- Head’s signature Ibanez KOMRAD was his go-to axe before switching to ESP in 2017. Head’s guitar approach is “melodic,” while he describes his guitar cohort Munky as a “mad scientist.”

Napoleon Dynamite interviews Captain Jack Sparrow at a California Music Convention. Incredible start to the year
Accurate description
Oh no, Head is soooo much closer to a Jack Sparrow! I mean they both can pull it off, but I think Head is a lot closer to the look.
Head wore a trenchcoat when I saw them and he looked like a pirate
😂🤣💯💯💯💀😫
*IT'S ABOUT TIME* that Ibanez finally equipped their guitars with the Evertune bridge! I can finally fall in love all over again with my favorite brand of all time.
Yes.
It's overrated. But if people love it more power. I could never cut a big hunk on a guitar just for bridge that can't even change tuning.
@@eldirtyfaygo5395 Have you ever played one or set one up? You can set it up in any tuning you want. LOL!
@@eldirtyfaygo5395 You've never played one or else you would know that you can change the tuning. Stop bs'ing.
Dude looks 35, crazy that he's 50
To me he looks 40.
That happens when you work on what you love to do.
After all the flair this guitar is a refreshing look at “plain” and beautiful. Thanks for the video!
Indeed.
His sig with the evertune is by far one of the best models they've released in a good while. It is simple but good. Lots of companies are bit too concerned with how the guitar looks, but forget that its a tool
I love these guys .... Completely original & sounded like nothing ever heard when they came out. They absolute had a hand & influence on both the metal & rap we hear today .
not just that, but lall the djent and metal of today too, but NONE of them wanna credit Korn as an important part to the evolution of modern metal. Korn was THE band to bring 7strings to the conversation. Sure, Vai, Neil Schon, Don Ross, etc were the first guys to really put it on record, but it was Korn that made everyone go out and get one!
Good thing Ibanez installed the evertune bridge for him before he switched to esp like head did
sevenstringshaman ya Koran did a lot for Ibanez if you Really think about it
@@rollipollirock yea im sure they did. Their videos got so much airtime and you could see the ibanez logo in all of them. Head said in the interview about switching to esp that some of the old workers at ibanez arent there anymore so maybe there could be another reason besides Ibanez not wanting to add a evertune bridge to his new signature model
Why head switch to esp?
@ cause esp is better
@@grimg0r that's in your opinion, sometimes artists move to other brands for different reasons like certain changes in guitar spec.
Head was with Ibanez for 23 years before he left and Dino Cazares was there for 22, Mick Thomson 13 years and they've still got Munky, Fieldy, Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai among their endorsers so each to their own.
So Jack Sparrow is endorsed by Ibanez for 25 years now. Should have called it Black Pearl then
Being interviewed by Napoleon dynamite
*Captain,* Captain Jack Sparrow
@coffee carnage and you have no class. move on.
Rokas Jackunas nah, if anything, Head is the one who looks like Jack Sparrow; it’s actually uncanny.
first glance i thought i had clicked an old kirk hammett interview
Proud Indonesian People here,,!
You guys make killer guitars!! My favorite overseas makers next to Japan
I'm pretty sure that the evertune bridge feature came from Munky seeing Head's "Sir Headly" ESP model and going "What's that?" and Head going "Go ahead try it, it won't go out of tune, EVER!"
Munky actually introduced evertune to head
I'm sure it's not only related to not knowing the product. Adding the feature to a product line is another thing. There weren't any evertune bridge ibanez guitars coming from the factory, as far as i know. And now there is also an RGD 6 string.
And ESP/LTD got on that train a long time ago.
Munky had a custom from Hapas as a gift and if had a evertune. Munky had one years before head.
@coffee carnage The fact that you replied shows that YOU care.
@coffee carnage But again, the fact that you typed yet another reply, shows that you DO care.
If you really didn't care you wouldn't have bothered.
Evetune is a breakthrough in the guitar world. Everyone should get one installed. Saves so much time when recording
That first guitar is mad. Clean and sharp. Munky is looking good for 50. Nice dude.
Yeah it does, it'll be expensive though.
@@pistonheddUsed ones are starting to come up. I just bought one for $900 (the Apex30) in GREAT shape and it’s being delivered tomorrow.
Does KORN have a signature shampoo?
We need that!
Dose it look like they wash there hair lol?.
