Love how the interviewer claims he's played POE, and it "never really grabbed him", then is totally shocked by the passive tree, proving he never touched this game before.
Or he never got past the 1st level which is quite hard.

It shouldn't be that surprising, before getting back into it I only made it to level 5 and never looked at the entirety of the tree and did not realize you could zoom out, getting back into it noticing how large the tree was is part of what kept me playing

I interpreted his questions and reactions as if he was attempting to grab the attention of people who may have felt those feelings about the game in the past. POE has changed a lot throughout the years, especially in ways that help new players during their start through end game.
I've played this game for 4 years, I honestly recommend giving it a go.
You'll die frequently on your first few attempts but don't let that discourage you.

Well premium stash tab is really pushing that PayToWin mechanic. If you have premium stash you have so much more power in game compared to ones without. But to be fair. You ALWAYS can buy stuff from market. You just can sell without dashing some ducks.
its not pay2win at all, the only thing it does is save time and make it easier to know what u have, i played the game for 6 months before buying one cause i knew i was gonna play the game a lot more. and within those nooby 6 months i managed fine without it, just gotta know what to keep, whats bad with the stash tabs u have. which u do learn to use properly later.
Had several lvl 100 characters on temp leagues in hc even when i was only at 4stash tabs. your point is moot.
A great example of a f2p game done right? You do realize this game has addicted a large amount of its player base to spend thousands of dollars over time, right?
This game captures Diablo 2's feel far better than Diablo 3. Its also more complex especially when it comes down to build variety.
also unlike d2, PoE has an amazing endgame which hopefully will become even more amazing with this new expansion.
You should try Path of Diablo.
build variety? there is always meta builds - in both games. And most peoples just copy other peoples build in poe then their progress is reseted when the season ends. Poe has an illusion of depth and progress.
Then stop playing by guides and make your own build?
I see this complaint all the time and there is a reason why you have to go to forums, 3rd paraty websites or even 3rd party programs in order to find those builds.
You shouldnt be building after builds; you should take the knowledge of how game mechanics work from reading and playing some of those builds to put it through your own creative meatgrinder.
Except progress isn't reset. You can continue playing with the same character in the respective persistent league once the seasonal one ends. No character is lost - they are merely ported elsewhere - it's your choice to keep playing them.
As for depth, meta slaves will be meta slaves no matter which game you play. PoE actually gives you countless choices to fine tune your build according to necessity - If you think they're shallow, you've become completely jaded to the genre.
I highly reccomend this game, it's completely free and it's comparable to Diablo 3 or better.

It's far superior to Diablo 3 if you're looking for something more depth than casual fun.
Im really looking for a game willing to grind heavy but just wanted to know is it worth investing lots of time into it.
Good thing about it is you get rewarded for grinding hardcore, but you can complete all content with a casual couple of hours per work. The amount of time you spend directly corresponds to your in-game reward.

It took four years and repeated attempts to level a character past the thirties, but I finally became hooked to the game. Love rerolling and trying new builds, theorycrafting with my quad tabs of uniques and trying to push the hardest maps.
9.5/10 - definitely the best ARPG of today. This coming from a player of Diablo, Diablo 2, Diablo 3, Torchlight, and all the other competitors of the genre.
torchlight series had so much potential. its just sad that it was discontinued.

How does this guy have a job doing interviews?? He mentions diablo in this video enough times to make me question whether he was promoting d3 or poe.
To be fair, D3 is kind of the "big popular game" that most people will likely compare it to, so asking stuff like "diablo does this, how is poe different?" isn't a bad question for people who might not have heard of it before.
That is fair game, but showing no preparation and no research at all is borderline disrespectfull. And comparing it to Destiny because "im playing it atm"... Cringeworthy.
I think the interview is better with no real research, he is asking the questions that anyone who has only played D3 would ask, which is where most new players are going to migrate from.
It seemed like the interviewer wanted to make poe sound appealing to people who play more mainstream games, because viewers will have probably played d3 or Destiny before. That being said, I don't like it when people describe games using other games. I think they should point out similarities but put a main focus on the differences. Which the interviewer did actually attempt to do in asking questions like "What makes this different from Diablo 3?" and "Why would a person like me, who plays games like _______, want to play this game?"
He actually did a pretty good job with the interview. These are the questions I get asked when I'm introducing PoE to my friends who play aRPGs, as all of them has played either D2 or D3. I will now refer them to this video, as Chris did a good job explaining the gist of the game. (I love the part where he demonstrated how Support Gems works. It was what drew me to PoE at first, and I'm hoping it'll do the same for others that I show this video to.)

