This is looking more and more like a day-one purchase for me. I've loved the Dash 7 since the early days of FS9 and Milton Shupe's fantastic freeware offering.
Man, you guys amaze me sometimes. Flying so many types of aircraft. I do well to keep up with a300, a320, a330, and tbm 850. After that it takes me forever to try and work my way through another aircraft
I was thinking of purchasing this MSFS aircraft for a while. The video you made, easly made me make my mind. I liked the quality of the design in addition to the sounds. you have concentrated on the interior aspects as well the animations which together added extra values to the design, in fact, nothing had convince me on the quality of this built as much as your explanation. I really find it a great video. Thank you for the outstanding effort. By the way, the intro to the video is another beautiful presentation. Cool👍👍👍
I was really looking forward to this one and was very happy when tds support was announced. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to have the simulation fidelity, that I usually look for. The engines gauges being one giveaway and oversights like that armrest do hint at cutting corners.
@@BritishAvgeek The engine simulation (or repetition of it) can be excused as a price point thing, in this instance, I’m not hugely bothered anyway, because nobody said it was going to super high fidelity. I’ll probably still pick it up because the aircraft itself is just so cool.
My Uncle Tom was project manager for this amazing aircraft! I remember going for a ride in it when it was touring Canada upon it's release. Love to see this awesome bird in the sim!
Gotta say, for how long this plane has been in development, and considering SWS’s involvement, its a bit disappointing to see the state its in. The textures look like they lack a lot of definition and depth, and in my opinion, its way too clean for how much of a workhorse the Dash7 is in northern Canada. Having been up close to a dash 7 on several occasions (including Air Tindi’s), the sounds are also quite disappointing. Those 4 blade P&W PT6A’s really have a visceral sound, along with all the hydraulic actuators and over-engineered switches and controls. The aircraft is a good start, but hoping Pilots put in the polish to really make this thing come to life and actually feel like its been flying the backcountry for the better part of 50 years.
I expected flap actuators and an audible fuel pump but couldn't hear any of those sounds. They've improved it from the earlier soundscape from what I can tell though from research, but it seems to sit in a mid-point between default and (from what I can tell, because I don't have it) the Kodiak from SWS themselves. Whether they improve the textures to make them look dirtier and worn, probably not
I’m sure the awesome sim community will fix whatever sound and texture issues there are. Because that’s the meta these days: release a sub-par product and depend on your paying customers to improve it for you. 😐
This is why I'm Glad I've had a year break from Flight Sim, And now all these Aircraft That I've Wanted to have Decent Versions of are now coming out in MSFS, The Sound of the PT6's Sound awesome!! Cant wait to get it!
Back around 1982 I flew on a Canadian Forces Dash 7 from Lahr, Germany to Gatwick. It was a great experience and as it was only the second time I had ever flown at that point it's always been a special memory. Now after 28 years in the Cdn Air Force I've lost count. It seems the Cdn Forces didn't hang onto the Dash 7 for very many years. We had only two of them and they were mostly used shuttle high-ranking officials around Europe when we had bases there. Oh...and Yellowknife is about 700nm north-east of Bella Coola. Thirty mins via SR-71 perhaps. ;)
From what I saw, it could use a little refinement. Overall, I have to say I like it from what you showed us Luke. I think the engines should sound a little more "throaty" with the big props and I would have liked to have seen a little more wear and tear (especially in the the cockpit) so it shows it's age a bit more. But that is just me. But otherwise, it looks a nice addition to the sim
Lovely video and I've ordered the addon. The Dash 7 certainly wasn't overpowered. Think of it as a Dash 8-300 with four engines, each with half the power. The power to weight ratio was roughly equivalent. Also it was much more modern than a Douglas DC-6, had a proper autopilot, nothing like as basic as the gyropilot that had, so the comparison to that isn't apt. The DC-6 first flew in 1946, the Dash 7 in 1975.
A very specific product for a very specific market' is a good description of the real plane as well. de Havilland Canada thought that there was a market for airlines wanting quiet, STOL, pressurized airliners. Except it turned out there weren't many communities that required BOTH features, and the 4-engines were more costly to operate, so not many were sold. To their credit DHC realized their error and came out with the quiet, efficient, but not STOL Dash-8, which sold.... somewhat better.
