Shooting Feral Pigs with the $23,000 InfiRay Rico RS75 1280 Thermal Scope

- It's not every day you get an opportunity to use a $23,000 AUD thermal scope to shoot some feral pigs for pest control. But here we are with the brand new InfiRay Rico RS75, 1280 HD resolution scope.
Big thanks to my mate for the invite out seeking assistance on this contract for pest control.
If you are interested in a thermal or night vision device in Australia, have a chat with Ben from Hunt the Night.
I'll go over my thoughts on the scope at the end of the video, if you would like that opinion. I've touched base with a few other users of this scope who seem to have much better looking footage. I'm curious to hear how they made things look so much cleaner as my video footage I found lacking compared to the eyepiece view. All these clips were recorded internally on the RS75 and downloaded via the InfiRay app for editing. We didn't have the most amazing thermal conditions by the end of the night with ground fog but things started nicely in the longer stubble.
I'm shooting my custom Tikka T3 rifle chambered in 6mm BR with a 18" Carbon Six barrel, and Hi Tec Industries stock. The suppressor is from Shawmac Industries and works amazingly well on this cartridge shooting 87gr Hornady V-Max's at 3000fps (all reloads). Thermal scope is obvious, and for scanner duties I'm running my Pulsar Merger LRF XP50 thermal binoculars.
I am a vertebrate pest control - contract shooter in NSW. For those wondering about the suppressor use, I hold the necessary permit in NSW to do so. If seeking information regarding that, please check the FAR webpage for details. All shooting is performed on privately owned farms, with exclusive permission granted in writing for paid services.

Jeez she's a nice scope but for that price you would expect it to have no flaws and carry the pigs back to the truck for ya. Thanks for the no BS honest review. Thats why we watch your channel
Thanks mate, that's why I mentioned those things. Unpopular, I'm certain with the brands, but so be it. They don't pay me to say X or Y 👌
Nice scope but the price jeez
Agree with you on the flaws at this price-point. Came here to say just this.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK
I very much appreciate your honesty about it.
Way to many are not honest about their tests for different reasons.
Outstanding scope would be nice but my wallet is far from bullet proof 😅
Nathan, the recording via this scope was superb, the audio quality was excellent as well. Thanks to you for your efforts to put out such excellent pest eradication content on your channel. Thumbs up also for your humor and wit. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks Ron, appreciate it mate 👌
Ron 😊I must agree he is the best at shooting and talking.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Was the neat used commercial or private?
neat?
Ha, here's a shoutout to your wife !! Your man does such a good job, he deserves two of these scopes in next year's budget !!
😂 I doubt that'll pass the gate, just like my bullets 😞
Really fun to use a thermal. What I found is that your eyes have adjust a lot- the scope is comparatively quite bright so when you pull back from the scope you're seeing nothing but black. If you're walking in a brushy area, you'll need a few seconds and a red light flashlight to adjust to you don't trip. In some places you see a lot of heat from various creatures. Big fun- excellent vid and thanks mate!
Cheers Neil 👌
The clarity and distance you can see is quite remarkable.
Man !!! That scope looks great ! I'm afraid it's a tad pricey for me, but it sure looked like a great tool for the job.. My favorite moment was the birds flying from the trees.. Very nice Amigo, great shooting as always..
That was a cool little clip that honestly, at the time I wasn't aware of the birds. 😂 I was actually looking around with my Mergers
I can’t remember the specifications, but when I was a police sniper, we went on a nighttime demo of a thermal sight. Probably 10 years ago and it had different settings like white heat, black heat and it actually had a setting to where it would actually show the outline of the image. We were using it on a tripod just to play around with and I was in charge of carrying it back. I carried that thing like it was a baby even though it wasn’t mine!
I Don't know that I can tell a difference from your other scopes all your videos are top notch. Really enjoy your videos. 😊😊
Love the video thanks for not just folding to big brands and staying honest.
Thanks Jason 👌
The image in the scope is hollywood good, like the stuff that we have been seeing in the movies is now an actual thermal scope that does not pixelate out under high magnification. Great review of the product and your amazing shooting rig allows you to make some incredible shots. I have a 6.5 Grendel that shoots like that and it will only be a few more years till the feral hogs are invading my part of the state. Guess it will take me a few years to save up for that fine piece of technology.
the price has dropped quite dramatically now
@@bae896 Yeah, it's still 2x+ the price of my Nightforce, which was NOT cheap...Thanks for the update tho:)
Imaging from the scope was good. I liked the hot spot on the gate where it was hit. Thanks for making my Friday arvo that much better
Cheers Don, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Seeing the birds take off around 3:42 was pretty cool to see on thermal.
