Exactly! Erik is a raw talent, and it makes sense if his voice is rough. The refined voices of other singers don't do it justice.

Marko has formal training and also some 10 years the senior of Tuomas and Tarja leading his brothers in the band Tarot.
And as of 2023 and continuing in 2024 and 2025 He and Tarja have reunited as her guest.
He has his solo dates where he opens for her and guests as a singer with her and her band. After he opens for her. Other dates he is on tour with Tarot.
Summer 2023 in Switzerland, then better fan recording in Finland has the duo of Tarja and Marko singing together The Phantom of the Opera together for the 1st time since this October night in 2005.
The chemistry between them just emanates their friendship. The hugging and smiling and playing off of each other shows the mutual platonic love like brother and sister enjoying the other's work. ❤❤

I had never heard of Nightwish but a guy I use to date took me to see them. 15 years ago. Funny thing was , the people waiting for the band to go on kept thinking I was the lady singer 😊
I thought they were pretty good at the time, there was also a German metal band there. My boyfriend at a time told me the singer was known as the Godfather of rock or metal I’m not sure. we ended up meeting him behind the venue on a break. I got photos of my then boyfriend with this godfather of rock guy.
Unfortunately, the guy was more interested in me than taking photos with my boyfriend. This was somewhere around DC or Virginia. I can’t remember exactly where we were. it was a really cool rustic building with the stage not a huge concert hall

This song still makes my eyes water, every time.
The matching is no accident, she could do that on purpose and did. On some other songs she has a different vibrato or none at all, whichever fits best... what an outstanding talent. But it's really the warmth of her voice that gets me every time, high and low.

As others may mention, this is not an original Nightwish song. This is a cover/adaptation of the "lead" song from the original stage show written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and iirc performed by Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. Hence why all the references you were correctly picking up, they are the original lyrics. Sir Andrew is also on record as saying he absolutely loves this version.
And no doubt you'll get lots of requests to listen to the more recent Nightwish version with Floor and Henk Port. A word of warning if you do decide to react to it.....don't get drawn into comparisons (as it'll no doubt trigger certain people in the comments!) Floor and Tarja have totally different voices, just sit back and enjoy them both.
You NEED to react to the version of this with Floor Jansen and Henk Poort. She is Nightwish's current lead singer and he actually plays the Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera. It is easily my favorite version.

What in the siren song is happening? A classically trained singer with a 3 octave range is singing a song from an opera. This is not an original Nightwish song, this is the song Phantom of the Opera, from the opera Phantom of the Opera with the music changed from the original to rock music. No shade, bands do covers all the time and this adaptation is perfect for Tarja to show off her vocal talents.

everyone knows Floor, she's super popular with everyone, especially right now, and is a really good singer, having a huge variety of singing capability (pop, classical/opera, belting, growling/raspy), able to sing nightwish's old songs that were for Tarja's classical/opera singing, as well as new songs for her own variety/range of singing abilities
Unfortunately for Annette, she's a pop/rock singer, and a very good singer too, but her pop/rock singing just didn't go that well with nightwish's music, which was made for Tarja's dark classical/opera singing. So, usually, she gets left out.
so, it comes down to "Targasm” (Tarja) vs “Floorgasm” (Floor) in terms of the Nightwish singers in who you like most, if you like classical/opera singing better, Tarja is better at it, but that's all she does back when with nightwish, as nightwish was created for tarja's unique dark operatic singing/voice, (now with her own band, or solo, she does a greater range of singing), but she does it really well, she's really got a beautiful voice, if you like more pop singing, belting and growling/raspy, with or without classical/opera singing, than you like Floor better
I knew nightwish from the early 2000s, so Nightwish will always be with Tarja, but Nightwish with Floor is really good too, but it's Tarja, who's my favorite singer with nightwish

this is about the 'phantom of the opera' with tarja nightwish, but it applies to tarja for all other NW songs too:
Tarja has her own stage performance/presence, but the focus is on the entire band (much more respectful), unlike with floor, where the focus is almost entirely on her, and also, Phantom of the Opera isn't about that much showmanship, so you're not seeing more of Tarja's performance/presence (love how the camera work and Tarja worked together, with her ducking down, seeing Marcus as he delivered his singing, and then Tarja stands back up, seeing her face back in the camera as Marco's part ends and hers begins again, Tarja is really such a team player, as she could have had all the focus upon herself, like Floor gets, but instead she chooses to give the entire band the respect and focus that they too deserve, it's not all about Tarja, like it is with Floor, despite how good Tarja is and thus how she could be the entire focus with nightwish, as is Floor with nightwish)
there's other songs, where Tarja was way way way more stage performance/presence/showmanship, including hair windmills, rocking an invisible guitar along with empuu rocking his guitar, along with her doing her squatting too as she sings and taps her foot/leg to it, as she's swinging those hips too, along with her getting the crowd involved as well too, and etc stuff, you got to watch way more songs, to really see her amazing stage presence/performance and showmanship, as Phantom of the Opera is likely the one song with the least of that stuff, due to the nature of the song itself, being about their singing (contrasting and then cacophonous harmonous duet, nothing can compete with Tarja and Marco voices duet'ing), though Marco and Tarja had a bit of showmanship and fun snuck into it, with Marco pointing to his face and Tarja's facial expression reactions, while both song their parts

Nightwish's first singer Tarja Turunen is fired immediately after this concert due to artistic and private differences. Her successor is found a year later through an audition. Tarja remained an established singer even after Nigtwish. Not quite as successful, but she can make a good living from it:

In 2001 he replaced the first bassist and in 2021 he left the band because he no longer wanted to serve the commercial interests of the financiers. That's why he doesn't want to make music anymore. But he quickly breaks his word and appears in videos from other bands. In 2022 he will suddenly be on tour in Finland with the super group Northern Kings and at the end of the year he will be touring with his solo program. In 2023 he will be on tour worldwide again. The latest release is a collaboration with another supergroup:

So just heads up Knox, the music and lyrics were written by Andrew Loyd Webber for the stage play of Phantom of the Opera. Nightwish simply did an awesome rendition of the original track.

My favourite adaptation & performance of this song! It has the phantom's monstrosity on clear display, unlike most versions - more Nosferatu than Dracula - and their voices in one combined, just awesome! A side note: the lyrics were co-written by Richard Stilgoe, who is best known to Brits of my age for regularly writing and performing skit songs on current affairs programs back in the 70s. He ploughed his royalties from the musical into charity work, and runs (or ran, I'm not sure) a centre for young disabled performers.

Phantom is one of my favorite musicals and Nightwish does a great job with it.
