Pulsar Thermion XQ50 Thermal Scope Review

  • My thoughts with plenty of scope footage using the Pulsar Thermion XQ50 Thermal Rifle Scope. Always a lot of money to spend on a thermal rifle scope and the Thermion XQ50 is no exception, These things are expensive. I've put the XQ50 Thermion through some harsh field use over a few months and I'm now ready to let you know my unbiased, unsponsored impression of a thermal scope I purchased as a regular consumer.
    I will link below to Arms and Ammo who I purchased the scope from. The staff there had the XQ50 Thermion shipped in overnight and I couldn't be happier with service like that. If you are looking at a pulsar offering it is well worth giving Tommy and the crew a call to see what they can do for you.

    Dude you rocked that review. I live in South Carolina and we shoot no more than 250 yards. My buddy just bought the xp50 and paid over $5k. I wanted one and didn't know what to go with. Saw the xp 50 and the xq50 comparison. I saved over $1300 by pulling the trigger on the xq50. I guarantee he and I will not notice the image quality within 200-300 yds. Plus I saved money for more Accessories.

    Thanks for the tip on using the blue button as I too was struggling to hold centre and push the side button. I use the XM50 on a 17hmr and pop bunnies out to about 150 on black hot. Going to trie white hot for the better image detail. Not had this scope long but had a 50m Fox the other night and the image quality was unbelievable. £3200 in the uk which is a heap of cash but it’s a game changer. Love your vids and just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for the tips and information. Love the .22 mousing video. Just bonkers! Cheers from the UK. Steve.

    • @EDGEoftheOUTBACK
      @EDGEoftheOUTBACK  3 года назад

      Thanks Steve. I'm mainly running black hot now, But here's a tip that was passed onto me. Turn the brightness all the way to 20. And the contrast right down to like 1-3. Much more in image detail in black hot, not just a black shape. Works really well so long as the humidity isn't ridiculous.

    Great Review
    I've had me XQ50 for several months now and agree they are a great piece of kit.
    The rubber cover on the objective adjustment split, it was very stiff to operate, no problem with warranty, they replaced the complete scope on the spot.
    I don't get the battery life you do, but it was a case of purchasing a second battery and I take the charger with the vehicle so there is always a fully charged battery available.
    I also set up the Thermion for multiple loads with a separate zero for each. And a day scope. The Thermion maintains zero even when the scope is removed between shots.
    Depending on the weather my scope needs a refresh quite often, but it really isn't a big deal, the critter doesn't know I'm there.
    I've picked up heat sources at 1400yds that I watched approach and later dispatched, cold night with low humidity on a sloping grass paddock.

      That's great to hear, thanks for chiming in as people read the comments and I was sure I wasn't alone on a few things. Sloping paddocks without skylines give the best view. Especially if cool and low humidity 👌. Awesome shooting in that case.

    I am looking at getting the XP50 thermion I have been using my mates Trail XP50 so will stick with that size. Main reason is from your review saying how easy it is to swap between rifles. They are a complete game changer. Rabbit shooting we found using spot light you would see 80 and shoot 40-50 a night now when I go out with my mate we see over 200 and get 150+ in a night and thats each because he has 2 thermals set up.

    Great review Nathan. Haven't used my XQ50 to the degree that you have but concur with your thoughts. I find the 3.5 base mag most convenient and even x2 is perfectly useable. I'm more of a fan of ultramarine: just suits my eye I guess. Top bugbear: not having a top menu level or quick access shortcut to colour modes. Farting around in the menu levels is a total pain for something that I typically cycle very frequently. I've written to Pulsar about this - maybe a few more queries directed at them can get a change in software to accommodate this. Previous top bugbear: pressing the menu button to freeze the image when one shot zeroing. So big props for spotting that start button option and sharing it! I swear I read every word of the manual: clearly that didn't register. Cheers.
