when I was younger {20} I had the opportunity to help my good friends family once a month on a pig farm to give the parents a break and since then I understand what work and labour an dedication it takes to put food onto our table ,lessons I have never forgat ,Now I am almost 61 and when I go to buy a nice pork roast those wonderful memories come flooding back.Just remember you are appreciated .
Working from Dawn till dusk tractor driving or bales hay throwing makes for long days. The dairy boys were great athletes because they always worked. All of them are successful because they aren't afraid of hard work. Being a Marine fits just fine because of the same reason. Everyone is looking for the easy way out, learning hard work always pays the best. Good times. Semper FI. Neal
When my daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in 2015, we had to spend a lot of time in St. Louis, out of necessity, over the next few years. I was very uncomfortable in that city environment at first. As time went on, I began to appreciate the differences in our lifestyles. We made many friends who shared the same basic values and desires, they just went about achieving their goals in a very different way, and that's OK. Too often, farmers like myself are guilty of writing off those who are not exactly like us in the way we see the world, in our priorities. It's good to get away from the farm and go somewhere different because it helps to keep us from getting too narrow in our understanding of just how diverse we really are. Ultimately, it makes me appreciate what I have that much more. Thank you, Pete, for being willing to share these thoughts with us. PS: The anticipation is killing me. I'm ready to see the Super C running again.
The latter bit of personal perspective is / was the best part of today's video, in my humble opinion. As we continually grow in affluence and in technological stability, a lot of the basics of life tends to disappear. Without the teaching / learning of where things come from, or how they are processed - the more dependant we, as a society become. We need to continue to hold on to the knowledge of self-dependence in order to be able to survive, should the need ever come. Thanks for the reminder. All of us need that from time to time. Peace.
Pete you nailed it on the head we need to respect each other. I think our country has forgotten that, we need to meet in the middle more not try to force our beliefs on one another. I love you videos thank you for making them.
It's so enjoyable to listen to you no matter what the subject , you're very respectful and down to earth. Keep the videos coming. Many of us live vicariously through you and the wonderful farm life!
Great video. I lived the country life morning to night , from morning milking two cows to evening milking until I was 16. We raised 90% of our food, then I had summer jobs. I hated my life and all the hard work we endured,I looked forward to day I could leave. I have worked for the last 40 years to go back to that lifestyle. 3 years ago on my Great Grandparents Homestead we started our journey to relive that experience. Loved your video.
My son really wants chickens now. When I was his age, I was fortunate to have my grandfathers beef and pork farm. We're in a small town (locally a 'city') that limits what we can do, but they do allow a small number of chickens. Thank you for sharing your farm with us!
Pete, such a joy to see you, and Hillary, and the animals. I love what you are saying about travel. I am glad you are getting travel with your kids. My Dad was career Navy then he went on to work for other Government jobs, but we lived in many places because of his career. I honestly feel like the perspective I gained from living outside of the US was priceless. Makes me value things like Liberty... And freedom of choice.
My parents always taught us kids that respect for others, animals and things was the most valuable tenant of life. I come from dairy farm background but live in a large city now. Each brings its own unique experiences and values to society
Good morning...... I am on the West coast now. I am originally from Pittsburgh PA. Yes I am a die hard fan. The first thing that I do when I am making coffee is to look for a vlog from your farm. Thank you for all of the hours of joyous viewing of your farm. You and your family can keep the snow. I do like the Southwestern climate. Have a nice rest of winter.
Montreal, and Boston are great historical places. Written history is much older in your area. I was awed standing beside a Continental soldier's grave in the Upstate. Thank you Pete.
Your quite the philosophical guy! I so enjoy you inviting us into your life! Love that Hillary, you got a catch when she said yes. By the way I would like to hear that story from you two separately not edited. That would be good. I still remember the moment I knew I loved my wife like it was yesterday and that was 45 years ago . She doesn't remember that day the same at all! LOL.
Pete, I'm down here in Alabama. I have laying hens and I just processed nine freedom rangers and I have 16 more to go to finish them up. I love gardening and being outdoors. I am a retired history teach and basketball coach but came up doing a lot of gardening with my parents and sister. I cherish the knowledge I learned from them over the years. I love your show.
