I totally agree, she did a really awesome job and was so believable in the role. It really made me appreciate what a great actor she is. I watched this movie yesterday and was totally blown away by how brilliant and beautiful it was. It's nice to read a comment from someone who's noticed how perfect Kristen Stewart was in the role. The reply you got from lukebccb is totally unjustified.
I don't know, I never got that, I mean what is the point of the fighting fire with fire shit it was going for when the supposedly hotter fire was sputtering embers, compared to the Tungsten Smelter Charlize Theron? It doesn't make sense at all.
Hey Alonso, both this and Princess Mononoke are referencing the same European deity, Hern, who is often depicted as a huge white stag with magnificent antlers.
I pretty much agree with Christy completely. This film is gorgeous, I'm sure it will get effects and art direction nominations when Oscar season rolls around. The performances, besides Theron, do suck and it is stupid a lot of the time, but it is definitely worth seeing just for the visuals.
Kristen Stewart did a good job as snow white. her facial expression and paleness work for her character. the movie was a little too long though and that fucking dwarf song was annoying as hell. but they should have done way more dark forest stuff.
I'm not sure what you mean about "there's usually one guy, this time there's two" love triangle whatever??? The Prince wasn't a love interest. I can see how some people might question that with the scene that I won't spoil, but there's no chemistry scenes between Snow and the Prince. The Prince is the Duke's son, which makes him Snow White's 1st Cousin. Watch it again -- that's her uncle and cousin and that's what you get out of the performances.
actually it is now in the 80s on the Tomato meter according to That Guy with the glasses review. Cinema Snob did another check and it is now in the 80s.
I saw the preview of Street Fighter and decided that was a no-go immediately. I did watch Twilight. I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for doing so. It actually hurt to watch. I now use that movie as a screening process for people I would possibly associate with.
I think Molly Dunsworth would've done good in the snow white role. Really pretty and youthful, fair skin, already has experience in the bad ass action role. Anyone else agree? If you don't know what she looks like look her up, gorgeous actress.
*chuckles* Very true. However I did watch this review before going to see the movie and while I was watching it had this conversation still fresh in my mind. The movie made it pretty clear that that whole storyline was her Uncle and Cousin doing what they could to protect the people and get back the throne for Snow. Absolutely no romantic chemistry or subtext there (except for the aforementioned scene that I will not spoil). That's all *smiles*
@sgtpeppper I don't hate Kristen Stewart as a person because, as you accurately pointe out, I don't know her. Honestly, I find her particularly engaging as an actress, and that's just a personal preference. Also, just judging by the trailer, it seemed like just another Hollywood CGI-heavy piece of rubbish with no decent plot. Anyway, I'll probably watch it when it comes out on DVD because it really does look beautiful, but I don't think it looks worth the price of a ticket.
The white Stag is an ancient Celtic totemic symbol which in one form signals that the time is nigh for a knight to pursue a quest and has fuck all to do with Studio Ghibli.
he actually made the point, more accurately as well, that I too had against the movie. Kristen Stewart for all her beauty and charms is no match for Charlize Theron either in physique or looks. She is not fairer than the queen. And the movie sort of made it a point to highlight her character more than Stewart. That was a big flaw of the movie. I mean yes Theron gave a good performance as I remember but if the movie is about Snow White, then her evil step mother cannot be the heroine. They should have cast somebody like Scarlett Johansson or Jennifer Lawrence or even Kate Winslet considering this movie was made like 10 years ago.
I hope all the war stuff doesn't become a trend in these movies based on disney classics. They did it with Alice in Wonderland and now with Snow White and imo it doesn't work. But I understand, they want to appeal to the action-loving younger audience.
Yeah, after seeing trailers for it she was my only problem, it looked really cool with a new stylized art style and the cast way great, besides Kristen Stewart. If only they had cast someone else.