It's technically a passive tree, the skills are gems that you socket into your gear.
The passive tree gives bonuses like % increases to damage, attack and cast speed, movement speed, life, mana, crit chance, block chance, dodge chance, evasion, armour and energy shield along with some build enabling keystones that change up the way certain mechanics work (like instant leech but no life regen)
Braulio Castillo Skill forest seems to be the appropriate term for it
I like to call it the Tree of Yggdraskill.
Most of it are just simple stat upgrades, nothing special.

I played d2 all my childhood and I played D3 for past 4-5 years since release , but this reminds me of diablo 2 ( which is my favorite game of all time ) can any veteran of POE tell me if this is worth playing since diablo 3 got boring now and stale , I want to know if I come in as new guy will I be much behind the rest and how is community toxic or helpful ?
I was bored with D3 before I killed Diablo. I solo PoE so I can't say on some aspects in terms of community, but there is a good RUclips community for learning the game and while I wish I had more time to devote to the game, it has been one of my favorites. Not to say it doesn't have flaws, ie "Lab," but there is too much good to not kind of ignore the bad. It has improved a lot since beta which if nothing else means the developers is passionate about it. FYI, the devs are open about this being more of a hardcore take on the genre. RNG means you can die no matter what and crafting things can be bit of a pain. Again, it is much more newbie friendly than what beta was.
probably the most friendly community you've ever experienced, plus there is a tonn of interesting and challenging content for free. This game is so good that you'll want to support devs by yourself, and buy few mtxs here and there.

I get that this is a joke, but it's seriously not funny. They draw their players in with a f2p model, only to slowly drain them of hundreds or even thousands of dollars once their hooked because without spending money, by the end of the game you still look like a peasant douchebag.

To me, this game is like what Dota2 is to LoL, a more complicated version, if you have played diablo 3 you can easily adjust to the controls and the general gameplay. However, the passive skills and gems are where it gets complicated, the best thing however is that people are constantly creating new builds and making guides for them so, if you are new, or just want to try something interesting, scroll through the path of exile forums and find something you like and simply follow it. This way you don't have to worry about the passive tree and just focus on killing, looting, and levelling up.
Also the most interesting thing I find about this game is the currency, it is traded as 'currency' but all the currency items are usable and give various effects towards your items.
Honestly one of the best games on Xbox one and it's free ...
Definitely on the top when it comes to longevity!

Microtransactions aren't purely cosmetic - there are also stash tabs, which are basically a must as long as you get fa enough into the game, because the 4 tabs you get will get easily filled even if you get rid of the less valuable stuff

eskoturn5000 haha not sure where you have your intos from mate but Xbox isn't even close to taking anything over this generation. There wasn't a single exclusive game on the Xbox this year... and the ones announced aren't the biggest ones anticipated. The only thing giving the Xbox a slight boost right now is pubg. But that'll die off as the Xbox version is a broken mess. If anything is killing it in sales right now that's the switch, but that somewhat of a different market. So no worries, playstation still dominates sales nd will continue to do so in the coming years

I love hearing the reactions of people that never played PoE before and first see the skill tree. I adore PoE and have converted several of my friends but I will not even remotely claim the game is easy to get into. I brought in friends that were well versed in Diablo 2 & 3 as well as TitanQuest and Grim Dawn which are a step higher than Diablo in complexity. But PoE is a whole other tier with so many mechanics to try and wrap your brain around on first contact. It's hugely rewarding if you stick with it and you will quickly learn how to understand the skill tree but it's no doubt overwhelming at first glance. I just told my friends "be comfortable in the fact your first character may turn out garbage while you learn. It's part of the learning process."