That's why when us "city folk" watch your video we enjoy it cuz life is so much different, winter has a slower pace, you have time to enjoy the family. It's almost like a reprogram one's life as it use to be a long time ago when cities were not as crowded as they are today. Thanks for sharing your life style Pete. See you next time.👍👍👌👌
Pete, so glad you are getting some time to yourself. Bonus that you get to spend some quality time with the kids. Can't wait to see your hard work pay off in the next video.
Hi Mr. Pete! Looks like the livestock is doing well. I'm glad you and the kids were able to get away for a few days. I know how Miss Hilarie feels. I'm a home body too.
Pete- I like how you think and your pragmatic approach in life. Your cattle and pigs look happy! Thank you once again for showing us JJ! He’s going to be very busy with Bossy Pig!
Awesome as usual! Collective roar at the end when they heard about the Super C, " Peeeeeeete, Nooooo..! Mercy, this has been like an ordeal of Are We There Yet, HA! Never have so few been so excited about hearing a Super C start... I know you'll get 'er done. And Bossy Pig is one pretty girl!
Well Pete, I have always stored my hay outside, no barn. I ran a 4x5 twine wrapped from a 654 New Holland baler until 2020, that's when we bought a John Deere 450E net wrap. The spoilage was more on the twine wrap than on the net wrap, maybe 10% or so. I had about the same results as your chopped net wrap stored outside. Two year ago we purchased a tarp made for stacking round bales. We stored 69 bales of 4x5's and started recently using them, I was pleasantly surprised with the result, a lot less spoilage and well worth the money we spent. Sorry for the long comment, loved the video, thanks, have a wonderful week.
I just stumbled across your page, and I must tell you that I had a feeling of peace come over me as I watched. I am a retired farmer in Montana, an occupation that was for me both peaceful and stressful at the same time. Kind of an oxymoron I guess, the economic pressure seemed to become more intense as time passed and economy changed. You are blessed to have a partner that thinks and helps like yourself. Sir, you represent the kind, goodhearted individual that made this country what it is, or at least was. God bless you, and your family, thank you for giving others a peek into what life can be like when a person is doing what he (or she), was gifted by our Creator to do. Blessings.
Amen on your thoughts 🙏. I woke up this past Sunday, and I was excited thinking the final tractor installment was going to be posted that morning.. was so heartbroken not to find it. Lol.. Also, thanks so much for sharing your experiences on the farm 🚜. Really enjoy being a subscriber to this channel
I bet you were grateful to get back to NY. In the country farming. I have family that lives in Westchester County and they seldom leave the city. I myself lived in Boston 30 years and prayed for the day and received to be back in my roots in Maine. Nice to see the city but better to see what we have. Love your videos and the love and care put forth by you and Hillary. I kept looking for a video and now know you were on vacation
Hi Pete! Ken here from Nova Scotia. You picked a nice spot to sit and talk. Seeing the cows eat has always been soothing for me. I personally hate cities. I work around a city and that’s enough of that scene for me. My happy place is in the woods or at my dads farm. A farming homestead in the middle of nowhere would be perfect for me. Can’t wait for your next video. Been chewing at the bit to hear the tractor prrrr.
Pete - I love your perspectives. We take so many things for granted and it's nice to be able to see things through a different lens. I live in the country, farmland and most everyone here commutes into the cities. I get to see both but it sure is nice to come home...to the country. Roosters crowing, cows mooing and riding the John Deere! Have a great week - see you soon!
another great video. I find it calming watching you interact with your livestock and doing everyday chores (farm upkeep) . Your also such a wonderful person to sit and listen to , no matter the talk being farm advice / a story / or just a wise talk. Thanks for sharing with us :)
Not spending so much time foraging for food and more time thinking, planning and building made a huge jump in our civilization's advancement. The pursuit of food was exchanged for the pursuit of knowledge.
I found out things in the country move in there own pace. In the city I felt I had to run on a treadmill and compete with 10 times x amount of people at the same time. I don't regret moving out from the big place to a much more smaller and remote place. If you get sick of people than living for a time away from people can teach you lot of things. I do miss the comfort of a nearby store and getting to go out with like minded people. However the calmness of nature and not having to scramble for your life dose have a very huge mental impact. Something that you can't have in a urban environment.
