- Part 1: • DA42 Landing at Narsar...
Approach to a landing at Narsarsuaq, Greenland in a brand new Diamond DA42-VI twin diesel propeller aircraft on an unusually clear day, heading southwest after takeoff 4 hours earlier in Iceland - part of a ferry trip of the new aircraft from Austria to Canada, and ultimately to the US.
As this video begins, the aircraft is descending through 8,000 feet to begin the approach for landing. The airport is not yet visible, but requires "hanging a left at the 2nd glacier" for the visual approach into Narsarsuaq.
The co-pilot pulled the landing gear breaker to stop the annoying "gear up" beeping while the plane was diving with the engine throttles retarded -- and stuck a piece of paper between the throttles as a reminder! During the trip down the glacier, the aircraft is steeply descending at nearly 3000 fpm at airspeeds approaching 180 knots IAS (which is why the MAX SPEED warning is visible).
Narsarsuaq Airport is visible at the end of glacier valley.
Video taken with GoPro Hero2
Yes, my brand new aircraft being ferried to the US from Europe (Wiener Neustadt, Austria) where it was built. Very nice to fly with twin Austro (modified Mercedes A-class car engine) diesel engines and computerized engine controls. About 25 knots faster than the original Thielert-powered DA42 model, this is the first "dash six" DA42 in North America.
Great video, lovely landing and beautiful scenery
What.a.view.! Great footage.
Thank you for uploading this fantastic footage - how did you get the intercom and radio calls on the video?
With my contour camera it doesn't work, although I got all the cables I need...
I tried it the other day with my Contour+2 and it did not capture any audio from the intercom, but today (see video in my channel) it worked perfectly - probably wasn't patched in correctly.
So, are you still flying your "Dash Six"? I would love to fly one one day, I wonder how much different it is to a "Standard" NG, apart from the datasheet?
Used a GoPro 2 camera which has an audio input jack. I patched that into one of the aircraft headphone jacks.
Nice with the ocean is Icy. don't worry bout engine failures-