I like what PoE achieved (and already supported them quite a bit) but not saying that the currency tab is a must and pay2win is a lie. It makes an huge difference to play with and without one of them, it's a different game at 100%.
They are introducing a re-vamped Trade feature within the game (Soon to be announced). With that, There would be no need to buy Premium tabs.

im supporting the release of Wolcen. Its got the design customizability of PoE, with the polished gameplay of D3. a good combination of them. its in Alpha right now, but playing it on early access has been the most fun ive had on an ARPG since D2's release.
As a PoE veteran all I can say is if your looking to get into PoE is that it is hands down the best ARPG dungeon crawler currently on the market right now IMO, period. But, it is a difficult game to get into as it is incredibly complex and learning all the game mechanics/interactions will take a good amount of play time and experience. The build variety, item diversity, economic system, loot and crafting system is amazing and once you gain a fair understanding of the game it is one you can sink thousands of hours into easily. PoE is well worth the time investment to get into it and although PoE has its issues like any other game the dev team is constantly putting in patches and new content on a regular basis that make you come back to the game every league/update.

yeah the stash tap doesn't effect gameplay yes this game is 100% free to play
i don't think that you will ever need an extension on stash tap if you are a casual gamer. And if you play the game way to much it will only help you on organaizing not to be better and win.
I bought stash tabs because of conveniance and supporting the devs but I could definitely get to lvl 100 just using the 4 free tabs its definitely not necessary
It also depends how many alts you like to play: the stash is shared with your entire account. If you're a casual player who only plays 1 character per league, you'll be fine. If you get into the game a bit deeper, or like rolling alts, the extra tabs start to look very attractive. Keep in mind you can buy a set of tabs for something like $5 or $7.50 or something, so if you're in the game for the long haul I don't see dropping a days lunch money on it to be a big deal (I've bought some tabs, for quality of life, etc).
While you do not need the stash tabs, they make things soooo convenient, especially the currency tab.

This is an excellent game, the customisations have an enormous amount of depth and the skill tree is unlike anything else. Not to mention the 100% f2p model with cosmetics only micro transactions. If you haven't tried it out yet, I highly encourage you to do so.
I used to love doing the PoE races so much fun im downloading it now to give all the new stuff a go. havent played for a long time but i played closed beta.
the game is great and monetarisation is fine aswell. beware you have to spend money if you want to trade with other players trough 3rd party databases.
And by money he means 4$ for a Premium tab, or less if it is on sale (which happens frequently). Or 1.5$ if you upgrade one of your 4 starting tabs. Just wanted to mention it before people get turned away by "spend money".
Also you can work it out without spending money. Its just harder then.
You can still publicly trade for free by using 3rd party software that posts sales for you.
I played for almost a year without spending $$$, and I still really enjoyed the game.

Verthurnax 91, after recent 10-act expansion it's good for everyone. Storyline is rich and complete, while endgame is still interesting and rewarding if you like a long run. Everyone's a winner.

You won't use them. Haha it's more of convenience thing if you want to bind them to open your inv and skill tree.
I tried the game a while ago, it was fun, but every once in a while I would make a wrong turn on the skill tree and regretted it later... is there anyway reset maybe the last 1 or 5 or whatever skills placed?

if you have no plan of this game, you have no chance to start it. way to complicated. i tried it and got tired of it cause i had no clue how to skill my charakter, how to play the endgame, what farm and so on
cuz you are lazy... you are not willing to learn obviously.. there is insane amount of things you have to learn to be able to play the game properly.. its not for everyone!

I wouldnt call Stash Tabs a "purely Cosmetic" Purchase.
Especially since its pretty Hard if you really want to get into the Game without Purchasing a few or atleast a Currency Stash Tab.

Give a non-premium currency tab and a trade/premium tab and it's good, I would buy more even after they give me them.
I started playing this game since OBT and played with just the default tabs til then with acquisition. I guess its pretty annoying but its actually pretty doable if you just intend to play the game and not go path of trading.
Like- i was pretty bad at Anarchy but starting from Essence to Legacy league i've been having 34-40/40 achievements with just 3 tabs with pretty good gear enough to farm Shaper and Uber Atiziri. But yes it is tedious and i get your point lmfao.
I decided to dish out money on Harbinger league and bought stash tabs and holy hell the game became even more easy since i dont have to play currency tetris. But honestly what you really just need is 1 currency tab and 1 premium tab and you're all set and if you cant afford that or don't want to, It probably means you haven't played the game enough yet so for like 15$ for currency tab + premium tab that's pretty much what you need.