Pete I just discovered ur channel in December and went back thru and watched every episode and have really enjoyed everything... it's really inspirational for me seeing somebody who made good money before transition to this life style... I have a job myself where I make good money and I'm pretty miserable at it... thank you for all the videos
Glad you got the opportunity to travel, and hope you enjoyed your time in Montreal! I've been living there for nearly 4 years. Really enjoy your videos and perspectives, they help me reconcile my current city lifestyle with my country roots. Keep up all the great work, Pete, et merci beaucoup!
I truly enjoy you sharing your perspective on life and your thoughts and wisdom on different subjects. I sit and ponder life all the time, but I'd never be able to articulate it to others as well as you do. Keep being awesome.
I agree that we all have choices to make. Each individual's perspective and choice is to be respected. Looking forward to seeing and hearing the tractor get running again.
My husband knows I love your channel, so he gave me magnets for the frig that have pigs and cows on them. Now I can walk in the kitchen in the morning and say, "Howdy, piggers!" and "Howdy, cows!" 😊
I've lived on the south shore of Montréal, Québec and work there for 35 years. I loved where my dad built our home back in 1975 with his own hands and ours, was always happy to get out of Montréal, because of the noise, the traffic, peoples impatience and craziness. Now we have people who had bought house or land to built their new homes etc. They moved in our city because they've sold their houses in Montréal for millions and they could get the same homes built in our town for a quarter of their old homes, plus city and water city taxes dropped compared to Montréal. Sadly for people here it gave the locals an increase in city taxes, noise, traffic and having to deal with stressed out and entitled looney's from the big city 😪Now let's hope they don't all buy the farm lands or estates and convert them into cement and asphalt mansions, like they did with Montréal 😌
You seem to be a very easy going guy and are very comfortable to listen too. Your videos are informative and enjoyable to watch. Thanks for posting them!
Pete you have what I’m in the process of doing I’m in the middle of returning my parents farm into a working farm again and you’re a true inspiration to me I love your dexter cattle and your heritage breed pigs I should be ready in the spring and would be interested in buying some cattle and pigs off of you I’m sure then that I’d be getting good genetics to start my operation I’m 57 but when I grow up I want to be like Pete lol thanks for your videos
Another great video and I love hearing your perspective on life at the farm. Mine is that of a city slicker! LOL. It's calming to watch your videos and experience the daily chores you deal with.
Wow Pete, you and your kids were not far from me, when you were in Montreal. What a beautiful City, that I have visited many times in my life, living up hear, and how my ancestors came from, to be in the US. No, I don’t speak French, but my Grandfather did, as even though he was born in raised in Champlain, NY, in the US, that was the language that was spoken to many people, to what is called the French village of that little town. You are a very happy man in your life and in your choices, and it shows in every video you have. Be well, and take care!
Pete, I am just a few years older than you. But I have learned more from you these past few years I could write a couple of books. I adore your antidotes and approaches to life and livelihood on the farm. You are a treasure trove of information and hope you never change. Glad I wondered upon your channel 2 years ago. Thank you and your family very much. Looking forward to many more years of learning. I am happy and quite envious of you. I lost both my parents bout the time you graduated from high school. So all my learning experiences were from memories of how my parents did it or leaning on my uncle's and aunts. Keep up the great work. Keep making those memories with the kids. 50 something years, mine with dad are like a 10,000 piece puzzle just poured out of a box. You know it will be something wonderful once you get it all together. Lot of memories lost or holes in them and no one to fill it up.
Critter fix! I think I heard JJ say "hubba-hubba". Patty was even quiet, wassup wit' 'dat? Glad to hear you're still cool enough to hang out with. I'd trade city life for country life any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. Thanks Pete, always a pleasure.
I watch the videos with subtitles (English is not my first language, and sometimes it helps, if I don't catch something) and when the tractor engine was on, the subtitle said: "music". They must know something :) Finally, a new video! I was missing Bossy Pig and her friends. I was wondering, is Bossy Red's or Brownie's daughter? Do pigs recognise each other, or just don't bother? Thank you Pete for sharing your life and thoughts with us!
