I have this airplane and can’t say enough good things about it. My field has both grass and a paved runway. I always fly off of the pavement. It is one of the most stable and easy to fly airplanes I ever had. If the cg is right, it is a sweetheart. As far as it having too high of a wing loading, I totally disagree.

I think I mentioned in the video that it would be better on pavement. It’s trash on grass.

@@BigTRC100 I flew it off the short grass at our field. It’s possible to fly it if the grass is well cut. If you hold some up elevator in the beginning of the takeoff roll and gradually release it as it gains speed , it’s ok. It is tricky, though.

The CGI balance? That's funny, right there.

You need to look up taildragger take-off techniques, because everything you're doing there is wrong. Sorry to be so blunt, but you are just taking the wrong approach in every way.

Well this was the absolute first time I had ever flown this plane and it was after it had been crashed by another pilot.
Now that the plane is trimmed out it will not be erratic once it leaves the ground but technique had nothing to do with it. It was a heavy plane plus small wheels plus grass.

Come on man that's fixable easy. We have a grass runway and found that if we put a few washers under the rear screws, We found that war birds work better on grass runways. It moves the the wheels forward and makes it easier to take off.

The landing gear is weak but the main issue is the weight of the plane for the landing gear. Thanks for the fix idea though.

So many tail dragging warbirds struggle with grass. To be usable they need to be small enough for hand launch/belly land or else big enough to cope with grass. If its too big to hand launch and too small to cope with grass then you need a tarmac runway.

I agree 100%. This plane is way too heavy for its wheels. I would hand launch it if I wasn’t afraid to break a prop every time I land.

@@BigTRC100I wonder how many foam RTF warbirds get used once and then discarded. Its almost dishonest selling some of them without a health warning on the box. Maybe something like: "Not for grass. Hard runways ONLY".

Why would you not put a six channel receiver to get rid of the gear. This is a great plane. I think you’re not set up right. I have dozens of flights on mine. Love it

I didn’t have another receiver on hand, It was set up fine, the landing gear are very very flimsy.
Once trimmed out it flew great. The gear couldn’t handle the grass.

to high of wing loading ,,,you cant fix that,,

You also need a bigger battery for nose weight. 3200 -4000 4s. Warbirds like the nose weight.

    • @BigTRC100

It was perfectly balanced with the 2200. The issue was the gear.
