      Please be safe the current draw is alot. This circuit has no choke too so it will take as much as it can get from the power supply. I suggest you use an old laptop charger or make/ buy a dedicated power supply. The charger only get around 100 watts of power so for more use a big power supply or use a lead acid battery for a car. The power you saw in this video can be done with 100 watts. To melt the metal you will need more power. 1000 watts would be a good start. Just make anothe circuit. This is not reliable and safe!

    The circuit looks like a transistor based multivibrator. The IGBT needs to be on heat sinks since circuit current is nearly 6.8 Amps. Heating a blade is only for demonstration. If one wants to heat bigger objects the circuit should be scaled up with a good power supply , cooling fan etc. Good work.

    The video description seems kind of disingenuous to me. No mosfet. So, you used something that essentially works exactly like a mosfet. No diodes, except that transistors do have a diode effect. No resistance, except that everything has resistance - the wires, the IGBTs, the caps, the coil. No coil, except that you are using the output coil for a dual purpose. So, essentially all of the no's are either irrelevant or wrong. What am I missing?

    • @zootehnik6662

Since the zvs switches the mosfets at 0volts the mosfet never needs to block a huge voltage and current and will not heat. Also mosfets are better with higher frequencies. This is a nice experiment, but not usable imo.

      😂😂i dare you to try without the zeners and resistors. If you want to see igbt's exploding i guess it will be alright. And you better not use the resistor values you find in ordinary zvs schematics. They are meant to be used between 12 and 48 volts dc. You can do it on 220 but then you need to calculate the resistors for the gates. And use an apropriate choke. Anyway more volts are not needed. The current is the most important thing not the voltage.

    Can you increase the voltage to 36-48VDC to maximize the wattage?

    • @davypeleman3672
      @davypeleman3672 7 месяцев назад

      No because you will destroy the gate of your igbt's wich will be rated for 10- 20volts. For that you need the zeners and resistors. Maybe there are igbt's with higher gate voltage but most will have that threshold. Just build a normal zvs driver. This circuit is not usable. A good zvs driver is more efficient than this piece of junk. This is just an experiment to show it is possible, but it's not a good idea imho.

    • @onestoptechnologies7305
      @onestoptechnologies7305 7 месяцев назад

      @@davypeleman3672 OK, Thanks! Yeah, I think they're rated at about 20V.
      Any idea of the oscillating frequency of a typical ZVS driver? High freq seems to be the key here.
      Do you have any suggestions of things I should look for when searching for a good ZVS circuit?
      Or am I better off just buying a prebuilt driver for +-1KW?
      I want to build a something I can change coil sizes on and power with invertor or batteries.
      Thanks

    • @davypeleman3672
      @davypeleman3672 7 месяцев назад

      @@onestoptechnologies7305 Search for ZVS driver schematic also known as the flyback driver. Steve Ward or Telaundmehr have a nice webpage where you can find it too. This is the best circuit imho. It uses more components but is very reliable and the mosfets will not heat alot. ZeroVoltageCrossing means the mosfets turn off at 0volts. So they don't have to block the current. And so they don't heat alot. This is what makes this circuit efficient and is not hard on the mosfets. I have build many and some are old. They all still work never blown a mosfet with them. The frequency will depend on your heating coil and capacitor combo. They will form an RC circuit. But the frequency is not critical in this application so you can experiment with that. It should however not be too slow. Keep the capacitor below 1uf and you should be good. The longer the coil the slower the frequency. And use the right capacitor it needs to be a film capacitor. Don't use a polarized cap like an electrolityc that would not be good. It will blow up 😅😅. If you want 1kw you will need a good power supply. at 24v that would mean +- 40 amps. Or use 48 volts at 20 amps. That would be 960 watts to be precize.
