    Really good idea about the larder unit. I'm about to fit a new kitchen and we were all set to have the pull-out type. Having now listened to your idea about having individual pull-out drawers, we think it's a much better idea! Thanks for that. I really like your channel - full of really good ideas. Looking forward to the next one!

    Well... I had no idea that the internal drawer had a clip option. And to add to my embarrassment, I finally know how to use the cutlery tray in my dishwasher now! You nailed this one!! Great video.

    5:58 you can usually change the hinge to the other side, I have with my washer, dryer, and fridge. Don’t let your appliance doors limit your options!

    Good point on laundry! I have my washer on the right in the basement and had thought about moving my laundry to the 2nd floor so it would be close to the bedrooms and the washer could go on the left. My bathroom backs up to the room where I wanted to move them, so I had thought about enlarging the bathroom and stacking the washer and dryer near the outer wall where they could be vented outside. But that would mean if the washer door couldn’t be reversed or didn’t open 180° that it would be claustrophobic to use. That’s something I hadn’t thought about!

    I keep running into plan sets that have a refrigerator in a corner or next to a wall. LOL. Seems like customers want a French door frig with a drawer in the bottom, but they need to have room on both sides! I like 15 inches minimum. Then toss in a countertop depth that's getting taller every year. Hahaha. I'm in SW Washington State.

    I like the idea of a drawer within a drawer for things I don’t use as often in the drawer that doesn’t automatically pull out. I’m not sure if IKEA cabinets have the clip.

    Michael, what would be an appropriate use of a large cabinet with doors versus a pull out drawer.

    I've been ruminating over details in my new galley (I have a galley space and can't afford to demolish half the house to rebuild in a more open style) for a couple of years. My first decision was to get away from an electric range and go for a gas cooktop with an electric convection oven. It would have been easy to set the oven under the cooktop in the space where the range currently is, but when I saw such an installation at Home Depot and went through the motions of pulling a loaded roaster I found I couldn't stand without a great deal of pulling up by the cooktop. I'm not getting any younger, you know.
    I'm working now on a design that puts the oven under a 48-inch high countertop with a large drawer for things I'll never use under the oven (Grandma's 1918 wedding present bone china, etc). There will be a tilt-out drawer under the cooktop, a heated warming drawer below the tilt-out and a matching stainless pot-and-pan drawer below that. If there's still room, I'll put in a toe-kick drawer.

    I'm planning on building my dream home in 2 years, and your videos are very helpful 😊
    if you don't mind I have a question about what to design first? Design the kitchen first and lay-outing the rest of the house or vice versa? I like an open-concept house, so I imagine my dream kitchen and building around it but I'm not sure if this is the best and most effective layout, of course, we'll hire an architect but I like to imagine things first and then consult with the professional, sorry for a long story,
    Thank you very much, you brighten my day, good job on a very detailed video 😄🤩👍👍👍

    • @kitchinsider
      @kitchinsider  2 года назад

      Planning your dream home sounds amazing!
      If you know the kitchen layout you would really like and you can design the house however you like (within reason). I would just tell the architect what you want, so the two can be designed together and work with each other.
      Thank you for the kind words. 😊

    I Wish a kidney shaped corner unit would fit in my Granny flat kitchen!
    That cupboard has a narrow opening, so it's bend and reach back (several Waste bins fit with two angled to the side, I currently have the recycling in there, and a few other things)
    I've just moved in (daughter and son in law built out for me!) - the stove is coming out, as it interferes with that door and drawer above opening - and I'm campaigning for an induction cooktop (Rather than radiant electric cooktop!)
    I think the cabinet on order for under the cooktop will have shelves, so I'll get bins or a system I can pull out!
    My daughter's kitchen has lots of drawers, including a tall pantry with individual pull out drawers - love it!

    • @kitchinsider
      @kitchinsider  Год назад

      Sounds good! I'd definitely try and get that induction cooktop, rather than electric. 👍

    I love the tray on the top of the dishwasher. I'm all for good function as well. I read a UK magazine that shows more UKers are having washing machines but on second floors. Has that been the case or is that just the magazine?

    • @kitchinsider
      @kitchinsider  2 года назад

      Yeah, I think that's a great functional feature!
      It's not something I'm personally seeing (maybe it's a new trend?).
      I see more people creating a separate utility room off of the kitchen to house the washing machine and tumble dryer (if they have the space). It's always great if you can get your washing machine out the kitchen though.

    • @TheHappyWhisk
      @TheHappyWhisk 2 года назад

      @@kitchinsider I see that a lot in many areas, too, a little laundry or utility room. We have our washer and dryer in the hallway between the kitchen and bedroom. Anytime it can get out of the kitchen, that's a good thing. I dunno. Could be a new thing. I don't know the name of the magazine but I'll look next time I go back to Barnes. Cheers!

    * Muriple shallow individual drawers are ideal for cutlery , cooking implements and plates stacked flat located close to your dishwasher, cooking hob and small appliance locations which in most kitchens are not obviously seen from other living areas associated with the kitchen.
    So the function takes priority over the more aesthetic design element of the drawer in drawer concept which can be used in the outer or more visually obvious areas such as the other side of an island bench.
    * Blank walls (or tall cupboard sides) alongside access ways and at the blank ends of tall cupboards or other suitable wall spaces can have narrow adjustable shelved cupboards fitted with matching tall doors to provide very accessible storage for a plethora of grocery items and essential kitchen cooking supplies etc.
    The general ideal width of the shelves is only 110 mm giving an overall depth of cupboard with doors of 130 mm if built without a back utilising the wall or existing cupboard or 146 mm if installed with 16 mm thick melamine surfaced board comm9nly used for kitchen cupboard frame construction.
    Providing consideration is given to minimum width access and door widths and handing there is almost always a blank wall space in every design to use this concept. The economical narrow shelving gives easy visual and physical access and provide an amazing amount of very handy storage whilst giving the impression of increasing the size of the kitchen.
    We find it our go to place for condiments when cooking near the working areas and dry foods near casual meals areas.
    * When buying a fridge it is important to consider the side clearance requirements for tbe doors to cupboards, other appliances (wall ovens) or walls. We have found that Mitsubishi fridges require only a 10mm side gap to the doors and have n range of narrow width mulri draw models that although slightly taller provide plenty of storage space and being narrower than usual are a very helpful solution when faced with limited wall length at the design stage. The advantage can be 180 mm or more compared to other brands.
    100 mm off the average width of a family sized fridge and 40 mm plus on each side clearance. And ours (made in Jqpan) has proven to be very functional and reliable.