Ben Mankiewicz, the movie critic who worked on Turner Classic and briefly on At the Movies, hasn't seen the first ever animated film.. Really? I mean I respect him and all, but it's shocking
I just saw the movie, I loved the dark forest and all the creatures in it. Loved the wadrobe (excepty for the one kristen wore at the begining). But Honestly this movie wasnt too thought out. They should of picked a different Actress to play Snow White, At some points it looked liked they tried to give Kristen less lines but it wasnt working. Charlize pretty much MADE everyone want go see this movie. You dont ever see kristen speak or much of her in the Trailer,Its all Charlize!
Actually i'd say 70% of reveiws or more and just general reaction i've seen so far, most of the people who love charlize theron think her overacting in this movie was so bad.
I looked at the IMDB page - according to them, the producers passed up actresses like Saoirse Ronan in favor of Kristin Stewart. Also, Charlize Theron was underwhelming; she looked promising in the trailer, but she was too hammy in the movie itself to take seriously.
I've never been attracted to Kristen Stewart, but I think she looks really good in this movie. Not moreso than Theron, but they're a different kind of attractive. She's not really attractive in Twilight, but she doesn't look bad here. btw, in Snow White, the inner beauty counts more than the outer beauty. Heck, I'd argue that the Queen in the Disney animated version is hotter than Snow White.
I found this move to be an enjoyable experience, it's a solid above average movie with gorgeous visuals and fantasy elements. However i do agree that the films drags in areas and the magic of the film is kinda of subdued because of the dreary proceedings, as well as the plot holes. However i enjoy seeing Chris Hemsworth bellow his way through hollywood, the british actors playing the dwarves are favourites of mine. Charlize Theron's schizophrenic performances is enjoyable and Kristen Stewart
Snow White was originally a Grimm fairy tale, the Grimm tales were much darker and in my opinion much better than the disney fairy tales. So if anything this was probably closer to the original fairy tale. The movie was cast amazingly, besides Kristen Stewart. Like they said, she's cute in her own way but she's no where near Theron, and I don;t even think she's as beautiful as other people think but I don;t think anyone would say Stewart is better looking than Theron.
I was just thinking the same thing! I mean, I liked Kristen Stewart in the role, don't get me wrong, but I think Emma Watson might have been a bit better. I find her more attractive than Stewart (well, to me, anyway), and I think she could have pulled off the vulnerability as well as the leadership/fierceness. I was happy with Kristen Stewart but Emma would have been my pick over her.
I'm neither a Twilight fan nor a hater. I have no familiarity with either the books or movies. And I still came out wishing they cast someone other than Stewart.
I think the theme was the Kristen Stewart had the POTENTIAL to become fairer than the Queen. That when she grew into her full womanly beauty, THEN she would be fairer.
I thought the SAME thing with the stag >___< I was literally gawking at the screen...and half the audience I was with (I live in Japan) wore a similar expression on their faces.
Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth + the amazing art direction kept the movie afloat for me, but Kristen Stewart's horrible acting alone nearly sank it.
Trust me, Walt Disney's version of this story is very very very very different than the Grimm Brother's version. Most fairy-tales are very dark and cruel.
I wanted to see whether Kristen Stewart sucked in Twilight because Twilight was terrible or because she's just a bad actress. I now know she's just a bad actress. I agree with Ben she's attractive though.
I hate critics they never give anything a chance its all a popularity contest. I found this to be the best version of Snow white yet. I admit I went in thinking this will suck but I came out thinking that it was great. Kristen was nothing like Bella in this (I hate Twilight btw) the queen had a background story that made her evil. It had strong females and an enthralling story.
Kristen Stewart will probably never live down Bella. Or it will take a long time. I feel like Stewart is talented but she needs to somehow bring that talent out. She needs a breakout role just like other twilight actors.
@Dane42o Haha, no. It was the first reason, but I'm also just sick of the Hollywood reimaginings of fairy tales. They're always pretty with lots of special effects, but the script and the plot always fall flat. I'd rather spend my money on Brave.
Kristen Stewart was fine in Into the Wild as the sort of lost teenager, but she totally doesn't fit as an action hero. She's the female Jesse Eisenberg.
I sometimes feel like I am the only person in the world that doesnt find Charlize Theron outrageously gorgeous... I mean she is really pretty obviously, but so are truckloads of other Hollywood actresses... I just dont get it :/
I totally agree, she did a really awesome job and was so believable in the role.