I have a feeling their hair smells like a bar at the end of a night
Majin Studio that’s the joke
@@cody181818 the dreads they have actually require a lot of care. Well Head's dreads at least require a lot of care.
They don't have a shampoo, but they do have a really good coffee!
Shit... I'm old enough to remember when the K-7 first came out. Now there's a 20th anniversary model?
I'm old enough too, I wanted to grey model but could never afford it.
@@pistonhedd I was in my "I'm too cool for Korn" metal elitist phase at the time but I remember the ads for them in Guitar World. I've heard a lot of different people say how good they are. I wouldn't mind trying one out for the heck of it.
I have the grey k7 and still love playing it so much....
Man I am too. The K7 and the K5 bass. Wish I had gotten one back then
I'm about to sell my K7, Apex 1 and K5. Not really a fan anymore and rather sell them for crypto.
Damn he doesn’t look 50
That’s because he IS jack sparrow
he could definitely pass for 35
A G no, that’s head.
Weed does wonders
He’d look even younger if he cleaned up the hair, but it’s not bad.
He straight-up killed this namm what does 2 signature guitars. Both of them are straight-up Monsters. The fact that he has stable as hardtail and a badass Low Pro on another gives you so much variety I'm a 7. The colors are great aswell
The K7-20 is the best looking Ibanez for me. And that's saying something because I think Ibanez produces some good looking guitars.
Returning to the k7 simplicity. I love that.
Indonesian make amazing guitars, light skinny fast. love my schecter..
That dude has always been super cool. From what I've seen, actually all the Korn fellas are pretty laid back. Good stuff.
Cool guitars! And he such a chill dude
Lol great interview. He's so humble and the interviewer was great too. I met Munky once he was so chill. This was in 2003.
That was the first video of this company that I really liked, keep this guy doing interviews because he is really good!
I love the look of that Apex! Beautiful guitar!
It''ll proberly be expensive, the last APEX was - the 200 Prestige, was about 2-3,000 GBP.
Cool that now both Munky and Head have evertunes in their guitars
Leonardo Pedroza i hate it
Hugh tube cheers to that, bro
@@Ottophil why?
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power It's either because he's never played a guitar with an Evertune bridge OR he doesn't know how to setup an Evertune bridge properly.
Munk is just the coolest chillest guy man
I’m going to purchase both models. They are overwhelmingly beautiful!
Hey, could you grab me an M80M too??? I'll E-mail you my address bro! 😅👍
Evan Sales depends on where I’ll be, financially by then. If I can make it happen without running into too much hassle, sure.
@@noahbrewer2476 my friend, if you win the lottery please remember this, otherwise, don't worry. I plan on getting one this year. I even plan on getting it swirl dipped to be hella cool. Black guitars are just a *little* boring, y'know? I loved Korn growing up, but lately I listen to mostly emo/screamo/melodic hardcore. Cheers dude.
Evan Sales lolz for me it’s the same dynamic but the complete other way around. I was an emo music consumer for a pretty long time and just during the past 2 years KoRn has instantly become my favorite band of all time. Giving a full account for the reason that now is would take 2-3 days since it’s that detailed. And heck yeah bro black guitars are boring af, honestly.. I kinda liked em for a little while but the only instance of black I like on my instruments is the hardware. Cheers!
Noah Brewer Do you know the prices for them?
Munky is such a cool humble dude
I want to know the release date for the K7 so badly! It doesn’t show up on any websites like the Apex evertune
i love the evertune bridges on my guitars, keeps the tune really locked in!
Such a down to earth guy, both him and Brian are awesome
Best video of namm 2020 so far! Love it
Dude, I remember the first K7, I lusted after that guitar forever, the gray one, with the wrap around bend bar... korn is a huge inspiration of my early days. What’s up, korn
Me too, could never afford the K-7 though :(
Good luck and best wishes. Enjoyed this quite a bit!
Hell yeah back to the roots look on the apex30
Dear munky, hope you have a cool summer. Keep shredding 🤘🤘 - Jordan white
I LOVE Ibanez but I’d love to see them let more artists go crazy on their Signature Models...
rolando limon I think the point is that not going crazy allows them to be more affordable. There are some crazy dogs but damn expensive. Meshuggah comes to mind price wise.
