It would have been great if they actually connected the story to Snow White. Would have made more meaning to it. Say, Snow White is actually the white queen's daughter thought to be dead but just locked up high on the tower. I was expecting that in the end Charlize would confess that the snow queen's daughter is actually alive, while both of them are dying.
unfair. this was not a great movie. But it is still "worth the money". Positives Great visual and CGI. The movie is visually great and even though it is CGI heavy and you can feel the CGI, this is how you should use CGI. Its very well done and apart from the one creature scene in the forest, the rest is very polished. As one critics notes here the costume designs are great as well. Star Cast - Even though this is decidedly a middle of the road performance for them this is really a solid cast. I mean Charlize Theron, Hemsworth, Blunt, and Jessica Chastain. Really good cast and their presence alone adds a lot to the movie. A well structured narrative - The narrative of the movie is structured well. And even though you would question a lot of what is happening the story moves along at brisk pace. And brings in new characters and developments as it goes along. The movie also has a few plot twists and even though they are predictable at least they are not wasted in the sense that they are used at the right moment in the narrative. Weaknesses- Lacks the dramatic and emotional heft. For a movie of this nature, a fairytale with themes of love, etc etc the movie lacks emotional depth. The director is unable to extract the emotional or dramatic mileage that he could have or should have from many scenes. For e.g. as a spoiler alert there is scene where Emily Blunt sees herself in the past with her baby. Now that was a good example of how to get more out of scene. How to make it more impactful. And there are much such scenes where the director had a chance to create a solid impact. But he does not make use of the opportunity. And in these type of fairytales fantasy movies or that matter any movie individual scenes matter a lot. You have to allow the scene to play out completely. Many scenes are not. Its only towards the climax that it seems that the interaction becomes gripping. And the climax scene is well done. Acting- Acting is mediocre. This movie definitely fails to get the performance required. You have to give Charlize Theron the discount. She does not have a longish role. But she continues her performance from first movie. Chris Hemsworth - He looks the part and his acting is decent but his accent is distracting. Some times he speaks with what I assume is Irish accent. Sometimes he does not. Sometimes his accent is strong, sometimes its weak. Emily Blunt - She is the main character of the movie. And to her credit she tries to give an earnest performance. Mind you hers was not an easy role to play. She does not have to play a witch who speaks only in menacing and loud tone. She had to play a character who is good at heart and yet circumstances make her bad. Plus she has to portray goodness, grief, anger, and wickedness in varying degree, all in one character. Its to her credit she gives the audience a feel of her character's emotions in some degree. Some of her scenes are also not as well written as they ought to be. And that's to her credit. A challenging role not played to perfection but still well done. Jessica Chastain - She had the looks but her character is not as well developed. And somehow the chemistry between her and Hemsworth is rather weak. Storyline - The storyline of this movie is also rather not as logical as it ought to have been. Everything or rather quite something does not fit. Why does Snow White give away the mirror ? How does Charlize Theron survive ? The second meeting of Jessica Chastain and Hemsworth is also very convenient. So there are times where the movie takes its liberties. Overall - Does not impress but does not disappoint either. Its not bad but there is nothing that is really standout in the movie apart from its visuals, CGI, and the presence of several A listers. Could have been lot better if some more effort was put on the screenplay, acting and making the narrative more logical. Still worth a watch. I would give it a 6.5 out of 100.
Can we stop the Frozen comparisons, Frozen is based on The Snow Queen, you could say this based on The Snow Queen, but not Frozen. It's like if they made another Snow White movie and you said it was based on Snow White and the Huntsman, they come from the same story but they're not related. Maybe if this had a sentient snowman and singing rock trolls then you could say it's based on Frozen, but so far as I know this has neither so stop mentioning Frozen.
Omg why is this movie so hated I really liked it I loved emily blunt and Charlize therone acting but I do agree with the accents but overall I just don't get it??
