has to be one of the most visually pleasing aircraft of all time. Despite Aeroplane Heaven's huge lack of support and ongoing development, we thankfully have the duckworths mod! Loved the sound of the tires touching the ground as well
Hello again Peter, I think most (including myself) would agree - the DC3 is an all time classic (from your own videos, I know that it’s an aircraft you’re fond of)! It really does seem to be a double-edged sword, having all these great aircraft coming into MSFS as “freeware”. On the one hand, it’s an amazing gesture on Asobo’s part and helps keep the sim interesting / entertaining (not to mention it easing the load on our wallets haha), but on the other hand, it seems to ensure that the addon will receive very little by way of updates / support thereafter. I don’t know how much of that comes down to AH and how much of that comes down to Asobo, but there’s not much incentive for the dev to continue to put in the work after release. Thankfully, we have the likes of Duckworks, Denarq etc! Cheers and all the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Yes thats true. By the way, I was trying to research historic routes for the British Midland DC-3's but there is horribly little info on the internet, would you know where a possible routemap might be lurking at all?
Sorry Peter, I’m afraid I don’t have much info on Midland routes from this period. There is some limited info on Wikipedia (that mentions flights down to Jersey for example) and a few other slithers of information scattered around the internet. The route I flew here was a real-world one and apparently the flight also used to go via Leeds sometimes. I’d like to find more info myself, but it seems hard to come by. If I do come across anything, I’ll let you know ; ) Cheers once again!
Correction: you dont have to set your both mixtures to rich in the beginning if your unsure in the startup process as after energize [engine], mesh, magneto on both [engine] and starter engine primer [engine] on, it auto selects mix rich for that engine for you when you hit engine primer start [you may not see it happen but it does] . This was done in the real world to prevent engine fires and it works this way in msfs as well :) it assumes you have copilot assist i guess
Every single video is so enjoyable to watch. I click "like" almost before it starts playing knowing it will be top quality. Thank you for making these.
Haha, well thanks very much, Grigor! That’s very kind of you to say and I am really happy to hear that you’re enjoying the content. My absolute pleasure! Thanks for watching and all the best : )
Well done! I flew 1,600 hours on the DC3 - V1/ V2 was 82 kts & because of the noise the Pilot not flying would make a V signal with his hand & airborne PF a flat hand up for gear & hand back for power reduction. Takeoff power - METO Power (Max except t/o) - 500 ft Climb power. Landing - keep the power as needed for a steady Approach looking for 82 kts & leave the Pitch were it is till touch down then close the throttles & Pich full forward. (Any sign of bounce go slightly forward on the stick) It was a big heavy docile Cessna in the air & could be a challenge taxing on the ground leaving the tail lock in unless you wanted to turn then independent throttle & brakes.
Thanks very much Bill! It’s always a pleasure hearing from those “in the know”. I’m sure flying the old gal must have been great fun (if a little noisy by the sounds of it haha). Cheers for sharing, much appreciated! All the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations I managed to do two ten day tourist trips around Australia in the DC3 that was fun. We had 28 (Pax & crew) chalk numbers around the outside of the left wheel. When parked at the end of the flight the number at the bottom Won the prize.
Ah lovely, Bill! I’m sure that would have been a brilliant experience, with some amazing scenery to boot. It sounds like things were kept light-hearted also. I think if one finds themselves onboard a DC3, for a 10 day tour, they have already won the prize haha : ) Cheers!
My first time ever on a plane was an RCAF DC-3 rigged with bench seats down the side for paratrooper ops when I was in Air Cadets. Scared shtless until she just floated up and away we went! Took off from CYCD, up to CYQQ over Vancouver Island to CYAZ then back to CYCD. That was 53 years ago and was such a great flight to remember!💕 Absolutely LOVE the DC-3!
Im really glad that the video brought back some nice memories, Jim. I’m sure that flight would have been a superb and memorable experience, especially as a young lad! Thanks for sharing and all the best : )
Most excellent! Another great review and the vintage music and ATC are wonderful enhancements. I’m sure the passengers enjoyed their cocktails! No nasty plastic cups here! Well done!
Thanks very much once again, Tubez. I’m really glad you enjoyed the little trip down memory lane! Haha, I’m sure the passengers had a lovely trip up North! If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing in style ; ) Cheers and all the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations I think the additional touches you include truly enhance the experience for your viewers. Very creative. Thanks for all your hard work!
I recently saw the Midlands livery online as ordered by you and I thought "goody - a DC-3 flight video"'. I used to fly on DC-3's as a kid (passenger of course!!) and they became a firm favourite. I have also loved them on FSX, P3D and now MSFS. Simply put, they are my favourite aeroplane. Oh, and of course I downloaded your livery for use on my DC-3 in tribute to your great videos. As always, fly safe.
Haha, Sherlock Holmes would be proud, sir! I would love to have flown on a DC3 and I can only imagine what a memorable experience it must have been, especially as a young boy. I too, very much enjoyed the aircraft in FSX and P3D (I recall some very memorable flights, trying to operate the DC3 in thick IFR weather, up in the Shetland islands haha), but hadn’t really flown the MSFS version much until this vid (though not for any particular reason). I certainly enjoyed this flight though, all the more so with the Duckworks mod and a shiny new Midland livery ; ) I’m very happy that the livery might get put to further good use! Thanks very much for watching / downloading. Happy flying : )
The good old DC3 really only gets better.. but dam 18:18 these powerlines grow in unfortunate locations, I hope the neighbourhood can deal with a blackout.
Haha, indeed MZ! I can only assume that either those power lines were not there back in the day, or that the sim has incorrectly identified what sort of power lines they should be. We should be ok though; I guess with it being the 1950’s people didn’t have quite so many electrical appliances to worry about anyway ; ) Thanks for watching! All the best : )
I do not comment often, but your videos with their enhancements are truly worth some admiration. This video got all of me just feeling back in time. In a place where I wasn't was but wished to be at. Your content is outstanding sir. The vintage music, the cinematics. We do not often see such things these days, where it's all about ''realism'' and the true "raw-flying experience" without any sort of added "cinematics" whatsoever. Please keep this amazing content going, Sir, it's truly a pleasure. Cheers
Thank you very much indeed for the kind words, Dahomy! It’s always brilliant to hear that someone is enjoying the content and certainly very much appreciated. I like to try and keep things reasonably realistic, but I probably enjoy creating the cinematics / “storyline” even more so : ) I will certainly try my best to keep the videos coming. Thanks very much once again and all the best!
