You shoud do a video showing how to close it again. Removing the screen is hard but puting it back is a nightmare.

I've replaced a couple iPhone batteries with the adhesive. Not sure why they show you pulling the adhesive around the edges of the phone. I followed this on my first attempt and the adhesive broke and it was very difficult to pry the battery out. Don't do that if you can avoid it. I did cut the adhesive strips in the middle like they shown, but then just pull straight out slowly not letting the adhesive get caught on the close by pieces and don't let it tangle. Go slow and that seemed to work much better. Just pull straight out, not trying to wrap around the edges. A couple other things I learned was before adhering the new battery in do a couple dry runs with the new battery adhesive protector still on. The little battery clip that connects to the iPhone doesn't always line up just right. I found it easier to attach the battery connector to the iPhone first, then place the battery in place making sure to get it close to the top of the iPhone and pushed into the center away from the outer edge as much as possible.

The kit I bought to do this had me a little suspicious at first. I mean, €34,- for battery, tools, AND shipping? This can't be good. But it is! Quality tools! Plus extra screws! Helpful video! Nice smelling adhesives! What did we do to deserve your service?

"IF you were able to remove the battery strip successfully.." LOL. that's the crux right there! Almost broke my battery in pieces trying to mine them out after they broke.. difficult move, but made it. Thanks for the video!

Ever had the battery flap for the adhesive installed backwards? We did. Made for a fun disassembly.

  • @homiefromfl

My battery's adhesive strips didn't have the fold out glued to the front of the battery, rather it was folded just underneath the bottom edge of the battery. I didn't realize this and it was only after I carefully trying to pry the battery out that I realized that fold out tab was for the battery, and not another part of the phone.
At least I finally got the old battery out and replaced it with your part. It's working well so far!

🚩WARNING - MAKE SURE YOU PUT E A C H OF THE SCREWS BACK IN THE EXACT HOLE THAT IT WAS REMOVED FROM ! ! ! Otherwise you will damage the circuit board. Ask me how I know ! ! ! ! ! ‼
Recommend you make a diagram of the inside of the phone and lay each piece/screw your remove on it exactly how you removed it!

My adhesive pull tab was folded underneath the battery. I had to actually bend the corner of the battery to see it (very dangerous!) and then was able to unfold it back out and pull it. Clearly Apple doesn't want us changing the batteries ourselves.

The screws are almost al different exept for the two holidng the battery connector which are 1,6mm. The screen bracket is hold by 1•1,2mm + 1•1,3mm + 1•1,7mm + 1•1,7mm non-magnetic screw. Intresting that my iPhone 5S and iPhone SE had the wrong screws attached from factory, or rather the right screws but placed totally wrong, acorcingly to iFix-it anyway. I trust iFix-it a lot more than the pressed chinese workers accuracy, that’s for sure.
Identical setting on the 5S and the SE.

Why is the LCD display also removed (the four different sized screws). It doesn't look like it interferes with the battery removal. Can't I just leave it in place while I replace the battery?

    • @marktorrey
      @marktorrey 5 лет назад +5

Yes you can replace the battery with the display still in place ... However, you run the risk of possible damage to the cables should battery removal prove difficult... adhesive strips do not always come out as nice as these .. I’ve never had them come out like that ... If you want to try it first, and have success with the strips, your ahead of the game ... and reassembly is quicker. If your strips break, it might be advisable to disconnect the screen for easier access. Just leave it rubber banded to a box as Gwen did.

Ifixits' adhesive strips break more easily than Apples original. Now I'm stuck with a battery that is glued in a bit too high up so the battery cable touches the screen assembly resulting in marks on the display caused by the pressure.

I'm all for repairing gadgets but surely if your iPhone SE has a bad battery you should just take it back to the Apple Store as all iPhone SEs should still be within warranty?

    • @meteorshower8160

I completely agree with you, but it could be for people who have their own little business repairing phones, especially iPhones as they aren't the easiest of phones to repair. The business could be one guy in a little village miles away from an Apple Store etc. Just my two cents on it :)

would be nice if you showed how to install the adhesive strips. You went 75 yards here and had to kick a field goal. Go the 100 yards and show the adhesive strip install. for all those who go to do this repair like I did, When you come to the strips be careful to do it correctly. Peel the blue backing away from the strip first and adhere it to the case, with the black tab sticking out to be able to grab on to if needed years later for another battery replacement. Then peel the pink strip and secure the battery. Honestly this is the trickiest part of the battery replacement which this little tart omitted from the video, quite worthless if you ask me. I just did this repair on a 6s successfully but beware of the adhesive strips and give them some thought. Thanks Ifixit 1/2 way.
