You are discovering all of my (and others) go-to tribute bands, Leonid & Friends (seen them three times in concert so far), Foxes & Fossils, these guys, etc. We all love the original artists, but it's like when a famous symphony orchestra plays a Mozart or Beethoven piece and does it with precision and new energy. It keeps the music alive for us geezers, but introduces it to new ears. Be well, Jeff!

As one of the videographers for LLB, I can tell you this is 100% live. This was recorded during the annual concert that we have in Wilmore,KY on Labor Day weekend
Thank you for your kind review. Come see the show in 2024!

Yes, this is really, really live!! The LLB put on an outdoor concert each year in, I think, September. This video is from last fall. They have a revolving group of musicians who come and go depending on the song or genre. Really fun and smile-inducing band!!

There is strength in numbers as well as the opportunity to almost exponentially tap into realms of expression that a smaller band - no matter how mighty a "Mighty Mouse" they might be can't access! Lexington Lab Band is more along the lines of Leonid and Friends and this performance was truly excellent.
I don't have catalogued the voice of the Kansas lead singer in my mind so, I will take it vouchsafe on your word that, though - sounding great to both of us - he didn't mimic the original singer exactly. An accomplishment that, frankly, being pragmatic, realistic and empirical evidence oriented in nature as we are!
    - is almost impossible to do; given the vocal chords of a great singer and the sounds they produce are genetically their gift to them from God - and vicariously from Him to us!
In any event, the fun of tribute bands, such as this and the others, is that they help keep alive the genius that the original creators imparted to their masterpieces, which we all enjoyed before and now, can once again!

I've been following this group for about 5 years now and haven't heard any less than perfect reproductions from these guys and gals. Their Boston, Eagles, Steely Dan, and Heart covers are mind blowing in their accuracy. Like Leonid & Friends they choose the right combination of musicians and singers to achieve their goal of re-creating the original with an updated mix.
"Foreplay/Longtime" and "Hitch a Ride" by Boston, would be good choices for your next review/reation of the Lexington Lab Band. Barracuda by Heart, would be a good follow-up reaction. These guys and gals absolutely smoke these songs. If you closed your eyes while listening, you would think it was the original artist or band playing.

Do a little research on LLB and your mind will be blown. They are rarely the same band for every cover. They practice the songs separately at home and come together to record. This particular video is live from their annual concert. They do not tour because they would have way too big of an entourage to pull that off. Go to their YT channel and prepare to have your mind blown.

RUclips randomly dropped Leonid & Friends and Foxes and Fossils in my feed back in 2017 and then LLB maybe a year or so later. They continue to add others from time to time. I remember when I got Mat & Savanna Shaw in my feed shortly after the C-19 lockdown started.

@@rgoersSort of scary how accurately they track your interests, isn't it? Low Darts was dropped into my feed. Not in the same league as L&F, HSCC, LLB, Etc., but really interesting for a group of young people. Listen to their studio stuff, though. A good start might be Goodbye Stranger.

Darn! I thought I was putting in the first request for LLB. I consider them to be one of the top 5 tribute/cover bands on RUclips, although it is hard to call them a "band" in the regular sense since they switch several of the key artists in every song they do. But they are very, very talented. This is one of their most recent releases and I believe it was done live - it may be the only one. I seem to recall they recently did a concert and you could see the large crowd in one of the shots. I know it is very difficult for them to do live performances since they involve so many artists.

    • @barryanderson3910

There are a few constants in the band. They're sort of like Steely Dan in that respect. BTW, what are your other 4?

@@barryanderson3910 Leonid & Friends, Foxes and Fossils & LLB are my 3 favorites. HSCC has some really good stuff. I like some stuff by The Fendertones, The Petersons, Mona Lisa Twins & Music Travel Love.

    • @barryanderson3910
      @barryanderson3910 6 месяцев назад

@@rgoersI loved the Fendertones when I found them a number of years ago, but then when L&F and the other aforementioned groups came along, and the Fendertones apparently stopped recording, they disappeared from my radar. They did put out some admirable covers of Beach Boys songs, thoough. As far as your last 3, I haven't had the pleasure to run into any of their material, but I will check them out. Thanks for your reply.

First, the lead singer on this video is Mike Vandemark, who is the founder and leader of LLB. He produces and mixes all of their videos. Second, you compared his vocals to the lead vocals on Kansas's original version of the song. Depending on when you heard Kansas perform this song, you would get multiple versions of how the lead vocals sounded. Steve Walsh was the original vocalist. John Elefante replaced him in 1982. Steve later came back. By the time he retired from the group in 2014, his voice was shot and he didn't sound very much like he did in 1976. He was replaced by Ronnie Platt, their current singer. I have seen Kansas in concert multiple times with all 3 singers, and they each have their own unique sound. I don't think it matters how closely Vandee's vocals sound like Steve's. This is a fantastic version of the song.

A magnificent band. Cover band? What is a cover really? Playing compositions by others is something that has been common throughout history. More than half of the biggest chart hits in the 1960s were covers of songs that others had covered before. This is simply a magnificent band.

The guy with the red PRS isn't even the best guitar player he uses! There are others who are absolutely jaw-dropping, and I say that as one who has played since 1972. The band is a mix-and-match organization that draws on the musicians from the local Lexington, KY area and he uses different line-ups according to the song being recorded. This is a glorious rabbit hole. One other edit: This apparently was the last song (very live) they did at their one annual concert on Labor Day.
