Great review fella, I must admit I smiled a lot when I didn’t have to wrestle the focus ring on my Thermion 2 XP50 as well, and totally agree about the lense cap, minor tweaks but very glad they did it!
Yeah the new lens cap is a winner for me. Probably a $25 part on a $8K scope but I appreciate that a lot. I broke mine easily on the XQ50. Glad you like the video, Certainly a nice scope to use as you know !!!
It certainly is, and I’m Victoria based so it really is tested in bad weather down here and that is where the bigger differences between it and the others around are shown to me

Have you had any issues with POI shift? I know in the original trail XP/XQ would change depending on the temperature have you experienced this with the thermion?
Hey There. Thanks for a great Review. When the Thermion is Zeroed in on your Rifle and you remove it, how well does the Thermion keep its origional Zero when you remount it?
Many thanks for another helpful review (I bought the Helion 2 XP50 thermal monocular on the basis of your review and I’ve not been disappointed), when you are using this sight at night what do you use for ranging? The bracketing technique on the sight (the same I think as is on the monocular) would be just too slow.
I can get away with a regular rangefinder generally off a terrain feature. But shooting on a centerfire it's not too bad anyway as most shots are under 150m for my night use.
Many thanks Nathan, my regular range finder (Hawke LRF 400) can’t really see anything in the dark and I expect you are probably just judging the distance from experience and the size of the target. I see Pulsar offer the Axion XQ38 thermal LRF which would allow for quick target scanning and ranging but it is pretty much the same cost as the sight. The Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XP50 is starting to appear on websites now but the cost is half as much again. An alternative is the PARD T-Pro 12µm 42mm Thermal scope with built in rangefinder for about the same price as the non-LRF Pulsar sight but still expensive. No easy solutions!
I run a Leica LRF so that sucks in a fair bit of light. The new InfiRay Finder FH35R will be interesting too. I have only just received one to play with and it has a lot of great features.
Howdy Nathan, Great videos and thanks for the effort you put into them. Just wondering if you have had a chance to compare the Thermion 2 and an ATN Thor/mars 4 640? or what are your thoughts on the two? I notice magnum sports have the 4-40 ATN mars 640 on sale from $12000 down to $7900, compared to the thermion 2 for $8000. Regards Shannon
Hi Shannon. Not something I have compared. The ATN is older tech and a lot of people had issues with them. Given the choice between the two the Thermion would be my pick.
Hi Nathan. I live just north of you at Macksville. I am looking at getting a thermion scope the same as yours xp 50 Where did you get yours from and how much are they. Thanks buddy for your help.
I hunt wild boar with Thermion XQ50. Super happy with the sight, really top class. Used the sight while hunting when it was -21 °, flawless! Lives and hunts in Sweden. be safe
Yes it's an expensive scope for sure. For me it's more about better quality footage. The XQ50 certainly did the job just fine. I'm running Warne Maxima Quick Detach Rings on 5 of my scopes now. They are fantastic and zero return to within 10mm @ 100m every time.

@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK would be great if you could do a video about that. Did you ever wish you could have a range finder for your night hunts? I’m actually looking into the XP50 but the fact that I can’t range is a limiting factor for me.