Charlize was the real stAR of the movie
This might have worked if Kristen Stewart wasn't Snow White.
She was so good in this film! Don't judge on her because of Twilight because she really did prove her haters wrong in this one. You should see it.
I like how the trailer is running, screaming, away from the fact that Kristen Stewart is actually in the film they have to promote.
I don't know, I never got that, I mean what is the point of the fighting fire with fire shit it was going for when the supposedly hotter fire was sputtering embers, compared to the Tungsten Smelter Charlize Theron? It doesn't make sense at all.
I thought Kristen was a good Snow White, she was just underwritten to the point the character was boring.
IMDB said that Saoirse Ronan was considered for the part. That would have been awesome, if that happened.
Kristen Stewart did a good job as snow white. her facial expression and paleness work for her character. the movie was a little too long though and that fucking dwarf song was annoying as hell. but they should have done way more dark forest stuff.

The Prince is the Duke's son, which makes him Snow White's 1st Cousin. Watch it again -- that's her uncle and cousin and that's what you get out of the performances.
hey adam, are you gonna review this and compare it to Mirror Mirror? i'd enjoy something like that
Ginnifer Goodwin is the prefect live action Snow White!!
actually it is now in the 80s on the Tomato meter according to That Guy with the glasses review.
How is this movie based on a Disney classic? Is there anything that they took from the Disney cartoon that does not occur in the original story?
emilia clarke!!
At least I am not the only one who made the Princess Mononoke connection with the stag.
I think Molly Dunsworth would've done good in the snow white role. Really pretty and youthful, fair skin, already has experience in the bad ass action role. Anyone else agree? If you don't know what she looks like look her up, gorgeous actress.

is it just me, or have there been four snow white movies this year?
one of the two cameras the color is way off
"Gong on the wall" would be more accurate
Clémence Poésy for Snow White?
Nice pull Alonzo on Kimberly Elise.
I have no Idea...
Also yea its about inner beauty. They didn't see this did they.
@sgtpeppper I don't hate Kristen Stewart as a person because, as you accurately pointe out, I don't know her. Umm...
The image of the magical stag is not something Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli invented. It was part of fairy tale lore way before Mononoke Hime.
The white Stag is an ancient Celtic totemic symbol which in one form signals that the time is nigh for a knight to pursue a quest and has fuck all to do with Studio Ghibli.
You aren't the only one.
I agree with you.
oh my gosh, I've missed Ben so much! Also..really liked Alonso's summing up of the subtext in the beginning.
he actually made the point, more accurately as well, that I too had against the movie. Kristen Stewart for all her beauty and charms is no match for Charlize Theron either in physique or looks. She is not fairer than the queen. And the movie sort of made it a point to highlight her character more than Stewart. That was a big flaw of the movie. and he gave perfect reply to Alonso Snow White. C'mon now don't get crazy ideas for all these classics.
I hope all the war stuff doesn't become a trend in these movies based on disney classics. They did it with Alice in Wonderland and now with Snow White and imo it doesn't work. But I understand, they want to appeal to the action-loving younger audience.

A rather shallow review, I have to say. Christy and Alonso are so concerned with making themselves look clever.
I meant Christy Lemire
I just saw the movie, I loved the dark forest and all the creatures in it. Loved the wadrobe (excepty for the one kristen wore at the begining). But Honestly this movie wasnt too thought out. I can't stand Kristen's acting but the movie looks really intriguing. Especially the 'dark forest' that they mentioned.
Kind of difficult to imagine any Magical Mirror concluding that Kristen Stewart is more beautiful than Charlize Theron.
Actually i'd say 70% of reveiws or more and just general reaction i've seen so far, most of the people who love charlize theron think her overacting in this movie was so bad.
I'm not so sure about that, cause she was actually the highest paid actress in 2011. :o
The utterly "Perfect " film doesn't exist so thousands of people would LOVE it ! But does "Daddy-Bear" in the check shirt ever like anything ??
