Great review with a very unbiased opinion backed with some first hand experience with the thermal scopes. They seem great value for money especially when the vision you showed was so clear, awesome review thanks so much.
Yes nice review!! I have the RL42, I went with that one because the 4x Base mag was more suited to shooting smaller targets like Foxes. Mate has the RH50 and using them side by side, we both agree for open county Foxes the RL42 is the better option. For Deer or in scrub, the larger Field Of View of the RH50 would make the better choice in my opinion.
I watched your very helpfull review and I got a question... I have activated cross, then LRF,after that I removed the battery and then the cross and LRF shut down ... so I had to again activate it.Is this normal? ... I appreciate if you give an advice. Thx
What are your thoughts on the saim SCT35 V2 the 42 is out of my price range. and am looking at this V2 model to get into thermals mainly hunting pigs and deer NQ
Bought an RL42 as a change from using IR scope. But what a pain in the "A" to sight in. Ran all the fine tuning for my .204 using a glass optic to be sure of the cartridge performance. Then fitted the RL42 to the rifle, set up a thermal target at 25 yards and found the impact to be 16" low, adjust the reticule to bring the impact to 1.6" low. Place the target out at 100y where the bullet should have been 0.1" high (for a 200y zero) but the impact was approx. 36" low. The reticule adjustment would not reach the point of impact. Tried so many times to zero this thing with no joy, gone back to my trusty ATN. Anyone want to buy a cheap thermal give me a call.
Yes John, and since I posted the above, I bought a 20MOA pic rail to mount it on instead of the zero moa - Also learned that the problem was not the scope but me. Finally figured out how to do it and have been using the scope with great success since. I have become a lover of the RL42 - the image is so clear, tiny little mice running around at 120 yards are easily recognised. My last hunt saw 34 pigs, 8 wild dogs and 11 feral cats taken cleanly. @@JohnBray-vg1nm
My own fault. Not understanding that the range options are not a calibration of the 100 yard zero but individual zero that must be done. It would be nice if they included a program like the Burris EL3 that provides zero based on 100 yd - BC and drop - but that is not what the RL42 does and I now have set the scope as it should be set with the individual zeroing at each selected range of my choice to suit my hunting requirements. Just too used to my other equipment and took time to adjust to the lower technology.
Hi! I can’t turn on the grid on the RICO RL 42. We don’t have this function in menu and don’t know how to turn on this. Can you help me with this, please?
If for some reason your RL42 or RH50 does not have crosshair functions, you have to hold down the 3 buttons closest to you for 10-15 seconds. Basically the unit was set to photography mode which isn''t even documented in the instructions for some reason.

Thanks, Paul. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the detailed review.
Did you get any feedback from the supplier regarding the issues you mentioned with the range finder?

Get in touch with the distributor. It's either something they can help you resolve or a warranty issue.
Hi Kev, do you still have the scope.
