  • We've been Panasonic LUMIX users since day one! Now that Panasonic released a camera with PDAF (phase detect autofocus) naturally we rushed to an Auckland store who's got one in stock an is available for testing.
Our goal is to know if we'll be able to adapt our EF lenses to this new L-mount body with the help of an adapter (Sigma MC-21).
Thank you Photo Warehouse for allowing us to test the camera.

interesting, in 1080p it seems to struggle, looking forward to a fw update or statement by panny.

Looks like it works really really good.
I see the white balance shifting, is there anyway to lock the AWB? I dont mean setting it up before the shot, just letting awb decide but lock it after you start shooting.

There could be a way to do that. I'll see once I visit the shop again and test another S5II.

    Very helpful👍
Wonder if Tamron EF lenses will also work. I have Tamron 24-70mmG2 and 35mm 1.8VC that I use on my Sigma Fp using MC-21 but the AF performance (AF-S) is not at all good.

The G2 have faster focusing motors. Theoretically they should work fine but best is to test. I have not had the chance to test it as I am flat out filming every weekend and editing during weekdays. It's coming to the end of wedding season now in NZ so I am looking forward to do more testing.

Thanks for the tests. It is a shame that in 1080p full frame 50 or 60p, that the S5 II / S5 IIX only have contrast-detect AF. Hopefully there will be firmware that will allow phase-detect AF to work in 1080p full frame at 50p / 60p. Also, the rolling shutter in full frame 1080p is pretty bad :(

Hey does S&Q mode on the S5II work with the MC-21 adapted lenses?

Full frame in all of the test clips.

@@matafilmssigma 18-35 in full frame? Are you sure?😀

@@danteeprem camera automatically switched to crop mode with a crop lens. Still works perfect.

@@matafilms I'm using exactly the same equipment. For my MC-21 this sigma lens works as FF lens also, only like 30-35mm without visible vignetting. The only issues are autofocusing at 60p+ at APS-C mode.

af doesn't perform well in 1080 50p but performs well in 25p. strange !!

I know right? It's a big deal really, not to be able to AFC at 50p. I hope it's a software issue and not a hardware issue.