Your videos always have a nice cinematic touch. The music is usually spot on. An interesting trip in this airplane is to duplicate the early "redeye" flights from KJFK to KLAX. These were originally done in the DC-2 and then the DC-3. I believe there were three fueling stops, in Chicago (probably Midway at the time), Kansas City and Albuquerque. Takeoff is in late afternoon or early evening with a morning arrival in Los Angeles. I think the flights had a change of crew in Kansas City. The planes had sleeping berths for the passengers-truly the golden age of air travel. The flights became non-stop when the DC-4 came along. I wonder how often the weather allowed these trips to go as scheduled.
Thanks very much, Jay! I certainly always try and elevate my flights, just that little bit : ) Those do sound like interesting flights (there’s something quite appealing, about the idea of heading of into the sunset in a DC3). Sadly, I don’t think I’d have the time to make such a hop and I miss enough sleep as it is already XD A trans-continental US trip is something I would like to undertake at some point though. I just finished reading a book about the first ever trans-con US flight and I think it would be fascinating to try and recreate the same thing in one of MSFS’ vintage aircraft. Again though, such an endeavour would be quite the time sink haha. Cheers and all the best!
Excellent video and music. Prestwick EGPK is my local airport and I fly into Glasgow regularly in the sim. (Good for testing aircraft and weather conditions). Love flying the DC3.
Thank you very much Ted, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! Much of Scotland is beautiful (both in and out of the sim) and the weather can indeed make for some challenging flying conditions haha. I’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying the DC3 - it is a beautiful aircraft : ) Cheers and all the best!
Great video! Something about the radials makes me all giddy inside. Did a few flights in the sim with the DC-3 in Iceland as Icelandair had several in their fleet back in the day. Good stuff!
Thanks very much, James. I’m very happy to hear that you enjoyed the video and indeed, that you’re enjoying the DC3! There is something special about Radial engines, undoubtedly. Iceland is an absolutely stunning country, so I’m sure you’ve been having some great flights : ) Cheers and all the best!
Very cool, Cade! I actually wasn’t aware, that the Navy had their own version / designation of the DC3 - thanks for sharing. My pleasure on the video! I’m glad you enjoyed the little trip back in time ; ) Many thanks!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations He also flew the Navy version of the DC-6 have a pic of him in the cockpit of one in his flight suit. So many dials and levers on that one.
Very cool, Cade. I’m sure your dad must have had great fun, flying some iconic machines for the Navy! It’s great that you have the opportunity to experience the DC3 / DC6 in the sim also : )
The DC 3 has something special, not only I have quite a lot of Skydives out if it, I also planned to fly the Dutch Dakota Association DC3 myself as a Co Pilot with my customers as pax when my company celebrated its 10 years anniversary. Unfortunately 3 days before this event this aircraft crashed near Texel Island (killing everybody on board). That was quitte a shocking event. The DC3 will always have a special place in my heart though. For my feeling the tail of this one has to come up earlier on take-off run and the pitch angle is quite high on touchdown. Thanks for this video!
Ah well, I’m very sorry to hear about such a tragic accident, Ben and also that as a result, you never got to fly the DC3. The aircraft is undoubtedly an absolute classic and it’s great that most of us can at least get some sense of these vintage machines, via the sim. My pleasure on the video! I glad it brought back some nice memories (as well as some less pleasant ones). RIP to all those involved in the crash. Thanks for watching and all the best!
Young and stupid, I once took of with a fully loaded PA28 from a short field with a high voltage power line just beyond the runway. This brought back some memories
Haha, what are you suggesting, Björn?? (I’m certainly not young anymore, though I might still be stupid occasionally) : P I think we’ve all had moments in our flying careers, where we’ve winced but gotten away with something. Those of us who are lucky enough to get away with these sorts of things, can at least learn our lesson and take it with us on the next flight. I’m glad the video brought back some memories, even if it wasn’t the most positive one haha! Thanks for sharing and all the best : )
This video is great! Thank you. I had Radio 2 on in the background, and this video is so immersive that I'm sure the 2 O'Clock news reported that Neville Chamberlain has become Prime Minister!
Thank you very much LL, very kind of you to say ! I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight and felt suitably immersed : ) My absolute pleasure and all the best to you!
Burnaston airfield is now the home to a Toyota factory. I live in Burton and have flown out of tatenhill airfield which is about 5-10 miles away from the factory and once you’re up in the air, you can still make out the old runway layouts!
Haha, is that so, Tom. Well, some would argue that a field full of Toyotas, isn’t quite as glamorous as a field full of DC3’s, but it’s cool that you can still see the old runways to some degree (when you fly around the UK, you can see why pilots during WW2, were never hard-pressed to find an airfield haha). Thanks very much for sharing! All the best : )
Ah lovely stuff, Roy. That must have been quite the sight! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks very much for watching and all the best to you : )
Thanks very much, NG! I’m glad you enjoyed the intro and indeed, a spot of The Queen’s (well, King’s now, I suppose) finest English ; ) Thanks for watching! Cheers : )
If ever i got a pilots license, the Douglas DC3 would be the aircraft i would want to fly/own. Probably the design, look and history that draws my like for this aircraft.
Love the intro. What a plane in it's day, the "young'uns" can't appreciate what it must have been like to climb into this bird and be taken to the next destination in short order. Thanks for our insight! !! !!!
Thanks very much Mark! I would have loved to have experienced the DC3 for myself, but this is probably the closest I’ll get at this point haha (still, it’s great that we have the opportunity to get just a little bit closer to these aircraft, within the sim). I’m glad you enjoyed our little trip back in time! Thanks for watching : )
Awesome vid as usual, with the trademark ITBS perfrct descent and landing. I liked the period radio chatter, complete with cut-glass British accents. Poor old "Speedbird 500" though. Going up and down through the flight levels like a yo-yo. Definitely recreating that default Microsoft ATC experience.
Thanks very much, Roland. I’m glad you enjoyed the flight and indeed, a spot of The Queen’s (King’s?) finest English! ; ) Haha, I didn’t notice the plight of Speedbird 500; as you say, clearly since inception, Microsoft flight sims have been modelling their ATC systems off 1950’s air traffic controlling. He’s going to be even more annoyed, when he has to go-around 5 times, due to traffic on the runway XD All the best!
Thanks very much Thomas, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! I dare say we’ll take another outing in the DC3, at some point ; ) Much appreciated and all the best to you! Cheers : )
Amazing video as usual! Thank you again for the opportunity of creating this livery! DuckWorks really brought this airplane to a really enjoyable level, just like in real life, the DC-3 only gets better!
