If the they had the escape scene from the theater cut and a more sympathetic Loomis from the director's cut together, this would be almsot perfect, along with the added dialogue between the Strode parents
I can see it.
Someone will do it, eventually. Just like they did with the Star Wars Remasters.
I agree. Some better editing could’ve made this a much better movie.

One of the many reasons Dead Meat is one of my favorite channels. James isn't scared to say what upsets him, and even brings down the time on the video because the rape scene upsets people, him and viewers alike, and because he actually talks about how he really feels on these touchy subjects instead of just bottling it up. 11/10 man. Great job.
@Mooky Blaylock it's a step up from a lot of people these days
kaine bolts yeah but the difference with that and the novel is that it’s a paper with text however the Halloween part is you seeing what happens with noises and stuff
Austin King an unnecessary rape scene made purely for shock value isn’t exactly something I’d consider ripe for overreaction. If your gonna use that shit, it better be important to the plot. And no, Michael Myers being portrayed as an anti hero by killing rapists isn’t important to the plot, especially when the theatrical cut makes him more cunning and terrifying by escaping multiple armed guards.
Yeah the guard killing scene in the theatrical cut was better.
While I love Rob zombies version of Halloween. The rape scene was way too much. I have friends who were raped.
Although I do think Rob Zombie is a talented film maker I do think his use of sexual assault and rape really doesn't add anything to the plot and is used more for shock value and it seems cheap and not well thought out. Even hearing about it made me upset since I just feel like stuff like that especially if it goes on for that long is just too far
I've had the director's cut for years, and that scene made me feel uncomfortable. So much so, that I generally would skip it when watching the film. I agree with you that it was just added for shock value, and that it was unnecessary.
He has a deeply troubling view of woman and it seeps into everything he does, it's a shame because I think theres some actual merit to his music and directing but the slimy grossness always gets in the way of enjoying it
@@nataliealphonse4634 it really is very dissapointing cause I really do like some of his stuff. It's just overshadowed by all the gross content
I feel like many remakes made took on a very rapey tone and did went further into explicit sexual assault in general. If you look at the TCM remake, we have Hyott (hope that's how you spell his name, Sherif asshole), it's in the nightmare on elm street ( I mean, do I have to explain that?) and even Friday the 13th has such a different feel to it. Friday was always full of nudity but the way it was filmed is just so uncomfortable.
Rob Zombie however completely overdid it. That was far beyond taste. Using such a heavy toned thing as shock value, just to make a point about Michael not caring is so disrespectful to the actual pain victims go through in real life.
As someone who barely escaped an attempted rape a few years ago, this scene is the reason I never watched the film and can barely watch the cut comparison showing only parts of it.
@@juliameyer10313 I seriously have no idea why they didn't just use a different thing to show Micheal being heartless. Or just not do the scene since we already know how heartless and now little he cares for anything or anyone around him. It's unnecessary
I work at a movie theater and as I was working in the concessions area and ringing up a family that was about to watch the new Halloween movie, their son was trying to interject to talk about all the older Halloween movies. He was saying, "never trust a fire to put down Michael Myers", and then he asked me, "have you seen the Kill Count for any of them?"
Because it was so busy and they were trying to get to their movie, I didn't have the opportunity to talk to him or the family at all, but I was floored to see this young kid getting to watch horror movies with his family and watch your videos on them! Thanks for all the great content and for giving people of all ages a channel where they can enjoy and talk about the movies they love.
Steve Couch yeah I’m younger and use to hate horror movies but know my favorite movie is Night of The Living Dead
@kaine bolts I doubt it
@@joejohnson5242 Idk how young you are, but it's great seeing younger generations appreciating the classics! Night of the Living Dead, Psycho, and Nosferatu are among my favorite movies of all time.
sharksandsheep I’d include the Invisible Man and Frankenstein. Those movies are legends
@@dweetsauce8513 mostly the ones that started horror
Normally, rape scenes in media don't bother me. But what bothers me about the one in Halloween is the fact that it's pointless. There's no reason to include it. It's not necessary to the plot, or anything. It's nothing but shock value. And it feels cheap. We should be shocked and scared of Micheal, not shocked at some hillbillies. Also, Micheal is a little bit less scary when you're rooting for him to kill someone.
DrBrainzzz Yeah, I feel like that’s a fair criticism unlike people complaining it’s too grotesque. It’s a lot more objective to say that since it didn’t do anything for the movie at all. It is awfully annoying when people complain about rape just because it exists like in Goblin Slayer
EggsAndRice it added to the film! It can be used as a way to show the people and environment he’s been in for 15 years..? It can show what could’ve been the catalyst for this psychotic break and subsequent escape..? His mother was clearly abused and assaulted by his dad or stepdad whoever it was, so that could’ve been the thing to officially set him off for the rest of the movie🤷🏽♂️ if you say it didn’t add anything you shouldn’t be anywhere near film 😂 could it have been done differently? Yea. Did it do nothing like y’all are tryna proposition? Fuck noo babbbaayy
In my opinion i dont think the rape scene is too bad. It adds to an idea that michael is just one of many psychos and the hillbillys are a perfect example of that. In this scenario we choose the lesser of two evils and ultimately have 1 deranged person kill 2.
@@michaelsoper98 You appear to have misread. That rape scene has nothing to do with the first 45 minutes of the movie.
michaelsoper98 he obviously was already psychotic before. It doesint seem like something you can say triggered it when it seems the rest of the movie he just kills who gets in the way of his objective. It’s also more then likely not the environment he’s been in because they never touched his masks. In all that time if they were doing that consistently they probably would touch his masks within a few months at most. I don’t have any issues with the rape being in the movie, but it doesint seem to do much special anyway.
I didn't care for the "Rape Escape" either, it's completely Pointless.
Breaking the cuffs and killing the guards scenes is so much better.
I'm not a fan of how rob Zombie handles rape in his movies. It's such a touchy subject and if you can't handle it with respect and do it right then don't put it in your movie. The scene in this movie goes on for too long and it's too explicit. It feels like a cheap way to shock the audience and make it more 'disgusting' or 'disturbing'
@@PicklesNicklesmore of the baseless parasitical spewage of having a altered perceived worldview of Humans or the world in general...
'respect' - i wonder what's your idea of 'respect' means regarding something such as that scene in the movie...

