I really enjoyed this film! It's refreshing to have such an unpredictable ending for such a big movie franchise. And I agree that the epilogue perhaps wasn't necessary but that's mainly to make book fans happy since the book ends with that exact line. And the Return of the King ending was also dragged out but it was nice to say goodbye to our favourite characters then too. :)
+Mie R the ending seemed so obvious to me. And the Return of the King gag is something everyone acknowledges but with those endings it makes it that much more stronger
MrKJ444 I don't mean the ending of the film, I mean the ending of the franchise. A series that was about the rebellion against the government ends with Katniss killing the leader of the rebellion. Did you honestly see that coming when watching the previous films?
Ana Pizinger In the books? In the books a lot more time had passed in the epilogue - 15 years - and they had two slightly older children (no baby). The last lines Katniss says in the film though are the last lines of the book so I guess having her talk to the baby was the best way to get those lines in.
Chillbro Swaggins So? Read wiki and interviews. They are considering a spin-off film series just like Fantastic Beasts will be a spin-off series that not based on a book series, perhaps a prequel featuring the pre-Games war
This whole movie series is the perfect example of how a good director can elevate even a mediocre story into a classic. The novels are the run-of-the-mill YA melodrama with unimaginative writing full of cliches like stupid love triangles and whotnots. But filmmakers took it and realistically deconstructed of all those cliches and tropes, and turned it into an almost philosophical discussion about really heavy topics like propaganda vs. truth, nature of power etc. And all the while they followed the storyline pretty straight forward and used those really bad dialogues in the novel. But they changed the tone all together just by minimalistic acting, cinematography and atmosphere. The cold and serious atmosphere, the feel of alienation and dredd in actors' faces and voices muzled all that melodrama and made it perfect.
Us book readers know EXACTLY what "one line" you're talking about & it would have been the *PERFECT* ending!! But no, it got ruined with that horrible epilogue. I hated it!
Ana Pizinger Idk, I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm assuming so. I just meant that when she said that there was "one line" that the movie should have ended on, I knew exactly what line she meant from reading the books
The Hunger Games movies are to the book fans, what the Harry Potter movies will never be. I couldn't wait to see Katniss with the babies. These movies put what's on the page, on the screen, with brilliant actors giving great performances. All of this was lacking in the Harry Potter movies.
I agree with the guy in the middle simply because of his approach and breakdown of what he found interesting in the movie. I'm excited to see if my predisposition holds up when I actually see the film.
I'm glad that critics are noticing that splitting one movie into two is nothing but a cash grab. There's no reason to have The Hunger Games 3: Mockingjay Part 2 of 2
Having dived deeply into the books, this is the one case where I can agree with the decision to split the final book into two films. It could've worked, but Mockingjay part 1 really didn't capture the drama and the desolate atmosphere of that section of the book. If it was better adapted, that movie could've been better. The introduction to part 2 is also disappointing, but most of Mockingjay part 2 is excellent and very very accurate.
It sad that we live in a world of pointless entertainment. The movies had to be split because there is much to chew on. I love films and books that actually make me think. Those who lack critical thinking and just want endless action will miss the deep themes in the overall series.
I wish critics would stop complaining about there being two movies. That last book had so much going on, introducing so many characters that were super important to the endgame. You could not put everything in Part 1 into Part 2 and make a satisfying movie. Not saying there isn't any padding or anything, or that it was done perfectly, but I think most critics of the third book were relieved that they decided to split it.
Reviews for this are really good (75 out of 100 in Metacritic, as good as Catching Fire). Can´t wait! 2015 has been a weaker year for blockbusters than 2012, 2013 and 2015 (Mad Max has really saved the year), so this is more than welcome.
I do NOT agree about making it one movie. The first two movies lose so much of the interesting social commentary from the books and the first one had this amazing political commentary and this one gets to take the time to talk about war and I love that they split them.
Mockingjay really needed to be broken up into two films because the first half of the book it tonally different than the second. This movie was pretty faithful to the book. However, the cut 4 pod scenes in the capital from the movie. These scenes would have probably gotten the movie an R rating due to their gruesomeness. The Mutts were just like how I imagined them when I was reading the book.
this movie was beautifully faithful to the book and by far the best in the series ! as well the fact that they split the book was a good idea in this case if they hadn't they would have to cut too many scenes that they would need to make it work as a whole all in all it was an amazing film
Christy nailed it-I fell asleep five times in the first hour. This movie was painfully boring until the final act. Then it got boring again. Should have been 1 movie not two.
