Like woody Allen gets to remake just go with it, Martin Scorsese gets grown ups, Quentin Tarantino gets the wedding singer, Alfred Hitchcock gets click, James wan gets 50 first dates, spike lee gets 8 crazy nights, Spielberg gets that's my boy, Hayoa Miyazaki with hotel Transylvania 2, and Ridley Scott gets the first hotel Transylvania. You get the idea lol

    So Emily Blunt doesn't play Elsa, she plays someone . . . ELSE. EH?
    Anyone? Anyone?

  • @safy907
    @safy907 8 лет назад +45

    I wasn't going to this movie due to the various bad reviews, but I ended up going with friends and it wasn't bad. Maybe I was expecting it to be very bad, but I was always entertained. Also, everybody is saying that Emily Blunt was awful. I loved both her and Charlize Theron. The one I was expecting to be better was Jessica Chastain. I think she didn't portray the traitorous/indecided part very well, or as well as I expected and wanted. So, it wasn't the movie of the year, but it was entertaining enough to be worth the ticket.

    • @Goldigga5

      +safy907 I feel like they had a good idea but it was badly executed.

    • @safy907
      @safy907 8 лет назад +1

      +Goldigga5 The part in the middle, with the romance force fed into us, was a bit much. The rest I thought it was ok. Maybe because I was expecting it to be awful I ended liking it more than it deserve

    • @Goldigga5
      @Goldigga5 8 лет назад +2

      safy907 I personally didn't mind the romance too much, I'm not even sure what it is that I don't like about it. The film wasn't as bad as people made it seem, but it wasn't good either. I can't see myself watching it again though lol

    If anyone had the balls to make a version of "The Little Mermaid" with the real ending, they'd have my respect til the end of times. But that's never gonna happen.

    • @Charizarzar
      @Charizarzar 8 лет назад +7

      +Marie Alexandrinne Even these fairy tale movies that try to be gritty and dark wouldn't have the balls to make the ending for that.

    • @mariealexandrinne6997
      @mariealexandrinne6997 8 лет назад +2

      Charizarzar No they won't, because it's not a "happily ever after" ending...yet that's what makes it beautiful.

      There was actually one animated anime version of the little mermaid made around 1975, it follows the Anderson story closely and includes the sad ending. You can easily find it on RUclips if your curious.

    Hansel and Gretel Directed by James WanThat story is one of fairy tale horror and creepiness. There's an ever present sense of foreboding the minute the two children find the old lady, while also maintaining a background story that is quite surreal. Wan thrives off stuff like that and he knows how to do horror well without relying on guys and gore. You get a well told fairy tale that is both dark but very true to its roots, without overstepping into an R rating because Wan would make it scary without any gratuitous gore.

    ***SPOILERS BELOW, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED***
    Hi Jeremy,
    The bar fight was a set-up. There are 2 reasons for this. First, when the queen comes for the mirror in the forest, she explicitly stated that she sent the wife to find him. Secondly, when the brawl "leader" gets his hand cut off, he is surprised, as if that was not part of the plan. The failed brawlers are then seen by the queen and she is happy.
    I value your opinion, but I think you rushed this review, as this was a key plot point.
    (ps, I feel that you miss read the ice queen. she wasn't supposed to have no emotion and be a warrior. She was conflicted by her feeling towards love. She hates it because her lover killed her baby, but loves it because she loved her daughter. That is why she surrounds herself with her loveless warrior "children". In my opinion, Blunt played her role well, she had an "emotionless face" but showed conflict in her eyes. But that is only opinion. Keep making reviews, love to hear your thoughts, just don't let your boredom make you miss key plot points.)

    I didn't watch the first Snow White movie. But my sister dragged me into this one, thus my expectations were pretty low. But I was very pleasantly suprised by this movie. It had a lot of little twists and turns that suprised me multiple times and made the story (at least for one who isn't familiar with the franchise) somewhat unpredictable so that the grand finale is very satisfying when you're there. Yes, Emily Blunts charackter and performance were a little boring, but Charlize Theron was, after Mad Max, AGAIN super awesome and cool! The slight notes of humor with the dwarfes also worked for me, so a big recommendation for newcomers to the franchise.

    I really liked your idea in the jungle book review of doing a live-action lion king. That could be a dark, gritty story and it could be brilliant. As for fairy tales, I've always thought it would be very cool to do a gruesome reselling of red riding hood, mainly focused on (cringe warning) the woodcutter/ hunter trying to find and kill a huge beast which is terrorizing his village. I actually got well into an original story similar to this, where the story begins with the hunter's failure to protect red from the wolf, and he is the only survivor at granny's house. Now, that could be campy and awful, but if it's done well, and realistically (somewhat like the tone of the Revenant) it could be awesome.

    i'd really love to see a Red Riding Hood horror movie - the one that came out X years ago was all right (a bit too 'twilight' imo) but I would really love to see a very practical, gritty version of it without the focus on romance. And there is a Swedish folklore story about Skogsrået (a creatures that lives in the Woods and looks like a woman from the front, but a hollowed out tree from the back). There are several really cool and interesting norse stories that would make super cool movies!

    On one hand, I totally agree. Emily Blunt probably would not have been playing The Ice Queen and The Ice Queen probably would not be in this movie had it not been for the success of Elsa in Frozen. HOWEVER, Elsa in Frozen and the movie Frozen, itself, would not have existed if not for the prior existence of the fairy tale of The Ice Queen, which Emily Blunt's character of The Ice Queen in this movie was also based on. :)
    Also, not only was Thor confused as to which war he was supposed to be in, but the confusing for him may have been compounded by the fact that it was far too early and there were far too few characters to really call Cap3 Civil War, and this version of Civil War centered around what to do about Bucky, a guy called The Winter Soldier, and Captain America: Civil War may have been more precisely called Captain America: Winter's War (or skirmish, not so much of a war, but you get the idea).
    Mighty Thor (because we all know that Chris Hemsworth is not a real person, but just the human persona of the real-life Thor) was probably lounging on his father's throne looking at nude Snapchat pics of Jane when Heimdall came to him and said "You've got mail." Thor looked at the manuscript, thought the "huntsman" part sounded familiar, but didn't pay any attention to it, then saw the words "Winter's War."
    "Ah! We are taking arms against the captain's wayward friend in this glorious tale. Have at thee!"

    I usually agree with your reviews and believe me when I say I hated this film but there's one aspect of your analysis I disagree with
    I think Emily Blunts character could've had a few better scenes towards the end but I think in general it had the biggest nuance and symbolism to it (the fact that she 'had' to become loveless but never really did because the children were 'her'children and she never wanted to hurt them purposely ie she didn't want to send them to a war they couldn't win - against snow white) and I think Emily played that really well (it brought back her stiffness from Devil Wears Prada but in a much more serious way) I think she was perfectly caste and in an assumed lovelessness role that didn't really require heartlessness although some of the scenes could've been written better

    A darker Beauty and the Beast would be great. I know there's the 1946 one, but a new version, I guess. I know Disney is doing a live action reboot but it probably will not stray much from the animated version.