Excellent Video ! Wow that’s such a cool good looker ! I had the pleasure of flying from Jersey to Heathrow on the flight deck of a Brymon Dash-7 ! For sure will be in my hanger in the near future ! As always great presentation ! Thanks 👍🙏🏻👨✈️✈️
I'm a sucker for 4 engine planes, be it jets or props and although it looks nice I wouldn't part with my money in its current state! As others have stated, it looks too pristine, an old bird like this needs a weathered look and I also think the interior is a bit lacking... Nice review though Luke👍
I'm by far a Dash 7 expert myself, but I'm a big fan of this aircraft. Both because it looks and performs amazing and Widerøe used to fly this aircraft here when I was a kid and I fell in love with that airplane back then. I've seen quite a few videos of it and from what I can remember, the usual procedure is to only use engine 2 and 3 for taxing. And from what I've seen they usually don't start engine 1 and 4 until they're on the runway and shut them off as soon as they've slowed down on the landing. Probably both in order to save fuel and also to make it easier to taxi to and from the runway
They went with only the TDS 750? That is beyond disappointing. You cannot update it without a Jeppesen subscription, unlike the vastly more popular PMS 750… poor choice to not include that. Damn pens my enthusiasm a little bit. Been quite keen on this aircraft otherwise, sounds should be deeper though, and no flap sounds or just very soft? Hopefully the price is reasonable.
My kind of aircraft along with the 727 and Fokker series, the thing is with this Dash 7 looks very nice but I couldn’t hear the engine sounds and other sounds very well. Looks like it still needs slightly better textures to make it look like a workhorse.
Hello thezre ! I haven't finished watching your video, but when it comes to taxi, you were at FLT Idle on the throttles, you have to be between Disc and Flt Idle during ground operations. Otherwise you will indeed feel like it really wants to taxi a lot.
This looks fantastic. Can't wait to use it. Gonna help with my APL Chapter 2. Flying out of Toronto CIty Center, this will be good fun to use out of there.
The video description needs amending, it's a collab with Sim WORKS Studios not Sim WINGS. SWS posted on facebook on 12 Feb 2022 they were joining with Pilots to build this, they would be creating the aircraft's 3D model, animations, systems and flight dynamics. I remember wondering at the time what did that leave Pilots to do apart from the sounds. Then 9 months later (6 Nov 2022) they said they were more or less done and it was about to be handed over to Pilots. Another year has gone by, Pilots have added the sound and whatever else needed adding, and here it is.
That's been sorted, not familiar with that developer at all myself and have no contact with them sadly. Sounds like they've had very little involvement since handing it over to PILOT'S though.
Not really a comment about the Dash 7 (although it looks like a ok cheap payware addon) but I've never seen a RUclips video in/around the Bella Coola area - very cool! I highly suggest to anyone interested, try a flight from Calgary or Kelowna to Bella Coola in the DC-6 (Buffalo Airways livery of course). Some of the best flying ive ever done in the sim!
Glad to see the Dash7 will finally be landing...haha...soon into our sims. Ive been waiting a very long time for this one. Looks great so far in the preview. Hopefully a few of the very minor shortcomings that some of folks here are mentioning will be addressed in the RTM version. This is a pre-release build that BAGeek is showing us remember. To comment on the engine sounds, i must say they now seem quite accurate in comparison to the preview video we saw a few months back (hello King Air 350 default sounds). Ive spent a lot of time around Dash 7s in the past 5 to 10 years and the real thing is quite close to what you hear. Obviously the sound coming from your computer speakers isnt going to exactly replicate the deep bass from four PT6-50's spinning large 11.3 ft propellers folks so cut them a little slack in that regard. What theyve done is quite good in my opinion. If you want more, buy a subwoofer and put it behind you. Also when you taxi this airplane, its 1 and 4 in Auto and 2 and 3 in feather unless you want to taxi at 30knots. Happy future 4 engined flying everyone!! I know im looking forward to it!! Great video as always BAGeek!!!
Thanks for your excellent comment - appreciate the tips and the reminder of it being preview. You make a great point about sounds through speakers - quite different to the real world at times and very dependant on your own sound card too 🙂 happy flying!
Thank you and well done, considering no pilot guide / check list you played a blinder!. Noticed no spoilers deployed on landing maybe not enabled? You never know maybe the annoying skippers arm rest may be animated via a patch or update in the future or at release, looks like an aircraft of interest for me. BR Charlie
Great to hear! The replay might have dropped the spoiler animations to be honest, replay mods cause all manner of issues but I know lots like to see landings from the outside too
I remember the B.A.S. Dash 7 wintering at Duxford a few years ago. A lovely aircraft, though unfortunately its replacement has already been ordered - a specially adapted Dash 8.