YEAAH, HE SAID IT!
I like how Loomis actually seems to really care about Michael
He's the only glimmer of hope in his life, but at the moment Loomis enters Michael's life, he already feels unworthy of that hope and he pushes him away. It shows just how utterly hopeless the entire situation is. He never stood a chance.

Its refreshing to see people call out these hard to watch unnecessary rape scenes.
Remember someone had to write this, act it out, and film it.
What did it add? A reason for Michael to kill? He's never needed one before.
Bleh
Thomas Webster
How about allowing Michael to escape to further the plot? How about killing two trashy human beings instead of 4 innocent people?
Easy with trading lives, are we, Thomas? You need to invest some points into your barter skill, boi
@steel barter You do realize that Micheal is the bad guy, right?
Lily Jarman
You say it like it affects something I said. Or something at all
In the theatrical cut he didn't need to be allowed to escape. He just murdered the guards then got out. Didn't need to have 2 rapists touch his masks to set him off like in the director's cut. And Michael's supposed to be a monster who kills both the innocent and the guilty not an anti hero who only kills the guilty.
It's Rob Zombie, if you know anything about Rob you know he loves doing that shit. Rape scenes, necrophilia, violence, all that shit, just listen to his music or watch some of his other movies, great stuff but pretty dark.
These cut comparisons always make me want to re-assemble the film with the best of both versions for my own personal viewing. Great job highlighting not just what’s different but also why it matters.
1:01 - The shot of Loomis walking back into the car was supposed to give a sense of relief, that everything was calm and unsuspecting. We see the background of the house as well, which is supposed to deceive the audience into thinking that Michael is truly dead.
That's actually a good point.
Unless you're already familiar with the previous films, to which you pretty much know right away that Michael's clearly not dead.
@@NitPickz Its a remake though. It was supposed to sorta remake the first one, and in the first halloween it ended at that point. They even had the same last line "was that the boogeyman?".
James giving Dee Wallace the love and attention she deserves warms my fucking heart :")

@@JJ-pe5om wait its out already!???
Maybe the reason they wrote the nurse as antagonistic (saying Michael’s sister couldn’t be related to him) was to remind the audience he has a soft spot for her since he kills her out of anger.
I definitely agree that the theatrical version’s escape is way better. It makes Michael that much more menacing, while the rape scene is downright filth and allows him to escape by pure chance.
Other than that I enjoy everything else in the director’s cut. Switch out the escape scenes and that would be the “ultimate version” for me.
I honesty wish there was a "Final Director's Cut", where we got the best of both cuts. No bad escape scene and keeping the stuff that made Loomis and the parents much better. Probably would have added only a few minutes in total, but would just be so much better as a whole.
Surprisingly they did, whenever Halloween 2007 ever shows in cable television, they use both versions of the film.
Fun fact: The guy who played Joe Grizzley was also the Dad in Kenan and Kel.
The more you know
I don't know what that is.
Besides, I only know Ken Foree from this movie, TCM 3, Phantom of the Mall & Dawn of the Dead.
@@NitPickz Kenan & Kel was a sitcom on Nickelodeon starring Kenan Thompson & Kel Mitchell who'd previously been on Nickelodeon's "SNL for kids" All That.
fun fact: you die if you got bit by a snake, spider any other dangerios animal or get infected by a virus or get a decease or die from age
I think it's very interesting how different two versions of a movie can be. There are huge changes like the sanitarium escape scene and even small ones like a bit of variation in the colour grading. Sometimes you can see that the director's cut is a tad bit warmer in colour. Thanks James for doing these cut comparisons. You can learn a lot from your videos ❤

