love the MU-2. I remember seeing it at my local airport many years ago, when I was a kid.. It seemed that it's prop blades were almost too big for the size of plane they were attached to. I waited for it to depart, and was stunned to hear how weird it sounds. It sounds like a giant hoover with something stuck in the hose.
    Sadly the Asobo incarnation doesn't really sound like that. It's rather shy i the sounds department actually. And it taxi's like it weighs nothing. But it flies nicely, so I actually do enjoy it!

    10:04 You have to apply fuel manually, next checklist item Oil PSI >40 Left Fuel Switch On. Not a bug, starts just fine. A quirky old turboprop, just the way i like it.

    The landing? We called it "positive contact" in the Marines. I picked this up as soon as it was released. There were no reviews out yet (I usually wait for you to review an aircraft before buying) but I took it for a tour of the sound anyway. I didn't know the start procedure either until I watched Jonathan Beckett's review. This was my very first turboprop experience and I had to fly it by the seat of my pants ... crazy! I think I'm going to love this airplane, it's from my era (I'm old) and it's fast! It would probably be a good idea to read the manual at some point 🙂

    Did you have any issues with compatibility while using your Alpha Yoke and Bravo Throttle Quadrant? I have to use the switches in the Sim panel display to make the transponder and Garmin work properly (yes, I checked the inverter and radio switches). On the Bravo, the throttle, prop, flap, and landing gear levers work OK, but when you use the switches, the avionics go crazy (including the parking brake). The autopilot works (sort of) but I end up going back and forth between the one that comes with the Sim and my Bravo. Did you have to do any configuring? Care to share? I love flying this bird, especially at altitude (it is faster the higher you go), but it is annoying having to go back and forth. I may have to invest in a head tracker or something. I'm hoping that there is a workaround out there.

    If you would have continued to follow the checklist to the next two items when you were trying to start the engines you would have started them you failed to see the item that said oil pressure at 40 PSI and then the next item was the switches just to the left of the center of the bottom of the panel that you had to switch and then the engine would start so remember a checklist is not just what you've done but it is the entire checklist even the things you haven't done yet when you have completed the checklist you have completed the checklist if you stop halfway through you have not completed the checklist end thus not done everything that needed to be done

    • @AvAngel
      @AvAngel  11 месяцев назад

      So for clarity, It's certainly my fault, but it's more an expectation thing... I was expecting the engines to spool before I introduced fuel.. to avoid a hot start. When nothing spooled I was confused. Most turboprops start differently. I was 'expecting' something to tell me this had occured not just oil pressure changing. Does this make sense?

    The violent pitch to the sky followed by the violent pitch to the ground has to be defect in the flight model. If the model is correct, then this would be a very dangerous aircraft to fly in the real world. Further research has revealed that this aircraft was dangerous and FFA crash investigations killed its sales leading to a cease in production. As others have stated, the flight model needs adjusting. I doubt I will be flying this one much until that happens.

    Hello! Not to be a party crasher, you were not following the Checklist Start procedure correctly. If you noticed it did not say Both Gearing switches to GROUND it said only the LEFT GEARING SWITCH to Ground, ENGINE 1 Fuel Enrichment Press, ENGINE 1 Crank switch to CRANK, amd finally ENGINE 1 Start switch to START! you were doing Both at a time and therefore NOT following the correct procedure! Under real circumstances you cannot do a dual start. That's just my observance.

    Thank you for another great review. I was really excited to get this plane, it used to be a favourite back in my X-Plane days. And it looks beautiful, however I was disappointed with some of the "quirks" that make it difficult to fly, especially take off, and the autopilot. So I was interested to hear what you had to say about it.
    The rear wheels are behind the CG which does make for a little spicy takeoff, but I think it's overexaggerated on this model, also the taxi speed, yikes! And the sounds definitely need work. Apparently it is impossible to stall and spin, I haven't tried this myself, but other users are saying this. The modern cockpit would be nice if it had an extra GPS, and a modern autopilot. I'd also like to see controls for the door and cabin light on the control panel, just for convenience! (details, I know ... )
    I've been following the MU-2 thread on the MSFS forums, and Ini are following the discussion and taking notes, so hopefully there'll be an update in the near future.
    I don't think the cheap price is a justification for accepting flight model inaccuracies or other faults. I'd rather pay a slightly higher price for something that is properly finished as I doubt another developer will be making a model of the same plane.
    I really want to love this plane, it has so much potential, but it's not quite there yet.

    This plane tends to taxi fast. It is common to use reverse periodically while taxing because ground idle is just so fast haha. Also there is no ailerons. Only spoilerons. Leads to more flaps and small wings. Keeps the speed up. Has the same wing area as a 182

    This airplaine is my greatest fear, a guy I knew died in this airplane, its a deadly one in the real life. Always the same thing, icing on the airframe, which caused the airspeed to decrease to the point where the aircraft stalled and entered a spin especially on landing. This airplane doesn't really bite in the air, his stall speed is very high at 100knts flaps down, and the fuel thanks are very heavy in the high wings, if you are stalling you will suffer a kind of water hammer and start in a deadly spin. I would tell you to land around 130knts full flaps and plan your wings to be as light as you can in fuel, and avoid icing at all cost. Also I think there is a reverse on the throttle so avoid to activate it when reducing the throttle when landing...