Thank you very much once again, sir, for all of your hard work and dedication! I think all of the time we (mostly you haha) spent on the repaint really paid off; the DC3 looks brilliant and this very quickly became my 2nd most downloaded livery! Apologies if I mispronounced your name / moniker by the way. I had meant to check with you ahead of releasing the video, but ran out of time in the end. I look forward to working together on some more projects in the future (I have a few in mind already ; )! Cheers and all the best : )
This was awesome. There were a couple of things I noted though having researched how to fly this thing myself. For starters apparently one should not reduce manifold pressure below 20", and rpm below 2050 for descent, with an exception of 18" / 1700rpm for short, steep, descents. MP should never be below RPM/100 other than when pulling the power on touchdown (e.g. if rpm is ~2500 then MP should not go below 25"). Secondly you should apparently never 3 pointer the DC3. Land on the fronts and hold the tail up until it comes down by itself. A very cool and interesting bird. And other than the above nit pickings, you flew her amazing tbh. Better than I can lol, but I'm improving.
Many thanks for the kind words, S0cks and for the info also! Noted on the engine power settings - I’m never patient enough with radials in the sim haha. I was semi-aware of the 3-pointer issue however, that landing was somewhat of a “concession” for the sim; at least at the time of recording, that was the only type of landing where I could maintain any sort of directional control on touchdown. Much appreciated and all the best! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video : )
What a wonderful aircraft, flight and livery! The only irritant was "Speedbird 500"! That aside, thank you so much for creating a beautiful video! I live just up the road from Darley Dale. (The place, not the aircraft sadly). It's between Bakewell and Matlock on the A6 in Derbyshire. 😊
Very nice, love this aeroplane. I found that assigning the tailwheel lock to a joystick button very handy. The landings and take off's with a locked tailwheel are much easier!
Thanks very much for the pointer, Geoffrey! Funnily enough, when I came to fly the Beech 18 (after recording this video), I realised I had already assigned a key bind to the tailwheel lock, so I was making life harder for myself throughout this flight haha. I’m glad you enjoyed the flight and indeed, that you’re enjoying the DC3! Happy flying and all the best : )
i read in the vskylabs dc3 manual that the fuel cutoff is in the idle position so that the engines don't flood with fuel on start. that being said, i can't start their plane without putting them in autorich to begin with. i just chalk it up to it being a sim, and don't worry about it because i'll always get a fresh plane whenever i want one. i'd only take it more seriously if i had the privilege of flying one irl. the dc3 is a fun plane with a rich history. the twin engines make it a reliable workhorse, while the tailwheel makes for more involved landings, which means more fun joystick flying time, and less "watch as the ils lands the plane for me!". i'm currently learning the basics of navigation in it, just to be able to fly it better, and become a better pilot overall, it's not too overwhelming of a platform, and it's pretty forgiving, though it must be treated with respect if you are to gain anything out of it. i used to hate general aviation just because a cessna is too vanilla for me. it's like when you learn how to ride a bicycle as a kid, you begin with a tricycle. i think i've put in my hours with my tricycle cessna (which weren't very many to begin with) and now found my sweet spot here in the dc3.
I don't know how I missed this review. As a 10 year old, I lived in Derby in the 50's. I used to cycle to the airfield, a bottle of water, cheese sandwiches and mums just baked cake in my saddle bag, ready for a days aero spotting. The airfield was nothing like the sim, completely devoid of any tree's around the perimeter, the A38 running parallel with the Southern perimeter and runway. The aircraft of the day, were Puss Moths, Fox Moths, Gipsy Moths, Tiger Moths, Austers (made locally in Leicestershire) and to my delight, an ex target pulling DH Mosquito. The Mosquito (still with black and yellow stripes) was used for aerial photography. In the mid 50's, Derby Aviation (forerunner of British Midland) started scheduled flights to Jersey using DH Dragon Rapides. The next year, DC3's took over for the Jersey flights. An old gentleman told me of the time he and his wife were going to Jersey for their holidays in the DC3, half way down the runway the aircraft stopped it's take off and taxied back to the stand. Out raced a Jeep with Oxy Acetylene on board, the aircraft was lifted off the ground, the tail wheel welded back on. Throughout this time, no passenger got off the plane. My old friend was relieved that they made it to Jersey in one piece. In the late 50's British Midland sent it's Canadair North Star "Argonauts" to Burnaston for Servicing, The Argonaut was a DC4 with 4 Merlin engines for higher speed. I can still feel the thrill as a young kid standing by the perimeter fence when the Argonauts were winding up their engines belching smoke and grass cutting to get off the short grass runway. Alas, Burnaston Aerodrome is just an old memory for an old guy like me, it is now the home of Toyota car company. As for me, I did become a glider pilot and enjoyed soaring in the sky, just like the Sky Larks at Burnaston did in my youth. C'est La Vie
Thank you very much for sharing your memories, Ptarmigan. That sounds like a dream of a day out, for a young boy growing up in the UK haha! Your memory definitely serves you correctly; unfortunately, no Burnaston scenery exists for MSFS (and it’s far beyond my abilities to make one), so I had to use a little bit of “artistic licence” and modify an existing Derby Aerodrome scenery. The shorter runways and abundance of trees, didn’t make life easy though ha. We should apparently be getting an Argonaut for MSFS at some point, so I’m looking forward to giving that one a whirl (replicating British Midland ops for sure). The DC3 (with the Duckworks mod) is a very nice option for the sim also though and so far I’ve managed to keep all 3 wheels on the aircraft XD I’m glad that your days at Burnaston (amongst other things I’m sure), inspired your to reach for the skies; gliding is such a wonderful way to fly. It’s great that the video brought back some nice memories for you. Many thanks again and all the best! : )
Thank you for taking the time out of your valuable time to reply to an old guys memories. I'll take the time to give my memories of flying behind the "Chippy" on glider tow on your Chipmunk review!@@IntotheBlueSimulations
Hi, a great flight 'back in time'! I love this sort of flying, it's such a good contrast to the modern airliner. I will check out the mod for the DC-3. I am also looking forward to the AH Lancaster, hopefully not too far away now 😎
Thanks very much, Peter, I’m glad you enjoyed this “blast from the past”! The Duckworks mod is certainly well worth checking out and breathes some new life into the DC3. I’m very much looking forward to the Lancaster as well (I had thought we might have seen it by now). If I do say so myself, I have a pretty great video idea lined up for the review haha. I found out just the other day, that in true MSFS form, there is actually someone else working on another Lancaster as well (so we’ll hopefully end up being spoilt for choice ha). Many thanks, as always! : )
Thanks Mike! Haha funnily enough, to me the DC3 feels very out of place in the UK. I’m not sure why though, since plenty of airlines operated the aircraft after the war (Midland being a case in point). I suppose, as I never saw them growing up, the DC3 just seems like something a little bit “otherworldly” haha. I’m glad you enjoyed the video though! Many thanks once again : )
Well looking at the length of this video I was only going to watch the startup - just to enjoy the look of the cockpit and the engine sounds. I wound up watching the whole video. Well done! Already subscribed and this video gets a definite Like. Cheers,
Thanks very much SP! That’s probably just about the biggest compliment a “content creator” could receive haha. I’m really glad you enjoyed the video to such a degree. Thanks for the sub / like and even more so, thank you very much for your kind words - much appreciated : ) Cheers and all the best!

