- My review of the Ibanez Apex 30, a guitar I’ve been anticipating since 2020. This is the latest signature guitar model from my brother James “Munky” Shaffer of the band Korn. In the video, I said I got it this week, but I did this video back in February and just got all the editing done on it to upload it😁. I would love to know your thoughts if you have one or want to purchase one!

The Evertune system is brilliant. Takes a few minutes to learn but once you get it you’re set for life.
Truth! It took me a second to get it but man, I feel like it needs to be the standard. You can still play it like a conventional guitar & yet have the ability to keep it in tune. It's good to see some innovative progression in guitars.
This is the only signature guitar I’ve ever seen that sounds like the OG artist no matter what amp you put it behind! Bro I’m sold. Second video in
Dude sick video, being a fellow KoRn fan you play really well! That guitar is dope! Munk knows how to make a earth shattering axe no doubts
Thank you brother! I appreciate that! This Apex 30 has definitely become my favorite 7-string guitar.
Great review! Love the enthusiasm. Got one of these on the way, so excited!
Thank so much🙏! I'm excited for you! I know you'll love it!
Korn was the band that got me into metal, and into 7 strings. I don't see any way I can just not buy this
Same! They're literally the reason I picked up a guitar.
@@pldmedia9902 same
Sick axe, I love the Munky model. I have the Ibanez JBM10FX Jake Bowen sig model (from Periphery) and I sent it in to Evertune to get a bridge put on. I love the Evertune bridge upgrade, this guitar has become my absolute favorite. I never wanna play without Evertune again! Was 💯 worth the money (it’s an expensive upgrade too when you send it in after market!)
I know that Jake Bowen model has to be fire🔥!! Yeah, those upgrades ain't cheap, but I'm totally with you, I feel like every guitar should have one. It'll be cool if it became a standard. You literally get the best of both worlds. You can have it stay in perfect tuning or you can have it do all the bends you want.
Man…..Freak on a Leash justice well served. You’re clearly a Korn fan. I know I was when I was a kid. Well done!!
Thank you brother🙏! Definitely a Korn fan! They’re the reason I picked up a guitar & wanted to play.
Beautiful ass guitar bro! I was gonna get this one but then I saw that RGDR.
@k5lta thank you bro! And man, I don’t blame you one bit on the RGDR. That guitar is sick too!
People complain about a floyd rose but I have never had issue with it. I play an Ibanez RG470 that I bought in 1993. I dive bomb and pull back on the whammy bar when I play. My guitar stays in tune. It might slip slightly but still. I did buy an Ibanez Baritone that has a fixed bridge. My only real complaint is that it doesn't have a floyd rose. I got used to the active pickups.
I think if I actually took the proper time to learn how to set it and change the strings on it without assistance, I would be just fine with a floyd. I have got one of the 1st Ibanez K-7 models used years ago and that was my 1st experience with one. I still have it, I just haven’t used it a lot. They had a U-Bar system on there that was a twist on the whammy bar, although you could still put a whammy bar on in place of the U-Bar.
Sweet video Paul! This is so amazing!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it🙏
You're welcome my brother!
I wonder do the strings feel differently under your fingertips when the Evertune is constantly correcting the string to perfect tuning?
Very nice. I'm looking for my first 7 string and I really don't like trems, so this might just be perfect.
You won't regret it! I have one of the 1st K-& models and it's still a pain for me to setup. This is definitely not that. It seems similar to it, but it's not.
Please use something to record your guitar audio other than the camera mic
Thanks for the feedback👍! Yeah I'm not gonna lie, that's something I'm still in the process of learning. I know what you mean, audio is much better hearing from direct out rather than a shotgun mic.
I was thinking that this has more of an authentic korn sound as opposed to the LTD SH-7, since that one uses stock (non custom/signature) fishman fluence pickups while this one uses dimarzio pickups which is what Im assuming they've always used. Thoughts?
