- 2023 Honda Civic Type R review by The Straight Pipes. The Honda Civic Type R is putting down 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque from a 2L 4 cylinder turbo. Formula 1 Team Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Sergio Checo Perez are most definitely subscribers of The Straight Pipes now. Thanks to Sergio Perez for being such a good dude. @@Tigerex966 nah. The fk8 ran the Nurburgring and suzuka circuit almost 10 seconds faster than the mk5 supra. It’s already more than 95% of the people buying it will be able to handle.

A racing driver once told me that when you hold a steering wheel you're having a conversation with the car, you need to caress it, and feel the resistance, the slip, the ABS. You're not trying to control it, force it. You want to talk with it.

He won't, maybe P2, redbull would be focused on getting some records with Max like most wins in a row or most wins in a season, getting a higher win percentage, setting records is more important for a team for future publcity

Looks like the engineers got a win with the reduced wheel size. I think it's great that Honda made that decision. What a fun and reliable car this would make.

I find this more attractive than the old gen it looks more cleaner and subtle which I like
A cleaner type r just makes it look like an accord with rice mods
I miss the wilder styling of the previous civic. new one looks good but a bit too tame
@@hornetkiller4 As an European I can't complain, we didn't get 2.0T Acccord in here but I always liked the styling, so I'm glad that the Type-R is a "grown up" car now

I was a huge fan of the FK8 design for the Honda Civic type R, it took me a while to get used to the new design for the civic hatchback really it's definitely starting to grow on me more especially with the type R look. Also the fact that you got to go on the the track with a professional F1 driver is actually cool and some thing you will never forget!
1st gen type r was soooo ugly, this one looks so much better and cleaner!!

This was amazing and I'm jealous. Getting to ride a long with an F1 driver that can fully push the car has to be a great experience and help you appreciate what the Type R can do.

That’s dope. Loved how. Checo took the time to take all these RUclipsrs around the track. Wish we could see more interaction from other teams as well. Redbull drivers are always doing this kind of stuff. Sad Mercedes and Lewis never really have time for this kind of content

$43,000 amazing vehicle. Got quoted $63,500 and $66,000 from 2 Honda dealers. I will happily keep my FK8. They're out of their minds
I do love the look of this car, it recaptures the 90's simplicity in the modern era
here i thought i dont need a car in the big city and then honda comes along with a great looking type R... still cannot get over the 1st time i testdrove the previous one, I always equate the driving of the type R to a train on tracks... just went into corners with like 100 km/h easily with no fear and thats when i fell in love ^^

As an owner of a MK5 Supra, I would break my neck seeing these cars on the road. Honda did a great Job overall, I really hoped for them to tweak the Exhaust noise a little bit more. Other than that, Honda did phenomenal on maturing the car compared to the last Gen.
@Mathew Long Sure, but if you look at the competitors: Veloster N, Golf R, and a couple of others all sound a lot better. Just food for thought.
I love the laid back conversation as if you are just running to the store for supplies and not hammering it on a race track.

$43,990 including destination... which just so happens to be $5 less than the Corolla GR Circuit Edition. Hmmm. Looks great! I like the more subtle look versus the last generation.
I wish I could get one at that asking price. I called my local dealer inquiring about the car and they told me if they get one it they are marking it up $15k over MSRP 😢

Current F1 is automated manuals. They haven't been stick shift since mid 90s. I doubt Perez ever raced a single seater true manual.

Gr Corolla. The Type R is faster car overall and a higher performance car. I have Type R, and this new one doesn’t interest me. These are all 35k range cars and this car has priced itself out of interest

This was an awesome review lol. I was hyped for the new CTR but it was great to see this perspective, especially with Max and Checo!
Honda's excellence and success with the Civic is just amazing. Normal Civic? The best option for a normal car, Civic Si and Civic Type R? Among the very best options of their classes, and not only are they fun, they are so usable and practical! I love Honda Civics so much! ❤️ Honda's consistency at delivering quality is comparable to The Staright Pipes' level of consistent quality!
The Corolla GR Core with the performance pack looks like the better buy by far if you want a fun everyday driver. The Civic looks like it’ll beat up your spine on any surface other than a smooth track. And that wing really needs to be optional.

Yeah, he was in race+ mode. I'd imagine it it will be as comfortable as previous one when in comfort mode. Really tough choice between this and Corolla GR. I think it might come down to availability for many. The AWD on Corolla GR is great, but the Type R has that that connected driving feel and gearbox and looks roomier and more refined.
Issue is currently he even said that it's not possible to turn off traction control while in comfort mode, hopefully that'll be fixed by release
@@retrograde11 we ended up getting my sister a hatchback corolla and man the usable cargo space on that thing is abysmal as a daily driver. So bad that I feel bad everytime I see her driving it. For that reason, Type R takes the cake for me. (No word on it over here in Alberta yet)
