Someone in an interview said, you might THINK you can fight Haku, but are you prepared to lose an eye, a nose, an ear, your lips, your teeth ? To live physically impaired for the rest of your life ? If you're not prepared to fight to the death like that, then don't even think about it.
I think that may have been Bobby Heenan, but I could be wrong. Great quote either way
Don’t fight a DRUNK Meng 😂
Exactly... That is what sets Haku apart...
The best thing about Haku being brought up constantly when this question is asked is that everyone points out how he's also one of the nicest people ever in the business as well.
He seems like a legit wonderful dude. Which is even scarier in a way. Lol
@@Meatball2022Agreed
They are afraid to say anything bad about him, they see what happened to the last guy who did.
The question should be "Other than Meng...."
Exactly!
The other answer would most likely be "The Barbarian" 😅
@@kristimccabe8288🎯🤤
Rick Rude? Harley Race?
Danny Spivey, Billy Jack Haynes
Scott Norton has the BEST response I have ever heard about Meng...."Not only is he the toughest guy I have ever met, he is The Best Guy I have ever met"! Really says a lot about Meng, but EVEN more about how humble Scott Norton is too. I have always enjoyed Norton's presence in and around The Ring, but to get to hear him speak candidly with James is a real treat! Cheers From Across The Pond In Ohio 👋
For real, Nortons no pussy either.
Been on indy shows with him. He and Barbarian are amazing people. 👏
@@SkylarReed2L I've also read this about Barbarian as well! As a squirt BOTH scared the living chit out of me....but as an adult kid I have total respect for both of them! Cheers👋
Here's another Scott Norton video on Haku. Very similar response

Wrestlers tend to embellish their stories a bit, but when Don Frye said Haku was a scary and frightening human being, that's all the convincing I needed that starting shit with Haku could be extremely hazardous to your health.
To tell you the truth, I think Prime Ken Shamrock (The ‘97-‘98 version that was still bench 550-600) would give ANY wrestler in history a run for their money in a scrap. Mr Wonderful would too. Both athletes and savages
Steve Blackman was another killer!
@@jimclaus1576Other than highly trained professional fighters, historically professional wrestlers are probably the worst guys to fight and plenty of them could beat pro boxers due to many having high level wrestling backgrounds.
Guys like Ken Shamrock, Brock Lesnar, Dan Severn, Bobby Lashley, Sylvester Terkay, Craig Pittman and Danny Hodge were all high level amateur wrestlers/professional fighters. Guys like Bart Gunn, Shinsuke Nakamura, Alberto Del Rio and Rodney Mack all fought and won fights in MMA too.
Peter Maivia, Sika and the rest of the Samoans were known to love a good scrap, Kurt Angle said Rikishi was a legit badass. Harley Race grew up working the carnival scene and was known to have knockout power, Tracy Smothers is another one that gets mentioned as one of the toughest too. Hell even comedy characters like Rico and Santino Marella were legit Martial Artists.
Chris Taylor is another guy worth mentioning, 6'5 400 pound Olympic bronze Medalist in Greco and two time national champion, who's gonna stop that kind of man? I'd definitely pick him to handle a guy like André in his prime.
@@kevthegoat8774 Yeah the wrestling base definitely helps. I mean at the end of the day I would put my money on Kyle Snyder or Sadulaev to beat any modern day HW boxer in a scrap on the street. Then you throw in someone with both wrestling and an MMA background like a Shamrock, Frye or Brock and it’s even more of a safe bet. It’s crazy how many people laughed at the idea of Shamrock beating Tyson in an all out fight in the mid to late 90’s. Lol A lot of peoples minds would have been thrown through a loop had that fight actually happened.
Can you imagine the fucking savage that is Don Frye saying anything is scary 😂😂😂😂 Meng is a tank
Never get tired of Haku or André stories.
The only wrestler i heard was tougher than Meng is Haku! 🤪
I think Meng and Haku would've won the tag-team title. Little-known fact: Meng and Haku never had a match against each other.
Nah, King Tonga beats them all, easy!
I'm digging these Scott Norton snippets so far, can't wait for the full interview 👍
Same. He seems like a great interview.
Cheers James! Really enjoying hearing these stories from Scott.

I heard Steve Blackman was pretty tough too
@@theshawdows Yes he was. Very tough guy 💪💪
Rick Rude was a damn arm wrestling champ at young age so you know he was strong AF. Heard Dan Spivey being another one no one wanted to fuck with.
I'd like to hear more guys talk about Barbarian. He was a badass AND sooo frickin strong.
I don't think he partied as hard as Haku, hence less craziness. I would like to hear a story about Barbarian having to calm a raging Haku.

