  • Long term review of the Road Glide. Do I have regrets? We will talk about the good and the bad of having a Harley-Davidson Road Glide for 3 years and what i've learned about it. I have put over 41,000 miles on the motorcycle with the majority of these miles being achieved through long distance riding. You might be in the market to buy a Harley-Davidson Road Glide and I want to provide an honest and real world review of this motorcycle. This is a 2020 Harley-Davidson Road Glide special. A few things have been changed in the past few years from the Motor-Company that make this bike even better. Are you in the market for a Harley-Davidson Road Glide? Have you taken a test ride on one yet? This will give you a POV view from the cockpit of the bike. If you enjoyed this video, let me know.

I feel like the majority of people who say they can't daily a bagger or they aren't good around town simply have never ridden them before. Since 2012 when I got my first HD bagger, I was always amazed with how well they handle all situations and how they actually handle better than the smaller HD bikes in the lineup. Also the advantage of having the bags for any small grocery runs is amazing. If you know you know.

Exactly coming from crotch rockets to my first brand new 19rgs the weight at first intimidated me cus i never rode a cruiser to big ass Harley it only took me bout a week to get comfortable the riding experience is awesome longer more meaningful rides i just love it and daily riding in town with a medium tour pack n saddle bags definitely beats wearing a back pack.

Great review. I have a 2018 Road Glide CVO with now 115000 miles. I haven't done anything to it and it is completely stock. I ride it all year in Canada through all weather including snow. Been through hail, tornado and done over 2000 miles of dirt on the bike. Handles great and still rides like new. Only thing that occurred was a cam replacement covered by warranty at 40000 miles after I noticed a slight ticking sound at low RPM (under 2500). Reported it to dealer and they caught it rubbing up somewhere and quickly changed it. I do wish I had the 2019 infotainment but that is my only "want". Bike came with synth oil from factory and it's been changed every 5000 miles. I just did a 20000 mile trip across the USA this summer and no issues. Great vid! Subscribed!

The oil consumption issue is why I sold my 18 ultra limited, it’s just unacceptable in modern times. Riding a 23 Goldwing tour, similar engine output but far superior performance. Finish on Harleys is very good, but mechanically speaking, they are behind the times. And many of their dealers are arrogant in how they treat customers.

I like your modest description of the transmission damage. I hate that the situation happened at all but myself and hopefully many others learned what HD's TCS is capable of (I witnessed it first hand). Also, no one ever mentions that type of fuel mileage which is strange because it's true. 200 plus mile easy on a full tank. Thanks for the long term review.

Love my 2020 RGL! Bought it new Dec 2020. Rode it from Phoenix to Southern Minnesota and back. The huge crosswind kicked my butt but the bike handled really well.
The gas finder did locate a gas station when I needed it. Best Boom Box feature for me is displaying the speed digitally in large font where I can see it easily.
ETTS (parade mode?) is a great feature here in the Phoenix summer heat to prevent the engine from overheating in heavy traffic.
Only mods are a backrest, Road Zeppelin seat and Legend Suspension (rear shocks). Rides like a dream.
    Thanks for the great review!

Great description of the Road Glide! I’m on my second Road Glide and love it- started with the 2003 Anniversary edition which I loved but didn’t have enough power for 900lb and had some serious issues with high speed wobble. That was all fixed when the Rushmore project Road Glide came out in 2015 and I jumped on that. I still ride the 2015 RG and love it and previous issues were resolved with the new frame. The twin-cam is very reliable and easy to mod to get more power equivalent to stock 114 M8 and don’t see a need for upgrade yet (maybe if the 121 with VVT becomes standard). I never had issues with oil consumption on that bike- I only fill it to half of the dipstick. When I fill it to manufacturers specs of 4qts with filter change, it pushes oil out through the breather valves into the airfilter and gunks it up. The other issue I have like you do is the moisture in the clutch fluid which HD could never resolve- have to change it at least yearly or more often. Weird because none of my other bike brands I owned had that issue. Anyhow - I love the RG, it’s a keeper and would buy it again if need be. I had different sports bikes, still have a big adventure bike (2002 BMW GSA) and had several other Harleys.

I have a 2018 Road Glide stock 107 engine with 32K miles on it. I have had no issues with oil consumption. I still use regular oil. The only major problem that I had was on my return trip to Maryland from Arizona in 2021. The stator went out on me 50 mile west of Amarillo, TX! Fortunately, Amarillo H-D got me back on the road the same day.

Like you wasn't crazy about the looks I was looking for a street Glide but listened to others who had both and suggested the road Glide. I am happy I did. I love the looks of the bike now. Great handling bike but yeah the weight I am still getting use to. I have dropped it once in a parking lot but lowered it so slowly I didn't put a scratch on it. I have put around 3600 miles in about 2 1/2 months on it. Love riding this bike!

have a 2018 FLTRU with 74K kms. on it. Love it. Was a Kawasaki guy back in the day but this is by far the best bike I've owned. Have a stage 2, SE.Tuner, SE Power Cam, (6400 rpm) max with power cam, SE pipes, tallboy seat, 12" dominator bars and Legends suspension front and back. Love the hydraulic clutch, haven't had any problem with mine. Surprised on your oil consumption. I "ride" the bike and have never been down more than 1/2 a litre of oil at the 5000 change. Except for the first 1600 kms I've used syn3 in all holes. Everytime my bike goes into the shop they update the gps. The only thing that I dont like is the glare I get off the info screen with the sun at my back...but I can live with that, good vid.