So glad to see your video. What a nice way to start my day. Always enjoy your thoughts . You’re always spot on, as far as I’m concerned. I should’ve been a farm girl just never got the chance. I’m certainly not a city girl though so I constantly find my self stuck in the middle. I like my garden and have planted fruit trees and try to impart the ideas of self sufficiency and sustainability to my daughter and SIL. If I were a younger and more able bodied woman, I would’ve like to had had a small farm like you but alas it is not meant to be. Please keep up the awesome videos they mean so much to me and I can’t believe I’m alone in this. I’m glad you had some great travel adventures with your kids, they’ll never forget it…well not for a long time anyway. Have you ever thought about offering pig sponsorships? Maybe a stall in your new pig barn. I’d love to do that…not for me…for a pig. 😮
I hope you have a great day Pete I know I will I have no school due to snow and we are supposed to get 8 inches. I can’t wait to see the farmall C restoration complete. See you in the next video.
God bless our farmers! Thanks for sharing Pete. I always enjoy watching your videos. I usually find something to take note of and I jot it down in a notebook. This video was no different- I found a gold nugget I needed. Great job & Keep them rolling!
I sincerely, enjoy your videos. I try dozens of other farmers, and frankly, it creates anxiety while watching them unfold their work. I feel I am working the farm instead of enjoying learning. Your segments are relaxing, informative and enjoyable. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to the next one.
I like the cows ,but for me the pigs are where it's at. Really looking forward to seeing the super C back up and running. Sorry to hear about the loss of the pig. Just drives up the cost on the others. God bless and have a good week.
Pete, my husband and I really enjoy your videos. We both grew up on farms in rural Vermont. We look forward to your videos. When you took your children to Montreal you weren’t very far from us. We live in central Vt. On the New Hampshire border. Keep up the good work. Audrey
Loved the talk, I've always been on both sides of the "urban vs country living" debate. I like both though, they each have their own pros and cons. Really enjoyed the point I think you were trying to make though, about being connected to everything that supports you. It's a nice way to live.
Hi Pete. I found your channel a week or two ago and I have since watched most of your backlog, and was waiting for a new video to say hello. Thanks for taking us along on your work day.
Thank you, Pete and Hillary. 3 years ago we purchased my dream farm on 23 acres and almost have all the infrastructure done. My wife retires this year and our new farm adventure begins….I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Can’t wait until the grand kids are old enough to put them work. Lol
Here is something that shocked me. In the United States all the population live in the top 1% in the whole world. Shocked? Me too. I think kids need to learn and experience that. When we go on vacation makes us appreciate where we live more. Good talk Pete. Neal
Thanks for another nice video Pete and Hilary :) In my experience the people I come across have no idea the difference between living in the country ( living self sufficient) and city living. I have lived in both. I prefer country hands down. Living in America we have it good. As far as availability to things. Flip a switch for so many things. Hop in a car and go anywhere. Most people haven’t developed skills to survive without these luxuries. Soon they will wish they had. I feel learning new skills is so important. Thanks again. Really enjoy your videos Pete. God bless !
Great thoughts Pete. American freedom and choice. The choice taken to farm reminds me of my favorite short story discovered during high school - Land by Sinclair Lewis. Hope you guys have a great week. Looking forward to the Super C start up.
How do you guys handle rats? I do not think I have seen a rat video yet about farm. Alot of small farms have a Terrier or multiple cats patrolling the property. I know there is Ezra. Does Ezra serve double duty as a rat cop and a pet?
I wish my dad had talked about philosophical matters, living the good life and sharing his cares with us boys. I suppose that we boys were so wrapped in ourselves that were didn't have time to listen. We were always dashing out the door . Father's should be more insistent. I treasure the things he said, now.
Pete is so much more than a small acre farmer. He’s a philosopher, a life coach, a touchstone to a different way of life. It’s refreshing.
when I was younger {20} I had the opportunity to help my good friends family once a month on a pig farm to give the parents a break and since then I understand what work and labour an dedication it takes to put food onto our table ,lessons I have never forgat ,Now I am almost 61 and when I go to buy a nice pork roast those wonderful memories come flooding back.Just remember you are appreciated .
Yes. Exactly. Some of us do appreciate our food. I say thanks to the animal before I eat.