Thanks very much, Speedlime! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and indeed, that you’re enjoying the DC3 - the aircraft is a pleasure to fly in MSFS. Happy flying and all the best! : )
RE: Tail Wheel Lock - My father was in a crash the last day of the Korean war because the pilot failed to lock the tail wheel. It set up a shimmy and sideways skid followed by a right main blowout. The pilot tried to make it fly but it stalled and skidded across the tracks. Dad said it was burning before they came to a stop. The pilot was the only fatality. You can see his limbless torso in the crash photos. My step dad, out of all the airframes he commanded, loves the "Gooney Bird". He said he rarely flew anything that wanted to fly more than the C-47.
Gosh, Kyle, sounds like a very nasty accident (doubly sad, to make it all the way through the war, only to fall foul of such an omission). RIP to the pilot. Another story for the memoirs by the sounds of it ; ) Thanks for sharing and all the best!
Thanks very much, LAX Rider! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and I’m happy to hear that you enjoy some vintage aviation within the sim also : ) Cheers and all the best!
Hi Jep, Nice. That sounds like a great (and challenging) way to spend some time with the DC3! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Happy flying and all the best to you : )
The Duckworks mod is certainly well worth a try, Snowy and please do give the Midland livery a go, if you feel so inclined : ) I’m really glad you enjoyed the video - my pleasure. Happy flying and all the best!
Beautiful aircraft. What's the reason for the choppy/low FPS prop animation on startup though? I've seen this in some other aircraft and it's a bit naff...
I’m not 100% sure Chris, but I would imagine any reduction in actual FPS, is caused by the smoke effects. The choppy prop animation, I think is meant to simulate the engine taking a split second to catch (it does look a bit “off”, but then I guess it’s probably not easy to animate such a thing). I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
Your tutorials and flights are seriously enjoyable & I learn something new every time. You’ve got me back into old-school radial engine flying & navigation. It’s an elegance that is unmatched in today’s world! Quick question - is there a DME in the DC3 (with the mod)? I haven’t been able to find one, and it makes navigation tricky & reliant on timing
Thank you very much indeed, Yo, hugely appreciated! I’m really happy I’ve gotten you back into some vintage / radial flying haha. As best I could tell, there’s no DME in the DC3 unfortunately (at least not in the non-GPS version). The lack of DME certainly makes things a little bit trickier but then again, it’s quite fun having to rely on the old stopwatch for certain things. Perhaps Duckworks will be able to mod in a DME at a later date. I hope that clarifies things. Many thanks once again and all the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations thank you, that definitely does provide clarity - and glad you’ve validated that I wasn’t going mad! Well likewise Yo, thank you very much for the kind words! It’s always very much appreciated and nice to know of course, that my efforts don’t go unnoticed (I do spent a lot of time on replying to comments and I must admit, whilst I enjoy replying to people, it’s getting to the point now where I struggle to keep up haha). Thanks very much, David! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and indeed the livery ; ) The Duckworks mod is well worth it! Firstly, it’s free haha, but it improves the DC3 in a number of areas. I haven’t flown the default DC3 all that much myself, so I can’t offer many direct comparisons but for example, systems modelling is more accurate (the gyropilot cannot be used, unless the hydraulic flow selector is in the correct position), some visual detailing has been tweaked up (riveting on the nose section looks much improved), I believe the flight model and the weight and balance have been updated also. The mod is certainly worth a try at any rate. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching and all the best! : )
Thank you for all that you do and show us on your channel. i for one absolutely love your content and the way you show and fly the aircraft in your simulation, i am not a professional pilot like yourself, however I am a pilot and I have flown war birds, north American T28 Trojans and Australian Winjeels Australian airforce trainers, my I add a gorgeous aircraft to fly in all aspects, very unforgiving and a absolute delight to fly. Kind regards
Thank you very much for the kind words, Terry! It’s hugely appreciated and always a pleasure to hear that someone is enjoying the content. Haha well, professional pilot or not, I must say that I’m very envious! I would love to have flown something as interesting as the T28, Winjeel etc. Ant’s Airplanes made a really nice Winjeel for FSX, so I suspect / hope that we’ll see that in MSFS at some point. My sincere thanks once again! All the best : )
Hi MrWguts, Well, much of it comes down to the TrackIR profile and in your particular case, it sounds like setup may be an issue also. My profile is available for download over on Flightsim.to, should you wish to give it a go for yourself. If you’re getting outputs that are completely contrary to your head movement, I’d make sure that you have TrackIR set up correctly, eg checking that you have correct selection (in the software) between the Hat Track Clip and the Track Clip Pro (depending on which you’re using) etc. I hope that helps a little? All the best : )
Another! Beatuifully Created Scenareo from ITB! I have now found many many things about the AH DC3 that i never even knew, or would not have until i took a look at this :D Many Many Thanks to your good self sir! And... Now i feel the need to get all Vinatage all Over MSFS! :P Please? Keep em comming :P
Well, thank you very so much, RH! I’m really glad you enjoyed the little journey back in time and I’m all the more pleased, if you feel you got something out of the video : ) My absolutely pleasure, as always. I’m happy I’ve gotten you in the mood for some vintage flying haha. Many thanks once again and all the best!
It could be Jason, I’m afraid I don’t recall the name of the piece (if you think you recognise the song, you’re probably correct). Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one. All the best! : )
Very nice, ZK. I would imagine, that experience would have been a whole lot more pleasant, than your average domestic LoCo flight today haha ; ) I was just saying to someone else, that I’ve never really associated the DC3 with the UK, but I’ve no idea why, since plenty of them were being operated by British airlines back in the day (it’s just that it was before my time I suppose). Thanks for sharing and all the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Yes they were probably WWII Surplus left behind by the Yanks or even an ex-RAF Dakota. She also flew pre-WWII at the seaside, possibly Blackpool in an air-experience flight. Probably Cobham’s Flying Circus. She was an adventurous soul. 👍
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Got some great Liveries there, even a US Army one, but I kinda like the one from the film 'The Thing from another World.' With the Tropical Tilly pinup on her nose.
That's not Burnaston Aerodrome, that's long gone sadly (now a huge Toyota factory). That's Derby Airfield, which is just a few miles down the road, on the other side of the village Etwall. It was built to replace Burnaston.