You didn’t talk about Michael showing Dee Wallace Loris picture and her screaming no not my baby before he kills her, that’s my favorite part of the movie
I've only seen the Director's Cut, the dialogue and the rape/escape scene is so distasteful. This is actually what turned me off from Rob Zombie's version. The dialogue is nothing that normal people exchange, and only sleazy directors will add in such a violent rape scene to make it a way for Michael Myers to escape.
I wanted to see Michael in shackles like I saw in the trailer. But, no. I didn't get that. Probably why there wasn't a Halloween 3 and instead we got a LegaSequel 10-years after the fact. Maybe to wash out the bad taste left by the poor decisions on later releases of the film

As Bim and Nichole would say, I'm not trying to give out cookies, but I appreciate James for calling out an unnecessary rape scene and for choosing to not even show the footage in this video. It's so important for men to call out unnecessary depictions of sexual assault. People of all genders have to work together to dismantle rape culture.

I saw Halloween (2018) yesterday!!! I absolutely loved it and it's a really nice addition to the series and I think it's the perfect conclusion the Micheal and Laurie's storyline.

I totally agree. James has earned my never ending respect for addressing that it was unnecessary and the theatrical cut was fine for his escape. That scene was explicit, drawn out, and extremely upsetting as it was gratuitous.

It kinda makes me happy to know that Michael will actually spare some people

hey, i wanted to thank you about speaking on how distasteful that unnecessary sexual assault scene was. you’re an influential guy and it gives me hope that young boys into horror movies will hear your denouncement of it and know that its not compelling/groundbreaking to include sexual violence and we shouldnt praise it as such. you’re a really great guy james. i appreciate it a lot as a female horror fan
i'm glad other people feel the same. It felt like something an edgy highschooler would put in a script to make it "dark", but it just comes off as unnecessary and cringe.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m being too sensitive about that scene, but I’m glad to hear it’s as much of buzz kill for others and it’s not just me.
Like even if it drags on longer than it needs, the good bits added by the director’s cut look dope! But then there’s that epitome of unnecessary that drags it all down. And even worse, what really eats me about it, is that it exists in place of an absolutely badass scene in the theatrical version that has narrative function is establishing Michael as a brutish juggernaut of a unit.
I was 12 when I watched the movie and I was angered by that scene even then. It's even worse now since my fiance has been raped multiple times. The thought of it just fills me with rage
Only good part of it was Michael killing them for it.
Just thank Michael for ending the rape scene earlier :/

My respect for James went through the roof for giving his honesty on how upsetting that grotesque scene is in the film. Never change James 👌
I honestly think it's ridiculous. How can you watch people get brutally murdered and killed when it happens in real life often, but a completely survivable R**e scene happens and THATS where you all draw the line. That stuff happens too in real life pretty often especially in prison areas so I don't get how all the murder and death and stuff like that doesn't phase you but that scene does? Being tortured to death is way worse than being R**ed. Movies have shown way worse than that, so I don't see what the big deal is.
@@guitarsandcars2586 you are weird.
@@guitarsandcars2586 Right on the money.
@@guitarsandcars2586 It's because of what people can relate to. Can't really say it's often that someone relates to a serial killer murdering them or someone close to them. 2:14 Juni Cortez hahaha you’re hilarious for using Darryl’s “Spy Kids” character name!!!!
The DC escape was more honorable to the original series, Michael getting lucky and taking an opportunity makes more sense than him going full Sabertooth berserker and busting out. I personally loved seeing the Devil's Rejects getting re-murdered and everything, great show of violence and brute force but we see that when he kills the trucker in the bathroom. 🤷♂️
Ryan Subang As satisfying as their deaths were, it was not worth the scene leading up to it. In my opinion, they could have just had Noel and Kendal come in to beat up Michael, being assholes. The rape part of the scene was just too much.
Ok then don’t have them rape a girl. It would’ve been fine if RZ just had them walk into mikes room and start antagonizing him. Have them start smashing his masks or something. Didn’t need a way too long rape scene to accomplish mike taking advantage of an opportunity