I enjoyed this film! I'd recommend seeing this film in cinemas. (I'd say its suitable for ages 9 and up). The Pros: + The Cast (Chris Hemsworth, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, Charlize Theron & Nick Frost, plus newcomers). + No Kristen Stewart (Stewart was atrocious in the first film. So thankfully she is not in this film). + Stunning Costumes by Colleen Atwood (3-time Academy Award Winner). + Narration by Liam Neeson. + Song: 'Castle' by Halsey. + Attractive Cast (especially Chris Hemsworth & Charlize Theron). + Good SFX, Production Design, Cinematography & Locations. + Good Hair & Make-up. + Strong Female Characters. + Strong Male Character/s also. + (2) Sexual Scenes (Mild; not too explicit. If you were concerned). + Entertaining (I wasn't bored). + Some Nice Surprises. + This film doesn't mess around with or ruin an already established and beloved story. Flaws: - Jessica Chastain's Scottish accent (it's out of place and unnecessary). - Disney 'Frozen', 'Brave', 'Narnia' & 'Maleficent' comparisons. - Poor Marketing (the trailers!). - A few rushed scenes. - Not enough screen time for Charlize Theron (I wanted a bit more of her in this film). - Some wasted Supporting Actors: Ralph Ineson, Colin Morgan & Sam Claflin - only have one scene each.
The movie is good for camp! Also, Christy, you've got some pretty bad sun damage on your skin. Seriously, get thee to a dermatologist for your own safety.
Tim Grierson is so softspoken and intelligent. bring him back more often please!
+doody magoob I like him a lot, tho had to turn up my computers volume to max lol.

Actually your comment makes great sense, I hope the could understand that.
Lets be honest this movie wasnt made to tell a good snow queen story, it was made to cash in out of frozen's popularity
Oh good it's Mr. Excitment
The best prequel/sequel movie is and always will be The Godfather: Part II
I'd say either "The Empire Strikes Back", or "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan".
No, that is wrong
Best dvd box quote ever "a good movie to glance at"
It's a pre-sequel. Those seldom turn out well.
+kokofan50 "Prequel" is already a portmanteau of "pre-" and "sequel".
How does it compare to the last movie? I quite enjoyed that one
why do some people think kristen didnt want to so it they didnt want her back do to the bad publicity of the first flick
I mean, I'm just saying, Freya I think is based on the Snow Queen hence the Frozen similarities.
whoever designed that table, good fucking job
This movie is a joke. Really, why does it even exist? Really AWFUL.
+Thomas 94 Because money. Also don't worry they hint at a sequel in the last scene
Ian Levinson Except this looks like it's gonna lose money, as it should. So they hopefully stop making these GARBAGE movies...
So was the first one really profitable?
+film79 yep
+film79 Worldwide BO: $396,592,829
You must watch The Huntsman Winter's War plus.google.com/+AurelliaRidly/posts/hnhUXtS5cg3 because this movie is very awesome.
I'm soooooo delighted that this bombed
Charlize is my favorite actress. Emily and Jessica are great also. I was unimpressed by the first movie so I don't need to see this.
Such a great cast wasted on such a crappy movie...
the editing needs a lil work
The next movie should be called "Civil Soldier."😁
The Snow White Legacy
(Then it fell apart. It fell apart.)
Christy is so beautiful!
Sign me up for hard labor servitude under either of the two queens.
I'm going to start using "fetish-chic" in conversations now
am I the only one that loved it??
still enjoyed da mve doe
Omg why is this movie so hated I really liked it I loved emily blunt and Charlize therone acting but I do agree with the accents but overall I just don't get it??

+POTTERHEAD ages 9 and down*
already on my top 10 WORST movies for 2016! The only good thing in this movie is the song at the end credit.
Can you guys shorten the review time to 5 mins or less? Sometimes less is more. just saying...
+Arges Hagan Not when it comes to attention spans, sonny-jim.
The movie is good for camp!