I'll be picking it up, but I hope some folks do some extra tuning on the sounds. Really thats like my only issue thus far is sound, albeit im talking switches & cockpit stuff - maybe a lil more engine bleedthrough into cockpit
I was lucky to jump seat “fly” the 7 in ‘93, Widerøe Bodø-Fornebu. Otherwise several ordinary passenger flights around Widerøe’s destinations in 🇳🇴. Yep, I’m old, one airport is gone forever, the other one being moved & rebuilt, and the airplane itself also went dodo replaced by the -8. And yes, I’m also awaiting a good -8 to make Avinor’s airspace “unsafe” in MSFS…😅
When Simworks Studios posted that they were building a Dash-7 I got very excited. Then they added they were just building the model (and possibly the systems, it was a very long time ago) and it would eventually be released by Pilots. Aaaah, right. Can you say 'clipper" ? Visually it's everything I'd expect from SWS, but I think I'll still wait and see some more reviews. I asked Pilots if they could give an idea of the price, they said under 20 Euros. I can't help contrasting this being the only pre-release video I've seen of this plane since Pilots announced with zero warning a couple of days ago it would drop this weekend with the absolute storm of publicity HPG have whipped up for the H160 which I think also releases this weekend.
Fair, other creators have also got access though I don't know who - and am also surprised that there are no other reviews (I like to see what others think in comparison to my views to see how it all balances out)
Thank you for your great content; I’ve looked forward to this but wanted to ask whether it has PMS50 GTN support, whether the weather radar works, and if an ADF is fitted? Again, thank-you.
Given the limited API, something approximating a WXR exists and until something better is released, it will have to do. Asobo have provided weather that is so uncannily realistic that to not have a WXR makes little sense, perhaps akin to a missing part of a jigsaw. My question stands because having a blanked out instrument is irritatingly useless given the MSFS environment in which we fly. At typical DHC-7 cruise altitudes the functionality and usefulness of tilt is questionable principally as one should absolutely avoid flying where WXR returns are depicted. Other developers of note have managed to slot in a WXR, and personally I’d welcome this in the DHC-7.
@@FlybyFabio See there is only 2d WXR in MSFS which is absolutely useless. There is literally no need to have it on any of the planes. It is pointless to see it on your screen if you have no idea where those storm clouds are? Above you? Below you? Same level? There is no difference between this "radar" and looking through the window. It is gimmick and nothing else.
@@rurintojasthank you for your input even if I have ignored it in its entirety. I have absolutely no problem if you’d prefer nothing over something, so my question of whether the DHC-7 have a WXR given limitations of API remains?
Hi! ADF is fitted yes, no PMS50 support on the build I have so assuming also no on release. Still unsure on the weather radar and think if I do get it, it'll be due to the TDS GTNXI being installed perhaps
Do you know if the British Antarctic Survey aircraft has extended range fuel tanks like the real one? They fly from Rothera to the Falklands during Antarctic Summer.
Really glad that this exists, the Dash 7 is my absolute favorite airplane of all time because of how unique and wild it is - 1200 feet runway with a 50 seat airliner? No problem! I'm hoping the devs are quick at updating it to MFS2024 because I don't own MFS2020 yet and I'm holding out for the next version at this point... On the plane wanting to really go on the ground, it may actually be prototypical. Often these planes would taxi with only two of the engines spinning!
Good point - something I didn't mention actually... They didn't supply checklists or a quick start guide so had to find my way through it over a few days to get to this point. Since found bits online showing 1 + 4 engines on for taxi
Assuming its priced appropriately this plane looks fantastic for more casual pilots like me. A unique experience without being too overwhelming. I'd pay between $30 - $40 I think but if they're trying to price it like a full study product ($60+) I'm gonna have to give it a pass.
@@jaywatson4196 Yeah its so sad there isn't one. My favourite airline "Widerøe" flies them to small airports all around that no other aircraft and airlines fly to... I can't do that in msfs 😭
Wish the engine sounds were better could be better but might be improved later on idk but the aircraft otherwise dosent really seem to like what they were mentioning earlier in the year
Seems to me like the interior sounds need a bit more life... can't seem to hear any pack sounds. Also, they seem to have missed the mark with propeller in feather animation/sounds. The flight deck window beams also appear to be too narrow when referencing real world videos, giving it a bit of a flimsy look. It does look promising though, but i don't think it's quite ready for prime time.
Oooft 😅 I think as SWS developed the model 2yrs ago and they were mentioned as involved people expected Kodiak level but my assessment of it since is that it sits just above the level of the Twin Otter
Those perfectly symetrical engine gages, showing copy paste values from eachother, hurt my eyes. For example the ITT should show like 548-563-552-539 instead of 560-560-560-560. Also the ITT last digit is broken and shows only 0 or 1....