It was eh, didn't realise I actually captured that.
It was eh, didn't realise I actually captured that.
4:12 Even the spray of water from the irrigation system showed up. No doubt the water was cooler than the surrounding air temp.
Unreal stuff. The distance to resolution is insane.
Been watching these night time thermo scope hog kills for awhile and am totally wowed by the power, price and beauty of the magnificent gun! The shooter is a real professional at the craft too!
Cheers
Just really like the work that you do and the way you carry it out. Thanks
I appreciate that!
Brilliant vid and superb shooting as always…Love your work 👍👍👍
Cheers mate 👌
This looks like so much fun! Nice scope!
Wonderful thing you're doing for your country. Keep it up! ❤
Cheers mate
how?
@@blueeyedseptember5871 - You would have to have common sense to know how destroying invasive species helps keep native species from becoming extinct.
*EDGE of the OUTBACK* Bravo well done, thank-you sir for taking the time to bring us along. GOD Bless.
Cheers mate
Another fantastic professional shoot overcoming a couple of shortcomings of the scope, BUT as usual great viewing. Love your work. The scope overall is excellent for non-military grade I must say. Shame some other tech is not available to people such as yourself saving our wildlife. Great work mate!
Thankyou 🍻
Scope footage is amazing - very clear
Thank you
Great video once again. Way out of my price range, thanks for the review.
Cheers mate 👌
Wow, that thing is so acurate right on point. Its beautiful mate!!!
Great to see active discipline being followed and commented on can definitely see why you’re the professional
Sounds like a military statement 🤔
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK nah mate bovine behind probably could have made the shot but chose not to you probably could have nailed the pig lots of people would have tried but you didn’t roll the dice it’s a good thing
@@NHGJordanAbbott shooting cows is fortunately something I don't wish to have on my resume 😳
The Iray Scope is insane, your shooting is outstanding,
Thank you 👌
That weed that we all hate with purple flower is called scotch thistle
It's Variegated thistle 👌
That is a fantastic scope your playing with. Wish I had a spare 23k or a nice bloke like Ben watching my shooting
The images are very and clear and good detail I bet u will like it
Funny that little hot spot on the gate telled on ya 😂😂😂 nice shooting! That scope is great the clarity is awesome.
Bloody gate 😭
❤ Price means nothing to me , I drive a 09 car so that’s worth more than my car. I really like this guy always look for the excitement in his hunts and storytelling.
Thanks Jay, appreciate it mate 👌
Algorithmic engagement comment.
Wow! I almost lost it when I read the tagline! My first thought was that maybe the contract business was doing better than I thought!
Great video as always!
Nah I wish mate, to rich for me but it was nice to get the chance to play with it
InfiRay is a Chinese company. I don’t think I’d be too keen to ship $23k in their direction, even if the scope looks good. Thanks for the videos with the product demos! I appreciate the quality content.
Really appreciate it mate 👌
Damn right. They can have it
Not a big fan of the Commies but don’t we do that anyway when buy the iPhone and a huge number of other electronics?
Nice work Nathan and mate, I reckon with that scope I could shoot something. Ps glad you reassured the misses. 😊😊
Had to do that, she'd kill me (more than usual)
l really enjoy your content Nathan and this review did not disappoint
l can only remark how much better this is than my pard008 LOL
thankyou
Yeah well I'd expect a slight performance gap to the 008 😂
Amazing shooting, really top notch!
Thank you 👌
Great shooting. No one can complain about what you are doing.
Oh but they do 😂
Very nice setup and excellent optics, the price is for a niche market to say the least. Would like to see some tracer rounds on video through that scope.
Fantastic scope and great shooting mate!!!
Cheers Steve
Man Killer Scope, Great video mate 👍
Cheers mate 👌
That’s a serious scope. Great shooting
Cheers 🤙
A scope so good, it almost takes the sport out of it. And that's a compliment! Hopefully with your feedback they'll refine the few remaining issues, as other commenters have mentioned.
I'm actually not working with InfiRay at all. Never have 🤷♂️
Well. The scope doesn't stop him from missing 😆
That scope has the best image I’ve seen. Except for the gate, that was some nice shooting!