I hate to comment on this, because I love Christy's commentary, and she is so much more important than this but... THAT HAIR THO, someone touch up Christy's hair or do something! Also, Alonso's hair.. on point, as always.
what's wrong with this movie is the story. It sets up Katniss as an action hero, but she is largely a bystander to the action in the later two movies. There is incredible world building, but it is largely ignored in favor of a love triangle. The love triangle itself I found trivial. To gain depth, the author throws in an artificial contrivance of brainwashing - which is simply lazy script writing. To get any depth from Kat, we see she feels overcome by the casualties of war - a trope of nearly every war and many action films.
+Eagle Falonhawk I understand that, but why are they happy that it is a good adaptation of the book but then saying things in the movie shouldnt be there when they were in the book?
The Giver feels like a knock-off, even if the book came out before? I agree that Divergent is a Hunger Games knock-off, but The Hunger Games is clearly a knock-off of books like Battle Royale, The Long Walk and, yes, The Giver. The Hunger Games are good, decent, three-star novels; The Giver is one of the greatest pieces of Young Adult literature, ever.
+Michael Norris I guess. The Giver movie was completely dreadful and probably mostly an effort to cash in on the success of The Hunger Games. Still, the book is amazing.
This movie was politics for 3rd graders. The scope of the first movie was small enough to keep the willing suspension of disbelief alive but as the world was more deeply explored in the subsequent films, it rang annoyingly false.
9? Really, this film wasn't bad , but it was just average. This film is just a 6.4 out of 10. Not bad, but seriously 9? Alonso you're really ridiculous sometimes.
This series was so horrible. The main character catness never really evolved. Every single film she had the exact same emotional arch. This was an awful film franchise and I am glad it is over!
the more I watch people give reviews about both the movies the part 1 and now part 2 THEY HAD to break it up. No one would have liked it in one seating because the information that is given is too deep. The book is slow to begin with but that is the point. SMH People need to read the books before watching movies like this because it requires some intelligence to understand the movies. THEY REALLY DUMD DOWN THE BOOKS POINTS for the mass audience to put in on screen. It not a movie for average movie goers.
As someone who hasn't read the books, this movie really sucked. Totally predictable and dragged on for too long. Definately the worst movie in the series.
I haven't read the books and I felt the complete opposite. I loved this movie to death and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It's honestly my favorite one and the best out of the 3. It was not predictable at all.
It wasn't good. The whole franchise lacks all that amazing political stuff that series like Game of Thrones have. I wish that the books had more details about the actual world, rather than the forced teenage romance stuff, which seems to be crammed into 90% of Hollywood's movies these days. The world is so interesting, yet the books and the movies fail to open it up. "Oh we're teenagers fighting for our lives and playing with guns. Grrrr!"...that's so cheesy and bad. I hated the whole 'forming of the squad' in the beginning. I immediately knew who was going to die and cringed my way through it anyway. Luckily i didn't have to pay for my ticket. The cinematography was well done, i'll give them that, and it had decent acting in parts. 3/10 wouldn't recommend to anyone above 17.
+Kevin Alvarez Some of the finest science fiction novels I ever read were Robert Heinlein's "juveniles". Writing to young adults is not a craze that will ever end!
+sawadee2000 I'm talking about movies. I find all these watered down YA movies utterly annoying. There will always be YA books, I just hope they stop making movies about bland teens.
i dont know i was just never never a fan of this not the books i couldnt get through the second one first one was plain fine movies never worked for me too it was pretty dull all of them i mean maybe im a dick hipster but i hated it the whole thing
I really enjoyed this film! It's refreshing to have such an unpredictable ending for such a big movie franchise. Not in the previous films, which is why the twist in the end makes zero sense. And when Katniss decides to kill her it's really obvious
+Mie R Did they still have kids?
Ana Pizinger In the books? In the books a lot more time had passed in the epilogue - 15 years - and they had two slightly older children (no baby). "uh" - Matt Atchity
Lol
The final Hunger Games film. Until they make prequels. And a reboot in 10 years.
They are seriously already talking about it. They want to do a spin off series
Chillbro Swaggins So? Read wiki and interviews. They are considering a spin-off film series just like Fantastic Beasts will be a spin-off series that not based on a book series, perhaps a prequel featuring the pre-Games war
once again Alonso proves hes not just a one note movie critic. When was the last time a movie critic gave a popcorn movie a 9?
Where are all the people who say Alonso doesn't like anything?
Hahahahaaa! 😄
+D Mc I am Flipping Shocked he likes a movie, I'm going to see it tomorrow.
+D Mc Color me shocked...
Im here, and for the first time i agree with alonso
That look of Matt when he hears Alonsos score was some serious shit. He kinda looked like Spacey when he´s breaking the 4th wall in house of cards lol
...and the look on Alonzo's face when Christy gave her score. lol!

