Put a thin layer of tape around the central core, this prevents the sharp edges of the laminations from penetrating to the copper windings. We used a fiberglass tape for this. Also prevents damage from thermal contraction and expansion. Also the welding will increase the core losses, so expect the core to get much hotter than normal. We used to design these for various power systems.
This is a project I've wanted to do next year, glad we can learn from your mistake (although I do have two microwaves as well in case I mess up :P) Thanks!
Yeah ! I know. I have mentioned that in the title as well as in the description. Thumbnail text is only a small part of the project title. I choose this text induction heater in the thumbnail because most people recognise metal casting with induction heating only and resistance heating for Aluminum Casting is not very common.
@MrElectron I found it before. Mix 2 chemicals and it produces co2 in a pressurized vessel. I forgot the chemicals but if u can't find it let me know and I'll look for it again. perhaps vinegar and sodium bicarbonate?
Microwave oven transformers are typically only used for half of the AC cycle. There is the filament heater at around 6v and the magnetron cathode that is run through the high voltage diode. Those shims between the primary and secondary affect the inductance of the windings and reduce the current demand. These transformers are NOT designed to be efficient. The eddy currents lost from the welding of the EI core are not really important considering that these are only used for 20 minutes at a time max on average. The welds are to keep the core together and not tear itself apart instead of efficiency. Reuse of the motor windings with the enamel on it is a decent idea. But there are going to be kinks and thin spots that cause excessive heating inside the winding. And just please... Use an Old IEC connector from a power supply or wire nuts or something instead of shoving bare wire into an IEC plug.
Hey Mr electron, I just found a shredder on the side of the road and it has a pretty nice dc motor inside of it with a gear system for high torque. You should get one to test

This is interesting, I have to wonder if it would be safe do so, to not heat the crucible, but heat the aluminium directly. Having two rods in a cucible and the power flowing through the aluminium, kind of like the inside of a mercury tilt switch.
Why don't you make a circular file and melt copper and gold with it? Show us your genius and the knowledge that you possess, because we see a lot of smart videos of you. We ask you to make a metal smelting file on the same transformer, and we will be grateful to you with thanks, appreciation, and greetings to you.✌👌🤝👍🙋♂️✋
Do you think law of conservation of energy can be side stepped using VFD in a classic motor flywheel generator setup...a physicist couple in my state claims to have done so..and they want to build setups for big clients and governments.

Why do you say try not to do these things at home? when most people do those things at home when they're watching videos like this! Only do this at at the risk of your own life sounds like a more important message to send! Don't you think you're doing those things at your own risk ? And you should also mention in your videos that people should gain a better understanding of electricity before doing anything like that!🤔
Also you are plugging that microwave transformer into 110 volts not 220 volts or 240 volts but 110 volts because 220 volts requires two separate hot wires and one neutral wire and one ground wire or two hot wires and one ground wire not just a single hotwire a neutral wire Andy ground wire it's good to educate yourself about electrical stuff the right way an educate people about electrical stuff the right way
Many countries use 240V 2-wire single phase (hot & neutral) instead of 240V split phase (or the less common 3-phase 4-wire open Delta which can do 120, 208, and 240 single phase and 240 3-phase although you can only get up to 208 using the neutral and the wild hot), which matches his comment of having 240V but needing 120 at the start. Lots of safety issues using MOTs but you picked something to be absolutely incorrect about, congrats.
@@CrapperCopter no the appliances that he is using do not run on 240 otherwise the appliances would burn up and that would be a major electrical hazard.

이것은 변압기에 변경된 전압이 3v정도의 낮은 전압 입니다.하지만 그외에 전류가 굉장히 높아,철도 녹일수있는것을 영상으로 보니 기분이 좋았습니다.

Multi enamel parelel wire can avoid eddy curent loss
Its like welding machine😊
Interessante Möglichkeit!
How thick was the cable of your secondary coil?
Came here to say that it is not indicative heat in any way. Only people pointed out before.
What it is though what we would call resistive heat 😊
Sure resistive heat.
How you prevented should while you are touching molten with hands
The welds on the core in those positions have no significant effect on the transformer efficiency.
Actually welding the core increases iron/core losses which results in higher no load losses. I believe efficiency is not the priority for microwaves.
@@MrElectron What I mentioned is welding IN THAT POSITION ON THE CORE has no significant effect on the transformer efficiency!

so is there a risk of blowing the 100A fuse (I think it's 100A) that is in the box where the electricity comes into the house ?
No. Its 100 Amps after stepping it down. At the input, it should only be around 8 Amps
What is voltage in put
And
The voltage output
Please
Help me
Input = 220v and output is around 2.7 volts I believe.

Hello kya aap mere ko primary winding ka details bta sakte ho ki kuan sa wire use kiya gya hai aur kitna turn hai..plz
Primary to pehle se hi installed ati hai to kabhi unwind kar k turns count karne ki zaroorat nai padi. Mere transformer ki Primary Aluminium ki hai.
Thank you reply ke liye pr agar aap bta sko count kr ke to bta do ...
