    All good tips. Another sign to look for is boiling at running temps. If the fluid boils just above normal operation then you have a pressure leak. Fluid under pressure raises the boiling temperature closer to the red mark on the gauge, if it boils against the block then you get air. Air won't cool the block once it starts boiling, so the problem quickly cascades if you notice it happens very fast rather than a gradual overheat, this is likely the issue.. This is caused by a bad radiator cap or broken seal in the system, such as a head gasket or intake manifold gasket. Check the oil and spark plugs for signs of radiator fluid.
    Overheating can also induce these failures and may not be the root cause of the original overheating problem. Check the radiator for rust, it may need flushed. Water wetter will thin the surface tension of the coolant, helping it cool the water jackets in the block.

I am stilling having the overheating issues took it to the dealership and other places. Fixed what they said was the problems which is the list above, still can't resolve the issue at hand car stay from overheating if AC or Heater is on once the temp gets to half it will overflow, any suggestions on what maybe my car problem?

    Plugged up ac condenser is the issue. I worked at dodge and this is a common issue especially in my area because of the fluff from the trees. Just separate the rad and condenser and wash out the condenser with a low pressure hose . It's best practices to do the sane with the rad at the same time . No parts cost just time

    After wrecking my 1995 Nissan pickup I replaced my radiator and various other parts. After getting it out of the body shop the truck started overheating.Went to the mechanic; the mechanic replaced my cooling fan clutch. But it was still running hot but not overheating.So I talked to another mechanic and he checked the coolant in the radiator and found that it was only half full.After adding radiator fluid (prestone)the truck runs great!

    GOD BLESS YOU!!!!! Thank you SO SO MUCH for getting on this for me! In my GUT OF GUTS, I've been continually "thinking" that there's SOMETHING wrong with the radiator....ON THE INSIDE. I brought this to my mechanics attention, but he tried to assure me that I'm getting "proper flow"....I say "BULL SHIT". My car has NEVER run hot...EVER. I know it's getting "old", but I put alot of time and money into this car to keep it running TIP TOP. The very second I hear something that's not right, I go get that checked, and fixed. I never wait until it becomes yet ANOTHER ISSUE caused by the OTHER ISSUE. I was so tempted to just go ahead and purchase a NEW radiator, and get that installed....even it's for "shits and giggles", just to see if that would STOP THIS PROBLEM. Like I had said, as long as I DO NOT turn on the A/C, I'm all good. After I made the mechanic burp the system several times, it's getting a little better now. When I turn on the A/C, it takes a few minutes to for that needle to begin that SLOW climb upwards, but I don't let get too far and go ahead and shut down the a/c, and see if it will go back to "normal" by itself. SOMETIMES, it will....but sometimes, it needs just LITTLE BIT OF HELP by turning on the heater and forcing it back to normal. I have EXTREMELY HOT air that comes through my vents into the car when I do this, but I just put the windows down to deal with it. Once the car is back to normal temp, I cut the heat off and I'm good.

    I have an 07 Mountaineer. I drove it for almost 7 months no over heating... I filled the AC up with freon and the AC started working great. Within 2 days I started having over heating. Only happens when run the AC and only when ac is running and I am going over 40mph if I stay going slow it don't over heat. Being an amateur home mechanic, the best I can figure is either my condenser fan isn't working or my compressor is going out and causing significant drag on the motor causing this. Other than that I'm at a loss. I don't have much experience in AC repair unfortunately.

    I just replaced the Radiator in my 08 PT myself. Was leaking where the alluminum met the plastic on top. Bought a new readiator, hoses, and clamps, lifted the car up on one of them drive up stands or whatever they're called and disassembled the whole front. I'm not mechanically inclined so it took me 4 hours to change it all but finally got it done. Filled it up, Bleed the system, let run to temp, had a OBD on it to monitor temps, once it reached 100c, I shut it off. Heard some boiling and went out and bought a new thermostat. One that opens up at 180F instead of 195f. Which is all Autozone had in stock. Lo and behold, everything is normal again.
    When I first got it all together, I suspected my water pump because the top hose was warm but the bottom was cold. (But I had heat) But, it was the thermostat stuck closed. Probably from sitting for 6 months during winter. Thankfully the water pump was not the issue. Where the job is tedious and annoying and mildly frustrating, it was easy enough to do yourself. Few RUclips videos on how to do it too which is what i followed. Saved me $250-$350 in labor. Happy to have done that.
    Now, with the radiator done, new Coil Pack, Plug Wires and NGK spark plugs, my PT is now ready to be sold to a new owner. Sadly selling one of my 2 PT's to get a Ford Escape. But, for anyone who needs a new radiator, save some money, devote a few hours and change it yourself. Bleed the system through the bleed valve or you can purge/burp the system using a radiator burp kit you can find online or in-store if its in stock. Worth the time and hassle to save $250+. In my opinion at least it is worth it.