Even the Steiner Bros said they stayed clear of Ron
I heard that many times about him as well back in the day.
@@GameTime-yj6qvthere’s stories of how he barely trains but would randomly turn up in gyms in jeans and bench and squat more than any other wrestler training and then just dip.
Scott is a legend. Love hearing him.👍
Brad Rhenigans always seems to be the forgotten tough guy.
Norton did say Rheingans was right up there with Haku in an older radio interview
I had a guy tell me something that always stuck with me. He said the security at wrestling events is there to protect the public from the wrestlers not the other way around
I saw a shoot interview with Haku on RUclips, and when he was asked who he thought was the legit toughest pro wrestler, he said Barbarian, and also said he wouldn't want to face him in a shoot fight.
I think he knows it would end with one of them dead and the other one in prison and he dont wants do be either one.
Barb says the same about Haku. He even said Haku us "The Man" according to Arn Anderson. Barb said at 13 years old Haku was beating up grown Samoan adults. He told this story to Konnan
They are brothers to the core. Total mutual admiration. All I know is if they both did have to square off, I wouldn't want to be within a hundred yards from those monsters.
I mean, he's not going to say himself so he went with the next option.
Meng road stories are always the best
Hard to have social anxiety or insecurities when you fear no man
Meng and Barbarian- 2 names that always come up. i would love to have these guys as friends- they are the nicest people, very respectful, polite, and generous. Then there is the flip side of having the 2 best guys in the world on your side in a scrap.
Name dropping Meng, Barb, Steiners and Dom Frye. Thats some serious hard asses.
Mean Gene Okerlund also said Haku and Masa Saito were the toughest. Nice to see Scott Norton mention Saito because he doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
There’s something to be said when 6’ 350 lb muscle dude smiles and says “that guys dangerous”…
Meng was a primal badass reminds me of some kids I knew growing up lived out in the middle of the woods never enrolled in school , I know there was at least 16-17 siblings , we were like 10-11 yrs old I saw one of them same age as me climb up a small tree 30-40ft the tree snaps he falls to the forest floor on his back and jumps up and starts running around playing like nothing had happened I was like wtf , they never wore shoes and grew all their own food all the children were born at home and had never saw an antibiotic or vaccine but those children were the toughest people I ever saw in my life and are the definition of primal badasses .
I like how Scott Norton put all these guys over as bas ass but the cat wouldn't put no one over except him self.
Thats why I only fully watched 1 Cat episode and stopped a minute into a second one and that was it.
Put some respect on Steve Blackman
Bro, Blackman got injured or a tick or something. Kept him out of wrestling for 8 years. Tough as a pair of panties.

