Meeting Brian "Head" Welch-My Story
Back in July of 2019, I had a chance to meet my Brother Brian “Head” Welch from the band Korn. This meeting turned out to be much more though. An event that spanned 2 days and also with me meeting my brother James “Munky” Shaffer. People who know me know that Korn was the band that started it all for me, as far as my journey in music and wanting to play the guitar. This was truly a moment that God aligned things to make this connection happen.

Korn Follow The Leader.....The Album that started my music journey
Просмотров 1482 года назад
In this video I talk about the album that started it all for me in my musical journey. This was the album that changed how I heard music and made me want to play guitar. That album is Korn's 3rd album Follow the Leader. It was groundbreaking in it's own right, but also inspired many people to think outside the box, especially when it came to the rock and metal genre. I hope you all enjoy my sto...

Ibanez Apex 30 Munky Signature Guitar Review
Просмотров 16 тыс.3 года назад
My review of the Ibanez Apex 30, a guitar I’ve been anticipating since 2020. This is the latest signature guitar model from my brother James “Munky” Shaffer of the band Korn. In the video, I said I got it this week, but I did this video back in February and just got all the editing done on it to upload it😁. I would love to know your thoughts if you have one or want to purchase one! Ibanez Apex ...
Korn The Nothing Review
Просмотров 1233 года назад
My thoughts on Korn’s 13th Album The Nothing, which was released on September 13th of 2019. In my opinion one of Korn’s best albums, this album finds Jonathan Davis coping with the unsuspected loss of his wife Devin. Only 6 months prior to that, Jonathan also loss his mother as well. This album is a journey through coping with the sadness, anger, frustration and grief of losing a loved one. Mer...

This is the only signature guitar I’ve ever seen that sounds like the OG artist no matter what amp you put it behind! Bro I’m sold. Second video in
Great video. Yesterday I had a dynamic mic plugged into my Jam+ and the signal was so low it was barely audible. Any advice?
I wonder do the strings feel differently under your fingertips when the Evertune is constantly correcting the string to perfect tuning?
I just want to use this to make beats. Would this be a good purchase for that? it'll mostly end up being a portable interface
Picked up an Orange Omec Teleport interface a few years back for noise making and portable iOS endeavors, but while it's AD/DA converters are really great? It's pretty much locked at 44.1-48k @16 bit. Since the JAMx dropped? So did the price on the JAM+. Especially on the second hand market. May just have to pick one up. Thanks for the review homie! Peace✌
What gauge strings come on these guitars?
I like this sort of apex 30 guitar but I prefer that with six strings not seven.
I just wish it wasn't so quiet. I've had to buy a headphone amp to see if I can boost it.
Yep. Ultra smart, intense, user-friendly design. I love it when a product is nearly perfect (slight imperfection imho: the gain dial is a little wonky) Well worth the money. Buy it direct through Apple for good price and friendly, prompt service.
Great review! Love the enthusiasm. Got one of these on the way, so excited!
Thank so much🙏! I'm excited for you! I know you'll love it!
I believe if it was a green like "K7" !!! It will be just space 🌌))))))
That would have been a good color option as well!
I wish you could play for the Nu metal band I'm starting. T_T
I'm humbled by that; thank you🙏
Seriously looking to buy this axe - I didn’t know an Ibanez had an Evertune on it!!! Got the idea w/ your soundclips the pickups don’t svck, so w/ my rig it’ll be great. Thanks!
It's definitely worth it! I hope you ended up snagging one!
Love this
Thank you always for your support Lorie🙏!
What hard shell case with a body mold do you recommend? Did you get one for it
I didn't, but I need to as well. I do mostly home recording so I have it on my multi-guitar stand with my other guitars. I want to get an Ibanez Hard Shell case for it when I can though.
I have a macbook with no audio interface and Fl studio. If I wanted to use this product for strictly in DAW purposes (no instruments) would that work?
Yes, you can! I think it's only if you wanted to record guitar/bass/keyboards. I'm not use if you can use anything else beyond that since I haven't tried.
Cool dude keep it up
Thank you🙏!
Out of curiosity are there cheaper alternatives to this? I wanna start making music with a real guitar, any cheap guitars you’d recommend as well? I don’t know much about this category so I appreciate it a lot!
Look at iRig, they have several lower priced options that are the same form factor. In the way they owned this market until Apogee entered with their upmarket offering. As far as guitars, if you want high quality at rock bottom pricing check out Harley Benton - they're more or less copies of higher end guitars within similar construction and materials.
@Beau Randall hit it on the nail, the iRig is a good alternative, along with Positive Grid's RIFF mobile interface. Both of those are along the same lines as the Jam+
Enlighten me, how would you connect a micro usb to usb cable to an ipad?
