This Maytag Centinel washer is making a grinding noise during agitate. This repair can mirror a whirlpool washer as well. The wash plate or agitator was the culprit. The spline on the agitator where it connects to the transmission we’re stripped. I believe it stripped due to the coins that we found under the wash plate. The coins may have jammed the agitator so the transmission trying to spin it cause the spline to strip. The fix on this was changing out the wash plate. Changing out the agitator fix this.

@@TJ_775you need a new wash plate/agitator then. Just a few days ago I pulled coins out of mine but it still did it and the splines on my piece were completely worn down to nothing so it wasn’t able to grab the piece it connects to for it to spin. The piece itself is pretty cheap on Amazon. I spent $35 on an Amazon choice one because I’m not paying for a Whirlpool part when it’s about $100 and the same thing as the cheaper one. I’m about to put my new piece on now! Good luck!

Thank goodness! I have a top load whirlpool with the glass top and I really thought it was my washer gear case (motor that spins wash plate/agitator), and that piece is like $200! But I decided to try this piece first since it’s the cheapest and I’m about to install it. Mine is making the same nasty noise and won’t wash my clothes good and splines on my wash plate are also wore down. My washer also had coins 🙈. My husband decided to put some medical coban around the part the wash plate/agitator connects to and it started working normally for the first cycle so then I was certain it was the wash plate/agitator. Off to getting my short self to put the new piece in because I’m too impatient to wait on my husband to get home 😅. This video was VERY helpful!

Now I need to figure out how to clean the dryer for this same series I have. I've clean the dryer vent stack in the wall. I've tried to clean out the dryer itself as much as possible without taking the dryer apart. The check lint trap light keeps turning on. Plus AF ( I think that stands for air flow ).
Ugh, I'm sure it will be easy and in the end rewarding.

Thanks for this video! It looks like Maytag changed the design. Mine has a tall center shaft so first you need a ratchet extension of about 12”. Upon taking off the agitator, they’ve gone with a spindle with spline system that’s akin to bike 3pc crank and spindle. My washer’s about 4-1/2 years old, top load. I did find a broken zipper, maybe that was creating the squeal. Reassembling now and will test. If that didn’t solve it, then the next options start to become more of a hassle!

Thank you SO MUCH FOR YOUR video! Let me begin with, this washer has been a disappointment since we bought it! I've NEVER been happy with water levels (same on ALL settings), cleaning capabilities, lid lock feature, or wash times. The benefits of saving water only adds to use of more electricity, and those features are not a priority for me.
    MY ISSUE:
-app. 2 weeks ago, huge clumps of half dissolved/rinsed detergent on numerous items in load
-diagnostic test specified actuator error code
-replaced, test cycle, calibrated, no error code, BUT still much detergent residue
-cleaned ALL drain hoses and removed small nail from inside pump... Spins freely
-inlet filters clean, supply lines have good water pressure
-drain hose is in correct position
-ran washer on its CLEANING cyle
-calibrated, test cycle, result... Another detergent clumped load -repeated diagnostic/test.... new error code LID LOCK
    PLEASE HELP!
The owner's manual is useless, and we live in such a rural area, Jesus will return before we can get service/technician.

When you run the washer try running it with hot water. If your using pods they won’t resolve properly unless the water is a certain temperature. Also when you mention clumped up detergent it makes me thing it’s not getting enough water. Does it fill up properly? Using warm water is good for your machine helps keep it clean so when you can use hot or warm to help clean it out as it’s being used. I find many customers and I used to do this myself but I would only use cold water in everything. Even towels lol. Make sure you wash white in hot along with towels. Helps with everything cleaner clothes and washing machine.
Is that the only issue. The clumped up detergent? The codes may be confusing you. If it will fill, agitate, drain and spin. That’s all your washer really does.
My instincts tell me you have a fill problem. Great information for me to build on too to try and help.

I replaced my bearings that were shot. My stator is cracked but I reinstalled it. I reused the old shaft because the new shaft's skirt was too low and couldn't get the threads to show in the bottom after tightening the bearings x 3. When I compared it with the old shaft there was a 1/2 difference. So put it all back together and did first load with jeans and colors. All went great, very silent clothes came out all dry. The third load the machine was squeaking during spin and would throw the uL code even after I repositioned the clothes more than four times. What do you think is causing that? Cracked stator? Over tightened bearings?

Good video. I have been through several of these garbage washing machine over just a few years. I woke up this morning to find my machine doing this. I will replace this washplate and if anything else breaks it's going to be trashed just like the rest. Dvdn buying a transmission for one of these quickly makes it not worth fixing. Seems like all Lowe's sells anymore is disposable junk. I remember my first washer was the cheapest most basic one Sears had and I got 15 years of hard use out of it. Again thanks for your help.

Hope this helps. Mined didn't either after I replaced wash plate and thought I did something wrong. Not the case after all. Ran diagnostic for my actual machine and it gives you what it should sound if working correctly. Plus no fault codes came up! Whoo Hoo! Need to do run calibration test now.

Literally the part I needed help with taking that damn plate off and it was skipped. For future videos I suggest including the hard parts because that is where we are struggling as well.

    Hi.
    Good night.
I have a question the part I need to buy for the agitator is the one you let the link?

So should the wash plate move when it's working correctly or not? Mine is locked in place and won't move. My washer is making a moaning noise during the wash cycle with an occasional grinding noise. Not sure whether it's the wash plate or not. Thanks!

Interesting watch. You are very informative on this. I have no doubt I’ll be back if I have any washer or dryer problems. Where are you all out of?

Don't have this particular model, but the one I have is making this noise on the first load of the day. Guess I'll wait until the load gets done, and I empty the washer, I can do the agitator plate test. I was worried it was the transmission. Thanks.