If someone goes crazy, say the old dean Matt heafey sig, then you can really only get that guitar if your into the artist, whereas this guitar, you don’t have to REALLY be a fan of the guitarist or Korn in general for it to be a sick guitar
Well Jem is not cheap
Yea Chrome boy and DNA models are not cheap either...
A G that’s true I LOVE this axe ... but boy I loved that Dean Matt Heafy white 7-string ML ...
Wow that guitar made in Indonesia 😃, proud 😘
Not really big on this guys playing but I cannot wait to try this guitar....looks so versatile and player friendly.
Munky so down to earth. They all seem cool as fuck.
They are now their sober & mature.
Chillist guy ever, always has been, met him in the early 2000s and it was like talking to a guy I'd known for years, Feildy on the other hand ....I hear he's alot better these days.
There were 7 string jazz guitars along time ago!
I will more than likely but that silver Apex. I want to try the evertune. This will be my third Munky guitar and like 7th seven string lol! I love them all!
Its good they all got clean
#metoo50.!!!!! Great looking guitar. It's great to hear that the band is going strong. Hey Munky it's the thrill of playing music that keeps you young.#Long live rock!!!!
*I didn't know that Kirk Hammet played Ibanez guitars*
@@davidpearson6346 yeah🤔
Yes, during the Black Album tour he used for practising and for the solo ...
@@FreakCanal That was his 84 Jackson RR, the black one.
That is a clean ass guitar
If I was in the market for a seven string this would be the exact model I’d go for.
I've never used an Evertune...but I really want to play that first one he showed.
Great clean design! Wishing the would do more of it!!!
I Wish they will release a 6 string version is that grey finish, what a sexy looking Guitar
I need that K7!!!!!!!!
Damn, I was hoping Munky was going to talk about the U- Bar on the K-7. That thing fascinates me!
they first started with that idea back in the FTL era, they both had LACS RG's with U-bars on the trem. Head had a Custom silverburst RG and Munky used a Custom blue RG w/white hardware.
I tried out a Head LTD with evertune at Guitar Center and it didn't matter how much I bended a string, it played the same note. I dont know if that's just how that one was setup but it was freaking me out and didn't like it.
That's the mode it was in, but you can change it so that it will let notes bend.
hey thats actually an awesome design
I can't believe there's no K-7 20 fret board inlay!
Well that anniversary guitar Munky shows in the vid is just the prototype apparently, and not the final model. There is the original K-7 logo across the 12th fret but you need to look hard to see it.
My Ibanez Prestige Sparkley Red 7 string is bad ass!
Munky is rad :)
Still have my apex... great humbucker... tried so many... they are the best...
Is the K7 going to be a production model?!? I cant find anything about it other than this video
joshford60 was wondering the same thing! I’ve been going to Sweetwater‘s website & Ibanez’s website almost everyday to find out. I preordered the Apex 30 from Sweetwater; I didn’t think it was going to be $1499.00. I was thinking it would be in the $899.00 like the previous Apex 20. Makes me wonder how higher the K-7 Model will be now!
I Music yeah it is. I never referred to the fact that it’s Indonesian, but yes it’s expensive.
Probably the higher end Indonesian craftsmanship and not the typical ones
Yes, Indonesian made guitars are actually well made. When the company that wants a guitar made and cares about the manufacturing process, craftsmanship, parts and so on, you can bet its gonna be a quality product!! Check out Ola Englund and his guitar company Solar, he has an array of models and with the low end (price wise) being around $700.00, it's pretty impressive the quality of his guitars! He manufactures his out of Indonesia as well!!
Munky is such a cool dude
I was lucky enough to be able to play that new K-7 & by god it’s a thing of beauty let me tell ya. Not too flashy, but it’s a beautiful guitar, & light as a feather in your hands. Just hate that they didn’t make a lot of them, & if you do find them, there selling for like 3 grand or something outrageous.
Id love to see his old univearse back up n running again i wonder if hed put the evertune on it
Which one, he has a few. If it's the one which was covered in duck tape, it was retired back in 2013/14 because of it's value and had a few beatings over the years from touring - he used it at Woodstock '99, then dropped it on the stage at the end of the show - it had it's neck replaced a few times too.
Evertune…Head has it on his ESP. No surprise Munky would do the same for his Ibanez.
When is that k7 going for sale ? I'm ready to be broke for a while !
