      Yeah they sure were, but the Viper is king and proved it when it set 13 records in 2016. Which is more than any vehicle in automotive racing history. Since that time, I believe that the vett recaptured one of them and think that it was at Laguna Seca. But that was just one, is a long way to go for anyone to take the title or even match it and rules the blacktop

    This is the story that disappointed so many people , when without warning , when in 2017 Viper pulled the plug and that was it ...
    Even though I have owned 3 different Vipers , I had been planning on buying a
    New Viper in 2020 , which had been rumored to come with a stock 1000 hp engine
    Convertible supercharged or Turbo d with alot of speculated options
    or the new Ones.

    • @t3hgir
      @t3hgir 9 месяцев назад

      I didn't write this but it sums up the Viper's legacy:
      "The Viper is The Most Awarded international track car in the history of the world.
      It was production dropped straight onto a barge to Germany from dealership...then straight onto the track at green hell track, plastic covering still cover dash, stereo, guages, seats.
      The Italians and Germans laughed at it in 1996, said it was a bad American joke, then they all got scared in June 1996 when it made it's first trial run.
      Porsche supposedly regrouped that night and changed out at least one driver and modified suspension specifically, for heading into the hole at turns.
      The viper was inspired by Carl Shelby while he was earlier working with them before contracting with Ford again. His greatest regret was not developing an all American (no British AC car) production Shelby (Cobra/Daytona). The GTS is a New Shelby Daytona.... Period. Look up the side by sides.
      The viper is 100% handmade, hand painted, hand assembled, etc. No factory line. The viper was never made at dodge....made by less then 75 individuals working at Team Viper 70 Miles from dodge plant.
      They made more corvettes in 2014 then every single viper built from 1992-2017.
      Still today, a ln almost 30 year old viper GTS can take-on on most every single production sports car made today, especially on a true track. They are geared totally differently and the torque produced works with it.
      The Viper is Americas Ferrari. Time will tell this to be true only when it is over sadly. They only make so made a handful of Ford GTs, even those were out of reach of a normal American to own.
      The viper is not cheap, but still can be easily afforded. And best of all ...as Jay Leno says...they are absolutely bulletproof and need very little servicing.
      I have owned 5 vipers, I still have my 2000 GTS steel grey stripe delete with factory optioned brown "Connelly" importer Italian hand sewn for the handmade seats, by humans, right here in the United States.
      Search for "Viper at green hell" on RUclips. At the end of the day... the viper struck fear and pushed performance of every single European track car. In short, Europeans laughed until the fear transitioned to the tears.
      Merica' made a car to hit the corners at gforce speed and enough torque to escape the hole coming out.
      Porsche had turbo lag and corners were not the strongest. The viper had 355 tires that stuck the turn with a mammoth engine, slammed into a snake head design car that weighed as much as a new beetle, and high gearing to bypass shifts. If you could hold on to the steering wheel, the viper could make any turn at higher speeds. Trick to vipers, they are rigid frames and geared differently. You can't rpm match and downshift to 3rd gear on highway ...or downshift while in the turn itself. If you want to burn rubber downshifting while cruising at 80 mph...she will let you. Like a good bad girlfriend, her answer is always yes and how much "

      @justamanchimp Год назад +2

      I agree, though I think the reason is because the car is uneconomical and difficult to manufacturer giving it's a 6.2l V10. Not a lot of people want to buy them in this day and age even if they've got the money. In the grand scheme of dodges production lines, does it really make sense to put money & R&D into making a new production line specifically for a v10 configuration given they predominately deal with v8s and 4c inline engines? In a business sense it would be a very big and inefficient cost that would be hard to justify even if the company really did want to do it for the sake of love for the racing.
      The only argument is that a race winning car will do them massive favours commercially and could make the Viper profitable, but then GT racing isn't exactly the most popular sport in the world, it doesn't exactly reach the mainstream in the way F1 does for example. How much prestige would a race winning Viper really earn them in the wider world in comparison what they're every day road car business earns them?
      Perhaps if they plopped a V8 in the viper they could consider it but then I think the weight decrease and torque decrease probably wouldn't work with the car anyway. I think overall it would be a slower package than the corvettes for example, just because of the vipers quite unique size and shape, it's not the ideal shape if you think about it from an engineering perspective. I think it kinda needs the V10 to over compensate for its chassis weakness. I mean the differences would be tiny on the roads but in gt racing pushing it to the peak of it's abilities, I think ultimately it wouldn't end up being a race winning car anyway haha. It's kinda sad lol, I wish we could bring back the v10 era cars so bad :(

    What a lot of people forget is that by the year 2000 as shown here, the Vipers had to have air restrictors which vastly limited their former horsepower. Prior to this restriction, when they could run open like other cars, they were the dominant force in both GT2 and LeMans.

      @snakebitten6967 5 лет назад +72

      Don’t forget that along with the heavy air restrictions they also made them run skinnier tires which of course affected its dominance. Meanwhile they allowed Chevy to run a non-production 7 liter engine and a bunch of chassis upgrades while handicapping the snakes. Probably one of the reasons why Chrysler pulled out.
      I get it though. The series wants competition and the Viper naturally has advantages so to try to equalize things they felt they had to do what they did. Every major series the Vipers has run in, from back in the day to now, it has been heavily restricted to fit into the regs of the particular series. That of course goes to all cars but I don’t know of too many other cars that were handicapped to such great extents.k

GM had a TON of influence with the governing body and pulled a Ferrari- they threatened to leave the championship if the rules weren’t changed in their favor. The vipers then had massive air intake restrictors added which cut their horsepower dramatically, making it more “fair”….
