  • If you would like to see what I do in an afternoon and evening on a contract pest control shoot, you are in the right place. This shooting trip we are out hunting invasive feral pigs, foxes and feral cats. There's plenty of bulk action packed footage in this video in both daylight and after the sun sets with the thermal gear, things get a little wild towards the end plus...... I'm running the bolt pretty hard on my new custom 308Win rifle and it's not without a few teething niggles.
Access into this area is with my mates Polaris XP1000 side by side buggy. This machine is purpose built for his contract shooting business and works amazingly well in the terrain type for pest control. Big thanks to him, my unnamed mate "Bucket" for the invite out seeking assistance.
Critters on the deck and not killing native animals and damaging agriculture is the aim of the game. These uncontrolled animals are an environmental and agricultural menace in Australia and are classed as invasive pest species.
I'm not shooting for human consumption on this trip, it is purely pest control of invasive species in Australia. These uncontrolled animals are an environmental and agricultural menace, often carrying bacterial and diseases like brucellosis. Pigs are left where they lay as carrion, nothing generally lasts more than a week in the Aussie bush before it's just a few scattered remains.
I am a vertebrate pest control - contract shooter in NSW. For those wondering about the suppressors, both my mate and I hold the necessary permits in NSW to do so. If seeking information regarding that, please check the FAR webpage for details. All shooting is performed on privately owned farms, with exclusive permission granted in writing for paid services.
Call to action - If you would like to see the continuation of RUclips channels like mine or others. PLEASE consider joining Patreon for further support.
    www.patreon.co...
My 308Win rifle is a full custom, which I will review soon to share all the details properly. Action is a Defiance Machine Tenacity, Triggertech Special trigger, 18 inch Carbon Six Barrel, Wedgetail Industries Suppressor, all in an MDT HTN26 Carbon Fibre Chassis. I'm running reloaded ammunition with 150 grain Hornady SST projectiles and a sprinkling of subsonic rounds, which are reloads using 190 Sub-X projectiles. My thermal scope is a Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG50 and for the scanner I'm running a brand new Pulsar Merger LRF XL50 which is 1024x756 resolution !!! Daylight scope, I'm using a PARD D35/50 RF. All up it's about a $15,000 AUD value rig with the thermal scope fitted.

Great night's work! Just my 10 cents but an Australian can't honestly call themselves a "conservationist" and not cheer you on for getting rid of those destructive pigs. And the cat and foxes mean you've preserved the lives of numerous native birds and small mammals and newborn lambs. Keep doing what you do 👍

Brilliant work again, some great shooting, and a great video.
With reference to your PPU reloads. I bought a batch of it for my 222 and my 22-250. I have even reloaded a lot of the brass as well, I never really had a problem with it. My 222 is a CZ 527 American, and my 22-250 is a tikka t3 super varmint, both standard. Don’t get me wrong, it is certainly not the best Ammo by far, but when your offered 200 rounds of 222 and 200 rounds of 22-250 for £100, you don’t pass on it, I think that’s around $200. I normally shoot Sako ammo. I shoot Hornady in my smaller rifles when I can’t be bothered reloading.

I use PPU brass exclusively in my Schmidt Rubin 7,5 Swiss rifles. Only issue, as with ALL reloading of bottle-necked rifle brass, is case length "growth": Case expands and "flows" forward on firing. FLS die squeezes the brass back to nominal diameters BUT there is a bit of forward stretch / flow in that process, too. Too long a neck and you eill encounter those "interesting times" of alleged Chines origin. The brass that flows forward has to come from "somewhere" and in true Murphy fashion, it appears to creep from near the head of the case. Hence the formation of visible changes in the crystal structure about 8-10mm forward of the head. Also very noticeably in rifles with excess headspaceKnown in the trade as a good indicator of "incipient head separation". Ripping the head off a case in the loading press is a bit of a drag, but with the right tools tools, not a catastrophe.
Out in the pig-infested weeds? A different matter, unless you have the correct ruptured-case extractor gear in your field kit..
About a decade ago, I lashed out on a Dillon electric trimmer and the special dies for several cartridges.
I have seen a couple of very expensive rifles damaged with un-trimmed reloaded brass.
Most "modern" sporting rifles have rather dainty extractors and ejectors, unlike old military standards like Mausers and Lee-Enfields, Accumulated crud in teh extractor recess in the bolt can reduce the "travel" of the extractor claw in the grooved case head. This "crud" will also hold moisture in and around the spring. Rust is the great spring-killer. All of which requires a bit of attention in daylight or a very well lit workshop.
Nice shooting, BTW :"Applied Ecology" rools!

@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK did you sort out the extraction? Was the ppc brass too soft?

    • @EDGEoftheOUTBACK
      @EDGEoftheOUTBACK  Год назад

I'm 90% sure that's the issue. Or a slightly undersized rim for the extractor in the PPU brass. I'm just chucking it all in the bin now.