By using the Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. And just a heads up - Don’t waste your time with the knock off brands.
@Ramirez is correct on his recommendation with this👍
Divine intervention is a beautiful thing! So happy for ya Paul!!!
Thank you Jon brother🙏!
So cool 🙏🏻
Thank you Paula! This was definitely a moment in time I will never forget!
Do you think you can connect the Guitar - Jam+ and connect that to a bluetooth speaker that has AUX-IN (rather than headphones) and replace a mini amp (I have a roland microcube) with a small speaker that is meant for music (I’m looking at the JBL Charge 4). I’m looking to play live in small jams (a few people) with garageband loops mixed with guitar - but not clear if it will all work and sound okay.
I think there will be latency if u used Bluetooth
@@shakti.rathore I ended up getting it set up and there is no latency. It works really well - even performed live with this setup. I got the Soundcore Motion + speaker instead. Sounds amazing..
@@iamrishio awesome. I am always concerned with latency issues n bluetooth.
@@shakti.rathore Keep in mind I am using the AUX In. Unfortunately the Jam+ does have latency with Aux In, but my speaker, the Soundcore Motion+, does not - and it also sounds really good.
I hope future iterations will allow for bluetooth capability. I'm guessing as of right now there's a complexity to connectivity when it comes to that that may cause instability.
Just order the Apogee Jam+ and some nice presonus headphones from Sweetwater.
It's an awesome interface, especially for mobility!
this is great bro..love it
Thank you!
So Amazing!! ✌️😎✌️
Thank you Michael brother!
you just earned a sub.
Nelson, thank you brother! I'm humbled and appreciative for your support of this channel🙏
Sick axe, I love the Munky model. I have the Ibanez JBM10FX Jake Bowen sig model (from Periphery) and I sent it in to Evertune to get a bridge put on. I love the Evertune bridge upgrade, this guitar has become my absolute favorite. I never wanna play without Evertune again! Was 💯 worth the money (it’s an expensive upgrade too when you send it in after market!)
I know that Jake Bowen model has to be fire🔥!! Yeah, those upgrades ain't cheap, but I'm totally with you, I feel like every guitar should have one. It'll be cool if it became a standard. You literally get the best of both worlds. You can have it stay in perfect tuning or you can have it do all the bends you want.
Would love an evertune. Getting frustrated with tuning the guitar all the time between takes or notice afterwards a good take is out of tune. Btw which amp did you use for this?
I used my Axe FX III and just did a dual amp setting with using a Recto Red coming out of my studio monitors. The evertune is game changing. This guitar really sold me on it. And the fact that you can tweak individual strings to do bends is awesome. It's such an innovative idea.
Can i use this with an iPad Pro with Garageband’s guitar amps with monitoring turn on and listen to it on a headphone using the headphone jack on the JAM+? how do u adjust the volume on the headphones? i only want to hear the output of Garageband with the headphone. i don’t think the headphone jack the JAM+ works because there’re no volume control for the headphone. Thanks!!!!
Yep, you can! In fact, that's what I do. The volume control for your headphones will be directly from the iPad Pro. I use some of the guitar amps from GarageBand itself, but also from Bias FX when I'm recording in Garage Band. They have a blend mode on the Jam+ to where you can get 50% input 50% app. But you can turn that function off to get 100% of the App Mix. The benefit of the Blend mode is that is gives low latency. if you go to apogeedigital.com/products/jam they have an awesome layout on the jam and it's different modes.
Please use something to record your guitar audio other than the camera mic
Thanks for the feedback👍! Yeah I'm not gonna lie, that's something I'm still in the process of learning. I know what you mean, audio is much better hearing from direct out rather than a shotgun mic.
Very nice. I'm looking for my first 7 string and I really don't like trems, so this might just be perfect.
You won't regret it! I have one of the 1st K-& models and it's still a pain for me to setup. This is definitely not that. It seems similar to it, but it's not.
wicked review.
Thank you; I appreciate it!
@@pldmedia9902 im gonna post this in a Korn Facebook Fanpage.. Cool?
@@6jizza6whizza6 by all means, feel free to do so👍!
I love these kinds of stories; I can't imagine what it must have been like to dive into guitar like that, especially not having any friends or someone in your family that can show you the ropes, you were incredibly inspired, and God was speaking to your heart to pick up the guitar, my brother took me to see Led Zepplin song remains the same movie when I was 5 years old and seeing Jimmy page play made me want to play guitar. I was blown away by Korn's first album, I was like around16 or 17 years old when that album came out, I love follow the leader album and that was the last album of Korn that I listened to, I came to your channel because of my interest in evertune bridges and was looking at guitars that are under 2k, and now I am wanting to go down to guitar center to try one of these bad boys out!