Correct, Ollie. Nobody has modelled Burnaston aerodrome for MSFS though, so I had to use a little bit of “artistic licence” haha ; ) Cheers, all the best! : )
Good question, Chrshv. To be honest, I’m not really sure. Given the nature of the mod, I would suspect that Duckworks has built on what is already there, rather than reverting to a less complex flight model. Sorry I can’t offer more insight. Cheers and all the best : )
Hi SM, I’m really sorry but, I can’t recall the name of the piece of music. It would have come from either the RUclips audio library, or otherwise from some sort of 1930’s ish playlist. Apologies that I can’t be of more help on that one. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the Duckworks mod and indeed the livery! Happy flying and all the best : )
Hi Arroz, I used Simbrief (a free, online flight planning tool) and had the program auto-calculate the required fuel uplift for me. Otherwise though, I’m sure there’s plenty of data floating around online re the DC3’s fuel burn - it wouldn’t be too hard to calculate the numbers for yourself, should you so wish : ) I hope that helps a little. All the best!
Landing this baby is tricky for me. I can get a nice touchdown, and things are ok while I have rudder authority, but I always lose control when the tail drops down
For me I find keeping the tail wheel locked for take off and landing and try to keep the speed low when coming in then try and keep the tail wheel off the ground as long as possible so you are going quite slow before it touch’s down helped me.
Hi SB, Personally, I don’t have much time in the sim with the DC3 (so I’m not best placed to be giving advice), but WhiteHawk’s suggestions sound like the way to go. With the tailwheel locked, most taildraggers in MSFS behave pretty well, once you have that tailwheel down on the ground. It’s probably worth bearing in mind the crosswind component when you’re landing also; I’m not sure when it comes to the DC3 specifically, but many of these vintage aircraft were not designed to deal with significant crosswinds. Sorry that I can’t really offer up any more helpful advice there. I hope you manage to make some progress with your landings. Happy flying and all the best! : )
Hi RF, I’m afraid, I don’t know the specific altitude but, a good time to switch over would be when you’re at full throttle and can no longer maintain the desired manifold pressure (be sure to reduce MP, before engaging the blower / supercharger, otherwise you might overboost the engine!). I seem to recall that on the default DC3, the superchargers are “locked out” / automatic; I can’t remember whether or not operation is modelled on the Duckworks mod. I hope that helps a little. All the best!
Many thanks Mirko, I’m glad you enjoyed the flight! I think the last time I looked at the Constellation, was about 1 year ago. I *may* take another look at the aircraft again one day but, to be honest, whilst the Connie isn’t a bad product from Red Wing, I still don’t think the level of quality justifies the price of the addon. Covering older addons is often tricky, as there are always so many new aircraft coming out to review. Cheers and all the best!
What checklist are you using for this? I need to update the Duckworks, and go do some Qantas island hops around PNG. I wish I didn't have massive issues with tail draggers on the ground though.
Hi ML, I’m using a checklist that I found over on Flightsim.to - it seems to have been specifically written up for the Duckworks mod. If you have trouble finding the checklist, let me know and I’ll try and get back to you with a link. I hope that helps a little. Happy flying and all the best! : )
Hello, great Flight. I cannot see that the lighting, landing lights, pos light and beacon are switched on. You can see that very well. What am I doing wrong?
Hello Fabian, Thanks very much, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! Are you referring to the intensity of the external lights? I’m afraid I’m not really sure what the issue could be there. . . You are running the Duckworks Mod version of the aircraft (I suppose that could account for the difference)? Otherwise, I would presume it comes down to a certain graphical setting within the sim, but unfortunately I don’t know which one that could be. Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one. Cheers and all the best : )
Cowl flaps open the whole time seems a bit counterintuitive, but maybe that is just how these birds fly in temperate weather. (Oops: they were closed at some point.)
Oh, is that so, Tony? What a peculiar bug for an aircraft haha! That’s a real shame, hopefully Duckworks can do something to address that issue also then. Cheers, all the best! : )
Haha, well this has to be one of my favourite comments to date! I very much enjoy GPLaps content and he is a master of creating the right ambiance within his videos. I only wish I shared his dulcet commentary style XD The background ATC comes from real world recordings, which I have then edited into the video. There is an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after (though it won’t be period correct of course haha). Thanks very much for the kind words! Much appreciated and all the best : )
Hi Dougie, My pleasure on the video! Hmmm, that’s strange regarding the livery. I can’t think why that would be the case. The fuselage it not reflective under any lighting conditions? Could you please describe a little bit further, what it is you’re actually seeing? Cheers and all the best : )
Hi Belevezero, Haha, yeah. The MSFS DC3 is pretty skitterish to say the least. I had the same issues and was dancing all over the pedals like a madman during that landing ; ) Locking the tailwheel certainly helps and landing as slow as possible seems to mitigate the behaviour a little bit also, but like most taildraggers in the sim, the DC3 could use some more work (although to be fair, I think the behaviour is caused by sim limitations, as much as anything). Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one. All the best! : )
It doesn’t look to be Tryst, no. Although, I suppose in fairness to Aeroplane Heaven, it isn’t stated exactly what era of DC3 they were intending to model, so the radios could have been hypothetically “retrofitted” (but then it would have been nice to see a few more mod cons also - a dme for example). Cheers, all the best : )
Duckworths advanced autopilot is bugged! Either it is that or there is some conflict with my third party payware installs...no freeware other then skins!
Hi Filipe, I didn’t notice any obvious bugs myself (though I’m by no means an expert when it comes to the Sperry). What’s the issue that you’re having? All the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Cannot activate autopilot nor nav, heading, approach, and altitude is the only thing I can see...I click it in and it turns off immediately...Sad because they did such an amazing work and the DC-3 is one of my fav planes of all times...maybe I am doing something really wrong.
Hi Mr Sunlander, It is indeed. In fact, it is a mod of a mod haha. I downloaded a freeware scenery for Derby Aerodrome and then customised it a little bit myself, to give the airfield a more period / Midland feel. It was my first attempt at editing scenery and the results were definitely a little rough around the edges, but it came out decent enough for the purposes of the video. Unfortunately, I can’t share my efforts, as the original Derby Aerodrome scenery was not my own work. I hope that clarifies things. All the best! : )
Nice. I will have to get this. I enjoy the DC3 but the stock version was a little disappointing. I wouldn't mind knowing the procedures for the supercharger(s). Could it have been used on takeoff and that near meet with power lines? :P
Hi Mercury, If you’re fan of the DC3, I’m sure you’ll really enjoy the Duckworks mod! I believe the blowers / superchargers are used to maintain manifold pressure at altitude; they’re locked out on the default DC3, but I seem to recall that they do function on the Duckworks mod. I don’t think the blowers would have been much use in this particular case, as I was already running the engines up at max manifold pressure for the takeoff (presumably, that power line wasn’t there back in the day haha ; ) I hope that clarifies things a little? All the best! : )
Very impressive. IMO the default TO view attitude sitting on ground is wrong. You should not be able to see the horizon, just sky. Ref the skewed view of instrument panel. It like sitting on ten pillows. The fuselage centerline and forward line of sight should be parallel, not crossing some meters ahead of aircraft. But, this my IMO. When tail is lifted, the horizon should be in normal view, similar to a nose gear aircraft. Most msfs pilots was scared when tail lifted and the impression was a dive, pulling up in stall. Long time since flying DC3 - to address the problem I saved my own TO view - using instrument panel as initial reference. But maybe Duckworks fixed this with a new flight model? Seems to be a takeoff with very little tail lift. But maybe this the correct attitude for rotate, or it is normal to get airborne with no stick pull. The same with tailwheel. Even when locked, you need differential braking to keep it straight. But again maybe Duckworks made this easier to control? Anyway - this video inspired me to fired up this old lady again. Thanks!
