I love the higher pitch siren as it seems like it can reach a longer distance and is ear piercing. I can hear those sirens from a better distance than the others.
FS 2001-DC Roundback: YOU ARE IN THE RESCTRICTED AIRSPACE!! DIVERT YOUR COURSE, OR YOU WILL BE SHOT DOWN!!!!!!! Tornado: okay. I will divert course now😭😭😭
Thanks! I timed how long it took to activate them from EAS to DTMF drop and it was a whole 10 minutes. The phone EAS alert took 15 minutes however. Next time I hope it’s not pouring rain so I can run to that round back.
Montecat 33 yeah that’s way too late considering average lead time on a TOR is about 12 mins (I think). Really they should be going off within about a minute of each other.
@@progenitor_amborella I believe that my county activates their sirens about right after the TOR header tones are broadcast through the local NOAA weather radio station that serves my area.
Federal Signal mechanical sirens have a duty cycle of 15 minutes. Running them for 10 minutes at a time isn’t necessarily recommended but it won’t hurt them.
counties in my area activate the siren networks in alert for 3 minutes. i believe the sirens go off every 5 minutes or so. they continue activating them every 5 minutes until the warning expires.
When I heard the tones come through yesterday I was like SIRENS!!!! Then I ran downstairs with my phone going BEEP BEEP BEEP. I only got a video of my Model L not the P-50.
I go to UW-Whitewater and we got hit by the same storm. I’ve never experienced a thunderstorm quite like that. No siren activation here though. Glad you guys are safe
@@Montecat33 You guys are lucky you got sirens to record. The only sirens I was able to record were the Arlington (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH TEXAS DAMMIT!), Tennessee sirens. They are tied into the Memphis, TN siren system so they go off every Wednesday at 3:30 PM CST. Here in my hometown we have no sirens to record until you go across the Alabama Border, to the nearest siren which is 4 hours away! That would take a lotta courage to do!
Fr, especially the older ones. The first time I heard a 2nd generation 2001, it was extremely loud from 400 feet and made me cover my ears which a 130 didn’t do. IMO the older ones are very good, especially if you give them better controls
I agree. I don’t understand why people (mostly kiddies who watch TSM) say 2001s are bad. Older 2001s have a cooler pitch than the newer ones. 2001s deserve better.
This video was good! Very CREEPY too! There were tornado sirens going off for practice when i was downtown Wednesday and I was trying take a video but it was too late. But next month if it does it again I need to go out there and audio recorded
@@spanishFriedEggsOnRUclips it was brown? what a strange colour to pick. I wonder if it was painted brown or if they had the colour impregnated into the fibreglass
I guess this 2001-SRN/DC roundback replaced a ACA Hurricane 130 MK-l because of a partial system failure from a tornado warning in 1989. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACA_Hurricane
Possibly, all 3 of their hurricanes were replaced, and their system was expanded with more sirens. It’s possible that this one did, or this could have been an addition.

Sadness. The p-50 probably would have sounded better with the storm.