Nice looking guitar
00:08 - 00:27 is every relationship ever lmao
how easy life was when this interview was recorded
Hell yeah super good dude
Ibanez rgd61alet also has an evertune
Damn those look incredible.,
🤣🤣 his family were like "you're going to *VIETNAM?!?* 🤯🤯🤯"
hahahahahah
What's that black thing on that gold bridge? Is it like an attachment to pull the bridge up and down instead of a whammy bar?
It's the U-bar, it is a whammy bar variation. It has been in all Munky's guitar until the apex30 (the main ones, not the cheapest ones).
Hmm, I'm turning 50 this year, so, I think I should buy that guitar. There, justified.
Does anyone know when the K7 20th anniversary is being released or where to buy it???, the guitar is so beautiful i gotta save up and buy one!
Just 'take a look around' (no Limp Bizkit pun intended :P) on the web, they'll be a few online stores that have them. I think TBH your more likely to find the APEX30 than the K-7 Anniversary.
@@pistonhedd thanks dude !
@@joelmacy9558 👍
50! Really doesn’t look it to me. Crazy
Munky looked worse when he was in his late 30s
Munky and Fieldy are the youngest looking ones in the band
Very nice guitar
I thought there is going to be a marijuana leafs on the guitar🤣🤣🤣
May just get it :). I have the ESP LTD Sir Headly which is my first right handed guitar. I do want another right handed guitar so it may end up either being this, or Matt Heafys new sig (or if I can save up 4k I badly want Kaoru's sig ESP).
What brand and type of string gauges does Munky use for Drop A on that Apex 30 w Evertune?
I think he uses Dean Markley strings and you might find out the gauge on the Ibanez website.
K7 iconic
and f***** expensive :P
Craig ?? Price surfaced ?
Yeah the anniversary model will be thousands like the original was :(
In the UK back in the day when the original K-7 was in production it was £1,300.
Interviewer looks like the love child of Jonah Hill and Steven Merchant
It made from Indonesia ?
I thought every artist's guitar are made in japan...
I think ibanez is started to up their game with their guitar line up that crafted in Indonesia.
Meh, they're charge a lot for an Indonesian made guitar
I really want to equip evertune on my schecter hellraiser. Better yet I'll get the shuriken guitar.
pre-ordered my Apex and I can't wait to chug the living hell out of it!
Seb Tymon where did you preorder it from?
@@grainofsalt4934 Cosmo Music in Ontario, Canada!
Why don’t they do set neck Ibanez guitars
Ive wondered that too
ESP JAPAN FINEST!
An indo that still still retails for $1500? Ouch. Looks good though! I have an RGA7420 thats similar.
Man the guitars are cool in all but i gotta say im a but disappointed in thr pickup set up. His first sig 7 (the grey one with pink picups) turned me on because it was the neck pickup was a single coil.
They were Red pups, he got the idea from a car (Ferrari) he'd seen and it had red brake calipers on it and the last APEX (200) was the third of his own signature models after the APEX1 and APEX100, so the APEX30 and K7 anniversary will be no four and five.
Killer guitars
String gauge (factory): 010/.013/.017/.026/.036/.046/.054 TUNED TO DROP A. HOW ON EARTH IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE ON THE 25.5 SCALE???
Evertune's magic
First thing It's not drop A but A Standard, second I own a seven string and 010 would be just fine for a Drop A tuning. If you want to tune to A standard on a 25.5 scale then I'd go with 011
Best Indonesian guitar I've ever owned?
I didn't even know Indonesia built guitars
Cool looking guitar - looked up the specs. 25.5 scale for a 7 string is a pain.
KORN tunes down to floppy land too.
Munky is also 1000x more successful in his guitar career than me. So wtf do I know.
Oh please, It's only down to ADGCFAD. On a 25.5 scale is just fine.
Munky, Satriani has guitar with evertune before you :D
,,,what a cool interview,,,,,,,,what a cool dude,,,,so real......😈😈land o' lakes,wi....
Ill take one in southpaw.
Made in indonesia ❤❤❤
Wow in Indonesia
50!😯 looks 30
Beautiful guitars here, and the first with Evertune is so cool, *BUT*, part of the essence of KoRn is the weird sounds that they made with their Ibanezes, so they earn a truly stable tunning on their guitars, but at the same time they losses part of the coolness of Korn sound.
I have not seen Weird Al Yankovic for years!
...it's California, baby... LOL