Glad you thought so 👍
the clarity is awesome on that rs75 wish i had the readys to buy one
Love your work like always, the image quality when magnified is amazing. The spring loaded mount looks interesting, I currently run a Pulsar xp trail and I find the recoil from th e30/06 is too much for the scope and nocks it out of site. I'm not running a suppressor so theirs no dampening on the recoil.
That's annoying 😑
I highly recommend that you mount a suppressor on it.
That will make a huge difference.
If you live somewhere suppressors are not legal, then I think you should try a rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor and see how that works for you.
But you might have a mount issue instead of a scope issue as well.
So I would get the mount checked by a competent gunsmith first of all.
Or buy the best mount you can get if you don't already have that.
@@The_Judge300 Thanks Camivore, unfortunately I don't have a say in the calibre as it's a work rifle. I am in Australia, so a suppressor is out as I don't have a category C licence, also I am shooting mainly Samber Deer and the allowed calliber is .270 and above. I have had the mounts checked by the gunsmith and they are ok. I was thinking of a muzzle break, but their issues with that as well.
Flash scope but way out of my league. Great shooting i was waiting on a twofer with those suckers running around, keep the great content coming Nath cheers Yogi 👍🤘🇦🇺
Cheers Brett 🤙
Thanks for the video, nicely done with the hogs shooting and a very nice scope. Take care of yourself and family and be Blessed ❤️❤️❤️👍.
Thank you Michael 👌
Interesting scope; brilliant shooting and in the final analysis: lots of dead pigs and keep dropping them!
For 23,000$ I can buy a 2 bedroom fixer upper for monthly rent income!

As always love it cobber, straight down the line true blue.🤠
Cheers mate 🍻
It’s blooming amazing 😮 I like it some quality images
I've purchased a number of thermal and night vision scopes over the last 10 years. My limit and most expensive scope was a thermal with a 100mm objective at $12,000 so I'm waiting for the price to come down to $12k for my next upgrade.
That's one positive from this emerging technology, it'll hopefully improve things as a whole and drop costs down eventually with competition.
60% of what’s actually seen? That’s incredible.
I own several 640 scopes but as good as they look they are not even close to the clarity of this RS75! I have gotta get one! WOW
Hey I seen you in the gun shop in Tamworth a little bit ago I was one of the kids that came up talking about deer keep doing what your doing your good at it and I love your lids
Awesome mate 👌, was great to meet you.
Not being a shooter, the scope images looked mint, great job.
Thanks mate
Amazing mate can't believe the price of it😮
Good Onya, good to see you’re knocking a few on the head , Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 from the big island 🏝️
Thanks mate 👌
Incredible. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Nathan great review on the scope, the picture quality is great especially when you zoom in. But for that price its disappointing. I still think you can’t look past the Pulsar for all round value for money. Appreciate your time cheers.
Thanks Robert, I still like my Pulsar gear which I paid for 😎
I 100% agree.
The Pulsar is way better value for the money.
Excellent image quality but kinda pricy especially considering the flaw with the reticle and issue with the mount. Great video and shooting as always. 👍❤️👍
Thanks Ron 🍻
Fantastic piece of kit to have in your arsenal.
Thank you 👌
Another awesome video mate cheers
Thanks Jay
Hi Nathan, the issue with the PIP not being aligned with the main reticle is probably down to 75mm lens. It sounds like Iray have not changed the program from the standard 50mm lens. I had the same issue with a 100mm Senopex and it was a simple firmware update that fixed the problem. Cool video by the way 👍
Thanks Nick, I'll leave that matter for them to solve. Just call it as I see things 👌
Great video. Saw the mouse , I think there was another in the tree .
Pretty sure there was a hot spot on the gate as you alluded to . 😉
Definitely a gate strike hot spot, and rodents definitely on the rise 😳
scope seems to have excellent performance!
Love your work . Love
Appreciate it 🍻
I'd take the suppressor over the optic though mate. Such a massive difference in blast n less disturbance to everything around. Should be not only perfectly legal but encouraged.
I won't disagree with that 💪
Those birds flying away from the tree looked cool AF
I didn't even realise I captured that, was off scanning something else at the time. Pretty cool 👌
It's awesome! For that amount of money, I'd need to live in it.
This tool is amazing.
Just don't see a lot of Aussie hunters rushing out to buy one at that price and with the lack of ammo and the price of ammo now days it's a waste. cheers mate
I don't think a scopes expense, changes ammunition volume fired. Especially if it's work in my case.
Amazing shooting. Super cool Scope.
