- In this video we walk through the installation of the Core4x4, 4-link long arm kit for the jeep XJ/MJ. There are several small details that are very important that we learn along the way, and we manage to decipher the hardware without any instructions. Overall, the kit seems to be of great quality and I would recommend this kit to anyone looking to long arm their Cherokee/Comanche.

We used the tier 4 kit in this video, the only difference between tier 3 and 4 is the joint on the axle side of the lower control arms. I recommend going tier 4 for the Johnny Joints vs the poly as the price difference is very little for the upgrade in quality.

Nice video, I have the same kit for my ‘97. Mine is a few years old and didn’t come with the thick washer or captured nuts which would have been nice. So far I haven’t had a single issue and for the price it was a no brainer for me.

Great vid. I am looking at getting a long arm kit for my wife's XJ. It has 4in lift which has worked great for many years. The issue I have is that I put a chassis stiffeners. I need a 3 piece cross member since the arm brackets will have to be welded.
well the core 4x4 kit we used in this video has a 3 piece. its a great kit and i would recommend it
What did you do about the fuel/brake lines that run along the drivers inside frame rail? At 17:45 you mention routing them up and over the top of the upper link. Was there enough room to do that without the arm articulating up and crushing those lines?
Please suggest if you want the suspension to stretch and flex a lot in case of crimbling.
the way you installed the lower arms actually kinda made sense to me, theyre no lower than the control arm brackets on the diff housing anyway, and actually may allow more suspensuon drop due to not interfering with the control arm bracket.
it does seem logical, once we have a chance to do a full flex test (not something we do in the winter here) then we can determine if its okay to flip them, but its really not a huge detriment in the meantime like you said

i agree. theyve recently started working with Gabby D which has kinda lauched their media ahead a little but theyve got a lot of catching up to do. half of the reason i posted this video in such detail was due to the fact that i couldnt find hardly any info about it when we were looking to purchase. turned out to be a fantastic product.
@@slothfabgarage8233 I'm hoping to see them catch up soon. I have their adjustable short arms now and their tier4 tracakbar and it's been nothing but solid. I look forward to ordering this kit and getting it in for next season. Again, thank you for posting this, it's really solidified my decision
Hey great video, installing this kit without directions and for the first time as well, do you (or anyone) know how long you’re supposed to make the long arms adjusted out? I’m trying to avoid having a shop adjust the arms and just do the front end alignment. But looking like I’ll need a full adjustment if I can’t find the information.
i could get a measurement on the current length of the arms for you, but in reality, the arm length will depend on your lift height, whether you have a hp30 or lp30, and if you want to push the axle forward at all.

Great video! Rusty's Offroad has the finest and most sturdy parts for the XJ and their 4 link kit is only 830$. Wonder why not go with those for less?... hmm. I hope this comment doesn't get deleted like the first😏
im not sure what happened to your first comment but i didnt delete it! the rustys kit was the other option whe. determining a kit. lift height requirements for the high clearance arms were one factor. also when you add in 100+ for shipping on the rustys kit, the price was a wash. there were other small details that led to the core kit as well but i cant recall them off the top of my head right now
i would also argue that clayton likely carries the best 4 link kit for an xj, but its in a far different price range than these kits.
@@slothfabgarage8233 right, lift height requirements can be a big factor when building. I built mine to a 10" and netted 8" after the build
( but a 5,000lb built XJ will sag ). So, with my lift height I was not limited, to requirements and since it was always going to be over I think 6.5" I have no mandrel bend.
I also chose Rusty's because their crossmember kit had sideways slotted crossmember holes which for me was a must, as my unibody rails are 3/16" wider on both sides ( because my XJ is fully framed/stiffened out ). So, without that I wouldn't have been able to run other kits, due to the bolt holes being located 3/16" out of alignment.
Another reason I chose them is because it has a total of 14 grade 8 bolts that secure the crossmember sides to the unibody, 4 underneath and 3 in the side of unibody. I've seen Clayton in person and they are sturdy, quality built, and IMO would make a good second choice alternative for me😉.
I dig that you went with something I've never seen or heard of anyone else running though, because I can continue to watch and see how well they hold up and perform. I am confident they are well built and offer a great option for folks out there who are looking for strength and quality at a great price. Ive used core parts personally for a few years on my TJ (before i went fully custom), so i trusted the quality. this xj will be getting stiffeners at some point also so itll be interesting to see how that all works out! more videos to come i guess!
That spacer that goes between the backet and frame is because you don't have frame stiffners
Were you running the stock control arms before the upgrade?
yes on a 3 inch lift, which they worked okay for. the long arm kit was ordered before the 4.5 coils even went in

They have 2 kits. One for 6"+ and one for 0-6".
I havent been able to find that on there website. Or do I have to call them about that 4 link long arm set up.

@@BOOMSTICK-PRODUCTIONS best bet would be a set of wagoneer axles imo. 44s front and rear, 6 bolt axles, or can easily be swapped to 5 bolt. decent amount of aftermarket support and swap truss kits for them.

Any issues with the driveshaft clearance? My front driveshaft (right where it attaches to the transfer case) grinds bad on the crossmember and I’m going to have to grind it a good bit or space it down
there have been no issues with driveshaft clearance with the kit thus far that im aware of. during the video the front axle was a lpd30 and it is now a hpd60. neither have proved problematic
What was the condition of your tranny mount?
Flip the cross member over to the other side
What did you sey your caster to after installing everything?
i dont remember off the top of my head. i typically like to get caster in the 6° range and fine tune from there
Hey, on my XJ there are studs on each side for the trans crossmember. How did you remove yours?
the easiest way to remove the studs is to thread 2 nuts on to the stud and lock them tight together. then put a wrench on the upper nut and turn it out. since its jammed against the bottom nut it will pull the stud out of its threads in the frame. sometimes you need to use heat to help the process but this is how i have always gotten them out, even very stuck ones

How much does that drop the transfer case
i do not believe it dropped it at all, maybe a very small amount if anything. the new crossmember is more low profile but doesnt sit any lower than the factory one so it may have dropped it that difference

I'm definitely not a fan of how the Trans mount nuts stick down on the cross member
its actually just the ends of the bolts. the nuts are fully recessed into the skid, you could easily take a 1/4 inch off the ends of the bolts and have them flush with the bottom of the plate

Worry a liiiiite about ground clearance🤦♂️,I mean lower arms are gonna hit lots of rocks...just saying🤷♂️. Overall great video 🙋🏻♂️
yes the lower arms will be flipped. otherwise, as with all long arm kits, they are more susceptible to rock hits, which is why theyre built much stronger than the factory arms

@@sergvegas5446 yeah i was a little dissapointed with their listing for the kit, but their instagram showed enough pictures and i found some info on xj pages so i knew it was the kit to go with