I’ve always wanted to try that LTD SH-7 myself to see how it feels to personally use it. I do think those Ibanez guitars do help with, like you said, that authentic Korn sound. They have used Dimarzio pickups for as long as I can remember.
@@pldmedia9902 yeah all things considered, if it wasn't for the authentic sound thing I'd definitely get the SH-7 ET simply based on all the youtube reviewers I've seen saying it's the best 7 string they've ever played.
For a majority of them they’ve used dimarzio PAF’s. But otherwise, they have used blazes
Seriously looking to buy this axe - I didn’t know an Ibanez had an Evertune on it!!! Got the idea w/ your soundclips the pickups don’t svck, so w/ my rig it’ll be great. Thanks!
It's definitely worth it! I hope you ended up snagging one!
Great job Paul!!
Thank you Sam brother!
I buy the 7 strings brian head! And i want this to one day! Damn!! So cool!!!
I would love to have that one as well! Definitely sounds great! I absolutely love this Apex 30.
@@pldmedia9902 2 perfect 7 strings for me! Have fun man 😎👍👍
I like this sort of apex 30 guitar but I prefer that with six strings not seven.
Great review! How does the fretwork look like from up close? Can you set the action low without the dead notes? Cheers!
Thank you Nejo! The action I felt was great straight out the box! Has that good low action to where you can play chords and go up and down the fretboard without a lot of tension. You can set it lower, I have attempted to do so though.
you need way more subscribers. legit.
Thank you Aydin brother!
Ive gotta get this guitar now. Keep the videos coming bro. You definitely deserve more subscribers!
Thanks brother; I truly appreciate that 🙏! I got more on the way👍!
Beautiful guitar
Thank you Brett! This is definitely one of my favorite Ibanez Guitars to own
I believe if it was a green like "K7" !!! It will be just space 🌌))))))
That would have been a good color option as well!
What gauge strings come on these guitars?
Good one man, keep making videos
Thank you! I’m working on getting more out!
you just earned a sub.
Nelson, thank you brother! I'm humbled and appreciative for your support of this channel🙏
Great review video. Btw, what string do you use on that guitar?
Thanks Brother! I actually still have the strings on from when I got it. But when I switch them out, I’ll get a set of D’addario strings.
@@pldmedia9902 Thank you for the reply. Anyway, I will buy this guitar as soon as I can.
What's the neck scale? Since I got my baritone, I prefer a little longer neck that the standard.
It’s has a 25.5 scale length on it. I’ve always been tempted to get a baritone guitar, if just to have one in my collection. Perhaps someday😁
What hard shell case with a body mold do you recommend? Did you get one for it
I didn't, but I need to as well. I do mostly home recording so I have it on my multi-guitar stand with my other guitars. I want to get an Ibanez Hard Shell case for it when I can though.
Is it difficult to change from 6 strings to 7 and will there be a review on APEX20?
Yes! I will definitely do a future video on the Apex 20! And for me, my wrist took some time getting use to a wider neck on a 7-string, but I also have long fingers so it didn't take too long for me to adjust. You'll definitely want to try one out and see how it feels for you.
Not a even guitar player just think they are cool and hope to play someday
If you get one, let that be the beginning of your guitar playing journey. You'll love it👍
Will there be a review at APEX20?
I could definitely do a video for that in the future since I have one👍
Would love an evertune. Getting frustrated with tuning the guitar all the time between takes or notice afterwards a good take is out of tune. Btw which amp did you use for this?
I used my Axe FX III and just did a dual amp setting with using a Recto Red coming out of my studio monitors. The evertune is game changing. This guitar really sold me on it. And the fact that you can tweak individual strings to do bends is awesome. It's such an innovative idea.
Why do you need a hat indoors? Is your head freezing?
Lol, not freezing, just a trademark of mine. I shave my head so it doesn’t really bother me.
What was that last riff you played
That was the chorus to Here to Stay, the rhythm part.