Thanks mate
3-4sec after seeing through the scope… wow.. that’s actually really scary..especially for the receiver in the other end!!
You see clear as daylight - I’m really impressed
It's good gear mate
Hello Nathan, family and friends, I hope you are all well.Great video as ever. The conversion to British pounds is £12,000. Even if I had that sort of money, I do not, I could not justify that, I am not good enough shot. Tell your wife, "It Is for business purposes"🤔Take care and stay safe everyone. Tim W, England.
Cheers Tim, I won't be buying one either 😳
Howdy from Sacramento! Great shooting!
Thank you 🍻
The zoom in capability is where you pay the price. I use a Rattler 35 and it’s a great thermal scope for average guys(3K). It just cannot zoom in with this clarity at that yardage
Another amazing video
Cheers mate
Awesome scope❤
Great stuff! I do have to ask how you travel around at night? Have a buggy or just walk around on foot? Do you get to cover much ground at night? Keep up the videos!
That all depends on the job. I've got all modes of transport in some way covered in the video's - 4x4, car, quadbike, SxS, Ebike or on foot.
Still trying to make a video thumping some pigs. Just so deep in the thick swamp here in Florida, can't get to them. Hopefully they show up in the cow pasture soon. Love the vids mate. Keep them coming.👍👍 Guess I'll stick to fishing and bowfishing until I get lucky.
Thanks mate, terrain can definitely make or break a video 😞
Fantastic setup
Great video and honest review
Cheers mate
Great shooting again fella, and I must admit I was amazed at the digital zoom as well but until that price drops dramatically it’s out of reach to the average bear 🍻
Yeah it's pretty crazy, but hey, newer gear might be more affordable and it's a new leap in technology.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Absolutely, in a few years we will all be running HD hopefully :)
Like anyone can afford that......really?
hit man😂
Beautiful! Thank you,
Cheers
Greetings my friend, you are doing good hunting, the machine you have is very good, I wish you success.🍀👍
Nice ahooting mate. Looks like a great scope, perfect for night time shooting, just a little too pricey.
Definitely not cheap, thanks for the comment 🍻
The fact you include negatives gives viewers confidence in the validity of your assessment. Ever read a bad car review in the Sunday papers, no, cause the expert reviewer would get black balled by the manufacturers if they do, so they only print very pretty reviews. Result, sensible people don’t believe any of that rubbish. People can believe you.
Thank you 👌
I'm very impressed 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Yep a thumbs up from me, can you imagine the snipers who are using this little beauty
Keep up the good work mate, Come over to NZ & get rid of all our Possums, rabbits
That scope is unreal, but of course it should be......next version has gate-detecting algorithms in right? ;-)
I'd actually drop the coin on that. Or maybe a real time, field rewind function 🤔
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK 😁gates aside, always an enjoyable watch.
I could justify buying a $23K scope if it clearly revealed next weeks lotto numbers 🧐
Beautiful scope, great video and audio.
Thank you 👌
Awesome pic quality and that resty is super steady
Cheers
Excellent shooting mate. And good drills ensuring your wife knew that scope was a loan for the vid…
Absolutely 🥵
Just found your channel. Great shooting. What happens to all the dead pigs after you collect them?
Feral pigs are just carrion on most shoots. In Australia they often carry disease and parasites (worms, tuberculosis, brucellosis etc). Unless you are very careful at checking these animals, it's not worth eating them.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK oh i didn't ever consider eating them. just turning them into fertilizer or something similar
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Issue is, one of the reasons the wild dogs are getting to be a problem is carrion from hunting leftovers. Much of an issue with that in the Hunter Region?
@@BADALEX1 dogs are terrible in some locations. Perhaps chat with the LLS regarding the current aerial operations they have been running for 6+ months now. Talk about bulk carrion on a scale we don't even come into play with.
Depends on the job but a lot of ours go into land fill.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Unintended consequences are something the government likes to pretend doesn't exist wherever they can manage it. In some places (very rare exceptions) the local deer population was doing a great job at reducing fuel load for bushfires and had a positive impact. Aerial culling solved the deer problem, brought back a bigger one. Thinking things through is not something the government tends to do...
That makes for some really expensive bacon 🥓 😊
A dream rig for that work.
Thanks mate
Awesome good work keep up the job 😊
Thanks 😁
Nice shooting as usual. I noticed your piggies settled down quite quickly, enabling another shot. Maybe it's a learning thing?
Pressure and we shoot suppressed helps. Wish they all behaved l like that every job 😒
