Dan and Octavio, fantastic video on the expression of JKD, that Bruce gave us, the gift of self-discovery through the art of self expression and yet through his experience and studies - the most efficient structure and details that are root for one to continue their own exploration. Great team! Thank you.

I read this at 16 years old and then had the privilege of spending 2 days training in a seminar with Burton Richardson. Absolutely unforgettable and inspiring being so near men of such discipline and knowledge. Twenty years have passed and I am still benefiting from those days.

Nice thoughtful discussion, Dan! I've always liked that Zen story about the student who comes to the master and asks him, "How long will it take me to get my black belt.?" The master replies, "Five years." The student then asks, "But what if I train really hard and ask a lot of questions?" The master firmly says, "The it will take you ten years!" :-)

Thank you, Dan, for this video on Jeet Kune Do and Bruce Lee. I learned a little from a student of Bruce’s in the U.District in Seattle in 1971-72 long after Bruce had left the area, I think. I heard some good stories. Bruce Lee was my biggest hero growing up. Thank you.

    Dan Lok,
I live in an isolated rural area and so cannot attend dojos and such like but my husband was a skilled Akidoka, he also was a gang leader (2IC of a gang of 4000 members in Glasgow, Scotland) before he became a Christian and started to live a holy life. He knew Scottish sword fighting and skene dhu (Scottish dagger fighting and throwing) as well and later trained to be a Master Marksman (firearms). He was very serious about the martial side of his life, but you are right when you say it can be very positive.
We lived in a bad area and sometimes I would see him fight people who were attacking us as a family and he was amazing! Once, two women had big chains and a baseball bat but he won the fight and his opponents were flung around like ragdolls.
These women had been terrorizing the whole neighbourhood for at least a year.
He could have killed them, he was fighting so furiously but was totally self controlled even in his fury. It was amazing to watch. Afterwards, he told them he just wanted them to stop their evil ways and follow Christ.
When the Police arrived these women tried to blame him for starting the fight, which was stupid because the whole street was watching the fight and knew that they attacked him. But my husband would not press charges against them, because he knew they had learned their lesson and wanted no ongoing aggression or conflict. What was done was done and he knew that his Martial Arts had ended the conflict and saved his family.
Afterwards, one of these fighters who attacked him with chains and a baseball bat sent us a Christmas card, apologising for the trouble she had caused and wishing him a Merry Christmas and thanked him for being a positive influence in her life(!) We were all surprised, but pleasantly so!
The best people I have met in this world have also been the most Martial, but who use their skills in a right way, for self discipline and the protection of those whom they love.
Such a use of Martial Arts definitely makes you richer, not only financially but also Spiritually and in your Soul as well.
You are able to walk about in your life and not be frightened.
God Bless You and keep up the good work!
BTW, I am going to be a Billionaire one day! I have "a Plan with a capital P" and have begun to put it in action, and it is working! Your videos and others like them are going to mean the difference between an old age of Immense Wealth and Immense Poverty for me, so once again, Thankyou!
All the Best to You and Your's!

Hello my name is Te Tao Nui I'm 22 I'm from New Zealand. I'm Maori cross Jahapeth, Scottish and Irish my ancestor is William Wallace. I learned about JKD through my Father who is Master of Den Mak he was trained by The Wu Sit. My dad showed me my first Bruce Lee Movies. I understand what you are discussing. I believe Bruce Lee recreated an ancient style of Tiger and Dragon. I'm no master but JKD is my fav style cos it makes everything fluid. Water is a fluid motion. Be like water, Water fills any container. why I say that is you are the Water and also the container.

My favorite tenets of Jkd_Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is essentially your own.
    No limitation, as limitation
    No way, as way.

THAT'S A GREAT TESTIMONIES AGAIN FROM BOTH OF YOU MY MASTERS
    TRULY WE NEED
    MENTORS
YES WE SHOULD NOT DEPEND ONLY WITH WHAT WE ARE TRAINED WITHOUT ANY MENTOR, MEANING
WORKING WITH OUR OWN, VIEWING FIGHTS IN YOU TUBE WITHOUT THE REAL TRAINING, SO YOU CAN'T TRY YOURSELF WETHER YOU HAVE THAT KIND OF RIGHT MOVE, RIGHT TRACK OF FIGHTING, OR WITHOUT REALLY AN OPPONENTS THROUGH TRAINING WITH YOUR CO TRAINEE!
A HIGH GRATITUDE TO YOU BOTH MY RESPECTABLE MENTORS !

alots of thing in life have alot of similarites to it. I think this is where creativity comes from the uncommon connections you make to things. "their attitude is getting in the way", is that so common in our everyday lives in whatever we do, I definetly think sometimes in business I think this way and it can stunt my growth, which is why I search for teachers to become more aware of the truth of the art so to say, the craft, the process.

Ill probably get WW 3 started but I get sick of the people who say that JKD , Wing Chun, Kenpo Karate etc are no good cause they don't do well in MMA. When the MMA people fail to realize that in the ring you take away JKDs , Wing Chun's main weapons, when your teained to chop throats, guage eyes, knee stomops etc all the time vs sport mma. Yoy toss the wing chun in there with ruled where all his tools are taken vs fighter thats trained to fight umder those ruled for years narurally they are going to beat up the Wing Chun or JKD guy and thus claim they are better....
How do yoy deel with these type of people who can not see that one is designed for competition the other for self preservation??

I have to completely disagree about this, Jeet Kune Do concepts and philosophies are quite clearly described in the book 'Tao of Jeet Kune Do' and many of Bruce's actual students like Dan Inosanto, his wife Linda etc. went on to explain finer points about his ever-evolving art. No way as way, take what is useful and develop from there. I have had Tao since I was 18 and the other Bruce Lee's Fighting Arts books. You can get a good understanding of the basics from those four books and Tao. They are very detailed and describe a style of movement and art that is quite comprehensive.