For the record, if you have your binding as Throttle Axis then all throttles are controlled by it as if they were a single unit. I'm betting that's what happened here... I'd assume all one would have to do is simply bind all four throttle axes (1-4) to get each one to respond independently. Actually, unless they didn't allow for the option to bind individual throttles for some reason then what I'm talking about is exactly what's occuring here. So in other words, don't sweat it. ✌️
@@joshallen4848 On real aircraft you never get identical values. Engines wear differently, gages and sensors have slight calibration difference etc. For a iven torque and Prop rpm Ng and temps will always be different by a few %.
ruclips.net/video/k-nopWZDLb4/видео.html Start at 3:22 for the BAAS Dash-7 (as a bonus there's a Honda bizjet in the background). Go to 8:00 for the start of taxi; engines 1 and 4 only are put into fine pitch for the taxiing. Engines 2 and 3 only go to fine pitch just before that start of the takeoff run, so in this respect PILOT'S aircraft appears to be correct.
I’m sure they will find a way to try and throw SWS under the bus for this sub par product that took them forever to get out. To be honest this is what I have come to expect out of PILOTS. No excuse for the sounds since they had access to a real aircraft.
obscure dhc 7 that nobody has seen or been on vs the ever popular dhc8-200/300 that has been all over the world. i know! we should develop the random obscure one! sigh
Isn't Majestic working on the Dash-8, still? I can see why devs aren't touching that thing, considering how even the promise of an eventual Majestic release would likely crush sales. It'd be a bit like developing a new Piper Comanche at this point.
The Dash 7 was used by Widroe in Norway before they started using the Dash 8 operating on Norway's 800 m short field network, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Canada_Dash_7
Pass from me on this one. It all looks a bit ... B grade? I don't think it's aimed at more serious simmers. If it is, I think it needs a lot more work ...
looks average at best its got that p3d cockpit texture vibe to me not upto scratch cockpit doors etc not having sounds also is just a bit lazy and the instruments all reading the same numbers show not much depth or polish. heard mixed reviews on there 314 with kind of the same thing average at best there are plenty of average at best planes in the sim now so unless something is top notch i dont think ill be buying anymore subpar products. hopefully we will get some large high fidelity turboprops in the sim at somepoint as they are lacking just now i think pilots have missed the mark with this one unless its $30 although would i fly this over the dc-6 going with what i have seen so far i dont think its worth buying.
It was cheap. Still, not worth the money asked. The product is terrible. Unfinished, to put it very mildly. Nowhere near Milton's incredible quality freeware product we keep in dear memory.
It’s a nice review. Great video. But I am going to have to pass on this airplane. As I see another comments as long as this airplane has been in development, I am amazed at how they cheated on so much of the development. I think it was very cheaply done it is not simulation in any way, and I think it looks very default. It is by no means a majestic and this will be an airplane I pass on.
This is looking more and more like a day-one purchase for me. I've loved the Dash 7 since the early days of FS9 and Milton Shupe's fantastic freeware offering.

I'll be picking it up, but I hope some folks do some extra tuning on the sounds. Really thats like my only issue thus far is sound, albeit im talking switches & cockpit stuff - maybe a lil more engine bleedthrough into cockpit
Pog, wideroe ops perhaps while waiting for Dash 8 :)
No wideroe livery on release sadly 😅
Air Greenland do fly the 7 i think
I`m also waiting for Widerøe Dash 8
I was lucky to jump seat “fly” the 7 in ‘93, Widerøe Bodø-Fornebu. Otherwise several ordinary passenger flights around Widerøe’s destinations in 🇳🇴.
Yep, I’m old, one airport is gone forever, the other one being moved & rebuilt, and the airplane itself also went dodo replaced by the -8.
And yes, I’m also awaiting a good -8 to make Avinor’s airspace “unsafe” in MSFS…😅
Great looking Dash 7 indeed. Just an FYI, Bella Coola is a far distance from Yellowknife.
@British Avgeek..May I ask what are your specs?
Fair, other creators have also got access though I don't know who - and am also surprised that there are no other reviews (I like to see what others think in comparison to my views to see how it all balances out)
This is my back yard, this aircraft is most welcome. Yellowknife is about 720 nm NE from here. Canada is enormous.
Epic! Beautiful location
@@BritishAvgeek 👍. Was that default Bela Cola or Orbx?
@@michaelfazakas2355 the one from the world update I think 😅
Thank you for your great content; I’ve looked forward to this but wanted to ask whether it has PMS50 GTN support, whether the weather radar works, and if an ADF is fitted? Again, thank-you.
There is no such thing as weather radar in MSFS. Nothing to do with the planes
I'm not sure from memory to be honest I'll look into it again over the next few days - if you're in my discord server be sure to ping and remind me!