I have a 2021 FLTRXS with 25,400 miles and I’ve enjoyed every minute riding through the Mississippi countryside. I change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles with only a couple of ounces of oil consumption in between. I purchased a fan assisted oil cooler and dealer installed at the 1,000 service. At 24,000 miles the lifters started to clatter for several seconds during cold start up, so I had those replaced with S&S precision lifters and guides. I’ve also installed Tall Boy seat and handlebars, Tab performance mufflers. I had the unfortunate experience of someone driving on the wrong side of the road and they swerved at the last possible second, missing me by inches. So I bought the Kenwood front and rear (dual camera) dash cam system that starts recording as soon as you start the bike. I’m going to replace the suspension this spring with RWS or Ohlins, still can’t decide. Take care and enjoy the ride!

I had a 17 ultra limited with the hydraulic clutch. Now on a road glide limited 21 with the cable clutch. Wasn't happy about it but I prefer it now. Love my glide hasn't given me any problems. I did the dipstick vent firsthand because my 17 would use oil. The road glide has used very little oil between service. You might vent it or do a catch can. I have always run synthetic oils in both. It's the best bike I've had as well. The 114 just has it over the 107.

Got my 2018 in 2019 after a year of the first owners time with 1806 miles. 62,000 on it now. Love it. Alot has changed from the stock bike I bought. Khrome Werks 2 into 2 Exhaust, Dynojet Power Vision, Oil Pump, Cam plate...the whole deal there with S&S stuff and Zippers 468 Cam. Added Dynojet Target Tune as well at that time. A little transmission issue was thought to be a bit worse than was discovered later but Did ReKluse Torq Clutch, Slave cylinder and basket and thought "well as long as we are in there" and did Baker Compensator, new primary chain and drive belt, and then a friend cursed the bike and said "shoulda done the stator" which went out 3 weeks later taking the regulator and exploding the magnet apparently so that was all replaced end of last year. Of course did 14's for bars, added heated grips, a buddy quit riding and gave me his stage two speakers and amp, Klockwerks Sheild (I do have 2 LRS windshields that I have never used if anyone is interested), ASR Seat (well one of my seats, have a Mustang and CVO Set as well), Added a Chopped tour pack but have my racks and all the set up options I could desire. Plenty of things beyond that have been changed. One thing I really like is the Thrashin Supply EZ Shift Inner arm lever, shift levers and adjustable brake lever. I like you, plan to keep this one forever. Its my 5th and best HD. I need more bikes........Love the channel! Keep it up!

Oil: FTH, I have run Amsoil in all my bikes over the last 25 years. From my Dyna, RGs, E-Glides to my BMW R1200 GSA I rode for a while. I always went right to Ams as soon as break-in is done. You're right, they run cooler and quieter on full syn. And as for tech; my current touring bike is a 2020 Road Kind Special. For years HD had decent stereos in their touring bikes but the tech has gotten so over the edge (2023 CVOs) that it has become cumbersome. Those fancy TVs on the dashes will fail eventually. My RK purchase was a vote for simplicity and to get back to riding a motorcycle, not a rolling tech platform. Love my RK. Keep up the adventures.

Good video. Try Red Line oil in the engine...I've tried Mobil 1 and whatnot, and have zero consumption. I rode from Spokane to Las Vegas and back (about 2300 miles) and the oil level did not change at all. Now, my 2022 Road Glide only had about 4000 miles on it at the time, but I've owned 6 M8 bikes (currently own 2 of them) and Red Line has kept the motor the quietest and least amount of consumption. They are great bikes...I'm looking forward to trying to catch up to your mileage!

I'm Not Into Bike Bashing; To Each His Own... However, I'll Choose A Hogg Over A Wing Any Time Or Day... I think the biggest disappointment with Harley's over the years has been their infotainment system. It flat out sucks. Don't know why they can't get it right with all the technology that's been around for years. I'm talking specifically about their mapping system. They should just pay Google maps any royalties they want and just put that in. The search function is horrible on that system amongst all the other shortcomings. Whoever they have on that team should be fired. They obviously never travel.

I personally don't understand why someone would put a tour pack on a bike without first having lower fairings and without also having the speaker pods on the tour pack. It just looks funny to me and also seems like money not-so-well spent. Lower fairings offer protection that the tour pack doesn't. You can buy cheap (relative to the tour pack) luggage to throw behind you if you need extra storage.

Not trying to troll. I had a 09 Ultra Classic and I loved it. I switched to BMW’s and currently own a 22 RT. The reason I switched was because when shopping for a new bike I was looking at the Harley’s, but for the same price, the BMW’s were so much more advanced in regards to rider aides, such as electronic controlled suspension along with several different ride modes., Active cruise control and heated seats . The bike preforms excellent and I haven’t changed anything, but the seat on the bike. With the Harley I upgraded the engine, clutch, seat and suspension to get it the way that I wanted it. I will say that when I did get the bike setup it was fantastic. I guess the point that I’m trying to make is that I wish Harley would catch up a little in regards to what else is available out there. Still like the bikes though. It was great riding it on the open road.