I looked at the IMDB page - according to them, the producers passed up actresses like Saoirse Ronan in favor of Kristin Stewart. Also, Charlize Theron was underwhelming; she looked promising in the trailer, but she was too hammy in the movie itself to take seriously.
You guys r so. Honest with your reviews. I trust what you say.
Why were the dwarfs funny? Because they were small? I don`t get it
I was just thinking the same thing! I mean, I liked Kristen Stewart in the role, don't get me wrong, but I think Emma Watson might have been a bit better. I find her more attractive than Stewart (well, to me, anyway), and I think she could have pulled off the vulnerability as well as the leadership/fierceness. This would've been a better movie if they waited a few years and cast MAISIE WILLIAMS (Arya Stark in "Game of Thrones") as Warrior Snow White.
kristen acting in snowhite was perfect.
gives decent performances outside of the Twilight films. Overall decent film but dissapointing in areas, could of been a lot better.
dont worry about matt. he probably hadn't seen it anyway
I thought the SAME thing with the stag >___< I was literally gawking at the screen...and half the audience I was with (I live in Japan) wore a similar expression on their faces.
She's been cast to play Harry in a remake of Harry and the Hendersons.
Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth + the amazing art direction kept the movie afloat for me, but Kristen Stewart's horrible acting alone nearly sank it.
10:21.....They helped her because she was "the one"....she was "in tune" with nature
Trust me, Walt Disney's version of this story is very very very very different than the Grimm Brother's version. Most fairy-tales are very dark and cruel.
Alonso, I'm sorry to hear that you did not enjoy this movie as much as Battleship. Apparently, Battleship is going to be very tough to top.
Kristen wasn't as bad as this as she was in Twilight...but she worked in the film for the most part. :)
Well the Maxim magazine universe ranks Kristen at 15 and Charlize at 16
I wanted to see whether Kristen Stewart sucked in Twilight because Twilight was terrible or because she's just a bad actress. I now know she's just a bad actress. I agree with Ben she's attractive though.

You guys better be reviewing Prometheus!!!!!!!
Kristen Stewart will probably never live down Bella. Or it will take a long time. I feel like Stewart is talented but she needs to somehow bring that talent out. She needs a breakout role just like other twilight actors.
Ugh. You don't get the story. Snow White is the fairest of them all because of her inner beauty not outer beauty which the queen lacks.
Well Claire Danes was Juliet in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, she was exactly beautiful in that.
It's "dwarves," genius.
Christy, one word...WOW!!!
I would typically agree with you here, but not in the case or Charlize Theron.
you're 100% right
total disbelieve if anyone would think Kristen stewart is hotter than Charlize theron ........
They need an average movie goer to balance the "critic talk."
People must be out of their minds to think Kristen Stewart isn't attractive. Charlize Theron is in a league of her own, but stil...
I meant the original story, sorry.
I thought below 50% was rotten on the tomato meter
General consensus of the movie...Who the hell thinks Kristen Stewart is the fairest of them all?!
How is Kristen Stewart supposed to be prettier than Charlize Theron??? that doesn't compute
Britney Snow
kristen stewart was amazing in welcome to the rileys.
watch "Monster" with Charlize Theron, if you can appreciate film and acting then your views will completely change.
In what world is Kristen Stewart "fairer" than Charlize Theron? Good opening line, Alonso?
I hope that wasn't the only reason. (though she shouldn't be one in the first place!)
It's based loosely on the Grimm Fairy Tales...
I sometimes feel like I am the only person in the world that doesnt find Charlize Theron outrageously gorgeous... I mean she is really pretty obviously, but so are truckloads of other Hollywood actresses... I just dont get it :/
How is there a love triangle? Sam Claflin plays her brother...
Funny thing is, she had the most sex appeal playing Joan Jett in Runaways...
Not shure if trolling or stupid.
......What it going to be called? Snow White and the magic gong? (THAT WASN'T A MIRROR!)
They should have gotten Teresa Palmer to play Snow White
Rebecca Hall!!!
The shirt renders his opinions 'okay' because he sleeps all night and he works all day.
4:12 "Same Bella tricks..." LOL Wasn't a suprise to me.
Charlize Theron was the only reason to see this movie. Period, end of story.