+devsox1 The epilogue scene pretty nice in the movie. It's a little different, but still beautiful.
+Ana Pizinger Yes they have kids. They're different genders and ages than they were in the book but they still have 2 kids
Alonso drinking a big iced coffee during a review....classic.
The Hunger Games movies are to the book fans, what the Harry Potter movies will never be.
I couldn't wait to see Katniss with the babies. These movies put what's on the page, on the screen, with brilliant actors giving great performances. All of this was lacking in the Harry Potter movies.
Is 2015 the year of disappointing and overhyped movies?
+J Wizard Phoenix hope not, The Revenant and The Hatefull Eight are still coming.
+MoJoFavaios And Star Wars.
+Fangtorn Yep, nothing overhyped about that.
+strk Nothing overhyped about Star Wars if it brings the goods. And if it's 10% as good as the trailers then it will.
+J Wizard Phoenix Who has been hyping The Hunger Games? It's extremely under-hyped.
I agree with the guy in the middle simply because of his approach and breakdown of what he found interesting in the movie. I'm excited to see if my predisposition holds up when I actually see the film.
first act: ugh
second act: yesss.
third act: blegh

Nice to hear they did the lizard scene well. I always liked that bit in the book. They just kill everybody...
What's the ending Christy is referring to and the one line that should have ended the film?
In the book there's a very important reason why she picks one guy over the other - is that in the movie too?
I wish critics would stop complaining about there being two movies. That last book had so much going on, introducing so many characters that were super important to the endgame.

why is everyone clapping their hands in the end
I agree with alonso for the first time
Really Alonso really? But I guess manii forgot he likes slow paced mmythology type movies

Holy shit! I saw the movie, and she actually DID pick President Snow!
I don't get this review. Did any of them read the books at all? :(
The books do not matter when it comes to movies. A movie should be judged on its on right not as an adaptation.
+Eagle Falonhawk I understand that, but why are they happy that it is a good adaptation of the book but then saying things in the movie shouldnt be there when they were in the book?
+Amanda Margaret Yeah, that was pretty stupid.
I wish they filled up the time with exciting action and not a lot of boring dialogue...
Alonso is obviously more a fan of the series than the other two--may the odds be ever in your favor Alonso
If she chose the HOT Underage Guy, Christy Lemire would have given it a 9/10. ;)
Good movie.
Finally Jennifer Lawrence can get out of this hole.
...so what on a 20 min recap in the film? The storyline lends itself to two parts, IMHO.
Oh Christie, stop with the 'poignant' already, we get it you know the word ! Learn a new one.
I just re-wached the first one it is, directed and shot terrybly. As if it was shot for TV, plus the horrendous "shaky-cam".
I can't wait for the next one to come out! Oh, you think it's over? Mwuahahaha... nope.
The Giver feels like a knock-off, even if the book came out before? Cant wait to take my sis to see it!!!!
Hopefully she doesn't end up like katniss' sister

This bored my boyfriend so badly. I didn't find it as engaging as the others. Alonso is overselling it. I'm team Gale always. Peeta annoys me.

they have to bring feminism into every conversation...
If you can't talk about feminism when a $120 million plus sci-fi war epic is being lead by a female in their early twenties, then when can you?
the raving about it seems much easier than the diminishing. one of the most overrated franchises ever.
9 is a bit high, but fucking 5.7????
Hunger Games. Bored. Yawn.
Alonso so cashed a check after this review.
Alonso is just a little girl just wanting to come out.
No mrs. Clause

Didn't understand response. Huh ???? or did you mean he's Mrs. Clause cause he looks like it? If so LOL

Wow Christy, way to mock the fans
Holy fucking spoilers much?
Meh....
this movie was horrible...Alonso needs to go away...far far away...
Glad these god-awful Hunger Games movies are finished.
Do you like marvel movies?
