In this episode, we are featuring "The Journey" by Rick Wakeman! Please listen along with us, and continue on to our discussion to see how Jana feels about her first dedicated listen to this prog rock gem and Nathan’s background and history with this particular piece of music!

It's a masterpiece. Briliant composition, arrangements and execution. A truly masterpiece.
I was lucky enough to see this performance live in Houston Texas with the Houston Philharmonic Orchestra Rick was phenomenal as usual and with the orchestra it was a magical experience ...I'll never forget it 😊
Finally! In 1974 the LP that introduced me to Prog Rock. Great from start to finish. MASTERPIECE!
Rick Wakeman THE FINGERS. THE MASTER. FOREVER YES❗️❗️❗️🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
Yes misses him so much.

Ah, yes!
I just knew you would be excited Jeff. What do you think to Return..?
@@andrewlongshaw2128 Rick did or currently does masterpieces. He is the Master!🎹😎
Growing up in the 70’s. And seeing Yes live was such a wonder and having these solo albums and performances were a tremendous bonus, what a great time to be alive. It gives me so much pleasure to see and hear people listen and react first time. Thank you both of you.
A masterpiece !
Oh wow, I think this is the first reaction I've seen to this album. It may not be his most popular, but it's my personal favorite. I love the story, the narration, the orchestration, the composition, and, of course, Wakeman's playing. It gets knocked for the vocals (and rightly so), but I'm so used to them, they don't bother me.
I would love to see you guys do the rest of the album, even if you only want to do one track at a time. I wanted it to continue, so much, when you guys cut it off. 😉
In retrospect, I think we should have continued through the next part, but I wasn’t really familiar with the piece in advance so didn’t know the best place to stop…
I saw them perform the whole album in San Francisco 1974. It’s a rare album that debuts brand new songs live.
I remember getting this album when it first came out. I think he was the more successful individual from YES and probably was a reason why he took a longer break from the band when he did. He also had very successful albums based on King Arthur & the Knights of the Round Table (performed live…On Ice!) as well as his acclaimed Six Wives of Henry VIII. These first 3 secured Rick firmly as a true great composer in his own right. All are exceptional listens.
I definitely need to listen to more of his solo work!
i learned only today that Rick is on many famous Bowie songs, even 'Life on Mars'
One of the first LPs I ever bought was "The Six Wives Of Henry VIII" by Rick Wakeman. I was really stunned. It's very tastyeful prog from 1972 or there about. Still love that album
I plan to listen to it soon!
If not a reaction video, you guys must listen to this whole album on your own. It literally takes you on the Journey! (It goes by quick, you won’t realize you spent 30 some minutes in it)
Agree!🎹😎
A Masterpiece !! You should check out the The Return To The Centre of The Earth as well,Patrick Stewart did the narration, with guest musicians Bonnie Tyler,Ozzy Osbourne, Justin Hayward,Trevor Rabin.I attended the performance of The Return To The Centre Of The Earth in Quebec City.I will never forget that concert it has been burned into my DNA.
Performed with the London Symphony Orchestra and the English Chamber choir, is a musical adaption of the Jules Verne 1864 story of Journey to the Centre of the Earth. More orchestral than keyboards but demonstrates Rick Wakeman`s musical skills in writing and orchestral arrangements.
we have the version with a picture book (glossy paper, hard cover) the same size as an LP
I hope you get to his first solo effort soon. The Six Wives of Henry VIII are shorter songs and would likely appeal more to Jana and it was a studio album. I hope you both went and gave Journey to the Centre of the Earth a full listen and we get to see a review from you both. The album that blew my mind was Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record and made me a fan for life. Those three albums started me on the prog spiral and though I don't have the knowledge of modern or metal prog I at least made it into the 80's and continued listening to great music ranging from Prog, Concepts and Pop/Rock by bands of the Prog era or influenced heavily by it. I hope your fan base grows. I enjoy most everything you put up.
Rick's first three solo albums The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Journey to the centre of the Earth, The myths and legends of King Arthur are the best.
Of the other members albums, Chris Squire's Fish Out of Water is a masterpiece, Jon Anderson's first solo Olias of Sunhillow is excellent, Steve Howe's second solo album The Steve Howe Album is great, Patrick Moraz first solo album Story of I is also great.
Also you should check out Jon's collaboration with Vangelis, Jon and Vangelis, especially the albums Short Stories and A Private Collection. The track Horizon is like a Yes epic (it could have been one).
Lots of great stuff to check out- thanks!
I bought this 40 odd yrs ago in Woolworths £3.50
Oh, we do need to know...did you listen to the whole album, and what do you think?
Haven’t yet, but plan to!
Hi Shufflers. Dave from London. Some great music in there, but I thought the mixture of orchestra, choir and rock band was a little OTT and messy. I was a Rick fan back then, and bought the King Arthur and Rhapsodies albums. My impression is that Rick prioritised his solo career over Yes. Much as I like Going For the One, I felt Patrick Moraz got booted out because Rick had a space in his diary! Just my impression!
