  • Approach to landing during a brief intense rainstorm hitting the airport at Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada. Aircraft is a brand new Diamond DA42-VI twin diesel being ferried from Austria to Canada, and then to the US.
Aircraft is operating under temporary Austrian registry OE-UDK "Oscar Echo Uniform Delta Kilo" heard on the radio with ATC.
At the time of this video, aircraft was not yet equipped with satellite weather (a Garmin GDL69A XM satellite weather receiver) because the Sirius XM satellite signal footprint in North America does not extend to Europe where this aircraft was built (in Austria). Thus the pilots had no knowledge of localized weather phenomenon except for minimal radio reports.
Note the storm's wall cloud on the left side, normally associated with gust fronts and cumulonimbus. As the plane flew towards the airport the aircraft's Garmin G1000 was showing headwinds of 38 knots at a low 2000 feet. Yet the airport reported only minimal surface winds as the storm came through, and the aircraft fortunately experienced only heavy rain and sleet while making the landing.
