Early tests are showing the Sigma MC-21 now works in CAF mode with the new S5, mk2 which now has PDAF. So I'm hoping the Viltrox EF-L adaptor will also work as it is cheaper and more compatible with EF lens's
@@aviramestudi I have used CAF in photo mode while shooting wildlife. The focus isn't as quick as a native lens but it does work. The keep rate isn't very good but I think for slower moving subjects it will do the job. The lens I was using was a Canon 70-300mm IS USM F4 - F5.6. I think you will get varied success depending on the lens used.
I got the non pro versiom. Works great on the S52 on AFS and AFC with Auto focus and IOS, Aperture etc. I only have a 18-135 EFS lens but up to 100mm is fast focus but at 135m m very slow but works.
But how does it compare to the same lens on a compatible camera ? What camera are you using again ? Thanks 🙏 the image quality should not have anything to do with the adaptor because there is no glass inside it like in a speedbooster
Dear friends, have you tried the change from A to O (original) with a lens? Could it, if not fitting demage the camera? Is the AF quicker in O mode? Thanks for any information on this topic. Best regards from Peter
у меня несколько объективов не работали в режиме O на s5ii но в положении A всегда работали.. хотелось бы узнать в чём режим работы O лучше чем A? может кто то знает?
hi thank you for your video . I tried to updating the adapter viltrox ef-L Pro's firmware but i didn' find on the web site of viltrox . it's very strange . how can i updating the firmware ? thanks
Why does it takes so much time loading the camera when the adaptor is attached, and its loads the camera so fast when using an old adaptor or no adaptor!?
Why is no one talking about the infinity focus issues with this adapter and the S5ii? I've tested it on every Meike FF cine lens, canon lens etc and they all fall soft at infinity. Anyone else have this issue?
I've just bought a this adapter and a Samyang 14mm f2.8 MK2 for astro. I've not really tried to take any real shots yet but a quick test with a tree down the road seemed to give me soft results. I'll play some more but I'm gonna be disappointed if I can't get sharp infinity focus since that's the whole point for me.
Good question, I don't have that lens or adapter. I understand not all combinations work with all adapters even though they fit. Some get firmware updates that can fix the incompatibilites.
Nothing much seems to work for EF lenses on the SL. Unless someone knows otherwise. Specifically the 50mm f1.4 which I really like. It works on my GFX but the SL is very resistant to EF adapters for some reason. The SL2 is fine however. @@DamianBrown
And here we are in 2023. Happy New Year Damian.

This is good to hear!!!
with the s5ii the vilttox have continous autofocus and face detect?
@@aviramestudi I have just bought the Viltrox EF-L and can confirm it works with CAF on the S5ii in video mode. No jitters or focus hunting.

@@DamianBrown what does the O/A switch affect?
@@DamianBrown really can i use the afC mode with tracking af on person or animal in still pictures (single or multi shoot)?

I'm only really interested in the experience on my L mount gear :(
I was thinking the same thing. The lens auto focus performance isn't necessarily anything to do with the adapter.
HNY Damian continue with your excellent reviews in 2023 all the best
You better cameo in some of the 2023 test shots :D
Which Canon 200mm L lens are you using here? My Canon 200/1.8L sucks with MC-21 keen to find a better option.
Canon 200mm f2.8 USM II, cost me around 400 second hand.

So if someone is planning to use their S5II with Canon dSLR lenses for landscape and portrait (no sport or wildlife) this should be perfect? 😊
In theory yes!! Word is with the mkii the AF is better with this adapter too
Otherwise which other adaptor is out there better than this one ?
@@STONJAUS_FILMS for me it wasn't a question on whether there's an alternative, but whether it can work at all

Sorry for the very late reply!

EF-S 10-22 does not AF, latest viltrox ef-l pro firmware does not seem to support it.
Thanks for the update!
would have been amazing if they had put in a E.V-ND electronic variable Neutral Density filter
That would be cool

@@DamianBrown yes, i didn't update sigma mc21. Hope in viltrox it'll works fine. Thank you. 👍
Is AFC works too? You didn't try this mode
I think I said it doesn't work :)
Every lens i tried, it switched the camera back to AFS. Still hoping somebody brings one out with AFC!
Did it works with the Lumix S5?

Doesn't work on Leica SL
Thanks for the heads up