Scott Norton is Stone Cold at home.
Meng/Haku all day, you don't question that.
It was Nebraska Cornhusker John Parrella that KOed Hawk in an elevator in Japan after Hawk started a fight with a Kansas State wide receiver. The wrestlers had to drag Hawk away and said they would get even LOL.
Sonny Onno mentioned a story of Masa Saito and Hawk getting into with a bunch of football players claiming that the football players said a racial slur to Masa then Hawk called them out on it, Sonny claimed Masa whooped one of them bad but never mentioned the Hawk getting knocked out story which I've heard for years. Maybe it's a case of Hawk getting knocked out then Masa whooping one of their players in return? I could imagine both sides not wanting to mention that they lost. Bruno and Iron Sheik both claim they took of a CFL player and five of his buddies but then the friends of the football player have stated it was the other way around. Pride and egos always gets in the way of stories like this.
@@kevthegoat8774 This is a famous story in Nebraska but no wrestler ever mentioned it (wonder why) it was way before Sonny Onno's time. The story I heard 35 years ago from people that were there (same story they say today) was Hawk a woman he was with and another wrestler where in an elevator (later I read it was Mr Fuji , WWF was in town) I doubt Chono was involved because WWF was not promoting with NJPW. In this elevator were two Kansas State players. One player a wide receiver (not sure who) apparently was checking out the woman Hawk was with. Hawk said "what are you looking at n____r" (sounds like Hawk) Hawk started fighting and the other player ran and the first person he seen was John Parrella who stepped in and KOed Hawk.
@@kpllc4209 Hmm so is this the story that Norton would be referring too? Again like I said I don't think either side would want to say they took a loss, the way you say it though makes it sound like Hawk was beating the football player until the other one came to the rescue. I don't know where Masa Saito comes into this story but Saito was as strong as an ox with an Olympic wrestling background, I'd favour him to take a young jacked up football player for sure.
@@kevthegoat8774 It is the only story about NU football and wrestlers in Japan I have ever heard. I doubt Norton was there either, so the story grows and gets better, he might be combining other stories he has heard too. One thing I have learned watching shoot interviews is that wrestlers are carnies and will lie about everything. This Hotel would have had both teams (NE and K State) over 100 football players in it at the time, I doubt a huge brawl took place. At the time I defended Hawk by saying the same thing, I assume Hawk was getting the better of the Wide receiver (they are small) but Parrella was a nasty 300lb D-lineman played over a decade in the NFL.
@@kevthegoat8774 BRUNO and the IRON SHEIK did beat their asses. the CFL guy named ROOSTER FLEMING who i also think played for the steelers at one time,[ could be wrong], started it by calling BRUNO washed up. well, BRUNO showed him first hand he wasn't washed up. don't believe the football players because they got wrecked.
Can’t wait for an older guy to say Dr D David Shultz love that guy
Part of the blueprint for the stone cold character too
I'm glad Scott mentioned Bart Gunn cause he doesn't get mentioned enough when it comes to this list. A lot of fight stories with wrestlers are backstage fights or beating up some drunk idiot at a bar, but Bart won a shoot tournament among pro wrestlers. He beat like 4 or 5 guys, legitimately knocked out Dr. Death, Bradshaw, and Godfather. Bart Gunn was for real.
Not to mention he was a regular winner of tough man competitions
Bart also went on to fight in MMA and beat former UFC heavyweight Cabbage Corriera with no training then lose a competitive fight to Minowa in Pride. Bart would have destroyed most Pro wrestlers and that includes guys that get mentioned like Rick Rude and The Steiners.
Trev Alberts and Tommy Frazier were on that Nebraska team. I wonder if they've ever taked about that fight?
i always thought norton is a great guy and very underrated.
I’d love to hear more on him fighting the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Japan? That may be my favorite fight ever and this is all I know about it.
It's funny how he keeps looking over his shoulder like if Haku is going to pop out of nowhere
Was he talking about Masao Hattori?
Masao was (is) a GREAT wrestler. I met him when he was working in Florida in the 70s. Masao was the Japanese collegiate national champion.
Saito was the scariest wrestler at the time in this territory, even though Gotch lived about 20 miles from the Sportatorium. At the time Haku was called Prince Tonga and he was a great athlete but still breaking in.
People used to go after Masao all the time because he was so small. Big mistake.
I watched a fan take a swing at Masao on the way to the ring and Saito grabbed his arm, put it into a double wristlock (Kimura) straightened it, lifted it high and stepped back and turned. Snap- if you blinked you would have missed it, it was so smooth. And then the three of them (along with Mr. Sato) continued back to he locker room like nothing happened.
That was the last we saw of that guy. Never understood why he didn't 'come back.
An obvious tuff guy is Lesnar,280 lbs & probably the second best wrestler of all time & UFC champ. Cmon let's give him his props, he might have only got beat because of colitis or whatever intestinal problem.
Herc being a badass is something you hear about as well.
That thumb story is gold!
Stretched his ankles off?? 😮😱
Norton way underated in WCW. The dude was a beast and could put on a good match with just about anyone. He looks great for his age. Looks like he's only aged like 10 to 12 years from the late 90's.
Coming from Norton that means alot.
When I was a teen in the 90s I thought Scott looked meaner and more tough then most wrestlers. He had that prison bulk.
Back in the day I would walk down any dark alley with Meng or the Barbarian. Total harasses.
WHAT? Norton beat the top lights in the WORLD at arm wrestling, 465 pound barbell press behind NECK? He should be impressed with himself. And close to 700 BP too.
When scott says your the toughest your a bad mf
BRUNO SAMMARTINO is definitely up high on the tough guy list. he sparred with a young SONNY LISTON who was one of the hardest hitting heavyweights in boxing history. he hit BRUNO with his hardest shots and couldn't knock him down. the boxing trainers were so impressed with his ability to take those shots and keep coming back that they tried to convince him to quit wrestling and train to become a pro boxer. that's a true story, not fiction.
I’d like to commend the interviewer on these shows. His really laid back and chilled interview style is awesome. And never once does he look intimidated or fanboyed out by the wrestlers he’s interviewing and it always makes for good interviews.
Why do people mess with people like Meng in public? Personally, I think it's usually just insecurity. They see someone like that at the bar or whatever, immediately realize that they might not be able to "take" him and the petty feelings of inferiority just take over.
Don Frye fought legit professional fighters and tough guys and overcame them. Not drunks in a bar. Wouldn't you say he proved himself a lot more than Haku?
We never hear stories about Haku in actual fights where he is having to take it as well as dish it out. That's the real mark of a badass. And Don has proven more in that way by far. I'm not saying Haku ain't tough or bad. But I can't place him above guys like Frye and Shamrock, who proved it against much more formidable challenges.
I remember hearing a story where Haku walked through 5 cops no problem, took the mace from the 6th female cop, maced himself, and then walked away. Good enough?
@@mpkrist5701 And if you believe that I have some ocean front property in kansas to sell you.

The difference between the Haku and everyone else is that everyone else is just trying to stop the fight with 1 good punch. Haku was usually on the fire water and would literally try and destroy people. When Nick Bockwinkel has to pull you off of some guy in the bar for an imagined sleight, you need to stop drinking the hard stuff.