    I went back and listened really close to this video again. You said in one point, that it COULD BE a warped head by it overheating BAD....but It's NEVER gone to that level. I've never allowed it to. The moment I see it getting about 2 needles width above the normal, I shut down the a/c...and turn on the heater. The only time it was 3/4 of the way up was that one time, a few weeks ago, but it still was not into the HOT ZONE yet....thank God! LOL

    • @OnlineMechanicTips
      @OnlineMechanicTips  6 лет назад

      Well knowing that is assuring but it really doesnt take much to warp an aluminum cyl head..But if your radiator not partially clogged or allowing coolant to properly flow like it should, then that combustion test should be perform.. Get your radiator checked/replaced and go from there..But from all my years of working on these cars concerning overheating, all the very last repairs that was done ended up with a cyl head,..Hope thats not your problem but it very well could be..Good luck buddy

      Thanks so much! I'm praying that it's only the radiator...and not the bigger of the evils. Like I said...I have no milkiness in my oil and no white smoke either...so I'm hoping it's the radiator.

    • @malakai713
      @malakai713 5 лет назад +2

      I'm having the same problem. 1st overheat today, with none prior, so overheating should not have caused the warped cylinder head prior to today. If pump, thermo, and fan are working, it must be the radiator I guess. It's confusing though, because: if it's a partially clogged radiator, why does it only happen with the a/c on?
      Liked, subscribed, and a member of E's notification coalition 8^D
      EDIT: going to get the codes and make sure my low speed isn't out on the fan. I'm 99% sure I had no overheating g before today, and my test drive just confirmed absolutely no heat problem with a/c off. So to repeat myself I guess, why does it only happen with the air on? So weird. But I got this car in good shape with 60K on a '06, for a G! One single G! Could have bargained but it was family. Still, worth fixing and getting all I can out of her.

    • @OnlineMechanicTips
      @OnlineMechanicTips  5 лет назад +1

      An 06 PT with 60k not bad at all..Buddy that low speed fan should kick on no later than at least 20 seconds after the compressor kick on..But you doing right to get fan checked cause this will def cause your problem..Unless your compressor pulling an excessive amount of current from your engine causing it to overheat, your problem most likely caused by the cooling sys such as a radiator flow problem.

    The AC runs the Fan assembly at HIGH RPM (by Fan Relay #2) to draw airflow through the condenser and the radiator, simultaneously. The Fan has 1 motor & 3 wires. Low input, High input and Ground. Lots of times, the High input fails. Cars like this have ZERO airflow below 35 miles per hour. Use scan tool, repeatedly turn on low and then High Fan with Scan tool under "Output / Relay Tests". If you activate the High Fan relay and NOTHING HAPPENS... Replace Fan assembly and BOTH RELAYS. There is a BIG issue with 1 fan vehicles doing this exact same issue. Overheats at low speeds/ Idle, with AC on. Hope this helps. There is a TSB on this exact same issue, too. GM, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Infinity, Toyota...ETC... You name it. 👍😎

    Engine overheating with A/C on could also be a clogged A/C condenser or failing A/C compressor too. The failing AC system could be putting strain on the engine since the A/C system and engine cooling system are directly related to each other..

      Yes, suggestion is to start the diagnosis properly. Im not gonna just throw a part at you and advise that you replace it because diagnosis hasnt been done. Now, from the top, start with the simple approach. Is the cooling system properly filled meaning free of any air pockets? (was it bled) From there move on to the next stage, are your cooling fans running? you see where im going with this? guessing is a waste of money.