Just purchased Spartan 7W (CHG) - In this the default view during takeoff roll, feels right when tail lifts. I am not sure why, and not able to pinpoint exactly.
Cheers Øystein, I’m glad the video has inspired you to fire up the DC3 again! It’s definitely worth giving the Duckworks mod a go also. I can’t really say exactly what has / hasn’t been improved with the mod, having flown the default DC3 very little myself, but I know most aspects of the aircraft have been overhauled in one way or another. I agree with you regarding the viewpoint, though I don’t mind making little concessions like that in the sim (the player has no peripheral vision, or the ability to easy peak over the combing etc). As I understand it, the DC3 did / does somewhat fly itself off the runway, though from vids I’ve seen, I would say that the attitude does look a bit off in the sim (with the tail sitting too low in MSFS). I’m far from an expert though, to be fair. Happy flying! Cheers : )
Nice - but the landing outside view here looks like a 3-point landing, which you should really not do in a real DC-3. This is because if anything goes wrong in a 3-point landing (e.g., the tail wheel coming down first and quite hard) it can cause a lot of the stress to the plane. With smaller tail draggers it's not a problem, but for the DC-3 it is.
Thanks for the feedback, Zeb. I certainly take your point, but unfortunately it’s a bit of a “sim thing”. I find it’s pretty hard to land the MSFS DC3 on the mains, without the aircraft A) bouncing and B) getting incredibly squirrelly on the touchdown. I find going for a 3-pointer, mitigates much of that behaviour. Cheers and all the best! : )
Hi Doremy, Well yes, but intentionally. As I explained during the video, I opted not to use the tailwheel lock, as it is so buried away under the centre console and therefore virtual impossible to operate. In hindsight, I should have just assigned a keybind, but that didn’t occur to me at the time ; ) I hope that clarifies things. All the best! : )
Hi Huig, If you’re running on PC, the mod should work just fine (it’s free so, no harm in giving it a go : ) The DuckWorks mod isn’t available on the console though, no. I hope that helps. All the best!
Hello John, I’d be happy to try and offer up some help, but I’m afraid I’m going to need a little bit more to go off than that haha ; ) What exactly is the issue?
unfortunately the flight model is quite ok but the ground handling is poor, it needs modifications that can be done only if you know which values in the flight model need how much adjusting.
I agree Peter; the ground handling could certainly be better, particularly during the landing / rollout. I know very little about flight modelling, so it would be down to someone else to sort it out; hopefully Duckworks will continue to develop and tweak the flight model of the DC3 (if Aeroplane Heaven don’t choose to do so themselves). Cheers, all the best!
has to be one of the most visually pleasing aircraft of all time. Despite Aeroplane Heaven's huge lack of support and ongoing development, we thankfully have the duckworths mod! Loved the sound of the tires touching the ground as well
Hello again Peter,
I think most (including myself) would agree - the DC3 is an all time classic (from your own videos, I know that it’s an aircraft you’re fond of)!
If I do come across anything, I’ll let you know ; )
Cheers once again!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Cheers thanks! definitely would be interested if you find out more
and we get nothing on xobx its so annoying to be forced to play poorly made and arcade aircraft
Thanks for the info, Peter. Much appreciated and all the best! : )
(Any sign of bounce go slightly forward on the stick)
It was a big heavy docile Cessna in the air & could be a challenge taxing on the ground leaving the tail lock in unless you wanted to turn then independent throttle & brakes.
I think if one finds themselves onboard a DC3, for a 10 day tour, they have already won the prize haha : )
Cheers!
That was 53 years ago and was such a great flight to remember!💕
Absolutely LOVE the DC-3!
If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing in style ; )
Cheers and all the best!
I certainly enjoyed this flight though, all the more so with the Duckworks mod and a shiny new Midland livery ; )
I’m very happy that the livery might get put to further good use! Thanks very much for watching / downloading. Happy flying : )
Hands Down, THE BEST flightsim channel on RUclips! Thank you again for another lovely flight!
We should be ok though; I guess with it being the 1950’s people didn’t have quite so many electrical appliances to worry about anyway ; )
Thanks for watching!
I like to try and keep things reasonably realistic, but I probably enjoy creating the cinematics / “storyline” even more so : )
I will certainly try my best to keep the videos coming.
I certainly always try and elevate my flights, just that little bit : )
Those do sound like interesting flights (there’s something quite appealing, about the idea of heading of into the sunset in a DC3). Sadly, I don’t think I’d have the time to make such a hop and I miss enough sleep as it is already XD
A trans-continental US trip is something I would like to undertake at some point though. I just finished reading a book about the first ever trans-con US flight and I think it would be fascinating to try and recreate the same thing in one of MSFS’ vintage aircraft. Again though, such an endeavour would be quite the time sink haha.
Cheers and all the best!
LOL little close to those power lines on departure there...
Haha, indeed Jeremy! I can only assume that those power lines didn’t use to be there XD
Flew on a Delta Dc-3 from Amsterdan to Antwerp in 1972. It was an experience.
Superb, Semsem, I’m sure it was a brilliant experience! I presume it was a leisure flight on an ex-Delta DC3, was it? Lucky you : )
All the best!
I’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying the DC3 - it is a beautiful aircraft : )
Cheers and all the best!
Iceland is an absolutely stunning country, so I’m sure you’ve been having some great flights : )
Cheers and all the best!
The intro video is so perfect
Thanks very much Traviesus, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! : )
My dad flew the US Navy version the R4D. Thanks for the peek into his past Capt!
Very cool, Cade! I actually wasn’t aware, that the Navy had their own version / designation of the DC3 - thanks for sharing.
My pleasure on the video! I’m glad you enjoyed the little trip back in time ; )
Many thanks!