Do you know the Fitzgibbons

@Blair Arthur absolutely I know exactly from helping and visiting my great grandparents when I was young. God bless all farmers!
Good story...it's too rare! Take care.
Pete, I anxiously await your video. Glad you’re feeling better.
Me too. I was worried, felt like forever since last video but when I checked it was just a week ago 😅Will enjoy this episode now!

Great video Pete! I hope Bossy pig works out and earns her spot on the farm. Thanks for taking the time to share this video and your thoughts.
Good to see you got rid of the cold you had pete cool to see you working with your animals grate video pete like always thanks for sharing

My husband knows I love your channel, so he gave me magnets for the frig that have pigs and cows on them. Now I can walk in the kitchen in the morning and say, "Howdy, piggers!" and "Howdy, cows!" 😊
Love your videos you post of your day to day life on the farm .have a blessed and safe day
Thank you Pete and Hillary for all the great videos. I always look forward to seeing them.
Looks like Billy is getting more social. Again thanks for sharing you have added to my goal of raising pigs in the next few years.
Good morning Pete and family
Thank you Pete, for your words of wisdom. ❤️
Pete, you’re like the Mr. Rogers of farming!
I love how you treat your critters.
You seem to be a very easy going guy and are very comfortable to listen too. Your videos are informative and enjoyable to watch. Thanks for posting them!
Yes, there's lots of energy in Montreal. People drive very fast on the freeways. It's like the speed limit signs say "Floor it".
Pete and Hillary Good Morning! Great to see your beautiful productive farm and learn from you in many ways. Im with H, Im a homebody too 😊
Glad to see you back Pete, I was getting worried. I was jonesing for my country fix, appreciate all you do keep up the good work.
She will be all grown up after JJ is done.
Good day at the farm update.
Glowplugs video will be great Pete
Pete you have what I’m in the process of doing I’m in the middle of returning my parents farm into a working farm again and you’re a true inspiration to me I love your dexter cattle and your heritage breed pigs I should be ready in the spring and would be interested in buying some cattle and pigs off of you I’m sure then that I’d be getting good genetics to start my operation I’m 57 but when I grow up I want to be like Pete lol thanks for your videos
What a great video!
I love your stories....
I've lived in both the country and BIG cities.....but I'm still a country girl at heart.💜
Pete, you're a good man! Enjoy your videos!
Love your wisdom and insights.
That hay barn must smell like heaven.
I'm with Hillary. Too much mandatory travelling in my past and now I just love the opportunity to stay home (and sometimes ALL BY MYSELF!)
Thanks for bringing a few moments of calm, education, and relaxing reality to a crazy world.
Good evening from Australia
I hope you have a great day Pete I know I will I have no school due to snow and we are supposed to get 8 inches. I can’t wait to see the farmall C restoration complete. See you in the next video.
Thank you for the new video Pete. Great to see life on the farm.
Audrey
Nice to have an update on the livestock Pete,
Oh Canada 🇨🇦, I was lucky several years ago when a company I worked for sent me to Montreal for 6 weeks, absolutely a beautiful place. ❤️🐷🎥
Loved the talk, I've always been on both sides of the "urban vs country living" debate. I like both though, they each have their own pros and cons. Really enjoyed the point I think you were trying to make though, about being connected to everything that supports you. It's a nice way to live.
Another great video Pete....thank you. You have a wonderful life....the best!
For some reason I enjoyed cleaning the stalls in my stable. It gave my mind a rest from my stressful Job.
Neal
You always leave me wanting more! I never miss an episode!
Love your videos and your thoughts ..... thanks for sharing
Respect and tolerance of others values and beliefs.
How do you guys handle rats? I do not think I have seen a rat video yet about farm. Alot of small farms have a Terrier or multiple cats patrolling the property. I know there is Ezra. Does Ezra serve double duty as a rat cop and a pet?
Good question!
I wish my dad had talked about philosophical matters, living the good life and sharing his cares with us boys. I suppose that we boys were so wrapped in ourselves that were didn't have time to listen. We were always dashing out the door . Father's should be more insistent. I treasure the things he said, now.
Would watching Bossy Pig be with JJ be a gilt-ty pleasure? Have fun, kids!