Where do I come by that landing widget? That's pretty cool.
It's Parallel 42s Flow Pro with custom widgets from flightsim.to :)
I can't hear it. But are there sounds when you press buttons or flip switches?
Nice review! I think they used this thing at Courcnevel too...
They did!
amazing flight simulator
Wonder if it will be available on console as well?
Assuming its priced appropriately this plane looks fantastic for more casual pilots like me. A unique experience without being too overwhelming. I'd pay between $30 - $40 I think but if they're trying to price it like a full study product ($60+) I'm gonna have to give it a pass.
Apparently it’s planned to be about 20 euro if what I saw in their FB page is correct.
I would think the ignition and booster pumps should be off?
No idea - as I said, I had absolutely no checklist with this build so wanted to play it safe keeping some bits on
there is no support for the PMS50 GTN750?
Sadly no currently
Where is the dash 8 for msfs honestly 😭😭
Don't, I'm dying for a dash 8!!
@@jaywatson4196 Yeah its so sad there isn't one. My favourite airline "Widerøe" flies them to small airports all around that no other aircraft and airlines fly to... I can't do that in msfs 😭
We need a high fidelity Dash 8 for sure
Do you think there may be a Dash-8 soon?
Sadly no, as much as I'd 100% love it!
If it helps, my further assessment is that it's about just above the Twin Otter in standard/level of detail of that makes sense
@@BritishAvgeek it does help! Thanks for the great preview!
Looks like freeware quality
Oooft 😅 I think as SWS developed the model 2yrs ago and they were mentioned as involved people expected Kodiak level but my assessment of it since is that it sits just above the level of the Twin Otter
After experimenting with this aircraft i use 2 engines for taxiing much smoother that way
Yeah seems to be the correct way from real videos too 👌 how're you finding it?
Big DHC fanatic here, so far i like it hopefully with updates it will become something special, this is a really interesting aircraft
Those perfectly symetrical engine gages, showing copy paste values from eachother, hurt my eyes. For example the ITT should show like 548-563-552-539 instead of 560-560-560-560. Also the ITT last digit is broken and shows only 0 or 1....
Good spot, nice to hear from someone with knowledge too - it was tough with no manual, no quick guide to use 😅 it's great fun though for sure
For a iven torque and Prop rpm Ng and temps will always be different by a few %.
where did you take off ?
Bella Coola
ruclips.net/video/k-nopWZDLb4/видео.html Start at 3:22 for the BAAS Dash-7 (as a bonus there's a Honda bizjet in the background). Go to 8:00 for the start of taxi; engines 1 and 4 only are put into fine pitch for the taxiing. Engines 2 and 3 only go to fine pitch just before that start of the takeoff run, so in this respect PILOT'S aircraft appears to be correct.
Yeah, let's fly Greenland
🙌🙌 could be great for the sim update next week
Or maybe visit the mountains of Denmark
Engine start sequence is 3-4-2-1.
I’m sure they will find a way to try and throw SWS under the bus for this sub par product that took them forever to get out. To be honest this is what I have come to expect out of PILOTS. No excuse for the sounds since they had access to a real aircraft.
obscure dhc 7 that nobody has seen or been on vs the ever popular dhc8-200/300 that has been all over the world. i know! we should develop the random obscure one! sigh
It’s used by the military and in the backcountry of Canada,
which is exactly what i said. @@aviationnerd196
A Dash8 would be epic providing it's high fidelity
yep. sad majestic software seems to have gone away. remember that one for fsx and 3.4? @@BritishAvgeek
Isn't Majestic working on the Dash-8, still? I can see why devs aren't touching that thing, considering how even the promise of an eventual Majestic release would likely crush sales.
It'd be a bit like developing a new Piper Comanche at this point.
The Dash 7 was used by Widroe in Norway before they started using the Dash 8 operating on Norway's 800 m short field network, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Canada_Dash_7
yeah this one is gonna need some dirty texture mods in order to make it immersive
😯
Yeah I think it's about Twin Otter level, or slightly above it
we did not need this, we need a q400
It was cheap. Still, not worth the money asked. The product is terrible. Unfinished, to put it very mildly. Nowhere near Milton's incredible quality freeware product we keep in dear memory.
nice previw looks nice this Dash 7
It’s a nice review. Great video. But I am going to have to pass on this airplane. As I see another comments as long as this airplane has been in development, I am amazed at how they cheated on so much of the development. I think it was very cheaply done it is not simulation in any way, and I think it looks very default. It is by no means a majestic and this will be an airplane I pass on.
It's good fun but I think just above the level of the Twin Otter if that helps in my assessment