😢 What a tragedy
@@ThorNjord ☹️
(I’m certainly not young anymore, though I might still be stupid occasionally) : P
I think we’ve all had moments in our flying careers, where we’ve winced but gotten away with something.
I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight and felt suitably immersed : )
My absolute pleasure and all the best to you!
Great video and love the "in period" ATC and music 🙂
Thanks very much, flyhalf. I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight / little trip back in time!
Cheers for watching and all the best : )
I too live in Burton and remember spending time at the old Burnaston airfield watching the DC3s come and go!! Excellent video, so atmospheric!
Ah lovely stuff, Roy. That must have been quite the sight!
I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks very much for watching and all the best to you : )
Love the intro, music and the old British style sounding atc voice in the background was a nice touch.
Thanks very much, NG! I’m glad you enjoyed the intro and indeed, a spot of The Queen’s (well, King’s now, I suppose) finest English ; )
Thanks for watching! Cheers : )
If ever i got a pilots license, the Douglas DC3 would be the aircraft i would want to fly/own.
Probably the design, look and history that draws my like for this aircraft.
get yourself a Basler BT-67, it's a DC3 with Turboprops!
Go work for Buffalo :D.
I’m glad you enjoyed the flight and indeed, a spot of The Queen’s (King’s?) finest English! ; )
Haha, I didn’t notice the plight of Speedbird 500; as you say, clearly since inception, Microsoft flight sims have been modelling their ATC systems off 1950’s air traffic controlling. He’s going to be even more annoyed, when he has to go-around 5 times, due to traffic on the runway XD
All the best!
I'd love some more DC-3 content. Absolutely beautiful editing as well, very tasteful!
Thanks very much Thomas, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! I dare say we’ll take another outing in the DC3, at some point ; )
Much appreciated and all the best to you!

It’s your attention to detail that’s so impressive, and that’s just the intro’. Superb. . .
Haha, thanks very much, KV, very kind of you to say! I’m really glad that you enjoyed the video. Cheers for watching and all the best : )
The DC3 (with the Duckworks mod) is a very nice option for the sim also though and so far I’ve managed to keep all 3 wheels on the aircraft XD
I’m glad that your days at Burnaston (amongst other things I’m sure), inspired your to reach for the skies; gliding is such a wonderful way to fly.
Not at all CC, my absolute pleasure! I look forward to reading about your Chippy / gliding exploits, when I get a moment : )
Cheers!
As usual a Spot on Video Thank You Something about vintage aeroplane videos from The UK makes it a good watch .
Thanks for the sub / like and even more so, thank you very much for your kind words - much appreciated : )
Cheers and all the best!
The standard one wasn't too bad visually either. Not bad for a free aircraft as part of the package. But the upgrade just gives that little extra.
Love the radio traffic, they sound soooo British 😃
Super video! An excellent and immersive look at a timeless classic. I agree, the mod has lifted an excellent effort to almost study level.
Thanks very much, John. I’m really glad that you enjoyed the video and indeed, that you’re enjoying the Duckworks mod!
Happy flying and all the best : )
Another great production, the DC3 is a joy to fly. One of my favourites in the sim.
Do you have a VR headset? Flying the DC3 in VR is AMAZING.
Thanks very much, Speedlime! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and indeed, that you’re enjoying the DC3 - the aircraft is a pleasure to fly in MSFS.
Happy flying and all the best! : )
As of 1992, EGDB was turned into a Toyota car factory, and so is, unfortunately, defunct.
Indeed Dave, sadly. I had to use a little bit of “artistic licence” for the video haha ; )
Cheers, all the best!
I love that old ATC background noise.
Cheers, SS! I’m glad you enjoyed the effect - ATC from a more civilised time haha ; )

That was a real pleasure to watch, thank you for another great flight in this wonderful old aircraft.
Thanks very much, Terry! I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight / this little trip back in time ; )
Much appreciated, as always. Cheers!
Another story for the memoirs by the sounds of it ; )
Thanks for sharing and all the best!
its videos like this is why I love flying old birds, well done sir
Thanks very much, LAX Rider! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and I’m happy to hear that you enjoy some vintage aviation within the sim also : )
Cheers and all the best!
Curious on wanting to know what the point of the altitude limit switch is used for exactly?
Great mod. Before that, the DC-3 was so-so.
Indeed Rico, the Duckworks mod is a really nice upgrade for the DC3! Cheers : )
Love this plane...I have all the routes for the hump and im busy flying those atm...Great aircraft
Nice video mate 👌
Hi Jep,
Nice. That sounds like a great (and challenging) way to spend some time with the DC3!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Happy flying and all the best to you : )
I’ll have to get the Duckworks mod and British Midlands livery. Another great video! Thank you.
The Duckworks mod is certainly well worth a try, Snowy and please do give the Midland livery a go, if you feel so inclined : )
I’m really glad you enjoyed the video - my pleasure. Happy flying and all the best!
Beautiful flight, thanks for sharing it. A beautiful old bird!
My pleasure, Roland, I’m glad you enjoyed the old gal! Thanks very much for watching and all the best : )
Good informative vid. Thank you. Gorgeous livery... Is the duckworks addon worth it. Does it make much difference
Thanks very much, David! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and indeed the livery ; )
The Duckworks mod is well worth it!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank you
You’re most welcome, David! : )
Merci pour ces belles vidéos et votre aide pour la connaissance et la maîtrise de ces beaux oiseaux sur notre simulateur préféré 👍👍👍
Hello,
Did you give a try to another DC-3 mod?
I'm thinking here about the MGouge425 one which gets regular updates.
How are you getting Track IR to be so smooth? When I look down my viewpoint pivot (head) goes up?
Hi MrWguts,
Well, much of it comes down to the TrackIR profile and in your particular case, it sounds like setup may be an issue also.
And... Amazing plane and so vintage style, love it !
Hi Benjamin,
I’m glad you enjoyed the little trip back in time! The DC3 is indeed an iconic and amazing aircraft : )

My late mother flew from Ringway to Jersey in a DC3 in the early 1950s. Must have been Jersey Airways.
Very nice, ZK. I would imagine, that experience would have been a whole lot more pleasant, than your average domestic LoCo flight today haha ; )
I was just saying to someone else, that I’ve never really associated the DC3 with the UK, but I’ve no idea why, since plenty of them were being operated by British airlines back in the day (it’s just that it was before my time I suppose).
Thanks for sharing and all the best : )

@@IntotheBlueSimulations Got some great Liveries there, even a US Army one, but I kinda like the one from the film 'The Thing from another World.' With the Tropical Tilly pinup on her nose.
That's not Burnaston Aerodrome, that's long gone sadly (now a huge Toyota factory). That's Derby Airfield, which is just a few miles down the road, on the other side of the village Etwall. It was built to replace Burnaston.