Except nearly every attack skill build on the highest level utilises VP as defence. This changes the meta dramatically. So when you say "no skill noobs", you're calling the best POE players all noobs.

I'm very glad he mentioned the amazing community that contributes so much to the POE experience. It's definitely the only reason that I continued to play the game after being frustrated by getting zero help on wtf is going on in the game 100 times over. People like ZiggyD, LiftingNerdBro, Pohx and Zizaran help this game stay alive imo.

you can hit endgame in a couple of hours, the whole purpose of these types of games is to grind for your gear and improve your character d3 just hands everything to you pretty much..
i have put over a thousand hours in this game, but i still feel like there is more to learn. if you are looking for a game to truely improve in this is one of the best. also as chris said its free, so what do you have to loose. its easy to get started even if you dont do well making your first character its easy to make another that is better.

Can't play this game - tried 3 times by now...
1st - animation are horrible, they haven't improved them since they released the game.
2nd - it's unacceptable to have a talent tree so big and not be allowed to change it at will without farming for extra items of trade for them - which brings me to the 3rd point..
3rd - unusable trade system... you have to watch a video tutorial on youtube to learn to trade and every video warns you about scammers...
This game is to much work to be a game...

Game isnt for casual scrubs like you that cant plan something out or be bothered to play more than one version of the same hero , thats ok but those of us that do support it dont want to see it watered down the way you would like it to be.
A PvE game its not really challenging... to be the best in it usually resumes to time, time I don't have to waste on a half finished game. I enjoy testing builds and making my own builds, but I don't have the time to farm the reset tokens to do so - i want to play the game, not farm things that are standard in today's games.
Because you have the time to waste on such things doesn't make you better then me, it just makes you dumb.
There are a lot more things to say, but I think you are the wrong person to tell them to - u r to tribal to understand.

How do you shoot mobs and not walk towards them every time you miss bc I’m always shooting at them then I miss and it assumes I’m wanting to walk to the place I clicked in the middle of the mobs.
Just got into this about a week ago Definitely a Awesome game. I didn't find the beging boring or hard as most comments suggest its free & a very good game two thumbs up from me i recommend it

I’m a PS4 owner I just got my xbox one s like a week ago & I bought a 4tb external hard drive today. I just downloaded this game it plays & looks great plus it’s free what’s not to love. if this gets a PS4 version I’ll download it again but I need to buy another 4tb external hard drive 😎

I have this on Xbox One X. I really am enjoying the game so far. Is there matchmaking though? I don't know anyone else that has a Xbox and plays this.

Could someone tell me something about the strategy in this game when it comes to fighting mobs? Is it just the skill tree and items that make things interesting? Or do mobs have mechanics you have to deal with at some point. It seems kinda faceroll in the vid

Honestly PoE at its most fun when build diversity was immense was pre 3.0 without a doubt.
The game itself is definitely growing at a crazy rate with a good amount of content every 3-4 months. It’s fun to play even though tons of builds aren’t that viable anymore.
Nah, Right now the Build Diversity is at its highest. Back then, Only a few builds worked. Compared to before, There are now probably 50+ META Builds compared to 3 or 5 in the past.
The main difference between POE and D3 is that D3 is extremely easy to get to farming end game gear - a matter of days for starting for the first time - while POE will take you a good chunk of time to get used to builds, mechanics, passive tree, pantheon, the atlas, and getting the feel of what you want to do in the end.
i used to play this game alot..its a very good game..but i had to stop because of my crappy laptop..but now i got a new rig..just downloaded it..im excited to start again tomorrow..i hope i can retrieve my old account..

I had no idea this game was free. I'd only ever heard of it, but never watched a gameplay or looked into it. I've gotta try it now-- I love Diablo 3. Is it available for download on Xbox One as well?
PS4 user here. I know this is an amazing game and I have played it on PC and given the company quite a bit of money and probably will if I get an Xbox one. Knowing that we may never see this one ps4, I will probably just have to get an Xbox. Can I get this game right away or is it in like invite only stage? How is the game running so far? Plagued with D/C's or lag?
Currently there are engine limitations. But they might port it to ps4 also.
From a professional standpoint, Chris handled this interview quite well, despite Josh comparing PoE to Diablo a bit more than he should have.
