    Mine is three years old and just started doing this. At first it was squeaking and grinding like a bearing was going out. A few loads later this noise. Since then I have researched the replacement item and can buy it for around $150. Thanks to you I will be doing it with a handyman coworker at my work. Our shop has all the tools.

    This is by far the best, to-the-point guide on replacing the transmission. Fixed for me, too. The most trouble I had was the unit's four bolt sizes for the transmission - not 3/8". I had to work with 10mm. Thanks for the great show!

    Ours doesn’t make noise while spinning like here…. Buuuuut, damn it makes a super hard knock at the end of spin cycle.. not sure what to do there. Just replaced the dogs in the agitator(noise is not new). I’m guessing it’s some sort of brake? If you have any ideas,I’d appreciate it.

    Excellent video. 9.9/10 just because I had a lot of trouble getting that plastic U-Clip back in the hub but i finally figured it out by shaving with a steak knife and whittling it down and then putting it all the way clicked in before I put the hub down over the transmission i had to force it down but after getting to the end of the job and spending over an hour just on that U-clip. (Last step) i was very relieved to see it was in, then i just tapped it back far enough to get the screw in that slot and I was able to tack it back into place.

    So if I don’t have the extra $175 available till next payday(not for two weeks) and I can deal with the loud noise, is it ok to use the washer??? Basically, is it just annoying but since I can deal with the freight train in my washroom, it’s ok to wash clothes??? Really appreciate anyone that helps with their knowledge!

      Eventually, the bearings will seize, and the drum will stop spinning (might also damage the tub seal/tub). Will that happen in two weeks? Probably not, but don't hold me to it, lol!

    • @cl219
      @cl219 2 дня назад

      If you have an older one chances are it just needs some grease around the basket drive where the brakes pads are located. That is IF it is a direct drive style whirlpool. You can unclip the pump off the motor, then drop the transmission with the motor still on it to get to the basket drive