Correct, Ollie. Nobody has modelled Burnaston aerodrome for MSFS though, so I had to use a little bit of “artistic licence” haha ; )
Cheers, all the best! : )
Does this mod retain the CFD aspects of the original or is it using the legacy flight model?
Good question, Chrshv. To be honest, I’m not really sure. Given the nature of the mod, I would suspect that Duckworks has built on what is already there, rather than reverting to a less complex flight model.
Sorry I can’t offer more insight. Cheers and all the best : )
Fantastic planes
Nice flight. Learned a lot.

What's the music at the 32m mark?
(Also I just downloaded the livery and duck works and I'm so happy with it it's so fun!)
Hi SM,
I’m really sorry but, I can’t recall the name of the piece of music. It would have come from either the RUclips audio library, or otherwise from some sort of 1930’s ish playlist. Apologies that I can’t be of more help on that one.

Where did you find the data for the fuel burn of the dc3?
Hi Arroz,
I used Simbrief (a free, online flight planning tool) and had the program auto-calculate the required fuel uplift for me. Otherwise though, I’m sure there’s plenty of data floating around online re the DC3’s fuel burn - it wouldn’t be too hard to calculate the numbers for yourself, should you so wish : )
I hope that helps a little. All the best!
Very nice flight in a gem of an aircraft. Love that drone.
Many thanks, Pythos, I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight! Thanks for watching and all the best : )
Hi SB,
Personally, I don’t have much time in the sim with the DC3 (so I’m not best placed to be giving advice), but WhiteHawk’s suggestions sound like the way to go.
Can someone tell me the required altitude for changing the supercharger speed?
Hi RF,
I’m afraid, I don’t know the specific altitude but, a good time to switch over would be when you’re at full throttle and can no longer maintain the desired manifold pressure (be sure to reduce MP, before engaging the blower / supercharger, otherwise you might overboost the engine!). I seem to recall that on the default DC3, the superchargers are “locked out” / automatic; I can’t remember whether or not operation is modelled on the Duckworks mod.
I hope that helps a little. All the best!
The blowers work on Duckworth mod and yes engage them when you can't maintain your desired MP. I usually just do it at 6000 ft.
great to see, that you fly oldschool aircrafts. do you fly actual status of the redwings constellation in future? not much gameplay of this beauty :(
Many thanks Mirko, I’m glad you enjoyed the flight!
I use the original with hap Arnold giving a introduction
Hi ML,
I’m using a checklist that I found over on Flightsim.to - it seems to have been specifically written up for the Duckworks mod.

Hello Fabian,
Thanks very much, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video!

Tricky takeoff!
Haha indeed, Jeremy. I don’t know who thought it would be a good idea, putting a pylon there! XD
Amazing video. You are the MsFS equivalent of GPLaps. One question, how did you get the background ATC chatter?
Haha, well this has to be one of my favourite comments to date! I very much enjoy GPLaps content and he is a master of creating the right ambiance within his videos. I only wish I shared his dulcet commentary style XD
The background ATC comes from real world recordings, which I have then edited into the video. There is an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after (though it won’t be period correct of course haha).
Thanks very much for the kind words! Much appreciated and all the best : )

Thanks very much, Pesawatku! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video : )
how the f does your dc-3 not try to veer off the runway as soon as you have wheels down? Mine, also ducks works, has a mind of its own after touchdown
Hi Belevezero,
Haha, yeah. The MSFS DC3 is pretty skitterish to say the least. I had the same issues and was dancing all over the pedals like a madman during that landing ; )
Locking the tailwheel certainly helps and landing as slow as possible seems to mitigate the behaviour a little bit also, but like most taildraggers in the sim, the DC3 could use some more work (although to be fair, I think the behaviour is caused by sim limitations, as much as anything).
Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one. All the best! : )
That comm's unit....that wasn't era correct was it?
It doesn’t look to be Tryst, no. Although, I suppose in fairness to Aeroplane Heaven, it isn’t stated exactly what era of DC3 they were intending to model, so the radios could have been hypothetically “retrofitted” (but then it would have been nice to see a few more mod cons also - a dme for example).
Cheers, all the best : )
Duckworths advanced autopilot is bugged! Either it is that or there is some conflict with my third party payware installs...no freeware other then skins!
Hi Filipe,
I didn’t notice any obvious bugs myself (though I’m by no means an expert when it comes to the Sperry). What’s the issue that you’re having?

is this a mod scenery? Love the gathering of DC-3s
Hi Mr Sunlander,
It is indeed.
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Well, it looked smashing, anyway. Cheers!
Nice.
I will have to get this. I enjoy the DC3 but the stock version was a little disappointing. I wouldn't mind knowing the procedures for the supercharger(s). Could it have been used on takeoff and that near meet with power lines? :P
Hi Mercury,
If you’re fan of the DC3, I’m sure you’ll really enjoy the Duckworks mod!
I believe the blowers / superchargers are used to maintain manifold pressure at altitude; they’re locked out on the default DC3, but I seem to recall that they do function on the Duckworks mod. I don’t think the blowers would have been much use in this particular case, as I was already running the engines up at max manifold pressure for the takeoff (presumably, that power line wasn’t there back in the day haha ; )
I hope that clarifies things a little?
Nice historically eh!
Indeed, Ken: The DC3 is an absolute icon and it’s nice to be able to take a little trip down memory lane in the sim ; )
Cheers and all the best!
Missed tailwheel lock on take off ?
Hi Doremy,
Well yes, but intentionally. As I explained during the video, I opted not to use the tailwheel lock, as it is so buried away under the centre console and therefore virtual impossible to operate. In hindsight, I should have just assigned a keybind, but that didn’t occur to me at the time ; )
I hope that clarifies things. All the best! : )
Does this mod work with MSFS on an Xbox pass too?
Hi Huig,
If you’re running on PC, the mod should work just fine (it’s free so, no harm in giving it a go : ) The DuckWorks mod isn’t available on the console though, no.
I hope that helps. All the best!
is there not any dme in this plane lol
I don’t believe there is, HJ. At least, not on the classic version of the DC3; the GNS530 version has a DME, courtesy of the GNS unit.
All the best!
My Dad is from Darley Dale.
Haha well there you go, Andrew! Did your father know that he has his own plane? ; )
I hope you’re both keeping well! All the best : )
Ι have problem with instal
Hello John,
I’d be happy to try and offer up some help, but I’m afraid I’m going to need a little bit more to go off than that haha ; )
What exactly is the issue?
unfortunately the flight model is quite ok but the ground handling is poor, it needs modifications that can be done only if you know which values in the flight model need how much adjusting.