Wow, James, thank you for sharing your story brother! Thank you for dropping by here and man, you will absolutely love playing an evertune guitar!
Alice in chains is a band that did and still does inspire me to play guitar. We are same age man and some of the first actual songs i tried to learn was Nirvana songs because power chords are "easy" right? Gotta find that music that moves you enough to push through and keep picking up the guitar and not giving up.
Chris, that's the truth brother! We always have to find that music that just brings out that creative part that's already inside of us.
Looking forward to the content Paul!
Thank you Sid bro!
Paul prayers going out to your wife. I just subbed to your channel and I look forward to more content
Thank you so much Jay brother; I truly appreciate it🙏
I really like the content, I grew up listen to all kinds of music but what got me turn onto rock/metal was Metallica and Biohazard. But Korn and rage against the machine really grabbed my attention early 90’s, I’m 47 now but I am learning how to play guitar and loving the puzzle that is being put together from it. I stumbled on your channel by watching monkeys videos about Ibanez. I’m subscribed to you now enjoying your videos.
Thank you so much Edward for sharing your story and subscribing! Truly appreciate that brother🙏. I'll have some more Korn centered videos coming up👍
This resonates with me. I shall become your 72nd subscriber. Happy new year, God bless my brother here. We have a liking of jesus and korn and guitars in common :)
I can't thank you enough Chris brother! Thank you, God Bless you too and I hope you're having a great start to the New Year!
I love the album as a whole. I too think it might be their best. Idiosyncrasy absolutely blew my mind. Still does every time I listen to it. That song needs to be heard live too. The depth of the darkness that inspired is reflected in the heights the music achieves. A truly amazing work.
Couldn't Agree more with you Lorentz! Man, Idiosyncrasy live would rip! Especially that intro.
yo love this I play drums and guitar 25 yrs old and have been listening too them since I was about 6. take a look in the mirror is my favorite album and I actually got heads pick from a show in august best night ion my life 🤘🏽KORN4L
Take A Look In The Mirror was a great album! I don't think it get the recognition it deserves.
I still remember hearing Here to Stay for the first time back in like 4th grade. That sound was so crazy to me at the time. Korn is really what got me into metal as well lol
Here To Stay is definitely one of my favorite Korn songs! I'll never forget hearing it when it premiered on the radio back at time. That song still holds up til this day.
@@pldmedia9902 Our stories are actually very similar, lol. I remember switching on Channel V to watch some music videos and they were doing the hottest video of the week (when it premiered). Seeing this cartoon that looked like Spawn (I loved that comic back in the day) & the moment the bullet flew through the poster into the real world I was amazed not only by the video but the music. To this day that's still my favorite song/video of all time. I'd consider one of the most important songs for me too. Then I bought Follow The Leader, at first I was like WTF I got scammed because of the silence but once it kicked in it was unlike anything I'd ever heard before. An amazing record. Your analysis on how they blended hip-hop into that record is spot it created a lot of cross over fans.
Great job hop !!! 🎶❤️
Thank you Sepsiss! Love you guys🙏❤️
Cool cool
Thank you Michael brother!
Lol on the West Coast correct! 🤣
LOL, I knew I had to acknowledge that screw up Sid bro😂
Is it difficult to change from 6 strings to 7 and will there be a review on APEX20?
Yes! I will definitely do a future video on the Apex 20! And for me, my wrist took some time getting use to a wider neck on a 7-string, but I also have long fingers so it didn't take too long for me to adjust. You'll definitely want to try one out and see how it feels for you.
The Evertune system is brilliant. Takes a few minutes to learn but once you get it you’re set for life.
Truth! It took me a second to get it but man, I feel like it needs to be the standard. You can still play it like a conventional guitar & yet have the ability to keep it in tune. It's good to see some innovative progression in guitars.
What's the neck scale? Since I got my baritone, I prefer a little longer neck that the standard.
It’s has a 25.5 scale length on it. I’ve always been tempted to get a baritone guitar, if just to have one in my collection. Perhaps someday😁
People complain about a floyd rose but I have never had issue with it. I play an Ibanez RG470 that I bought in 1993. I dive bomb and pull back on the whammy bar when I play. My guitar stays in tune. It might slip slightly but still. I did buy an Ibanez Baritone that has a fixed bridge. My only real complaint is that it doesn't have a floyd rose. I got used to the active pickups.
I think if I actually took the proper time to learn how to set it and change the strings on it without assistance, I would be just fine with a floyd. I have got one of the 1st Ibanez K-7 models used years ago and that was my 1st experience with one. I still have it, I just haven’t used it a lot. They had a U-Bar system on there that was a twist on the whammy bar, although you could still put a whammy bar on in place of the U-Bar.
